is it cool to ask you for taang fic recs? i love them but I can never find any fic that really develops them or with like the same heavy angst that’s usually reserved for like, zutara. if not thats cool I just thought I’d ask! thanks for flying the taang flag 😁

Hi! Yes, that’s absolutely cool! 

I must admit that’s it’s been a while since I actively read most of these stories (I always need to take a while to forget about what happens, otherwise, I’ll scroll down to the parts I remember, which ... yeah), but I’ll do my best. Some of these still favour Zutara, which, I fear, is just something one has to live with as a Taang shipper. 

Whisper Into the Sky by damagectrl – Toph has two choices: Go home and get married or have the family fortune and her inheritance given to a stranger. Her problem: She wants to keep her ties to her family, but is quite content traveling with Aang. Her solution: Fight her way through suitors for her freedom. Literally. | Sequel to Rhythm of the Rain (Zutara fic), but can be read on its own | not too shippy, but still very awesome | can also be found on FF.net, if you prefer that site | General Audiences

The Slow Path by Tazmainian Devil – Eight years after the fall of Ozai, Aang returns to the friends he left behind. | I need to re-read this one, but I remember it being pretty good. | T

A Matter of Honor by Adridere – Almost 4 years after the war. Aang is engaged to Katara and is up to Zuko to teach him the facts of life. Yep, the bees and the birds. Crazy kings, bananas and the ultimate contest for the hand of a reluctant maiden. | I didn’t enjoy the way this author expanded the Spirit World, and if you don’t like people cheating on each other, then this isn’t the story for you, but all in all, it’s not a bad read. | M

Tenderness by Adridere –  He wanted to keep her, even though he was not supposed to. He promised her freedom, and she promised him sanity in his own household. She kept her part of the bargain, but he found a way not to keep his. | I only skim the smut, but maybe that’s exactly what you’re after. 🤷‍♂️ Not one to judge. | M

A lot of stuff by xcgirl08 and breeeliss, especially Rhythms (For now, though, her child's heartbeat was hers to contemplate. K.) by the former, and Roommates (An unlikely tale of two unlikely people being forced to live together under unlikely circumstances. Modern AU. T.) by the latter. xcgirl also has a Taang/Zutara re-write of Book 3 that’s worth checking out and isn’t actually a re-write, I think, because I seem to remember it being written between seasons. (also just noticed i haven’t yet read everything by breeeliss, so that’s what i’ll be doing this morning.) 

Fall of the White Lotus by Boo-82 – Three years after the war Zuko is living a life of duty while Katara reluctantly travels the world with Aang. So, when General Iroh orders them to find Zuko's mother and save his Order they seize the opportunity with both hands. It's the beginning of an adventurous journey of discovery, but as time runs out a rising threat puts their bond to the test. | Okay, to be honest, I had completely forgotten this fic existed until I scrolled my Story Alerts just now. | It’s mainly Zutara, but I think I remember Aang and Toph having their moments. That’s the case with a lot of fics, unfortunately. 

Newlyweds (and basically everything else) by PandaCookie – Everyone's a bit hopeless right after they've been married. | K+ 

Half Asleep by The Crushinator – Five years after the Hundred-Year War, Fire Lord Zuko is hit with an assassin's dart, and falls into a coma from which he cannot wake. A week passes, and his prognosis is grim. But Katara could swear she hears him in her dreams... | Katara-centric, but there is some background Taang. | Just read this yesterday, so I couldn’t leave it out. | T

Currently reading, because still getting written: Neither is Love a Cage by cali-chan – Love is the freedom of flying accompanied. It is letting be without possessing. PG-13 (possibly M later on), drama/romance/angst, Zuko/Katara + Aang/Toph, post-finale but diverges before LoK canon.
