Elevator Pitches
December 15, 2023|Blogging
Just what is an "Elevator Pitch?" Well, it is what it sounds like, or, to clarify, how long it takes. It should be about as quick as riding an elevator up or down to your floor, but it gets you to where you want to go. A short, to-the-point pitch, that sums up the subject and generates interest in a project, idea, or product – or in yourself. So keep it short and sweet, and "Enjoy the Ride!" KSCarson

Query Process
December 14, 2023|Blogging
As a writer, your goal is to get published. I mean, how are you supposed to have readers if not published? That is where the query process, or letter, comes in. After all, the query is where you make contact with the proposed agent, editor, or publisher. It is your time to impress and hook them on. They have to be interested in something special, to lure them in and want to hear more. Homework is a must, you need to target the right area of your work, for example, if you do fiction, querying a nonfiction agent will do you no good. And don't forget an important part of the query letter, the closing. This is when you should politely thank the agent or editor for their time, and let them know, that you are prepared to send the appropriate additional materials at their request. Hopefully, you'll hear back! And as always, "Enjoy the Write. KSCatson

Following Industry Careers
December 11, 2023|Blogging
When we think of a writer, we generally think about fiction novels. But there are so many other jobs in the writing industry. Some include sports or gaming writers, healthcare, travel, or real estate writers. Freelance writers are another way to have a career as a writer. A copywriter says it all, but most people don't really consider them as a writer. Proofreading and editing fall under this category. One that is often overlooked, but very important is a speechwriter, not all of us can write our own dialogue when we have to stand up in front of a crowd and give a well-written speech. Did I leave any out, let me know, and remember, "Enjoy the Write!" KSCarson
