The sun sinks against the evening tide, painting languid waves in its hues. Miko watches it, though her mind is elsewhere, fingers dancing idly in the violet tresses of her Archon's hair.
"All of these years we have had to celebrate your birth," she breaks their silence at long last, "and this is the first in some long while that we have spent away from Inazuma."

That we have spent together at all, though it is senseless to state such an obvious fact.
Kitsune peers downward then, at the woman resting in her lap, and shakes her head in faux disapproval. Jewelry jingles at her ears, soft and merry, and her lips twitch with a smile.
"Dare I say, we should get away more often."
How is she meant to admire such a sight when the kitsune stands before her?
Her eyes remain closed, leaning into her touch with a smile. There are many uncertainties in this world...but there is one thing she is certain of: this is the closest thing to the heavens she's wanting to experience.
"...I'll consider it," the 'for you' is left unsaid...she would without a doubt get laughed at by the fox. "It is nice to just relax...just the two of us."
She leans up ever so slightly, her hand pressed against Miko's cheek.

"So long as it's with you...I will happily go wherever you please, Miko."

Of course Ei laughs at Miko's reaction, how could she not? It was a rather predictable reaction after all. While apart of her felt a tinge of guilt that even Miko had a certain...distaste for the Shogun, it wasn't as if Ei could have done more to make her palatable.
That's not true, by the way.
Her eyes hardly need to scan the board to know her next move. Without a second thought she moves a piece, capturing one of Miko's in return with a smile. A decision done with little mercy.
"How poetic. But I can't say you're wrong. I much prefer the life I've been given," 'despite everything,' "but I still can't help but wonder what life would be like if you and I had been mortal." She raises a hand to her lips, covering them as she laughs. "I suppose we would still be spending our eternity together, you and I."

"It's been awhile, hasn't it?"
Her fingers move delicately across the board as she places the wooden pieces in her camp. She couldn't remember the last time she had gotten to play any sort of game, though with everything that has happened over the centuries, it had likely not been since before her sister's passing.

"Are you sure you wouldn't prefer karuta instead? I don't mean to boast, but I'm quite skilled when it comes to shogi."
A small smile graces her lips. To anyone else it would mean little to nothing, but Ei knew Miko would take it as what it truly was: brimming with the confidence of a woman who has already won.
She rests her chin on her palm, watching closely as Miko goes to make the first move.
"I hope you don't mind me taking this as an opportunity to...catch up. How have you been, Miko? I've heard the new novel you've published has been causing quite a stir."

Ei cannot help the laugh that slips past her lips once Miko speaks, watching carefully as she makes her first move. Though the beginning of the game typically seemed dull to a spectator, but even the most significant of movement could turn the course of the game.
"Yes, I suppose you're right. I don't suppose you would approve in inviting my puppet to play? Not that she would humor me if asked."
Once more a pawn is moved, each piece like a soldier preparing their defenses for Miko's inevitable attack.
"It works out for you, doesn't it? I can only imagine how bored you would be otherwise. I would hardly find a moment to myself... They are quite charming though, aren't they? I can't help but feel envious at times."
