“It wasn’t a question.” Andrew looks through the window at the trees swaying in the wind, so that his mind can focus on something else. It’s not easy though, when the man sitting before him is unable to shut up.

“I can take care of myself, you know.” Neil’s cat ears are flat against his skull and the tail is swishing behind him, showing his displeasure.

Andrew pointedly looks at one of Neil’s bruises and raises his eyebrows, which puts a flush to the man’s cheeks. He mutters something under his breath, but even when Andrew strains his hearing, he can’t decipher the words.

Earlier today, Neil hit his head on the cupboard because he hadn’t noticed it was open. Now a bruise stands against his brow, but it’s already turning green, thanks to the familiar’s natural healing.

“Thank you,” Matt says with a wide smile. For all the posturing Seth does, there is a softer side to him, but nobody believes Matt when he says it, even Dan.

Seth huffs. “Of course.” His hands twitch, as if he wants to do something, but he puts them in his pockets instead. 

The omega has been like that since Matt met him – always fighting his instincts to prove himself tougher. Which is unnecessary, in Matt’s opinion, because omegas can be even more deadly than alphas when you push their buttons. A brief memory of Neil’s feral look when the omega punched Riko flashes in his mind, and he shudders. Yes, it was epic, but Matt wonders how it would end if nobody interfered.

Cautiously, without startling Neil, he reaches into his pocket for a phone. After a quick text to Seth and putting his phone in silent mode, all is left to do is to wait for the man to show up. Matt nuzzles Neil’s neck in comfort when the omega starts getting restless. The scent grows stronger, and the underlying sweetness (burnt sugar? Vanilla?) borders on too-much for Matt’s nose. How do alphas find it alluring? He’d suffocate before getting to the action.

The door clicking open causes Matt to hug Neil protectively. ‘Danger!’ his mind seems to scream at him, but then the scent wafts through the air – caramel and tobacco. Matt lets his body relax at that.

Nathaniel’s back and chest is littered with scars of different sizes, some gained in fights and some in Riko’s bed when the knife came into play. Beside the scars, there’s one mark Riko takes pride in – a tattoo on Nathaniel’s hip depicting Riko’s crest.

When the man is finally naked, Riko gestures towards the tub. “Get in. You’re filthy.” Fortunately, the blood didn’t seep through the clothes onto Nathaniel’s skin, but he wants to make sure that his pet is in pristine condition.

Surprisingly, Nathaniel sits down in the tub without complaint. It makes Riko suspicious.

Jeremy shakes his head at the nickname. Once, he tried stopping Nathaniel from using it, but obviously it was pointless. The man only looked at him, the gaze feeling like Jeremy’s soul was being judged. Then he just walked away without any comment, and Jeremy thought that was the end of the subject.

They both move to the washroom, where at the center stands a large bathtub filled with hot water. Riko waves a hand, dismissing Jean who’s been waiting for them in the corner. With a quick bow, he disappears from the room, probably glad that he doesn’t have to witness the upcoming events.
