AITA Tag!
No one tagged me but I enjoyed the first one so much that I have decided to do it again.
Rules: Make an Am I The Asshole post (look at r/aita for examples if you haven’t seen them ) for an OC
From Kell:
AITA for “Betraying” Xaeren before his ritual to kill a goddess?
Ok so I met Xaeren when I accidentally stole a rune and money from him in Daliva. I didn’t know who he was at this point, but I used that money to buy passage on a ship to Zairel where I forged papers to get into the lysandri school of magic. At school I heard of Xaeren. An assassin, the most powerful caster in generations, a traveller and a storyteller. He had recently returned to the city and people were intrigued. Anyway, I had carried the rune with me all the way to the school, not knowing what it was and Xaeren found me there to reclaim his property. We spoke for a while, I gave back the rune and realised he really wasn’t as malicious as some stories made him out to be. I was struggling at school and he offered to teach me magic and in return I would give him information about a variety of different higher level spells house lysandri kept.
He was particularly interested in the work of Muliva Kazi and the magestones and he told me he planned to kill the goddess of death. I laughed this off at first but the deeper we got in this the more serious he seemed. He taught me so much magic and he was always kind to me but I began to realise how powerful he really was and that I might be getting in well over my head.
I asked him exactly what he wanted me to do and he told me he would never put me in danger, but if I wanted out I should tell him then because soon it might be too late.
I chose to join him. I wanted to learn more magic, to grow more powerful and succeed as a mage and he was my path to that, if it all got too much I could easily cut and run back the the lysandri mages.
This became more complicated when the lysandri mages found out about his plan and labelled him a wanted criminal for crimes against the natural order. He had found a way to kill the goddess and I had agreed before the mages came into it but this made me start to question my allegiance.
The day before the ritual I told him I could not do it. I couldn’t sabotage my entire career, my entire life as a lysandri mage just for his unachievable project so I left him. He was angry saying I had betrayed him, that I was his way back but even in the end he didn’t push me to help if I wanted to leave.
They told me he died in the ritual and took the goddess with him.
I just wonder if anything would have been different had I been there for him. I don’t regret putting my career first, I am now a high mage and a member of the ivy council because of that decision. Still I wonder was it wrong to leave him there after all he did for me?
So AITA for ‘betraying’ him before his ritual to kill the goddess?

Summarising the Kell and Xaeren WIP in one sentence.
Magic man finds curious girl, uses her to help kill a goddess.
It seems so easy to write when you put it like this.
Tagging @drchenquill, @illarian-rambling and @the-golden-comet.
Hey writeblr! Here's a challenge: can you summarize what you're writing in one sentence?

hi pae pae!!!
what is your process of designing your maps? and how do you approach lore? how does that brilliant mind of your work to create such fascinating history and complex worldbuilding?
je would like to know the trade secrets pretty pls
p.s. how far along are you on xaeren? if it’s not far enough, im afraid i’m going to have to start protesting soon… 😔
p.p.s. before you say school is taking up your time—understandable. have a great day. keep being brilliant. i just really want more xaeren content.
p.p.p.s. in my head, i imagine xaeren as so mighty fine that there’s an occult in some middle school of a suburban neighborhood with an old classroom turned into a shrine for his feral fangirls to host club meetings simping over him
that’s it’s. that’s all the pspspsppsss i have. miss you! have a great day! cheerios!
Hello Naveena! Lots of questions! We will go through them one at a time.
What is your process of designing your maps?
So with maps I will start by just noting down the history and current function of the city which gives me an idea of style and layout e.g. all of the cities that were part of the Laith’Edrels have lots of circular designs whereas a modern altic city may have more typical alleyways and rectangular buildings Next I plot in the districts of the city, like where the upper class live, where the high streets are etc. I also add any key buildings at this time, like a plot relevant church or a mages tower. Lastly I go back in and draw boxes and house shapes for 2 hours.
How do you approach lore?
A lot of my lore is just a set of stories where I look at a place on the map, or a group of people and go ‘what could have happened here?’ The bigger worldbuilding points like the dissolution came from me wanting to have magical decay from fewer more powerful beings to more less powerful beings, so I needed gods. However it always frustrates me when there are canonically gods in a world who just sit back and ignore the world crashing and burning as one frustrated hero has to fix the problem, so I made a reason for them to be gone
History and worldbuilding
Honestly a lot of my history writing was based off of the large amounts of real life history I read in my free time. Studying how cities and empires develop then putting my own spin on them because magic would change some things. Worldbuilding comes from my maps really. I will label different cultures on the map then come up with myths and legends for that culture, magic specific to them or their ancestors, wars and internal conflict. Then that spirals into pages of notes on the socioeconomic background for Onkairel. It is lots of fun.
“would like to know the trade secrets” she says after writing a whole book with detailed political lore and plenty of depth to the world.
You know the secrets. You also know the secrets to actually writing the book too.
So about Xaeren…
I will be writing the scene where he meets Kell soon so I will tag you in it when I do, but you are right about the school work :( so it may take a little while.
“an occult in some middle school of a suburban neighborhood with an old classroom turned into a shrine for his feral fangirls to host club meetings simping over him”
So you say that jokingly… No, to be fair he isn’t known for his an appearance but he is quite well known in Zairel as an assassin and member of house Hiresias. He is terrifying and intriguing to many because of his unique magic that Lysandri can’t explain so I would not be surprised if there was discussion of him in the lower ranks of Lysandri and Hiresias.
I will write some Xaeren soon. Have a lovely day <3

OC most likely to tag.
Thanks @drchenquill for the tag!
Most likely to forget important things
After some deliberation, I will have to go with Xaeren. Not because he is particularly absent minded, but because he will always have a higher priority in his mind than your ‘important thing’. That’s why he keeps so many notes in his coat pocket, because he purges the thoughts from his mind so he can think clearly.
2. Most likely to fall for a prank
Daimion. Marsh pranked him mercilessly growing up and Dai always fell for it.
3. Most likely to get drunk
Marsh. When he was out of prison he would get drunk quite often with army colleagues just because he liked the feeling.
Your statements are:
Most likely to run from a fight
Most likely to get married
Most likely to win the lottery

Writing share tag / out of context tag.
Thanks @theink-stainedfolk, @somethingclevermahogony, @the-golden-comet, @tildeathiwillwrite, @drchenquill,
@honeybewrites and @willtheweaver for the tags!
I have left this far too long, so in return you get 2 snippets.
From Xaeren:
‘You know that when you kill her, someone else will just take her place. Nature abhors a vacuum.’
Xaeren sighed. ‘Yes, I know. The intent when you remove a cancer, is for healthy cells to replace it.’
From Paeliae:
‘You don’t listen to me, but every piece of advice I have given you has been correct.’
‘I wonder, is that because of your wisdom, or do you just leave the decision long enough for your theories to be confirmed before you speak. You may be right, but you are passive and consistently late.’
It keeps trying to autocorrect Paeliae to Paella. I am frustrated.
Anyway… Tagging @davycoquette, @saturnine-saturneight, @phoenixradiant, @poethill, @mk-writes-stuff

5 Favourite fics…
I hate ranking them, it feels like choosing between my children. I will instead choose the best for me to write.
1.Xaeren
This is the WIP I have written the most of, I will finish it I swear. Xaeren’s magic and fight scenes are always so fun to write, especially if he is limited in which runes he has and has to come up with creative solutions. Kell is also cool. Writing magic lessons is cathartic because I have wanted to tell people about this for so long.
2. Paeliae
I have written the second most of Paeliae. (3 chapters. I am so proud of myself)
Anyway, I like this one for its more humanising view of gods and I like thinking about immortality and its implications. I can also put longer more beautiful descriptions in this one because it has a slower pace.
3.Marsh and Daimion
I always love writing Marsh. He is just objectively funny and Daimion is the perfect foil for that. Also just writing a happy character is good for me.
4.Tyro and Apollo
I love them, I do, but they are so hard to get right. These were my first characters in this world so I am a bit of a perfectionist with them. That makes them hard to write.
5.Ez and Rin.
They are so cute together. I just haven’t really done much with them.

OC Head-canon tag
Thanks @the-letterbox-archives for the tag!
Rules: Use this character headcanon generator to get some head cannons about your characters.
I will go with Apollo, Marsh and Xaeren for this one.
Apollo
Apollo is oblivous to any and all romantic interest someone may show them.
True. He is a little busy trying not to die.
Apollo desperately needs a hug but doesn't know it and refuses to ask for one.
This one is incredibly accurate, he is idolised by so many and has to live up to their expectations of strength and resilience.
Apollo cries while watching disney movies.
No, Apollo has seen worse than Disney movies.
Marsh
Marsh does intricate and expensive cosplays.
This hasn’t ever happened in canon, but I would love to see him try.
Marsh is constantly singing for no reason.
This could be true, but the reason would be because it annoys Dai.
Marsh has chronic nightmares.
No, he is quite happy with his life as it is. At least at the start of his arc he has very little to be concerned about.
Xaeren
Xaeren has a knife under their bed.
I would not be surprised. There is one in his pocket constantly and that has saved him in the past.
Xaeren is smart but also very stupid.
True. He is very good with magic and runes, but then decides to confront a goddess.
Xaeren has a sword under their bed.
Now this is pushing it. Marsh however would 100% do this.
Xaeren does not know what sleep is.
True, since returning from the Demi-plane he doesn’t sleep much. He has a big task.

Badly Summarised WIP
Thanks for the tags @theink-stainedfolk and @the-golden-comet <3
Rules: Pick a bunch of your WIPs and summarize them as badly as possible, then ask your followers to vote on which one they'd be most likely to read. Multiple/all/none options are completely optional.
Magic man tries to kill a goddess, but along the way ends up adopting a kid and sending them to wizard school. She now has to decide whether to help him kill gods or get her degree and stay out of it. .
Politician gets the largest I told you so moment before realising that his opposition actually started a war and as the general of his city he will have to fight in it. He does not fight, but instead joins a cult to break into the gods camp and convince them to stop killing his people. .
Traumatised runic kids run away from their abusers but soon realise the problems go a lot deeper than they thought, and soon enough they are fighting the government .
The god of magic goes absolutely berserk after his mortal boyfriend’s death was arranged by other gods. .
Serial murderer and his traumatised brother go on a buddy cop adventure where they have to solve the mystery of the massacre that got them kicked out of the military, all in order to get a kid back to her home.

Character Crime Bingo.
Thanks @darkandstormydolls for the tag!
I did this bingo for Marsh (red) and Xaeren (Yellow)
Some interesting mentions: Marsh has never committed manslaughter. He has only ever killed when he has intended to. Xaeren has only ever killed one person accidentally. He considers murder to be wasteful.
There are no cars or internet, so no cyber crime or DUI.
These two tend to commit crime for fun or work rather than necessity, so tend away from thievery as it would not really benefit them.
Here is the blank template:
Tagging @kaylinalexanderbooks, @drchenquill, @poethill, @the-letterbox-archives, @the-golden-comet,

Character Poll ~ Antagonists
Thanks @theink-stainedfolk and @the-golden-comet for the tags!
There are so many, how will I choose????
Kala Vandris
A 19 year old runic who is sent by the Vandris (runic cult) to kill Apollo. He is clever and determined to prove his worth to a ‘family’ who have abused and manipulated him his whole life. He channels that built up anger and resentment at whoever the Vandris point him at, until he meets Apollo.
Schaeres
The neutral goddess of unnatural death. Her realm, Tamir’sul, houses all souls that died before or after they were supposed to. She also prevents necromancy in some cases, so when a young Xaeren’s parents start messing with the dead she takes them. Xaeren sees it happen and knows Schaeres would take him too if she knew who he was. She is vindictive and powerful and will hunt Xaeren into death and beyond.
The Dieral Gods
This is all of the gods whose domains don’t require mortals. (E.g. a god of knowledge would require knowing creatures whereas a god of the wind does not require living things) They are at war with the mages who tried to gain immortality and supplant them. The most powerful and supposedly oldest Dieral god is the god of light, he has Rin Killed. We hate him. >:(
The Ponturesi
A runic cult which routinely adopts and abuses children so they have lost enough to use the runes. They have been known to train soldiers of wars, perform secret research for the government and “raised” Apollo and Tyro.

OC Head-canon tag!
Thanks for the tags @drchenquill, @illarian-rambling and @seastarblue
Ok, we are doing Xaeren, Apollo and Marsh.
Xaeren
Xaeren is not allowed to drink energy drinks.
10/10, he is already kept awake by a new level of hyper focus, energy drinks would not help.
Xaeren can't make the voices go away.
8/10, true. It’s his own voice though.
Xaeren is oblivous to any and all romantic interest someone may show them.
100000/10 He is so oblivious to anything outside of his purpose. If you aren’t a threat he will straight up ignore you.
Apollo
Apollo has an intense fear of water.
3/10, not in that sense but he was terrified when he first saw the ocean. He had never conceived of so much water in one place. This is after the events of the story.
Apollo chews their nails when nervous.
6/10, No but he fiddles a lot with his runes.
Apollo believes in ghosts and insists on trying to summon one at every sleepover.
4/10, Ghosts are reall and he 100% could summon one. He hasn’t yet.
Marsh
Marsh tackles and wrestles people to show affection.
10/10, True. He and Marsh used to wrestle each other for fun in their military days. Now Daimion is uncomfortable.
Marsh has not showered in two and a half weeks.
0/10, He really cares about hygiene. Much more that he cares about human life.
Marsh doesn't own a single pair of matching socks.
7/10, Marsh doesn’t own many clothes. He was in the military then in prison, neither really lends itself to a range of outfits.

Writing share tag!
Hello hello! Thank you for all of the tags @the-golden-comet, @drchenquill, @theink-stainedfolk @kaylinalexanderbooks and @the-letterbox-archives.
It has been a little while. Anyway scene:
‘But who is he?’ Kell asked.
‘He is a hiresias.’
‘Oh, like a runner for their spy network?’
Xaeren let out a sudden laugh. ‘He couldn’t run to save his life. Trust me, he tried...’ His eyes glazed over as if lost in memory.
‘Then what does he do?’
‘That is the wrong question. The right question is what can he do for us?’
‘Ok, what can he do for us?’
‘You’ll see.’ Xaeren moved through the city as if he had lived there all his life, avoiding cracks in the pavement that must have been older than Kell, and climbing onto the roof with such ease that she wondered if he had secretly used magic.
He offered a hand down to her. ‘Come on.’

OC in 15!
Thanks @drchenquill for the tag.
Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you’re free to include those as well!
We’ll go with Xaeren
‘Let me tell you a story then, about a little family. One day they were all alive and well, and the next their souls had been taken by a vengeful goddess and a magical research centre.’
‘I know people.’
‘The runes? I designed most of them.’
‘Although their designs were Ahinti magic, and I will be using runes. The finer selection should not change the base of the magic though. The conversion will take time, but the machines should still work as long as I am not using complete strands…’
‘So I do this with a group of people’ … ‘Don’t worry. They were bad people’
‘Demonspawn? No, my friend. I am perfectly human. I think in many ways that is worse.
‘How did I get in here? Have you forgotten me that quickly?’
‘You don’t touch her. You don’t threaten her. Or I swear to you I pay my debts. I have done so with nobles, I have done so with gods, and I swear on my pride I will do so to you.’
‘Oh come on. Everyone has dreams.’
‘Ah see, people who are fine don’t tend to sit alone in alleys crying.’
‘You like it? This coat was made for me by an old friend in Zairel. It has plenty of pockets for all of my worldly needs.’
‘I was in a group of travelling performers for a nearly a year.’

Xaeren Character Intro!
After popular demand (@thecomfywriter) I have made an intro for your favourite magic guy Xaeren. For more info go to the ‘Xaeren lore’ links in my intro, or #xaeren writing.
Ok so I have a list of questions from the number 1 Xaeren fan, but if anyone has further questions feel free to put them in the comments.
Questions:
This man’s sleeping position?
He sleeps on his side, usually his left side unless he is injured. His coat hangs next to him in case he needs to leave quickly and he has other runes on his pyjamas just in case.
His daddy issues?
Xaeren’s biological father (Morden Teyri) was a necromancer from the 3rd Altic Kingdom, when he was taken Xaeren was adopted by an abusive step father from the Ponturesi who used him to study the effect of pain or learning runes. All in all not a great parental situation but when he finally reached Zairel he is quickly welcomed into Hiresias and the hidden king becomes something of a father figure to him so that is nice.
His crippling anxiety?
He fears that he is running out of time, which he is. Xaeren has spent a lot of time and effort protecting himself from the gods but has recently figured out that it was not enough to keep him safe. The concept of the goddess finding him and imprisoning him again is terrifying, if only just because of his utter helplessness and failure at his life goal: magic and survival.
His Runes?
Ok, long story. I have other rune posts, but happy to make more if needed. His runes of choice are ‘Awen’- protection, ‘Xaeren’- souls/banishment (Obviously) ‘Tas’- Binding and ‘Tesellel’- Dispelling magic
Where did his resilience come from?
Xaeren has been running from this goddess since he was 15. Resilience isn’t a choice for him, it is a requirement for his survival, and survival is something he cares deeply about. The people around him in Zairel have helped with this. He can keep going because he knows that he can protect them, and they can help him.
His favourite ice cream flavour
Ooh I hadn’t thought about this one. Probably blackberry. I don’t know why so don’t ask.
Who is in his family?
Wow. Loaded question for him. First family - Altic necromancers Dad (Morden) from the 3rd kingdom and Mum (Saire) from Orien. They were taken by Schaeres for messing with death. She also would have taken Xaeren if she had seen him Second Family - The Ponturesi. Runic cult who experimented on how much loss a person needed to experience to use runes. He sent most of their living souls to a death realm. Third Family - Travelling group as he travelled around the altic lands and down the Wysindi coast to Zairel. They moved on when he decided to settle down in Zairel. Fourth Family - The hidden King and HK’s son Arlei. The crew: Zeudi - resources coordinator Herra and Koi - message runners, lower level hiresias. This later includes Kell. All of these are still currently alive.
Who does he hate?
Himself, the goddess Schaeres, The Ponturesi, sometimes the small council of house Lysandri
Who does he love?
You Naveena. He loves you. (Also his closest friend Arlei)
What inspires him? What terrifies him? What compels him to hide?
He is inspired by magical research. He spend a large portion of his life studying and developing runes so new forms of magic always intrigue him. The feelings of helplessness and eternity terrify him, which is why he is so particularly scared of the abyss. Schaeres scares him because she is an incredibly powerful entity that actively means to harm him. He is compelled to hide by very few things and when he does hide it is incredibly temporary before he goes straight back into the world. This is a common flaw and strength he has.
Who does he trust most in the world. Least?
Most - The hidden king. He can keep a secret and is very dependable when you have his favour. This extends somewhat to Zeudi because she works directly under him and manages his affairs. Least - The small council (House Lysandri leaders)
Could he pick me up
Sigh. Yes. With magic, maybe not physically he isn’t that strong.
How much tea does he drink?
When he was studying he drank copious amounts of tea, now he forgets about basic needs and has to be reminded to drink water.
Who is his love interest? Can they fight?
He doesn’t have one. There is a bit of tension between him and Arlei but they never even begin to explore that. He is single.
What is his full name?
(Deep breath) Xaeren Corin Teyri, Runic of the Ponturesi, Arcani of Hiresias, Silmern and first of his name, the betrayer of Anosel, and binder the goddess Schaeres of Tamir’sul.
He doesn’t always introduce himself like that, just a few titles he has acquired in his travels. And these are only the titles he claims.

Find the word tag!
Thanks for the open tag @the-golden-comet.
My words: Given, yourself, finite and glory
Given:
‘I have given up on dreams.’
‘Oh come on. Everyone has dreams.’
A ship appeared in Kell’s mind, sailing away from Daliva into the sunset. Zairel and the coast and the eternal ocean. She smiled.
The man noticed the faint grin that pulled at her lips. ‘You do have something. Tell me.’
‘It’s a boat. A big one, and it is sailing away from here to somewhere I can mean something.’
Yourself:
‘Shouldn’t you be in the laith’emeris section, citizen of the great city?’
‘I’m sitting with you today.’
‘How gracious of you, lowering yourself to sit with a minor city like mine.’
‘I’m making sure you don’t do anything stupid.’ He replied, though a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. ‘Were you planning on it?’
Finite: Couldn’t find this one. I have lots of infinites.
Glory:
Kala slipped silently through the trees, closely watching the clearing in front of him as he came to a halt. No more than 30 steps away was his chance, his glory, his gateway to honour in his family. He would not fail them.
Your words: open, discover, leave, stay

WIP Tour Tag!
Thanks @theink-stainedfolk for the tag.
WIP - Xaeren
Places I recommend to visit:
The Magestone trees - a grove of trees that been naturally grown over the ancient magestones which bind forbidden magic. The trees grow strong feeding off of any magic that slips through the protective wards of the stones and the faint glow of the magestones shines through then at night. They are very beautiful and a testament to the end of the dissolution.
The crossroads in Laith’Zairel - This bustling market square next to the hiresian docks is packed full of fabrics and trinkets and occasionally magic items that the seller does not know the value of. Merchants from all over the world travel here to sell their wares to the last standing mage city. The sounds of the crowds and the sea are drowned out by the overwhelming smell of spices from nearby carts and the colourful streamers and shop facades that seem to stretch forever down the winding streets. It is an experience, but it’s worth it.
The old senate hall - Before the dissolution Laith’Zairel was a part of the Laith’Edrels empire and as such had a council who reported to Laith’Emeris. This council needed a space to meet so a grand hall was commissioned but since the dissolution, one of the houses of Laith’Zairel began rallying local lords and house leaders to elect them as sole monarch and House Tai’Fell took the throne so the building became useless. The hall is circular in shape so all sections of the senate would be equidistant from the speaker and it had a large domed roof with intricate gold-painted sculptures lining the ceiling depicting the founding of Laith’Emeris and Laith’Zairel and conquests of the Laith’Edrels. It is an incredible step into the past and is demonstrative of the old mages power at art as well as the war that they are remembered for.
Who are the tour guides?
Xaeren - He has lived in Zairel for 7 years on and off and knows the city in a way that a normal resident likely never would. He would take you across the rooftops of Hiresias and sneak you into the secret places hidden in the magical house Lysandri. It would be fast paced and feature places you would never be able to find again without his help.
Kell - She would show you the Magic school in House Lysandri, taking you through the different labs and glyph chambers, pointing out particular burn marks or dents in the walls and relying you about the misfired spells that led to them. She would also take you to the docks to see the sunset over the sea. She would revel in every beauty of the city that she never could have imagined in her first home.
The Hidden King - Wow, you convinced him to walk with you? Well, he would give the best tours taking you from one side of the city to the other in less than an hour which should be physically impossible but he manages with his interlacing tunnels and alleys. He shows you the city as a living breathing entity, pointing out people stopped at stalls or whispering to each other and telling you something about them which every time gets more specific and more accurate.
Which OC would do something memorable on the tour?
When you reached the walls of House Lysandri, Xaeren would climb them easily and slip onto a nearby balcony, but noticing that you did not follow he would take out the ‘Jos’ and ‘Zyr’ runes to cast in conjunction and magically lift you over the wall and onto the balcony beside you. He would do the same if at any point you fell from a rooftop, or wanted to get a better view of anything high up.
Souvenirs! What are they?
If you convinced the hidden king to give you a tour, he would leave you with a Hiresian clock. He would explain how only one of the clock faces on it showed time and the others could be set into position to convey full messages using a cypher of the hiresian language.
Kell would give you one of her first magic notebooks that you could follow to learn the basics.
Xaeren would give you a piece of jewellery imbued with magic. He would either give you slow falling or a weather spell based on how much you fell during the tour.
