"Whumpee, Whumpee, talk to me," Caretaker shouted over the ringing in their ears. The explosion had made the world muted both in sound and color as the air filled with dust. Caretaker had lost track of Whumpee. They had to find Whumpee or else both of them would be in trouble.

Being paired with a living weapon had its growing pains. Between Whumpee's relative freshness as a living weapon and Caretaker's uncertainty of what they should and shouldn't do proved to be difficult. They didn't want to undo all the conditioning Whumpee had gone through. But they also couldn't treat Whumpee as an inhuman object, though many wanted them to do so.

"WHUMPEE!" Caretaker shouted again. Or at least they thought they shouted. It was hard to tell.

Whumpee had shoved them aside, casting a protective shield around them just as the explosion went off. Caretaker's mouth went dry as they realized Whumpee probably hadn't thought to do that for themself. Part of their conditioning and training was to always protect and serve normal humans.

A wet cough had Caretaker freezing. "Whumpee?"

The cough came again and Caretaker began to try and sift through the rubble. "I'm coming, Whumpee, just hold on!"

"'m 'ere," Whumpee's weak voice came from beneath a board on Caretaker's right.

Caretaker quickly shouldered the board off Whumpee and gave a sigh of relief. Whumpee was alive. Whumpee blinked up at Caretaker, their gaze unfocused. Blood coated their teeth as they smiled vaguely up at Caretaker. "C'ta'r," Whumpee wheezed.

"Whumpee! Whumpee! Are you ok? Where are you hurt? Show me!" Caretaker quickly pulled more rubble away from Whumpee, revealing various cuts and wounds from the shrapnel of the blast.

"I....I....I did gooooood, r-r-r-rightttttt?"

"Why would you even say that, Whumpee?" Whumpee wanted to be praised? At a time like this? Perhaps this was a part of their conditioning as well. Caretaker hated it.

Whumpee's lower lip quivered. "Pro'ctttttt y-y-y-y-youuuuu."

Caretaker's anger evaporated. "You did a great job protecting me, Whumpee. Thank you."

Whumpee blinked heavily and gave a bloody smile. "G-G-Gooooood-d-d-d." Their eyelids drooped closed.

Caretaker tapped Whumpee's cheek. "Ah-ah. None of that. Stay awake, Whumpee. That's an order."

Whumpee jolted awake. "KKKKKKKKK."

"Just hold on, Whumpee," Caretaker said gently. They hated having to order Whumpee around. But they needed Whumpee to stay conscious so that help could arrive. And Whumpee was conditioned to never fail to follow an order. "Help is almost here. Stay awake."

"Mmmmmm," Whumpee hummed weakly. But they kept their eyes open and trained on Caretaker.

OC-TOBER DAY 12 FUTURE

SOUPY AND WY !!! Epilogue domestic fluff because they desperately need it.

They're one idiot and one braincell pining for each other hopelessly. They would be really cute and fluffy if not for the tragic mishap, which causes both of them to get stuck in a sort of parallel universe hopping loop. Soupy and Wy are forced to re-live through different iterations of their lives - falling in love with each other every time. Sounds cute but the problem is! they reset/hop to the next parallel universe whenever that Soupy reciprocates her affections for Wy. So despite the many built up efforts to confront her feelings, it is all for naught because they get reset every time she does. They are both stuck in the phase of chasing romantic love and never being able to move forward. Wy doesnt seem to remember anything from previous dimensions/universes but Soupy does! So she works to figure out how they got stuck in this dilemma to begin with. Hopefully she's not alone in wanting to break free from this odd limbo. :3c BUT YEAH ANYWAYS< YES DOMESTIC FLUFF FOR THEM CAUSE IN DIMENSION HOPPING LIMBO, SOUPY BECOMES EXTREMELY ANXIOUS ABOUT ACCEPTING WY'S UNENDING LOVE AND CARE,,, Bing able to cherish his embrace casually on a Tuesday morning is something she was never able to do before. This is huge for them ,,, 🥺🥺
