Wright Around Trees: passageway between his 1889 Home and 1898 Studio built around two trunks of a willow tree, 1908 Isabel Roberts House with a tree growing through it (now just a stump) and 1936 Fallingwater beam curving around a tree.

Amazing landmark buildings. Frank Lloyd Wright was Chief Draftsman at Adler and Sullivan when the Auditorium Building was designed and the Rookery lobby as shown is as remodeled by Wright.

Chicago’s architecture is famous throughout the world and one style is referred to as the Chicago School. Much of its early work is also known as Commercial style. In the history of architecture, the first Chicago School was a school of architects active in Chicago at the turn of the 20th century. They were among the first to promote the new technologies of steel-frame construction in commercial buildings, and developed a spatial aesthetic which co-evolved with, and then came to influence, parallel developments in European Modernism. The 1889 Auditorium Theatre Building, Chicago, IL. Designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler, Frank Lloyd Wright as their young draftsman. After it was completed, Adler & Sullivan had their offices in the tower, including an office for Wright. Wright’s work on his “bootleg” houses led to his split with Sullivan in 1993.

1909 Unity Temple, Oak Park, IL and 1956 Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wauwatosa, WI. Almost half a century apart, these house of worship are very different, but also very similar. The shapes and use of balconies positions all seating close to the alter, clerestory windows make the roof appear to float and screen outside distractions, dramatic light fixtures add drama.
