I've just finished making these ancient Roman inspired "laurel wreath" crowns out of jewel beetle shells and preserved 17 year cicada wings. I've done three of the jewel beetle ones, so one is in my Etsy (link in bio), the cicada wing one is one of a kind so far so I haven't listed it yet. I'm really happy with how these came out!

How do five fallen gods pass their time in paradise? Together, hopefully.
And finally, after nearly 30 hours of work, it is done.
I got a little lazy with the background but forgive me, last day of vacation and my ipad was riding on 13% the entire time I was working on this hhghh
Anyway have the Bishops in fancy dresses/robes/whatever you wanna call them (let's be real they're dresses) and if anyone even TRIES to tell me Kallamar would not be THAT extra I will not believe you <3
Anyway included the individual figures bc covering 60% of Leshy's outfit broke my heart, every single flower in this image was done by hand. I did not copy and paste ANY of them and my wrist demands y'all look at Leshy's outfit
So this is related to the Song of the Eternal comic I did a bit ago, where eventually former gods will hear a song calling them to the Eternal Lands once their time is up. This is probably quite some time after the Bishops have settled into their eternal lives in this eternal land, and have adjusted to living their new lives (alongside familiar faces from their past) in peace.
I want to do more with this AU.... there is some really painful good NariLamb crumbs and LeshyCat moments. Resisting the urge to spoil the ending of the story haha
I really want to make a comic from this AU instead of writing it out bc there's some visuals from it I don't think would be captured as well in words...... of course I could do an illustrated fic.... hm.
#Cult of the Lamb#cotl Narinder#cotl Shamura#cotl Heket#cotl Leshy#cotl Kallamar#Song of the Eternal AU#Justa Arts#don't think about the Lamb avoiding the Bishops only to finally start getting to know them right before having to say goodbye#don't think about yellow cat and Leshy being separated by both divinity and actual distance#Lamb will at least see them again... yellow cat however... unless.... :)#also Kallamar just casually on his way to give his siblings flower wreath crowns#Leshy is lowkey judging but he wants that crown so he'll keep his mouth shut

Little idle thought I've been having recently but I think Cyparissus' story is very important for characterising Apollo and Apollo's love. It's so easy to think of love and loss as two ends of a spectrum, likewise, so often, death is seen as an ultimate and tragic end in love stories - something final and inescapably tragic, the only force that halts love by separating the lovers.
Cyparissus' story is... not that. Yes, the deer dies and one can conclude then that death is once more at the heart of separating two lovers, but I think Cyparissus specifically requesting to die, specifically begging Apollo to let him grieve forever even after Apollo has done his best to help Cyparissus move on from the accident and Apollo letting him is a powerful thing.
Because Apollo not only puts Cyparissus' wishes over his own, he's also able to see past his own building grief to immortalise Cyparissus in such a way that both grants him his wish and allows other people to glorify Cyparissus as well! And I think such a beautiful thing is something criminally overlooked!
It's become something of a joke that 'all Apollo's lovers turn into plants' but from a functional perspective, flowers are the most brilliant way to keep the spirit of a beloved thing alive. Flowers are like stars - as long as there are humans, humans will always contemplate the nature of flowers and as the god of poetry and song, Apollo creating opportunities for his beloved mortals to be remembered eternally even if they never seized glory in the traditional way is such an intimate and beautiful thing. Even then, Cyparissus is elevated to a similar status as Daphne with Apollo's actions - not merely a plant or flower but one that specifically symbolises him, one that is extremely fragrant and beloved by him. Just as Daphne's laurels were synonymous with glory and victory, Cyparissus' cypress became a emblematic of grief and remembrance. Even today, thousands of years later, people still view cypress trees as mourning trees and plant them in cemeteries and use the ash in incense burnt in remembrance of others. How's that for Apollo keeping his word.
#ginger rambles#I think we should talk more about how Apollo's ability to immortalise people into those coveted halls of memory is so often done out of love#and how it is the closest many of his beloved mortals will ever get to godhood but even that is leagues better than the hundreds of warriors#and kings and scholars who worked for glory their whole lives only to be forgotten and lost among the sea of time and history#And then you have Daphne and Hyacinthus and Coronis Cyparissus and Evadne even Branchus whose affair is marked with the sprawling arms#or trees and forests - who would ever say they were unloved?#Daphne is eternally interesting to me btw because like idk what anyone says it doesn't matter that Apollo was hexed to love her by Eros#Even if what Apollo felt wasn't 'true' love he did feel true regret and made real and true penitence. Apollo literally spent#the rest of his immortal days wearing Daphne's laurels and making her his symbol until she became so synonymous with gods and glory that she#became symbolic of the gods and their kings themselves! Like!! It's obscure knowledge now that gods like Zeus and Poseidon had their own#preferred plants to wear as wreath crowns because laurel-crown is so iconic as the Look of a greek god#how could you not see that as love? even if it's retroactive? Apollo worked so hard to give her the glory he robbed from her and people#still choose to focus on the chase + transformation and “oh well Apollo and Daphne wasn't a love story it was assault/a curse!!”#my brother in Christ it counted to Apollo so it counts to me too#anyway just something I've been thinking about#apollo#cyparissus#daphne#greek mythology#ginger chats about greek myths

A Knight and Cupid Before a Castle Door by Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale
Cupid, the god of love, is the custodian of the keys to this castle. The knight, who wears a laurel wreath around his helmet indicating victory, must convince Cupid that he is fit to enter. Slung at the side of the knight’s charger are a crown, another laurel wreath, and a sleeping (or dead) dragon.

The brutal contrast of Lava Lamp instantly agreeing to stay in the castle vs Syaoran at the start of Tsubasa having the same offer but continually refusing it, because he didn’t think it was proper.
And maybe that’s a natural difference between different sets of people in slightly different scenarios, or maybe it’s the general decline from 'Good' things into less good things when the timeline was interfered with. Like how previously Fujitaka was king and happily married to Nadeshiko, but the next time around Clow was king and Nadeshiko was nowhere to be seen, with Fujitaka already passed away. Like how Sakura used to be involved in purity rituals in the reservoir, but then it was just a ruin being excavated and nothing to do with Sakura.
I mostly just have a growing list of suspicions but let’s put a pin in it for now.
OH
NOW THAT IS PRECIOUS
#A crown of clover?#A wreath of three leaf clovers…?#OH wait no there is one with four leaves near the bottom#Very sneaky#A tiny piece of incredible luck#Hidden amongst something otherwise entirely ordinary#Like this moment in general#Liveblogging the reservoir chronicle#Tsubasa#Vol 191#Lava Lamp Guy#Sakura#Which Sakura?#A Sakura#And it would take someone with luck like Sakura to find a four leaf clover in the first place#... UNLESS THE LUCK ISN'T IN THIS TIMELINE#What if the Luck was like Residual Timeline Changes In the Form of Luck#HMM#Ok let's climb back out of the rabbit hole#hit post

Crown of Thorns, a Lent/Easter-like wreath.
This is a very recent Lent tradition I got to learn from a Homeschool mom, friend of my family's, and I don't know how authorized I'm to publicy share it with you, but I wanted to talk about it. Consists on taking an advent wreath base and instead of filling it up with pine branchs you fill it with chopsticks, as to simulate the thorn crown Christ carried in His Head. Everytime you make a good action for someone, or you make a sacrifice, you replace one thorn with a flower. So when Easter arrives, you have now a Crown of Flowers! It’s like comforting Jesus with your good actions, replacing His suffering with love!
