Hi!! Not sure if you’ve answered this before but can max control whether he goes into Charles’s dream world? Is it intentional on max’s behalf that he hasn’t been there since their fight?

he can't control it, no.

in the past I've described Max's dream world as his subconscious punishment. it originally manifested as his bad memories because he thinks he's a bad person and deserves to be punished - so his mind makes him relive his worst moments to remind him of that.

now that he has this option of Charles' dream world, the way I imagine it is that when Max is happy, he'll go to Charles'. when he is in a 'punishment' frame of mind, he gets sent to his own. so currently he's still in this spiral of thinking he's a terrible person, so he's in his own.

hii, i have a question about the dream worlds:

So we know that Charles' is a fixed place where they can walk around, but Max' is like a Top 5 Worst Moments of My Life. So how would it work, if (completely hypothetically of course) Charles' visited Max' dream world?

Would he just be there as adult Charles, watching Max' memories? For example, the carting in the snow memory, would Charles just stand on the sidelines, watching little Max crash?

Or would he also relive his own worst memories, so they would each dream "independently", just with the same overarching theme? Or would he see and feel it all from Max' perspective, as if he was Max experiencing it all himself?

I think it's a wonderful piece of world building, so I'm really interested in the mechanics of it.

Uuu so Max coming to Charles dreamworld was like a gift for him because his dreamworld is punishing him. And him not wanting to be bitten my Charles so that Charles can't come to his dreamworld is essentially protecting Charles from his dreamworld. I hope I'm right. Anyways amazing chapter like always, it was right after my exams so the best gift ever for me, thank youuuu

Is Max coming to Charles' Dreyma Ver-öld related to Max's feelings as well? He didn't show up since the fight, is that because he was angry, miserable, guilty, embarrassed?

Max (or anybody else) can't control which dream world they go to, it's very much subconscious.

so yeah, it's very much down to his feelings. he's in a 'punishment' mind set, and so his mind is sending him to his dream world to, well, punish him.

OK NOW I was re-reading the first chapters (because I’ve been more obsessed than usual with WYGIG recently) and I just got reminded of the shed in Charles’ Dreyma Ver-öld. I honestly don’t remember if we already know what is in there, but has it got to do with Jules and Hervé?? Or with Charles’ experiences/thoughts about being an omega during his childhood??? I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT

I don't remember if it was mentioned before but how would sophie's dream world work? How could she escape jos there?

And also, can we get a little clue about where charles' head is at? Maybe a snippet?

well, it's kind of a complicated question. Sophie can't escape Jos once he's actually in her Dream World - hence the references to Sophie seeing him in there; going to sleep normal and waking up with a black eye in the morning.

but what Max and Sophie actually worked on was trying to stop Jos from ever getting in there in the first place; which is extremely difficult, and not often successful. they would also have worked on her trying to manipulate her Dream World so that it keeps him away from her, once he actually gets in. again, to varying degrees of success.

as for where Charles' head is at ... he's confused. hurt. pretty angry. running on instinct, but denying those instincts as well. lashing out, but trying hard to figure out what's going on - while still missing so many key pieces of information.

I have been vaguely confused about the dream world in this universe. But it's possible that I am not interpreting it correctly and additionally don't have a great memory, so I wanted to ask - Charles's dream world is kind of a physical place within the dream world, but Max's dream world is essentially a replay of one or more of his terrible memories at a time. Right?

If so, why this difference?

I remember you said it's sort of a manifestation of each of their subconscious. But I don't really get the difference of how differently it actually manifests.

I hope this didn't come across as rude. I'm just trying to grasp the concept because it's a little abstract for me.

it is a fairly abstract concept.

I guess the best way of thinking about it would be to think that there are no rules (obviously aside from how it can be accessed).

but the dream world itself is nebulous. it IS a subconscious manifestation, but is also a bit of a lawless land. the anon that said that Charles' dream world is a place of comfort because his mind knows he needs comfort, whereas Max's is a place of punishment because he thinks he deserves punishment, is pretty much exactly spot on.

Max's is also very unusual. it's much more common for the dream world to be a physical place, but Max is just ... very traumatised, has never really processed his emotions, and doesn't have much control over his own mind.

there is a couple more pieces to the puzzle coming within the story which I think will round out the concept a bit more. but for now, I hope this helps!

you said to another anon that max can’t choose what Dream World he goes to and it got me thinking about why they’re different for Max and Charles. I think it’s to do with their subconsciouses so for example Max feels like he needs to be punished so he relives all his terrible memories whereas Charles needs a place of comfort so that’s what his Dream World provides. I think it would be such a weird hybrid world if Charles bit Max back though.

honestly, your guess about why their dream world's manifested is never really going to come up in the fic, because neither Charles nor Max either a) know enough about it or b) are going to be that self aware. so I'm totally comfortable with saying that you're entirely spot on, anon.

there's one slight piece of information your missing, which I won't go into because it's a spoiler, but what I'll say is: lets not forget the little shed in Charles'.

as for the second part ... it definitely would be. but, then, at that point, Max may not feel the need to punish himself any more ... so it could manifest differently.

i have a qn about their dream worlds. can max choose to go to Charles’ dream world instead of his own (bc if he can then he’s choosing Charles’ every time lol) or is it just a thing that happens that he can’t decide? and if Charles bites back can they both go into each others dream worlds freely?

no, Max can't choose which one he goes to!

but there will be more about this later.

and if Charles bites him back, it will kind of create a new dream world. almost like a "combined" place. or, at least, theoretically that's what would happen, but Max's Dream World is fairly fucked up, as we've seen in the past.

I agree with the "going near the throat -> bite -> access to his (horrible) Dreyma Ver-öld" theory so on that note, I wanted to ask if there is anything or anyone that can make one's Dreyma Ver-öld better or worse. And how is one's Dreyma Ver-öld triggered or decided (like what would it look like, what would one relive when they're in there, etc.)?

welllllllll I'm not going to answer the better/worse question, bc that's going to be a plot point sometime soonish.

as for how it's triggered/decided, it's really a manifestation of the subconscious. Charles has his childhood apartment because it's a safe place for him, but Max's relives bad memories because he feels like he has to punish himself. They didn't decide what their dream world's were, but they're absolutely a result of their personalities and the way they think.

sorry if this has been asked before, but where did you get the inspiration for the name of the dreyma ver-öld? it's such a unique aspect of the work that i really enjoy! what was the motivation to include a dream world/more mystical element in the fic?

Dreyma Ver-öld is Old Norse for Dream World! Which, yes, I did choose that purposefully, but idk if that piece of lore is ever going to make its way into the fic??

and the inspiration was actually @saiyanwitcher. she read it elsewhere, and said she'd love to see a lestappen fic with it. but it's funny, because you said why did I decide to include that element, when actually this fic happened the other way around - that was the first thing to be decided, and the auction and the characters were built around that.

Do you know when we will see the Dreyma Ver-öld back? Or are Max and Charles still seeing each other there every night and Charles still plays piano and nothing else? I can understand that if it doesn’t have any influence on the plot you won’t write about it. Even though I would still read everything if every chapter is like 50000 words 😅

And do you think you will also introduce the other Leclerc family members, like his mom or brothers, in this fic?

currently you can safely assume that not much is going on there - aside from, yeah, some piano playing and some comfortable silences.

but it's about to make a reappearance! in ch 15 I believe.

yes and yes! and you do kind of already know what Max's looks like - in chapter 7, he had the dream about his mother, and Max says this about it:

"Max is ripped from his Dreyma Ver-öld unceremoniously. 

His heart is pounding, as it always does when he’s forced to relive bad memories in the Dream World, and it takes him a moment to place where he is or why he woke up so abruptly. 

He blinks up at the ceiling, taking a deep breath to try and calm himself down. He presses his palm into one eye, scrubbing it down his cheek, trying to rub sensation back into his face. 

Fuck, that was a bad one. Charles’ Dreyma Ver-öld is so much more peaceful than his own. He didn’t even know that some people weren’t forced to watch their memories unfold every night."

I guess Max must have known that something was wrong with Charles when he didn't get to meet Charles in the dream world because he didnt sleep. Do they see each other there every night when Charles sleeps?

not EVERY night, but most nights.

I'm actually about to write a chapter exploring the idea of why there are some nights where Max isn't in Charles' Dream World - but its such a rare occurrence that it's a whole PointTM that he's not there.

as for why Max just have known something was up ... well. he's got a whole range of reasons why he knew something was going on.
