SIDE ANGLE VIEW OF THE X-24B - The NASA/Martin Marietta X-24B (modified from the original X-24A) in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. In 1972, the original X-24A Lifting Body was modified into the sleeker X-24B version. The lone original flew 28 times as the X-24A - and 36 times as the X-24B - between 1969 and 1975. Lifting Body technology would later be incorporated into Space Shuttle design. The North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie looms behind. LIFTING BODIES: THE X-24A AND THE X-24B - The NASA/Martin Marietta SV-5J modified into a mock-up of the X-24A (left) next to the X-24B (modified from the original al X-24A) in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. In 1972, the original X-24A Lifting Body was modified into the sleeker X-24B version which is on display next to the SV-5J modification (the replica is next to the real deal). The lone original flew 28 times as the X-24A - and 36 times as the X-24B - between 1969 and 1975. The SV-5J never flew. Lifting Body technology would later be incorporated into Space Shuttle design. The sleek and futuristic North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie looms behind.
