while i'm very on board with this event, i think trying to say 'anything but dnf' can feel too targeted, and i don't think it's the intention at all, it might make people feel singled out or unwelcome here. for instance, i think karlnapity and quackbur are also ships that are worth disqualifying (and i say this as someone who loves those ships XD).

I held onto this ask for a long time for a very specific reason: I really enjoy spreadsheets. I wanted to wait until after I had closed the interest check so I could go through all of the submitted ships so I could get some data to back up my reasoning.

And back up my reasoning it did.

A total of 75 ships (including DNF) were listed by people who said they were interested. I took all of these ships and looked them up on AO3. I decided to look at AO3 for this as this is going to be mostly about content creation, and I feel that utilizing the otp:true function helps a lot.

Of the 75 ships, 15 didn't show up on AO3 at all, no matter how much I looked. For the rest, however, I noted down the number of works both in the tag as a whole, and with the otp:true filter. I put this into a spreadsheet and generated a pie chart using the otp:true data that looks like this:

Due to this discrepancy, I feel that it is valid of me to make this current rarepair big bang only exclude DNF. I am retracting prior statements of excluding XDNF, as that ship was lower than I had thought. In the future, the list will be refined, but for now, the only ship excluded is DNF.

So, this is not the only chart that I did. I also did a pie chart of the unfiltered ships as well.

As you can see, this percentage is lower that otp:true, but you can still see that the gap is quite large. No other ship even compares. Also worth noting is that in this view, fics where a poly relationship is present can skew the results, as many chose to tag their fics not only with the poly ship, but also the individual pairings (or smaller groupings) of that ship.

I also generated a bar graph, but due to the amount of ships its very hard to read. The first label, DNF, is even pushed off the view so you can't see it, but I will attach it here anyways as reference.

I am aware that in the link you put, there are multiple ways to go about this. As I said, in the future this will be changed. I am most likely going to make a tier list of sorts for these ships based on this data. Also, I did not calculate based off of percentage of fics in the fandom itself as so many of these fics are crossovers, and I felt it was a futile effort.

Also, for those curious, I'm going to post the data I collected just for funsies. The ones with a -1 were the 15 that didn't show up at all. They had to be denoted this way to ensure that they were sorted correctly. You can see that Karlnapity (#8) and quackbur (#4) are also listed!

(I also calculated what percentage of ships tagged like that were also true because I'm a nerd who likes writing formulas lmfao)

I love dnf! Its fun! But you gotta admit that its reach is significantly more than other ships'. Also a fun aside from a friend:

That was it. George turned around immediately refusing to face DreamXD, whose expression had not changed at all. He could feel those all-seeing green eyes pinned on his back.

"Was it bad?" DreamXD remarked, tone as neutral as it could be, as if… as if nothing had just happened.

George threw his hands in the air. It hadn't been bad, it hadn't been good either. It was nothing, that's what it was. It had been just a kiss. He had no idea what he was expecting, a soul-crushing kiss? Something life-changing? It was so quick it had barely been a kiss.

"I don't know," he muttered, "I DON’T KNOW," he said raising his voice. DreamXD took a step back cautiously. He was getting frustrated. What was he even angry at? Was he expecting him to kiss him like he used to? George laughed at his own stupidity.

And now I can feel your love

He turned around to face DreamXD. Sometimes he hated looking at him. The spitting image of… him, yet so distant, so cold, so alarmingly peaceful.

"It's not him, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear? It doesn’t feel like him at all," George said, hands shaking as he tried to calm down.

"But... I look like him, I sound like him," DreamXD said faintly.

"THAT DOESN’T MATTER, YOU ARE NOT HIM, OKAY?" George yelled tears running down his cheeks. He didn’t mean to yell. He shouldn’t have yelled. Eyes still watery, he looked up at DreamXD, expecting a fit of rage, a fearful face, or just him gone, having vanished in the wind. But DreamXD just looked… confused, batting those pretty lashes slowly.

"I don't get it." he slowly let out.

George smiled slowly. DreamXD was like that sometimes. An all-knowing creature! To which George had to explain the simplest things. Why do cats meow, why are flowers so pretty, how you can bake bread from scratch instead of spawning it from thin air… In this case, well, a kiss. He sat down on the ground, turned to DreamXD and gestured for him to sit beside him. When he did, George grabbed one end of his cloak and blew his nose with it. DreamXD snatched it back immediately while George laughed, and DreamXD rolled his eyes.

"I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have expected you to… to understand or anything. Do you even…? Have you... y’know… you probably haven't-"

DreamXD lowered his head. He seemed to be thinking. Then he smiled. George couldn’t help but notice how beautiful he was. The sun draped along those broad shoulders, highlighting his golden hair and making his freckled skin look like a starry sky. George sighed at such a sight. It was funny how his surroundings changed with him, DreamXD smiled and it all felt warmer, more colourful. DreamXD stared at a blue butterfly resting on his finger that George had not noticed until now.

"I did, once..." he exhaled. George looked at him astonished as if he couldn’t believe DreamXD had loved before. It made sense, he had lived for so long, yet…

"George,” he said pointing a finger at him noticing his surprised look, “gods can feel that way too, we are not so different."

"Okay no, that’s not what I-"

“Wow, you really assumed you were my first kiss? Come on George…”

“NO, I-”

DreamXD giggled and looked at George tilting his head slightly.

"I’m messing with you. God, you look so stupid,” he said lovingly, carefully brushing George’s fringe out of his face, his fingers slightly skimming George’s forehead.

Your temporary touch

“It’s okay,” he dropped his hand to his lap, “Yes George, I fell in love once. I can do that by the way, it happens,” George rolled his eyes, “He was…” His smile started to fade, “He was…”

"What?”

“I don't… I don't remember. I don’t even remember his voice,” George looked at DreamXD’s face. He looked like was struggling to grasp his thoughts, his eyes empty yet full of sorrow. “I just remember what it felt like being around him, holding him close, saying his name. What was his name?"

DreamXD stopped speaking, lost in the thousand thoughts that mind held, while George wondered if he was going to end up living the same tragedy, loving and being hurt. He had already had so much and lost it so quickly. Was it meant to be that way?

It’s a hit and run

"A curious thing, a kiss,” DreamXD interrupted the silence, snapping George back to reality, “humans feel closer to heaven, yet beings from the heavens feel so…human, so vulnerable..."

George took a deep breath. As embarrassing as it was to admit, it used to feel like that. It was as if the shape of his hands had been imprinted into George’s, his scent, his kisses peppered across his cheeks… George shook his head. That was cringe.

As if DreamXD was reading his thoughts he just said, "Maybe it is meant to be that way. Love being a constant agonizing what if. I don’t understand why, though…”

“Me neither. Maybe it’s about the yearning? I don’t know,” George replied. Yearning… He didn’t like the taste of that word in his mouth. He needed to change the subject quickly.

"What happened to him?" George asked with a voice that didn’t come out as his.

"I wish I could remember George, I don't... I don't know... " he said with a sad sigh.

The sun was setting and to George, it all felt incredibly silly. The way he was talking about boys, like a lovestruck teenage girl, with god himself. George couldn’t repress a smile.

"I haven't felt like that in a while," DreamXD just snatched George’s thoughts from his head and said them out loud. George looked at him, and it all froze for a second. DreamXD was nervously fidgeting with his hands, not looking at George. George grabbed his hands, and those eyes finally met his own.

“I feel that way with you,” once more George thought it and DreamXD whispered it slowly like no one else was meant to hear, just George.

And then he leans in. And he cups George’s face in his hands, and George knows he’s kissing god but it’s surprising how different it feels. It’s nothing like the first time. This is not DreamXD pretending to be him and kissing George to see if he unlocks a memory, or missed him still. It's just him kissing George because he wants to. And it's him. And their noses bump. And they giggle between kisses, and it’s all so perfect, and all thoughts seem to have disappeared, and the only sound George can hear is his own heartbeat.

DreamXD starts to pull away and George’s mouth chases those lips like it’s a need.

Don’t you want some more?

DreamXD is still cupping George’s face in his hand, slowly dragging his thumb along George’s jaw. And George closes his eyes, and he holds DreamXD’s hand in his own. He opens his eyes and meets DreamXD’s smile. It’s a sad little smile that holds all the truths George would have rather ignored. And George hates it, and he wishes he had never opened his eyes. And he doesn’t want DreamXD to speak, he wants to stay there with him in silence. But he says it.

"I love you, George. But you are not mine."

Gods falling in love with mortals is one of my favorite tropes and thinking about the difference between xdnf and skephalo makes me 💥💥💥💥

I actually have an au in the works where bad is an immortal demon and skeppy is his mortal husband, and then George is an immortal fae and Dream is his mortal husband (and then some necromancer shenanigans happen and uh.... its actually kind of sad but whatever don't worry about it)

But also. Tidbit I am very very excited about for the fic for your prompt, Bad giving Skeppy a ring and Skeppy being confused:

oh i forgot 2 say in my last ask but how do you feel about c!georges relationships outside of c!dteam? im curious to hear your takes - 🍀

oooh this is an interesting question, alright.

George's relationships with other members is kind of hard to place since she treats everyone mostly the same. She's very cordial with other members, treating them as friends even if she has personal grievances. The best example of this treatment it Tommy. During conflicts it's very clear that George doesn't care at all for Tommy, often blaming him for the servers problems or calling him annoying/a pest(which she does even outside of conflicts) However when the two interact normally, George is typically friendly or at least cordial, even if sometimes you can tell there's underlying distaste. This goes for other characters George dislikes or is neutral towards as well, such as Wilbur, Ranboo, and Techno.

George's tendencies to treat everyone mostly the same even get her in trouble sometimes. A good example is this is right before dethronement, where George casually asks Techno if he has a cow farm and then gives out her location (when prompted by Techno) before Quackity's panic makes her realize that she's put herself in danger. I believe the reason for this (and similar) interactions is because George is unable to move away from the era of the smp where conflicts meant little to nothing and everyone was still friends at the end of it all.

Outside of Dream team, the only characters I see her being genuinely friends with are Quackity, Karl, Bad, Punz, Sam, and Callahan. I'd also argue that she seems close with Niki, Tina, and Hannah but since their interactions are more scarce it's hard to tell if those friendships are genuine or if it's just a case of George naturally being friendly. When it comes to friendships in general, George seems to utilize them similarly to how Dream utilizes his friends. It's a very "You benefit me in some way or we're not friends." type of midset. You can see this clearly with how George treats Callahan throughout the server, making him do her bidding and harming him whenever he doesn't (usually as a form of entertainment). You can also see this during George's godhood stream. Once Karl gets in George's way, and presents himself as an enemy, George kills him without much hesitation despite them being close friends. You can also see it when it comes to how fast George drops Bad when he becomes a threat during eggpire, or how little she seems to care about Quackity once he strays away from the group (despite Q being one of the only characters to stand up for George's rights)

George seems to view friendship as an exchange. They do what she wants and in return she does things for them (which is likely why her and Dream fell out so hard during dethronement. Yikes!) Though I will say, George gives lots of chances to people and even if they screw her over (in her mind) she'll continue to be friendly. A good example of this is how fast she returns to being Sam's friend despite him threatening her life on multiple occasions (one of which directly resulted in her dethronement)

Now... I'll talk about the elephant in the room. The character relationship that's one of the most important that I hate to talk about... DreamXD. Honesly, I could make an entire post about how much I HATE XDnf and the fandoms portrayal of him and George's relationship (and I am. Literally right now, I'm typing it up the second this is posted) but for now, I'm just going to say a quick little thing.

Ahem.

GEORGE HATES XD.

Ok, hate is strong, George tolerates XD. Primarily because it gives her things, reminds her of Dream, and tends to protect her in Dream's absence. That being said, she's very clearly annoyed and a bit disturbed by It. The romanticization of XDnf needs to be studied because to me, their interactions barely seem friendly 😭 but maybe I haven't read enough badly written fics to truly understand. Pfft.

But yeah, that's my takes on George's relationships overall. I really want to do some specific in depths analysis' of specific George relationships. I'll probably do Tommy, Quackity, Sam and (as said before) XD because their dynamics with George interest me. I also have a Dnf analysis in the works andddd I'll probably do a little something for Punz and George because their relationship is overlooked in my eyes. If anyone wants to see a specific one (even out of those) send me an ask and I'll talk about them a little bit for you.

a brainrot i've kept in reserve for xdnf's dynamic can actually be transferred pretty easily into a georgenap dynamic and i'm like 90% sure i've used it in a fic before or maybe an old poem? but it goes something like 'have you ever loved so much it turns into rage?' the passion is so strong, so deep, you can't even recognize the emotion anymore you just know it's heavy in your chest and won't budge.
