Jamaica Carnival 2018: A Review of Fetes & Xaymaca International

My throat is sore from singing soca lyrics infront of truck speakers, my right heel is sore from wearing heels for hours, but guess who wouldn’t change it ? of course me. Jamaica Carnival 2018 was heavily promoted, if you are an avid reader of globalcarnivalist.com, I mentioned in 2015 that this carnival would bloom and I have seen my words come to fruition. Q. You rock a pixie cut like no other! Have you always had shorter hair or has this been a recent style decision?

A. I have had short hair on and off for 5 years! I definitely challenged myself making such a bold move but it brought out a level of confidence i didnt even know i had in me.

Q. What is your day job? A. I am a Merchandiser for Samsung! The best mobile company in the world! I absolutely love the brand...*stops myself* Megan this is just a simple questionnaire you are not working right now lol.

 Q. How has the experience been modeling for Xaymaca International?

A. Xaymaca International is truly an iconic band. They can’t do without me and I can’t do without them. Every year it brings a different emotion out of me. We are a family and I am happy to be a part of the team.

 Q. If you could summarise yourself into one #hashtag, what would it be?

A. Definitely #goodbodymegz. Everybody calls me that, especially around carnival time. What can I say, it grew on me.

 Q. What is your absolute guilty pleasure?

A. My guilty pleasure is sucking my tongue right before I fall asleep. I swear I am so ugly when I do it but it relaxes me .

 Q. When it comes to your mind and body, do you stick to a certain diet or get into things like gym or yoga?

A. My mind is constantly working, it drives me crazy. I regain my sanity in the gym but to be honest I mainly work out to look good.

 Q. What are your top 3 must haves for carnival road march?

A. A good body #goodbodymegz, fete partners! And a slayyyyeddd face! Big up @jpalmua on IG, my makeup artist.

 Q. What do you love the most about carnival season in Jamaica?

A. I love the costumes the most! The colours, the designs, the details. It gives me goosebumps just to see how creative these designers are.

 Q. What is your favourite part of your body?

A. My a$$! I was skinny growing up until puberty became my best friend.

 Q. How would you describe your experience in the 2017 Ms. Jamaica World Pageant? Would you enter another pageant?

A. I will say this. It is an experience every woman should experience. It prepares you for the different transitions in life that you will experience. Hmmm will I do another pageant? I think one is enough

 Q. If you could travel to any European country free of charge, which one would it be and why?

A. ITALY! Home of love and good pasta.

Q. You are such an amazing carnival costume designer. One of our favourites to be honest. Has this always been your dream job/career?  A. Thank you. Yes, being a designer has always been a dream job/career but costuming is something I got into after university  Q. How has your experience designing costumes for Xaymaca International been thus far? A. It’s been challenging but rewarding. Q. You are an amazing model yourself. Have you always had this confidence in yourself? A. Thank you. No, for a very long time I struggled with my insecurities. I was never confident, neither did I view myself as capable of being a model. I still have my insecurities but I have more aspects about myself that I am happy with so the insecurities don’t tend to overcome the good qualities  Q. If you could summarise yourself into a #hashtag, what would your signature #hashtag be?  A. #IHaveNoClue Q. What is your absolute guilty pleasure? A. Grapes...or mackerel . How nice I actually am. My face tends to look angry or mean so people think I am unapproachable  Q. What do you love the most about Jamaica? A. The weather  Q. What would be your favourite part of your body? Has it always been this way - or has it come with age?  A. My jawline. It’s come with age, I’ve never actually noticed it growing up.  Q. Tell us about an embarrassing moment in your childhood.  A. My celeb crush was on the TV and I was kissing the screen and one of my parents walked in and saw me  Q.
