Long rant about Jay (not a hate rant quite the opposite actually)

I hate that they got rid of Jay's mechanic/inventor traits as time went on. And instead of just bringing those traits back they keep introducing characters to fill In that role.

Like Im sorry but why are 3 of the 4 gals apart of the main group into mechanics or deals with tech in someway??? Why is Wyldfyre the only gal who doesn't have an interest In tech????

Nya, Sora and Pixal all fulfill essentially the same tech role and while that's fine as they can easily fulfill different aspects, my issue is WHY NOT BRING JAY'S SKILLS BACK THEN?

They r clearly not afraid of multiple characters fulfilling similar roles so why was Jay the only one who's mechanic skills were stripped away?

Like his skills were so important in the earlier seasons he helped out so much and even got the bounty for fuckin fly?? Like his skills in machinery was also a reason why wu chose him too so to strip that away just makes no sense?

Like I'll forever be salty about this, his intelligence in machinery was so interesting to see especially when u consider the comedic kinda of character he's supposed to be. They could easily made him the mad scientist type of inventor/mechanic but they just hate fun and whimsy and would rather he be just comedic relief and nothing else I guess.

I hate how they treated Jay like he was stupid in later seasons too. They really dumbed him down instead of being the smart comedic relief he's the dumb comedic relief and I HATE it. bro literally deals with mechanics and made shit from scraps if there is one thing he ISNT, is stupid.

Like if they had just made him, let's say not emotionally intelligent i could understand. This is my own personal headcanons coming through, but i don't think he was around many other humans aside from his parents and occasional mail man growing up, and while i dont think he means to come off as a jerk, he tends to say shit without thinking it through as we have seen ALOT and that could be chalked up to him dealing more with machines than people. So If they had just focues on his lack of emotional intelligence, THAT I could understand and would have been fine with. Obviously this is more my own headcanon coming through but u get the idea

But they just made him more all around stupid and I just find that so hard to believe.

I hate how none of Jay's backstory has been explored too.

They introduced a mind shattering revelation that Jay's adopted and proceeded to do...nothing with it.

It would have been so cool to explore that but no, it gets no mention or focus at all aside from that random coversation betwen Unagami and Jay in the season that absolutely should have been a Jay season but for some reason wasn't. Like why bring it up then lol

I also hate that all of Jay's conflicts tend to involve Nya. Like I know they yin/yang but cmon bro, not every conflict Jay goes through has to focus on his relationship with Nya. Let this man get SOME interesting characterization that isn't based around Nya CMON

I saw a few posts on here talking about Jay's characterization and I just had to jump In with my two cents cuz it's crazy how they brutalized him in later seasons. The Fandom tries their hardest to keep the mechanic aspect of Jay alive and I appreciate that so much cuz it's a crime they got rid(or forgot or whatever) of it later on

Dragons Rising E16-20 Thoughts

Here’s some thoughts on the final episodes of Dragons Rising, Season 1:

Land of Lost Things:

So how’d the Dragon Core end up in the Land of Lost Things? Nya says, “Someone lost it” but who?

The Land of Lost Things in this ep is permanently at sunset/rise and looks beautiful

The land itself is screaming? Seems kinda important

Couldn’t Geo just fuse the Hoarder to the ground

Bonzle! Never expected how much they’d do with her after this ep

Sora ngl powering a machine off of another person’s energy does sound like Imperium

Who built this machine anyway

Poor Geo :( 

Cole is just so lost lol. “What Empress?!”

Okay but he’s also super cool

Very good episode - Cole is characterized great, Geo is fun, we get both Sora and Wyldfyre growth, the Land of Lost Things is beautiful. Certainly could go into more detail but these bullets are just what I think as I watch, not in depth analysis

The Administration:

Arin nearly hits Lloyd in the face with his grappling hook

I wish I had a line to wait in

The Kai and Wyldfyre stuff this episode is great for both characters

The Administration as an agency is so fascinating. Reminds me of the TVA from Loki

Is that a new species? The guys who look like Munce? Or are they Munce?

Zane says that the Administration has no real authority, which is true, but it’s also the case that their teleportation technology is very powerful

The Administrator… hmmm

“The lands formerly known as the Cursed Realm” so the body of the Preeminent in Hollow’s Trench? The soul of the Preeminent in the Departed Realm? Something else?

JAY!

Of course the Administration had a car specifically designed around Zane (I choose to believe this was Zane’s car at one point and the Administration confiscated it)

So what else qualifies as a Class B artifact? Is there a hierarchy — would Class A be something like the Golden Armor?

And of course the Administration has a mech designed for Arin and Lloyd

Love the Zane death note scene. “You’re a form genius.”

Really fun episode on the Administration side, and heartfelt one on the Kai & Wyldfyre side

“Obviously they have different energies, they’re different Cores” it’s funny that the sets color the cores differently, but in show they’re all identical lol

Excellent manipulation by Ras, but the following scene in prison shows Ras’ fatal flaw: he thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, so he can’t see that Beatrix has (or at least thinks she has) grown beyond him

So Ras has a “true” Master, wants to unlock forbidden secrets, and is now working with Jordana. Great setup for Season 2

Closing (brief) thoughts on Dragons Rising Season 1: It’s really good. Good blend of the more episodic stuff and serialized content. Arin and Sora are a blast, Lloyd is great, and I forgot just how good the Wyldfyre stuff is this season. There’s a lot of hanging threads, but Season 1 also does feel like a complete story. It’s not perfect by any means, but certainly at the higher end of Ninjago seasons.

Next up, the start of Dragons Rising Season 2!

"very few know that not only did the first spinjitzu master create ninjago, he also created several other realms" HE DIDN'T EVEN CREATE NINJAGO

i don't know why anyone is surprised arrekore isn't evil? we knew djinn weren't normally evil - nadakhan was exiled, that's why he was in ninjago in the first place

ok the impossible path got me. but also did none of the mucoids ever think to wear shoes

kai teaching wyldfyre lessons he learnt from wu! lessons we saw wu teach him! also the way that he figures out how to do it in a way that makes sense to her. really good kai characterization

i believed you guys when you said cole and geo were gay, but wow.

that said did cole just run off following master wu's voice without telling any of his family where he was going

is anyone else weirded out by bonzle why is her face shaped like that. why doesn't she look other skulkin.

"what if jay has amnesia" what if he doesn't. what if he chose to join the administration because he thought it was the best way he could help people where he ended up but he's just really bad at it.

does that mean nya and jay both landed in the realm of madness? i think nya said she was somewhere else before meeting the craglings, so probably not, but that's something to think about.

man and i thought sora couldn't get any more trans coded. honestly i was surprised how refreshing it was to have a character confront their parents and go "actually, fuck you, i don't owe you anything, and i have a new family that loves me for who i am"

that said it's kind of funny that her parents were the only ones who still believed in beatrix. if there was more time it could have been interesting to see imperium splitting into two factions over this

i was completely expecting the ninja to find zeatrix and restore her to the throne, since that's basically what happened with benthomaar and vania. honestly bold move to completely topple the monarchy and establish that imperium is going to be led by a democratic council from now on. old ninjago could never

ok so the wildness is its own realm. this raises even more questions about where wyldfyre came from

overall really good season and i'm looking forward to seeing where they go next
