Il West Wall fu completato in un tempo record di circa 15 mesi nel 1939. Si estendeva 630 chilometri da Kleve sul confine olandese a nord fino a Weil am Rhein, al confine con la Svizzera. Sono stati utilizzati 8 milioni di tonnellate di cemento, 1,2 milioni di tonnellate di ferro e oltre 20 milioni di metri cubi di ghiaia e sabbia. L'OT ha eretto grandi strutture a ostacoli come ostacoli anticarro, fossati e ostacoli a gobba lunghi chilometri, mentre i pionieri della fortezza erano responsabili dell'interno e delle strutture di comunicazione e dell'armamento. Circa 14.800 bunker e 9.800 opere furono costruite. Questi lavori consistevano in circa 5.800 rifugi per fanteria e artiglieria, 2.300 installazioni da combattimento come ambrasure per mitragliatrici e postazioni per la difesa anticarro, oltre a circa 1.700 posti di osservazione, combattimento, medici, munizioni e rifornimenti.
