Wayhaught Sex Scenes
That got your attention didn’t it? Uh huh, yep! Let’s talk about it. When I’m reading older fics closer to when the show started and prior and to the season 3 halfway point, Waverly is mainly written as a bottom. Now, in a way this makes sense because Nicole was already comfortable in her sexuality when she met Waverly. I’d like to assume Nicole casually dated and kissed and didn’t tell. Waverly however, was inexperienced and had never been with a woman before. She had just found out that maybe she wasn’t only interested in men. In the show, Waverly’s inexperience showed and Nicole was “leading” a lot of the intimate scenes they had on screen. This dynamic changed massively in the last two seasons. Did anybody else also notice this?
Tumblr media
It went from Nicole initiating things between them, to that being Waverly. Specifically in the two right pictures. Nicole in the top right, was apologetic because nobody showed up to Waverly’s little meeting at the homestead for everyone to talk about what had been going on in Purgatory. Waverly on the other hand was like, “You’re sad we’re getting alone time?” And then she initiated their kiss (which I believe spiraled into sex on the floor). Then in the bottom right, Waverly also initiated their intimate time in the bed. Despite the fact that it was cut short due to Nicole being distracted. But watching the show back, their “power dynamic” shifted by seasons 3 and 4 and it was because Waverly had grown up and matured throughout their relationship and Nicole gave her room to do so. So, by the end of the last 2 seasons we were getting a lot more fics where Waverly wasn’t the bottom in their relationship or fics that showed a trajectory kinda like the show where it changes over time. Waverly really found her voice within the last 2 seasons which I think also attributed to this because we got to see more of her beyond just being you know, Wynonna’s sister or just seeing her with the Wayhaught stuff. Alright, that’s all I’ve got. Sound off if you have anything to add. It’s good to be back on this app haha.

Wayhaught spends the day with Alice
Waverly was very excited to baby sit her niece, especially since she convinced Nicole to help her (which was harder than she thought it'd be.).
She texted Nicole eagerly that morning to see when she would get to the homestead, and to Waverly's excitement Nicole replied with "20 minutes wave."
Waverly had done most of the Baby proofing in the house with some "help" from Wynonna and actual help from doc, and Nicole. It's not that Wynonna didn't care it's just she is Wynonna, and she was freaked out about the pregnancy.
Wynonna walked in with Alice in her hands followed by dolls caring the Diaper Bag, and doc the blanket Waverly gifted to Wynonna.
"Here." Wynonna said as she placed Alice carefully in her sister arms. Waverly held her close to her chest looking in to her niece's eyes and making funny faces to make her laugh.
They had all left Waverly with Alice to go somewhere Waverly wasn't exactly sure she wanted to know the details, because when she asked Wynonna she was met with the face of excuses.
Soon enough there was a knock on the door, to which she opened the door and was met with a smiling Nicole who seemed really excited.
"I thought you didn't want to baby sit?" Waverly asked teasingly.
"You are very persuasive, and Alice is pretty cute."
"That's my girl." Waverly whispered as she placed her niece in her girlfriend's hands. She could get use to this. Nicole took the Baby in her hands gently holding her carefully, Waverly didn't know what had done it but she couldn't help but smile.
"I should get her a Bottle." She said walking in to the living room and then the kitchen.
"Ok." Nicole said as she sat down on the couch very carefully.
"Hi" she said in a whisper to Alice with a big smile. "Auntie Waverly is making you a Bottle." She said as she held Alice closer to her chest.
"Here you go." Waverly said handing the bottle to Nicole who helped Alice drink it.
"Your really good with her?" Waverly asked in a question statement.
"I guess so." Nicole said looking at Waverly, still holding the bottle steadily. "I use to baby sit my cousins when they where younger a little older than her, but I guess it just comes naturally."
"I like that your good with her." Waverly blurted out after a few minutes of Alice drinking.
"I knew you would." Nicole said taking the bottle out Alice's moth because she had finished.
"Soo... do you think she needs a nap?"
"Yeah she already almost fell asleep."
They both looked at Alice who had closed eyes and was yawning, Nicole got up carefully and, walked upstairs with Waverly. They tried their best to not wake her up but they failed.  Luckily Alice was really tired so when Nicole put her down in her crib she fell asleep almost instantly.
Nicole and Waverly quietly walked out and shut the door. "Come on" Waverly said now holding hands with Nicole as they walked to the living room. They both sat down on the couch and soon Waverly was curled up with Nicole.
"What do you think of being an aunt?" Nicole asked.
"It's weird, if I'm honest I never thought if Wynonna as a mom, but I think it will be fun. What about you?"
"Me?" Nicole asked full of confusion and doubt.
"Yes, you."
"I highly doubt that Wynonna thinks of me as an aunt to Alice."
"Once a part of the family, always a part of the family. Nicole you are as much of her aunt as I am ok."
"That's really sweet, thanks. Well, I think It will be exciting, and different, but non the less exciting"
"No problem."
A few minutes later Alice started crying and Nicole went upstairs to try to get her to go back to sleep, what she didn't know was that Waverly followed her upstairs.
"Shh." Nicole said picking up Alice. "It's ok, just a bad dream, but don't worry you Earps sure get a lot of those."
Alice continued to cry, so Nicole sat down on the floor back a against the wall, and continue to try to calm her down.
"Hey, it's ok. It's just me aunt Nicole, well according to Waverly." Alice calmed down a little bit but she was still crying softly.
"Do you want food? Umm... do you need a diaper change? You want Waverly?" Nicole asked looking closely at her facial expressions.
Her face was most relaxed when she had mentioned Waverly. She stood up as carefully as she could and turned to find that Waverly had followed her upstairs.
"I think she wants you." Nicole said blushing lightly, as she handed Alice to her.
"Yeah whatever you said aunt Nicole." She said in a mocking town.
"You said it first." Nicole said trying to defend herself the best she could.
"I'm only joking, you know your really cute."
"Thanks, but not as cute as you." Nicole said turning the color of her hair.
"I think she needs a diaper change."
"Do you want me to do it or you?" Nicole asked in almost a whisper.
"I'll do this one, but you have to do the next one and get me the diaper bag. It's down stairs."
"Fair enough." Nicole said walking down stairs.
"Don't worry, I'll change you and then you can get back to sleep." Waverly whispered.
"Here." Nicole said putting the bag down, and grabbing a diaper and some but wipes. She handed them to Waverly and walked out saying that she was going to make a Bottle.
Waverly could get use to this.
She had finished changing her and threw out the old diaper, and washed her hands  before walking down stairs to see Nicole with a freshly made bottle.
She took the bottle from her hand and helped Alice drink it.
"This is nice." Nicole said placing her lips to Waverly's forehead.
"I agree."
Alice woke up from her nap a little while and while Waverly went upstairs to get her Nicole placed a blanket on the floor for the three of them.
Waverly returned and set Alice down on the blanket and she sat down across from Nicole. Alice crawled around for a while before trying to escape in to the kitchen, luckily Nicole stoped her in time.
"She's fast!" Nicole said as she carried her from the kitchen to, and back to the blanket.
"Yeah, one thing she didn't get from Wynonna."
"That's for sure. Ok well I have to go change her back right back."
Nicole returned with Alice and found Waverly making lunch for them and a Bottle for Alice.
"Do you need help?" Nicole asked following Alice in to the kitchen.
"No thanks for asking, just don't let her do anything we'll besides crawl around and stuff."
"On it!" Nicole said following Alice close on her heals after she saluted Waverly earning a laugh. Alice didn't really try to get in to a lot except for a few things, but Nicole stoped her.
Waverly finished making lunch and handed Nicole the bottle as she put there sandwiches on the table. They sat down, Alice in Waverly's lap drinking her bottle as they ate.
"This is good, thank you." Nicole said between her bites.
"Hhm." Waverly hummed in response.
Nicole finished her sandwich and threw out her plate. She took Alice from Waverly so she could finish her sandwich. She put her on the blanket and turned on the news watching carefully to make sure Alice didn't touch anything or get hurt. Waverly joined her a kept an eye or to out for Alice.
They both heard a loud bang and stood up quickly to find Alice with tears in her eyes and a red mark on her forehead. Waverly picked her up and held her in her arms to comfort her, while Nicole investigated the situation.
"I think she just banged her head, she should be fine." Nicole said walking up to Waverly. "Yeah" Waverly spoke quietly.
The mark soon disappeared and she had fallen asleep in Waverly's arms while she and Nicole watched tv.
Wynonna came in and woke Alice right up at the sound of her mom's voice.
"Hey, kiddo." Wynonna said taking Alice from Waverly. Alice giggled and stared at her mom's funny faces.
"Was she good?"
"Yeah." Waverly said looking at Nicole.
"She hit her head on the wall, but other than that she is a great baby." Nicole said watching closely at Wynonna's reaction, which was a kiss to her daughter's forehead.
"She will be fine she tough. Right?" Alice just laughed at her mom's question.
"Ok well I think we could both use a nap." Wynonna said walking away and the coming back in the room. "Alice say thank you to your aunt Waverly and Nicole."
Waverly and Nicole both smiled and laughed, as they both thought about what Waverly said earlier and how she was right.
"This kid I'll tell you always forgetting her manners. Thank you." Wynonna said walking upstairs.
Waverly turned to Nicole who was still smiling. "See, I told you once an Earp always an Earp. Well you get what I mean."
"I do. You know I could get use to this."
"So could I." Waverly said as she pulled Nicole in to a kiss that was full of love.

World: A horror Western, quick on the draw
It’s a striking level of commitment for a program that only debuted two years ago and has aired a total of 25 episodes.
A fan encounter at the first EarperCon UK in London in 2017 brought up none of those things. Rather than discuss an obscure plot point, a young woman wanted to share how the show, which has a number of LGBT characters, had helped her come out to her father, who brought her to the convention.
“It was awesome and overwhelming,” Rozon said. “I was thinking, this is about way more than my character running from a tentacle.”
The relationships among the cast and showrunner and “Wynonna Earp” fans — known as “Earpers” — are so intense, the next year will bring conventions devoted solely to the show in Toronto, Minneapolis, New Orleans and London (again).
It’s a striking level of commitment for a program that only debuted two years ago and has aired a total of 25 episodes. But it’s a bond that has helped the Syfy series, which returns July 20 for its third season, not just survive but thrive within the ever-changing pressure cooker of peak TV.
With its modest Nielsen ratings, which average less than 900,000 viewers a week, “Wynonna Earp” may not have made it past its first season. But as social media and a growing array of viewing platforms give networks more ways to gauge the value of niche audiences — and executives become more creative about monetizing them — “Wynonna Earp” demonstrates how a distinctive premise, a passionate fan base and a creative team that respects and nurtures that enthusiasm can help an under-the-radar program flourish in a TV landscape that is tough even on acclaimed shows.
Case in point: The space opera “The Expanse” was canceled by Syfy after three seasons, though it debuted with stronger ratings and more media coverage than “Wynonna Earp.” But the network had only one notable revenue stream for “The Expanse”: The money from advertisements within linear airings of the drama, which wasn’t enough to offset its cost. So the network grounded the series (which was then picked up by Amazon).
By contrast, Syfy’s deal with IDW Entertainment, the studio behind “Wynonna” — struck a couple of years after it signed contracts for “The Expanse” — gives the network more ways to make money. Commercials in on-air broadcasts, ads within online and app views and a Netflix streaming deal all bring Syfy revenue. It also helps that “Wynonna Earp” costs less than “The Expanse.”
But “Wynonna Earp,” the tale of a woman and her allies battling monsters, has a value for Syfy beyond balance sheets, according to Chris McCumber, president of Syfy. Viewership among women aged 18-34 was up 44 percent in the show’s second year, and more than half the audience is women — the highest ratio within the otherwise male-skewing Syfy viewership.
“That sense of perseverance and fighting against all odds is relevant right now,” he said.
According to the lore of the show, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) is a descendant of Wyatt Earp, who got the clan put under a curse. As the Earp heir, Wynonna is fated to protect the hamlet of Purgatory — and the world — from the demons that bedevil the town. She has the special ability to wield Peacemaker, Wyatt’s gun, which she uses to send Purgatory’s Revenants” back to hell, usually with a quip — and whiskey — at the ready.
It’s not for every taste — nor was it meant to be.
“It’s such a relief to not have to make TV for everyone,” said Emily Andras, the executive producer and showrunner, who described the comedy-infused, character-driven drama as a combination of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Justified” and “Frozen.” (Wynonna and her younger sister, Waverly, have a tight bond.) “In a world of 500 [scripted] shows, if nothing else, you have to say, ‘Well, I haven’t seen that before.'”
The show has “exceeded expectations” on the social-media front, McCumber said. In 2017, "Wynonna Earp” had an average 224,000 day-of-air Twitter engagements — seven times the next highest Syfy series. Overall, Twitter activity was up 874 percent in Season 2, according to the firm ListenFirst. “I’m a real believer in social media and people using word-of-mouth — that matters more than ever,” McCumber said.
A year ago, Syfy made the slogan “It’s a Fan Thing” key to its marketing campaigns, thus “Wynonna Earp” and its energetic supporters “fit in perfectly with where we were going with the rebrand,” McCumber said.
The core elements of the premise — rogue tentacles, prickly villains, a found family and swoon-worthy romances — are familiar to aficionados of genre entertainment. But the twist it put on those basics helped “Wynonna Earp” stand out and win fans.
Andras’ feminist outlook is much in evidence. This past season, Wynonna was pregnant (as was Scrofano), but she didn’t let that slow her down. Both Doc and the former federal agent Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson) are attracted to Wynonna, but the romantic possibilities are just a part of the story, not the main point.
“She’s a female protagonist who is likable, but I think she’s likable because of the freedom we had — she didn’t have to live up to this weird archetype of the ‘strong female character,’ whatever that means,” Scrofano said.
From the start, Andras and the cast have had unusually tight bonds with the show’s enthusiastic, inclusive fan community. The well-known genre entertainment site Den of Geek noted recently, “[In] an era in which internet discourse can bring to light some of the most hateful and divisive values in the world, ‘Wynonna Earp’ fandom is a pretty wonderful, safe place to be.”
“It’s like you’re moving into a new neighborhood and everyone’s there with cookies. It’s an openhearted fandom,” said David Ozer, the president of IDW Entertainment.
Among the most influential fans are Kevin Bachelder and Bonnie Ferrar, who co-host Tales of the Black Badge, a podcast devoted to the show, and weekly video hangouts that sometimes include Andras and cast members. (Ferrar also runs the Twitter account @WynonnaFans.)
They and other fandom leaders, like Bridget Liszewski, the editor of the site The TV Junkies, actively promote and encourage a friendly, tolerant Earper culture that emphasizes consideration and community-building over factional flame wars or personal attacks. Respectful differences are accommodated; toxic meltdowns, like the ones glimpsed in certain sectors of the “Star Wars” fandom, are not. They don’t even record the video hangouts, a decision that aims to make guests, famous and not, “feel comfortable popping in to have fun,” Bachelder said. “It’s not going to live forever on the internet — everybody can just be themselves.”
Awareness, at least in geeky circles, was relatively high from the start, in part thanks to a vocal cadre of fans of a prior show Andras worked on, Syfy’s “Lost Girl.” Within six weeks of the show’s debut in April 2016, #WynonnaEarp began trending on Twitter for the first time. But soon there was a potential snag. In the first half of that year, a large number of LGBT women — who aren’t easy to find on TV in the first place — were killed off on an array of shows. The resulting furor left many gay TV fans angry and wary.
At that point, the most high-profile “Wynonna Earp” couple was Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) and Purgatory cop Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell) — a pairing known as “WayHaught.”
“I remember someone tweeting to me ‘I’m scared to fall in love with WayHaught,’ and it broke my heart,” Ferrar said.
Aware of the worry, Andras made a bold and unusual move, in this era of spoiler-phobic showrunners. She told Liszewski and others in the media that Waverly and Nicole would survive the first season, and those TV writers spread the news weeks before the season finale.
“The feeling was, ‘We can enjoy the rest of this ride,'” Liszewski said.
“Wynonna Earp’s” profile only grew once LGBT fans came on board in a big way. Twitter trending happened regularly during Season 2 and WayHaught fan art, fan fiction and T-shirts proliferated.
“Fans love the exploration of LGBT romance on television. Contrary to the media’s obsession with toxic male fandom, female fandom right now is pushing hard for more diverse and inclusive representation,” said Henry Jenkins, a professor at the University of Southern California and a leading scholar of fan communities. “These changes can’t happen fast enough, and this show is out front on those issues.”
Being out front on the business side, in creative arenas and in the realms of inclusion and representation has led to a “bright future,” according to McCumber. And to a packed travel schedule for Andras and the cast, many of whom will be trekking to multiple conventions during the next year.
“I wouldn’t trade the cult success of this show for billions of dollars,” Andras said, and then paused. “Maybe one more dollar.”

Canon Wayhaught Fics
Tumblr media
If I’m being totally honest, these can be hit or miss for me. Because the characters are written in such a specific way, if anything feels out of character when reading these then it can cause me to kind of shake out of the little bubble I’m in reading them. Now that I’ve finally written my own canon fic, even though it’s only a one-shot, I understand the importance of trying to make sure the what you’re writing aligns with the actual characters.
There’s some that are written so well and it’s not coming to me right now but it’s a fill in the gap fic and explores what Wayhaught might have been doing in between the episodes they showed on TV and I loved it.
Others, it just feels like the characters are making decisions that they just wouldn’t make and it pulls me out of the moment while reading it.
How do you feel about canon fics? Are they a hit or miss for you too? Do you prefer non-canon fics opposed to canon? Lemme know. I’d love to hear other thoughts.

I feel like people gradually underestimate the different ways that Waverly can be written in fan fiction because of how feminine she’s written in the actual show. In a way, I feel like that steers people away from writing Waverly as anything besides a feminine cisgender woman.
There’s a few fics out there now that have written Waverly completely unrelated to canon which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I feel like it’s special to read a character that I already love and see her written in ways that I wouldn’t have ever expected.
What I love most about people choosing to write Waverly different is that there’s a piece of the pie for everyone. We’ve now had non-binary Waverly, transgender (woman) Waverly, even a transgender (man) Waverly. And I know that these all aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s nice to know that fans all over the rainbow have something out there that they can hopefully relate to.
In fic it seems far more common to put Nicole in the vast majority of the queer roles. Non-binary Nicole, transgender Nicole, Intersex Nicole, etc. it’s always Nicole. It’s nice to see fic writers switching it up and also putting Waverly in these roles too.
I’m writing something right now that I’m really enjoying because Waverly is written with a personality that pretty much stays home to canon but with an identity that does not. I feel like when writing characters with different gender identities than we see them in canon, that people suddenly feel like they can’t give them the same personality we see in canon and I’m hoping to change that.
Anyway, if you’ve read this entire post, wow. I know it’s shorter than a fic but it’s hard to keep peoples attention these days, alright? Sound off if you feel called to do so. I love chatting about fic.

So how exactly does this forum work? Oh well. I’ll figure it out. Anyway, hi! I’m Casey. I’m 24 years young. I use they/them pronouns and I’m a non-binary (agender) queer. I’m currently in college and majoring in IT Programming and Software Development. You can find me on Twitter same user which is where I’m most active. My favorite Wynonna Earp character is a Waverly (Wynonna a close 2nd). I’ve been to 1 Earp Con which was EDE2023 in July which was freakin incredible. Ummm… that’s all I’ve got for now! I love talking Earp and I’m always down to chat. I’m still getting used to this platform so bare with me. If you’re an Earp fic lover you can follow me on ao3 which the same user theveganearper and check out what I’ve written. Ok, that covers it.

Waverly Earp, your honor.
I think my favorite thing about Waverly after rewatching the series is even though Waverly at the start of show has a more shy and very feminine personality and look, she starts getting a more tough and badass vibe to her as the seasons continued going on.
She started getting more sarcastic, her dress style matured, she cared less about JUST being involved and cared more about what strengths she could bring on her end and what value that would bring to the team as a whole. She matured massively and became more sure of herself. She could truly stand on her own two feet as a character.
Now that I’m writing a fic where Waverly is both non-binary but also has feminine qualities, it makes it so much easier to write just by seeing how the character in show became less about being the cute little sister and more about who Waverly was at the core and what could make her stand out. This has been so much fun to write.
Can’t wait eventually share it with you all.

My Controversial Smut-Take:
Smut has become a thing that can either make a fic or break a fic for me. Even as an author, I am guilty of “breaking a fic” with smut. Now that I’ve been reading and writing a bit longer, here’s my biggest controversial (maybe) smut-take.
Note: This does not imply to fics that are actual smut fics. That’s not what I’m mentioning here.
My biggest peeve is when I’m reading a fic that has a wonderful plot point and then as soon as the smut hits, that’s all the story has become. I’m guilty of this myself, unfortunately. It ultimately made me lose direction in a fic that I wrote, I’m Glad These Roads Led Me To You. I loved writing this fic so much. But the moment I did one smut scene, that unraveled into more smut scenes and then I thrived on the feedback of them and that was great. But I felt lost in the direction of where I was taking it plot wise, and then after taking an even longer break to find some direction, I feel like I lost the plot entirely. I’ll find my way back to it though, with a great planning strategy.
This doesn’t always happen though, and I’ve seen it done very well with a few fics. I feel like when smut is just another part of a fic, it can take a story to new heights. You get the best of the plot with a little smut on the side and it’s a perfect ensemble of a wonderful plot and an incredible addition of written porn, haha.
Smut gets stories lots of hits, kudos, comments, etc. because we’re all humans and humans get horny and well…you get it. I feel like the biggest downfall with smut is when authors, again, like myself, start getting that boost from the smut and then it’s like, “People are really enjoying this and are commenting on this, so let me give them more of this thing that they seem to enjoy!”
But the best part of the story is well, the plot. The plot is what’s keeping me interested. What are the characters doing, how do they feel, what are they thinking, what are they experiencing, where is this all going, where will they eventually end up? I feel like a lot of these questions get lost when smut takes over a story and it’s happened with a fic I recently read.
It had a great plot, great character development, awesome descriptions, and amazing writing. It was the perfect balance of romance and humor and angst and fluff and then smut entered and then I’m like, “Where was this story going before this?” And, “Where is the story going now?”
I’m writing a fic now where there’s smut in chapter 2 (so very early on) and my biggest goal with this fic is that smut has to make sense and only be a participant in the overall story. It can’t just be put in there to make things spicy. It has to just be another note in this song that elevates it, but doesn’t take over and become all that the story is. I don’t want people to start reading this fic and then forget what the core of it is or let it fall off because now there’s more smut than there is character dialogue and story advancement.
This is long and very dragged out. But I just felt like putting this out there because although smut is GREAT (of course it is.) I also feel like there can be a negative side to it as well. So there’s my maybe-maybe not, controversial smut-take. Leave your own thoughts if you feel inclined.

I love how everyone’s process of writing fanfic is different. I’ve realized that other people actually plan the fics out. Like they sit down, give themselves an overview for what they want accomplished in each chapter and then go from there. Some people write it down and then type it out. Then there’s me who gets an idea and just starts immediately typing and rolls with it. Earlier I got inspo to write a fic that’s been an idea popping in and out of my head for a while but I would always push it to the back burner.
But today that writer itch hit while it was super slow at work (probably due to the holiday) and I just dropped what I was doing. I’ve got 4 chapters now. I dunno why but fics come more naturally to me when I just pick up my phone and open the notes app and can let my mind just roll with whatever it comes up with. I usually don’t think about it much, I just start typing. I’ve realized that’s just how I write. Having ADHD I can’t sit and just plan out everything that’s going on. My mind will have a multitude of ideas that I have to get out in 3-4 chapters and then I come back to it when I mind starts rolling with ideas again.
This has been a blessing and a curse. A curse mainly for longer stories because then I’m like, “ok, where does the plot go now?” Which is currently where I’m at with an active fic (unfortunately). But for shorter stories it kinda just goes and goes until I feel like it’s a good end point which works out sometimes, which is what happened with Greasing My Wheels. It was like I just started and kept going and going until ending it just felt right.
Anyway, I just found it fascinating as I scrolled through Twitter and saw about 4 fic authors that I love all sharing a different approach to how they were getting chapters up either today or in the near future. I just found it interesting all the different ways that authors can write fic and just felt like making a post about it *shrugs*

Wayhaught Angst
Alright, I’m back with another fic talks topic. Oooh, we got a name for it. Hashtag, fic talks. I’m talking about angst today. When I read angst, I’m like OOOOH SHIT IS GOIN DOWN. I read a Wayhaught fic recently (as you do) and I came across one angst scene where Waverly’s been dealing with lots on her plate regarding work and bills and life in general and Nicole notices something that makes her upset because she feels that Waverly is being careless but boy was it a great bit of angst to read. I’m like, YES! The work I’m talking about is from Cam, who’s just flipping... holy cow level of amazing. It’s actually from Cam's Everything You Need To Know series. So good!
Tumblr media
I feel like if angst is done in the right way, where it doesn’t get borderline verbally abusive, it’s so good to read. I love when you get the miscommunication bits in fic. With Wayhaught fics we often get something with lots of angst more specifically in enemies to lovers fics OR we get a cute and fluffy fic. But when you get that balance of angst and fluff? Buddy, chefs kiss! Best of both worlds. And when it ends a chapter on a little angst cliffhanger? Hook n real, you’ve got me. But I love Wayhaught fics that have angst because it adds a little something. I like showing the imperfections in relationships especially with communication because then it’s like, yeah, not every relationship is rainbows and sunshine all the time and communication is the biggest reason why things get..."angsty". Waverly has a fire to her personality and Nicole can be very calm which I love because… Have you ever argued with someone that's totally calm and it’ made you angrier? I feel like their arguments would go in that direction haha. Anyways, Angst was on my mind because I’ve been writing it. I can be a bit self deprecating with my own writing and angst is one of the criticisms I wrote for myself on what I could write better so I’ve been writing lots of it lately. It’s been a little angsty in my Apple notes. So, there ya have it. The inspo for this fic talks. Until next time beautiful people!

Dialogue in Fanfiction |Wayhaught|
Tumblr media
I’m a dialogue writer. Yep, I’m finally owning it. While I’ve dabbled in smut and have gotten plenty of compliments for it (a bow and a thank ya) my absolute favorite part of fic writing with Wayhaught is the dialogue. Specifically, when they’re just being goofy with one another in teasing tones. I’ve been doing so much writing recently for quite a long fic that I’ve been working on, and I’m loving the dialogue so much. Sometimes it’s not necessary to write anything to follow up dialogue. For example:
“Nicole, can you please change the channel?”
“Why would I do that?”
“Because you love me and Rue Paul’s drag race comes on in 2 minutes.”
“Oh, you’re pretty confident that I love you, huh?”
“I’d say so, considering you know, you married me and all.”
“Mmm… Yeah, I definitely did that. Didn’t I?”
“Yep. I even have the photo to prove it. What is it that they say? Caught in 4K?”
“4K is pretty clear…”
“It’s crisp. I could make out your face and everything. Would you like to see it? Or is my word enough for you.”
“I mean… I guess I can take your word for it. This time. Now, next time I guarantee that I’ll be so nice about it. But since you said I love you and all, I think I can make an exception.”
Through dialogue like that, it’s not always necessary to follow it up with “Waverly said in a teasing tone” or “Nicole replied sarcastically.”
And it wasn’t until recently when proofreading a chapter before sending it to a friend that I thought about it. Some fics will have a follow up to dialogue on every line and I found myself debating on whether or not it was necessary because as I was reading it, I was catching onto the tone.
Other times a “she bit back a laugh.” Or a “she asked skeptically.” Makes complete sense to capture the tone of the “scene” being written, but my views on dialogue have changed massively in the past few months and it’s honestly changed the way I read and write fic. In fact, I’m enjoying it even more now. So whether you’re just a reader or both a reader and a writer, try paying attention to the dialogue next time you’re reading a fic. Or maybe you’ve even caught onto this already.
If so, did it change the way that you read or write fic? If you feel inclined to leave your thoughts below, feel free! I’m genuinely curious to see if this changed anyone else’s viewpoint on dialogue in fic. Not just what I wrote, but catching onto this is when it comes to fic dialogue in general.

Wayhaught break up?
We had broken up over a week ago I don't exactly remember when because I try not to I really do.
I just can't believe it happened.
*At Shorties* Nicole's pov
I sat there at the Bar drinking. Just drinking all by myself trying to forget. Not to forget Waverly I could never do that. Trying to forget what happened. Everything that happened because it made me happy we were happy, but now I'm sad alone crying in a Bar drunk out of my mind.
I haven't seen Waverly sense, which really hurts because I loved her and I still do and I hope she knows that but we have avoided each other at all costs.
Someone came up behind me and taped on my shoulder.
"Nicole."
"Waverly?" I said trying to hold back my tears but I failed miserably.
"Come here. We need to talk."
That's when she started to cry to and she took me upstairs to her apartment.
*Imagine Waverly still lives above the bar and not at the homestead with Wynonna*
"Waverly what are we doing?"
I asked as she closed the door we were all alone but it was to soon it still hurts, and I don't know if it will ever stop.
"I am so so sorry Nicole. Please forgive me I'm so sorry. I miss you so much. Please."
"I'm sorry. I was never mad at you I will always forgive you. Please what?"
"Kiss me"
Waverly wrapped her hands around me and pulled me close.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
I pulled her closer as we kissed the taste of alcohol and Waverly on my tongue. I pulled away from her realising that she missed me but we Broke up we were Both Drunk and sober Waverly wouldn't want this at least I think.
"Don't do this Waverly. You will regret this."
"I know what I want, who I want."
"Who is that?" I asked with pain in my voice.
"I want us. I want you, hell Nicole I need you."
"Your drunk and you don't want this it isn't real. It was but you don't want me anymore."
"Baby I love you. This is real Nicole it was and still is."
"I love you to wave but we both that I want this but you don't so I can't let you do something you will regret later because drunk wayhaught isn't a good combination."
"I want wayhaught. I want to do this Nicole."
"Waverly we can't."
"No one is stopping us."
"I can't. I have to go home."
"Nicole you can't drive home."
"I'll figure out something."
"Sleep here with me tonight. We can talk in the morning. Then I can tell you I want this and you will believe me."
"I believe you, but I don't believe what your saying."
I said as I started to open the door. I couldn't let myself think this was really happening.
"Stop. I know we both want this so let me do this."
Waverly said before forcing me against the door with a kiss it was soft and gentle full of love and lust, but also of alcohol and heart break.
"Do you want me?"
"Yes, Waverly I will always want you."
"Then let me kiss you."
When she said that i broke I gave in.
We kissed for what seemed to be forever, until she moved her lips to my neck kissing gently on my pulse point. I couldn't help but moan slightly, being with her took the pain away.
She sucked hard and bit down even harder marking me. I really hope she doesn't regret this in the morning even though I know she will.
"We will take about us when we aren't Drunk, but for now that will do." She said as she ran her tongue over the mark she left on me.
"I hope you meant that."
"I do. Now come on. The bed is to Big without you in it and it's cold and lonely."
"I miss you Waverly."
"I miss you to Nicole."
We crawled in to bed and Waverly healed me closer than she ever has. She soon moved so that she was on top of me.
"Wave are you sure?"
"Yes now just hold me and fall asleep. Please I need this. I need you."
"Ok. I'm here baby I'm here."
"Don't go anywhere, don't leave me."
"I won't. I'm not going anywhere I promise."
It was an Akward position but it was comfortable. I'm happy this is happening but I'm afraid it will all fade away. That we will fade away from each other and become a faded memory. That Waverly won't want this anymore. We broke up, because she didn't want this anymore, well from what i can peace together.
*Waverly's pov*
I woke up because Two arms wrapped around me. I lifted my head a little to see it was Nicole so I put my head down and put my arms around her the best I could. We stayed here for a while but I had to ask what happened. Did she remember?
"What happened."
"I don't remember... well all I remember is you said you wanted us and then you kissed me and gave me a hicky, because you wanted to mark me."
"I did what!"
I said sitting up looking at the dig Dark mark on her neck. Why did I do that? Did I do that? I wouldn't do that would i?
"You did that."
Nicole said as she sat up a little not pushing me off or anything.
"No. I wouldn't have."
"I wouldn't let anyone else do that to me I know that much, and I don't remember anything else."
She said tearing up.
"What's wrong?"
"I just... Nothing."
"Nicole you can tell me." I said moving closer to her.
"It's just... I knew it wasn't real." A tear rolled down her check and more followed.
"What's not real?"
"What ever happened last night."
"Nicole tell me what happened you obviously remember, and I don't so tell me please."
She told me everything that happened and I started to remember some things.
"I want this... us."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes baby."
"Waverly don't lie to me."
"I'm not. I need you Nicole."
"I need you to Wave."
"I missed this a lot. Nothing I did or could ever do replaces this."
"It really doesn't."
"Yeah." I said as moved back on top of Nicole so I was in her arms. She held me like there was no tomorrow. She held me so I couldn't leave I'm sorry I have to make her think she has to make me not leave.
"Why did we break up? I know the reason why we did, but we obviously can't live without each other."
"I know, baby I'm so sorry. I should have never... I'm so sorry Nicole, I love you."
"I know your sorry. I'm sorry Waverly. I love you so much I don't want to hurt you again I can't believe I did, and I hope you can forgive me."
"I do, I forgive you."
We stayed there in comfortable silence and warmth. I was happy and with Nicole that's all that matters.
"Are we... Will you be my girlfriend?" She asked nervously
"Yes! Yes, Nicole"
"Let's not ever Break up again. Please."
"We won't I hope."

"Thank you. I wish I could say when you were cute, but I can't because you are cute all the time."
"God we sound like one of those Rom com's you love."
"Yeah I can see that."
Her lips were kissing mine. They were soft and controlling, addicting. Nicole is strong but yet her touch is so soft and nice. I sat up so that I was strangling her again. She reached around my waist and rested her hands in the dip of my back.

Wayhaught Break up part 2?
Waverly said yes to begin my girlfriend I was so exciting. I was happy again. It felt so good to have her in arms. To love her and be loved back. To be Wayhaught again for real.
We must have fallen asleep because the next thing I know someone is opening the door burst in and say.
"Eww guys come one get a room! Wait, you broke up, or did I drink to much?"
"Nicole?" Waverly said as she started to wake up.
"It's ok, don't worry it's just Wynonna and for your information we do have a room and the door was locked."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever Haught. But seriously you broke up."
"We did." Waverly said muffled in to my chest.
"So, Break up sex?"
"No Wynonna we got back together." I said proudly.
"Yay! Wayhaught forever!" She said in a real sincere voice.
"You really mean that?" Waverly asked still laying on top of me and I didn't mind at all.
"Of course Baby girl."
"If I said that you would tell me to shut it."
"Yeah."
"So, why are you here Nonna?"
"Oh black badge thingy need the files, And got them ok got to go."
She said quickly grabbing the files and leaving.
"Well, would you look at that... we are a lone again."
Waverly said before her tongue returned to the mark she left on me last night.
"Seems like we are Miss Earp."
"What should we do officer Haught."
"I'm not sure what were you thinking?"
Waverly's pov
"Baby, you know what I'm thinking."
"Do I now?"
"Yes."
"Tell me what you want us to do."
"I want us to have sex."
"Your cute when you do that."
"Thank you. I wish I could say when you were cute, but I can't because you are cute all the time."

She has the special ability to wield Peacemaker, Wyatt’s gun, which she uses to send Purgatory’s “Revenants” back to hell, usually with a quip — and whiskey — at the ready.
