I like that not only is he pathetic in addition to being a little shit, but he turns being pathetic into an advantage. He's like the "just a little guy" approach taken to the extreme.

Yay. Was unaware any of the protags would have fun physical abilities. Thought I was mostly their minds and personalities that were crafted by the Academy or whoever.

So far Gordon is the least interesting of the Lambs. I never hear fans talk about him, so my guess is he doesn't get more interesting or he dies within the first handful of arcs.
I'm thinking the latter, but we will see.

"I've got my hands full with my book and this umbrella, and I need to scratch my nose,” Jamie said.  “Can you give me a hand?”
I turned my back on Rick, and advanced to the front of the group, where Jamie was walking alongside Eliza and Fran, the only two girls around our age that weren’t Helen, and all three of them were carrying large umbrellas to shelter themselves and a few small children from the water.  I reached up and scratched his nose for him.  He scrunched it up suitably, provoking a laugh from some of the smallest children in the herd.
Breaking tension.
"I meant for you to take my umbrella,” he said, but he was smiling a little.  He started walking, and our group started moving again.  I took the umbrella from him, holding it with both hands and falling in step  between him and Fran, prompting a, “Thank you.”
They are so cute

Based off fanart I've seen, thought Sy had brown hair. Jesus, do wb protagonists really only come with one of two different hair colors?

I have begun reading Worm in addition to Twig, for better or worse. I haven't gotten far in either on account of the whole getting married and honeymoon thing.
Hopefully I'll be able to keep it a balanced back and forth but more than likely one will take over the other.

Finally picking back up my read of Twig. And gonna say again how much I enjoy having a protagonist who is a Little Shit.
May start reading Worm too??
May do a more dedicated and organized liveread of that though.
I already know a lot of the plot and spoilers from my wife's description. I kind of want to do a post explaining what I think the plot is from my scattered memories so I can look on it afterwards and see how far off I was.
I'm cool with spoilers for stuff I'm not actively reading (and sometimes stuff that I am). It often is what incentivizes me to read stuff in the first place. So if you wanna try to convince me to read Worm while I also read Twig, feel free to include whatever plot and character details you want.

Finally starting Twig properly. May do liveread type posts as I make my way through.
Unlike with Worm, which I also haven't read, I don't know too many plot details about it, but I do know broad sweeps and characters details, including which ones is trans, via my wife.
Which means I can appreciate lines like this on my first read through.

Maybe there is more context I'm not aware of and iirc Jessie comes about after Jamie dies or pseudodies and there is memory loss and all.
But still. egg lol.

Huh?

I knew it took place in an alt early 20th century but the fact that there are cars is weird to me. Like my notions of the world was that it was very Victorian in aestehtic and technology that isn't biopunk technology.

Since some folks have been curious about my Wildbow serial reading order (mostly the fact that Worm wasn't first), I figured I put the official explanation/order as it's own post to reference back too.
In 2020 my wife had read all of the WB serials and was currently reading Pale. She was telling about it and the setting and story sounded interesting. This was before Pale went off the rails and became a mess.
So I started it, with a few false starts, ie I read a chapter or two, stopped, waited a few months, had to restart, etc. By the time I caught up it was already on what I call Pale 2 (post Carmine Contest) and I was already invested.
After catching up with Pale, I read Pact. Pact so far has been the only Wildbow serial I started and then finished with no false starts or gaps in my reading it. Started it and read it nearly every day for weeks until I finished. Just the kind of story it is.
The next one I was gonna read was Twig actually. Got an arc or two in but got distracted by other books.
Around the same time I read the first couple arcs of Worm. Again got distracted by other things. (This was during a few month stretch I was getting married and getting major surgery on my face).
While I did sound interesting, I wasn't sure if I was ever gonna read Worm at first. I haven't really been all that into superhero stuff these past few years, and while I known Worm is different than most, I wasn't quite ready to devote all that time to it.
It was actually this animatic and my wife's explanation of what was going on in each scene that convinced me that I would eventually read it.
youtube
So my official Wildbow serial reading order has been
Pale (up to 17.b)
Pact
Pale (as it came out)
Twig and Worm (false starts/only first couple arcs)
Worm (currently reading; on 14.8)
I joked in the past about reading Ward before Worm, but the more I hear about it, even from people who don't hate it, the less I'm inclined to read it at all. Twig will definitely come first, regardless.
