Murder on the Orient Express
by Agatha Christie
a book review
(!Spoilers! duh)
Last week I read “Murder on the Orient Express”. The language used is quite simple and straight forward, not much energy is wasted on describing meaningless details. This in itself is not a big deal, however it is quite telling if a detail is mentioned, because then you rightfully would assume that it is a puzzle piece necessary to solve the murder. This does make it much more obvious and less fun to solve the mystery (which wasn’t rly possible anyway but oh well).
Let’s set the scene:
The Orient Express is filled to the brim with passengers during a cold winter night. An intense snow storm forces the train to stop dead in its tracks. In the morning, the train still not having moved, a body is discovered. Who could have done it? Fortunately Hercule Poirot, a skilled detective, is also on board and gets asked to take the case.
Here arises the first problem for me:
HERCULE POIROT
(I will admit, that this was the first book of Poirot I have ever read, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from him as a character)
I don’t want to lie, I did expect kind of a french Sherlock Holmes (Omg the French don’t get me started on that) However it is not exactly what Poirot is. He didn’t rly impress with crazy combination or observation skills. To me it felt as tho he was just quite good at guessing and got lucky a lot? Like A LOT. Plus he admitted that himself? Personally I would have preferred to look into his mind a little more, it would have made the whole thing much more interesting. It was a guessing game, however reading about how he concluded what to guess might have been more entertaining, especially considering that the reader was not privy to crucial information.
The only thing rly making him stand out knowledgewise was the trick that made the writing on the letter reappear. However that whole thing drove me up a tree anyway, since it was just a tad bit too much luck for my taste that he was able to recover a full name, which happened to be the main clue for why the victim was murdered. Also also him assuming Mr. Ratchetts real identity from just the name on the letter did not feel coherent to me. Like oh this man has a weird vibe to him and there is the name of a murdered girl on a letter in his room, he HAS TO BE a serial child killer. (???)
Sexism and weird nationality stuff?
When the body is discovered with 12 stab wounds to some men on the train the case seems to be nearly solved. It must have been a woman! Obviously only women get emotional enough to murder someone with more stabs than necessary. Men no emotion, men never emotion, emotion girly stuff. Except if u are italian than it might have been u since it “fits your southern temper”??? But do not worry, everyone in this book gets their fair share of prejudice and stereotype! I do understand it was a different time when the book was released, but unfortunately these parts aged like milk.
Who did it?
Sooo huge SPOILER: It was everyone on the train!
Midway thru the book I did think to myself, well what if it was everyone? Wouldn’t that be cool? It wouldn’t. I dismissed that thought since I decided it would be too lazy from a writers perspective. Once everyone committed the crime, no one did. All of a sudden it doesn’t matter who was where at what time and what they saw or heard. It stops being about collecting clues and simply becomes about mashing a bunch of people together in the most random guessing game to give all of them the same goal. As a result the final revelation was quiet unsatisfactory.
The Plan
Twelve people had all decided to kill a man, bc he was the murderer of a little girl, Daisy Armstrong, which they all were connected to. (Thank god Poirot happened to know so much about that case that happened years ago) The connection usually being that they had previously worked for the family of the girl or being directly related to her. This is a point I personally do find weird. Some had quite believable motives, while it seemed that others went along bc Daisy was kind of a cute child? That wouldnt rly be enough for me but go off Agatha.
Their plan was pretty complicated. They would one by one sneak into the victims room and every person would stab him ONE time. That way, they claim, it “would not be possible to tell who’s strike was the actual final blow that killed him” (humbug). Then they made up a whole spiel about a woman in a red kimono and a guy dressed up as a train conductor, planted fake clues and gave each other alibis.
Of course it was in their best interest to keep the wagon to themselves. No outsiders, no witnesses. For that reason they paid for an compartment in the train, knowing they didn’t actually have another person to fill it with. If Poirot and his homie would not have come along, the wagon would have only carried twelve murderers and one victim. Meaning that this crazy game of dressing up would have been completely unnecessary??? They even stated that they practiced the whole thing on their way east, so that they could go through with it on the way back. But WHY this complicated plan, if they had actually planned not to be sharing the wagon? It seems to be too elaborate for them to have made it up on the spot, once they realized they would not be traveling alone. Plus another question that bothers me: Bc there were no more first class compartments left, Poirot actually shared a second class one with one of the killers (McQueen) for the first nights. How did they plan to avoid that? It could have been anyone in that second class room and they only got lucky bc Bouc moved to the other wagon once it became possible, so that Poirot could sleep in a First class compartment. What would they have done, if someone would have just stayed with Mr. McQueen in his bunk bed for the whole ride???
Conclusion
Why is this considered a classic?
Unfortunately I have to admit to not rly having liked this book so I can not recommend it. However if u haven’t read it yet, maybe go do so just so that we can have a chat about it. If u have already read it: Feel free to answer my questions and/or tell me about your opinion. I’ll be waiting.
All in all one round match out of twelve stab wounds

chapter 214 ramble - spoilers!
okay, i am happy about some parts (obvs the dadzawa moments and the monoshin, ee) but the rest of it? ugh!
- i like that vlad is the first person shown in this panel! he clearly loves his kids and is concerned about them, even going as far as calling out aizawa for having a soft spot for them... gotta admit, aizawa admitting that that’s the case is surprising, i would think that he’d say something about logic or whatever. but i guess it’s how his character is progressing? he’s getting more and more invested in the students.
- while i have to admit that the mina-mineta team is a force to contend with (who knew that grape rush was this useful?) it was still really hard to read =_= because jeeze that lil perv has to act like a perv in the middle of a serious battle wtf? lost his chance at being respectable, altho i gotta admit that he’s beyond help
- mina’s great for still being able to work with that creep in the name of professionalism but still yuck. i really felt violated for her and reiko and yui
- and speaking of the 1b kids, i hate that they’re suddenly helpless. even though mineta’s flying around those balls and shit, surely reiko and yui could have done more than just duck??? i mean there are traps and stuff but after ducking couldn’t they have embiggened-poltergeisted the shit out of their opponents? and why is it up to shoda to watch out for them? ah, maybe it’s just me and my poor comprehension of action scenes???
- ah, but my boy tsuburaba and my cutie manga made cameos in a lil panel and im happy about that
- and i love the shot of bakugou watching silently while jirou’s wondering out loud about deku and ochako... again, another crumb for my kacchako shipper heart to over-analyze dont mind me
- and NOW the most frustrating part
- why, why hori, wHY you gotta do Monoma like that
- you are so being fuckin’ unfair dude... i mean, you gave this kid a really tough backstory, a challenging technical quirk to work with, a really interesting over-the-top personality and you just blatantly throw him to the sidelines like this
- i mean i know i was excited about ochako and monoma fighting but this is just humiliating -- it’s so easy to take Monoma down, and for all the badassery Ochako does with her brute strength and her quirk, she still looks like just a support to Deku who wasn’t even using his quirk wth--
- i mean--logically--why would Deku send himself to face Shinsou, who they’re considering the biggest threat in the group when he isn’t even planning to use his quirk??? Why not Ochako, who has a good quirk and brute strength and less incentive to talk back to Shinsou???!?!?!?!!?!?!
- jfc--this is wahat im talkin about, shes gonna be stuck in a support role 5eva
- i felt so bad seeing monoma on the ground in utter defeat!!! and deku and ochako not even considering him a threat anymore and focusing on shinsou--ugh, excuse me Monoma is a big threat you guys, it’s the MonoShin tandem that was supposed to bring you down and not just Shinsou!!!! Why is he suddenly so insignificant?? Why is he written as nothing more than just a big mouth with a quirk that won’t work on our blessed hero????
- i just--ugh i can’t even explain myself properly!!! it’s just unfaiiiririiiiirrrrrr im throwin a tantrum for him
- the only good part about this is Shinsou realizing that he has to save Monoma (swOOOOONing my way to hell, oh my god MonoShin is real) -- it isn’t just a one-sided thing, ugh I’m so happy for Monoma’s lovelife i mean--
- and I love the little sliver of the Dadzawa and Shinson!!! it’s... strangely similar to the fic i wrote before (but never mind that, I kinda wish I wrote that story differently LOL). Aizawa is really the perfect mentor to Shinsou, and dare I say it, Shinsou is the perfect mentee for Aizawa. Shinsou wouldn’t have progressed so far without Aizawa’s mentoring, and maybe Aizawa wouldn’t be as soft as he is now were it not for Shinsou (... and the rest of 1A)
- But whatever that doesnt matter. Shinsou’s hard work and Monoma’s plans and Shouda and Yui and Reiko’s seamless teamwork is for naught
- because of Deku’s deus-ex-machina quirk
- this is the first time I’m not rooting for Deku to win tbh--the quirk was killing him literally moments ago. it only takes a flashback sequence to Hellboy to have control of that shit?? Really???
- what happened to the months of mastering the strength-boosting aspect of OfA huh??? Is he really gonna have it easy from now on???
- in conclusion. i am bitter
- please let me know if i read some things wrong because i rly want to feel better about this. thanks

What do you think of Riko as a character inside the books? (no HCs) / Any fave HCs you want to share? / Any pairings/ships you like with him? / fic recs? / art recs? / Kevin&Riko - do they have/had feelings for each other? / Thoughts on his finale scene? / Did you read Nora's extra content? // tag other bloggers you think have something interesting to say about him! (maybe someone we don't know yet??) #Thoughts on Riko Moriyama
What do you think of Riko as a character inside the books? (no HCs) From a writer’s point of view? He’s a fucking tragedy. (and no, I don’t mean the pieces of background story we did get on him, that’s been said and discussed before) He’s kind of the worst villain a story can have - and here is why:
Riko is ‘one’ of the book’s antagonists, and to quote my German lit. teacher: “Antagonists act while heroes react.” - meaning it is often a villain who initiates any kind of dramatic change in a story. That said, why is Riko Moriyama a bad example of a villain? A good villain needs a plausible background story. The reader needs to actually understand what happened to the character in order to make him into what he is today. A good villain started out as an ‘ordinary’ person, same as a hero. Both undergo a series of events to turn them into what they are. If not enough depth and character development is put into a story the character becomes lifeless, doesn’t spark any kind of interest within the reader and (in this case) the villain becomes a ‘plot device’ - meaning someone who does evil things to create scenes that show more light on the main character and his reactions. (Neil has to suffer through some pretty over the top and kinda unexplained abuse from Riko in order to add to the tragedy and heroic survival in his character’s development). [unexplained meaning: Riko could just have done a million other things to him - it wouldn’t make much of a difference. As long as it fits the excessive violent behavior category it would have worked plot wise. There is no explanation why he is using knives (other than that it fits the whole scar theme of the books (Kevin, Andrew, Neil, Jean… all of them have scars)) … ] Or, to be very harsh here and I know it’s not quite THAT bad, think of those silly cartoons, Road Runner and Coyote - you know the coyote will do any kinds of destructive things, you don’t know why, it’s just his role, he’s a plot device.
Of course there are ways to create a great villain without spending many pages on his background story. Take Makishima Shogo e.g. (PsychoPass season one), we know next to nothing about his background, yet he is one of my favorite antagonists. His character feels real because there are enough little aspects about him that add depth: he likes to read books (physical copies because ebooks lack character), he likes to quote from those books to drive his point home, he likes to dip his sweets into tea… - non of that makes him better/worse at changing/destroying society, but it gives us an idea of who the man behind that criminal mastermind is.
Sadly, we only get the smallest glimpses of Riko. Overall his name is being mentioned 595 times in the trilogy, but we encounter him only a few times. Most of his actions happen behind the scenes. He’s also the best kind of HC goldmine you can find. Wasted potential makes for great fan content because there is so much left to explore (no matter if the author had to cut all the information out or cba to come up with anything to begin with. The fields of imagination are endless my friends!) Or, as Nora explained: “I wanted a stronger antagonist, so I kept giving him more power–and then I tore a chunk of it away in the final draft out of necessity. He had more presence in the second-to-last draft, just as Neil’s father did, but I had to delete entire chunks to balance the story out…” Basically all the information we have on Riko comes from Nora’s extra content (his whole backstory is in there). If you read it his character starts to make sense, becomes interesting and worth exploring. But it is what it is. You can’t really blame the readers for hating Riko Moriyama when they pick up the books for the first time. He is a shadow of a character in there. And let’s be honest, the extra content “doesn’t count” in many reader’s opinion. If it’s not in the books it didn’t happen! (true to some degree, but I’m not a purist. I research and dig for those extra pieces of information. I’d rather have four books with all the information on the side characters in there, I don’t need a sequel.)  So, conclusion: If you hate Riko Moriyama, consider reading Nora’s extra content and give him another shot. He is quite interesting.
Any fave HCs you want to share?oh geez…. endless supply of those • Young Riko wide-eyed on his first trip outside of the Nest (supervised &!! unsupervised) like… the things he wants to see/eat/try/buy, (with Kevin by his side/the whole team/on his own/some Moriyama bodyguard), him buying ice cream (wow that’s sweet), fast food (not rly his thing, too greasy), clothes (ripped jeans, t-shirts, that amazing black coat he sees on his way back, a hat - because all he has are workout clothes, Exy gear and suits)• Riko doing promo/commercial stuff for the Ravens, playing nice for the staff on set, but wishing some of them a very painful death because they are so fake… (kinda used that one before) • Riko doing drugs/alcohol for the first time (can’t hold his liquor even though Kevin seems to have no problems in that department, and oh, it pisses him off - gets a huge backlash from his uncle afterwards for being an embarrassment to the family name) (drugs are something he can’t really get to terms with. He likes the feeling they give him (at least some of them) but he absolutely hates the aftermath, remembering how they made him open up, bringing him close to losing control…(ravens are against doping btw) • Endless scenes of Riko/Kevin making out… Young Kevin getting curious at some point and the only one around for him to ask is Riko, Riko being so angry that something has to give and sadly that’s Kevin, both of them being hyped after their first official game(win) and making out on Kevin’s bed, both of them getting drunk at the victory celebration and Riko dragging Kevin off to somewhere that’s dangerously public and oh, Kevin, be quiet dammit…
•Kevin is like an octopus while being asleep and Riko can’t stand it, it’s too warm, too sweaty, too heavy, too close…. - that’s why they make out on Kevin’s bed and he leaves afterwards. But there are times he wishes he could just go over there while Kevin is asleep. He does one night, when Kevin has been drinking with the older ravens… he has covered his ass and Kevin is gonna pay for it later… gets into bed behind Kevin and prays he won’t wake up…• Riko not admitting that there is more than Exy in his head sometimes… he likes psychology, astronomy, he’s good at math too and maybe physics would be interesting if the teacher wouldn’t be such a boring moron who takes ages to come to the point… but he can’t tell anyone because all he’s meant to be is the heir of Exy, and rly, what’s the point anyway? Chances are he won’t survive the end of his Exy career… • He likes music and some company gave them these awesome noise cancelling headphones. He likes them but only uses them when he is alone because he needs to hear the people around him…  • He’s an awesome dancer with remarkable body control, and so is Kevin, as they both find out on their first (and last) night at a club…
Any pairings/ships you like with him? Both Riko/Kevin & Kevin/Riko work just fine for me. I’ve written (Raven!)Neil/Riko/Kevin before, and if you put some work and thought into a well crafted AU setting even Riko/(raven!)Andrew works. - If it has to be straight… my best bet would be Allison - she has enough of an attitude to stand her ground.
fic recs?let me give you a few but it rly deserves a full list at some pointwhat if i did by MadHatterNO7 - Kevin/RikoNever More by biffes - Kevin/Riko Kevin/Riko/Jeanignominy by Saul - Kandreil but I still like Riko in this one… baptism by Saul can’t go wrong with Saul aka @unkinglythose are only the ones I can name on the spot…
art recs? Well, there is @shihoran , of course, she’s been posting daily. hers is maybe the sweetest Riko I’ve ever seen (nothing like I imagine him but gorgeous art!) I know @foxesrefuge is working on some stuff (since I’ve seen a glimpse of it! ha! no spoilers though) http://berry-muffin.tumblr.com/post/154991766150/insp-and-a-bonus-because-fuck-riko-moriyama    http://llstarcasterll.tumblr.com/post/157091722582 http://schwarzbrot.tumblr.com/image/138611768689 http://ziegenkind.tumblr.com/post/147315366365/here-you-go-nonnyand…. srsly, we need more Riko art!
Kevin&Riko - do they have/had feelings for each other? According to Nora’s extra content ‘yes’ they had feelings for each other. And I’m not talking the platonic kind of feelings. We’re talking the conflicted ‘adoptive’ brother/romance kind of stuff. Inside the books? Yes, I believe they have a nice textbook example of love/hate relationship to the very end. Riko can’t get over Kevin, even keeps his room untouched (as Neil tells us) and I could write you another two pages about that first interview scene. You can’t just ‘hate’ someone for no reason. Hate is a very personal feeling and it needs some kind of obsession behind it. Kevin tells us that he knows how it is to be with Riko. He also tells us that Riko wasn’t always like the way he is now. He’s gotten worse. You hear the Foxes call Riko a bastard, crazy… yet Kevin usually doesn’t outright insult Riko. Does he love him after what Riko has done to him? Probably not! Did he get rid of all his feelings from the time they grew up and learned to love Exy together? Unlikely.
Thoughts on his finale scene? ¬_¬ you had to… I don’t like it. But that’s my personal (emotionally clouded) opinion. It works as a scene because it is fast paced and written in an almost detached way - like such an experience would be, I imagine. Hard to take in, slow to process, very overwhelming, scattered, scrambled brains and all. The scene itself makes me nearly choke on the tension and displayed/withheld emotions.
Did you read Nora’s extra content? Oh yes! Such an inspiration. I’d love to get my hands on some of the earlier drafts… *cough*moreKandreil/moreRiko*cough*
// tag other bloggers you think have something interesting to say about him! (maybe someone we don’t know yet??) #Thoughts on Riko Moriyama - Already did! :D

ok not to start PLL Discourse™ or anything but: who's your favourite liar? favourite -A? and more importantly - are you also anti t*by/sp*by as well as anti ez*ia? I rly hope so lmao but regardless, have a good day/night, ur one of my fave discourse blogs!! ✌️
putting this under a read more bc it got really really long. PLL spoilers below the cut.
i’m actually going to respond to this is kind of as two people: me the first time i watched PLL (starting the summer after 5th grade) and me rewatching it now as the network does that countdown thing (which i’m way behind on rip)
okay so the first time i watched it, i liked the liars (excluding alison bc i don’t consider her a liar) in the order of 1. hanna and spencer, 2. aria, 3. emily
now, i’m like 1. emily and spencer and hanna, 2. aria
idk why i just find aria very unlikable and kind of boring? maybe it’s some of my hatred for ezra overflowing into hatred for her (which i hope isn’t the case) but it’s so so hard for me to like her and hate her and ezra bc that’s like… her entire character arc. book aria is way better, which is surprising bc for the most part i like the show’s characters more than the books’.
emily is just so good and i’d die for her… the writers really did her dirty what with maya and lyndon and her parents and such and i want to protect her
hanna had a really good character arc when she had to protect her mom (which happened a few times) and like… name one bad thing she did ever i’ll wait…
and spencer is so… hardworking and determined. like so many times we’ve seen her fall apart (for good reason) and claw her way back out of sheer determination. she’s unbelievably strong and i have a lot of respect for her.
favorite A… i’m gonna have to go with mona? like what a boring answer but i think her character is so interesting even post-A and i honestly can’t really figure out if i like her or not which is always something i look for in a character.
thoughts on toby. this is a hard one.
so first-watch me loved toby and spoby. i would blame that on my being younger and Less Wise or whatever but i actually didn’t stop loving them until i rewatched season three, which was very recently? everything was fine until spencer’s downward spiral after she found out he was A (bc i love seasons 1&2 toby) and he just… let her fall apart like that? the real turning point for me was when spencer got locked in the steam room and almost died and i had this flashback to a post i saw years ago that was like “toby had to have done that bc mona was out of town which means that he did it because he was jealous of her and wren how cute” and i was like… that’s not cute that’s abusive!! he let spencer believe their entire relationship was a lie and that he was genuinely evil and then got mad at her for kissing someone else??? i don’t THINK so!!
and he said he did it to protect her but at some point her mental health had to come into play. she was honest to god ready to kill herself for months and he let her believe that. there’s no way it would have killed him to find some way to slip her a “i’m not actually A, all will be explained soon, i love you”-type message, even in code or smthing. that would have been a great episode: spencer gets a message from A that’s written weirdly and has to figure out what it means. it could have been one of those codes where some words are misspelled and the letters put into or taken out of those words spell out the real message and i would have been willing to ignore the fact that there’s no way mona wouldn’t have figured that out if it meant that spencer was okay.
it felt very out-of-character, knowing everything that we know about toby, that he would let spencer believe all of that- including that he was fucking dead, which just about killed her- and it was very out of character for spencer to just… forgive him? i would understand if literally any other character on the show forgave their loved one for doing that but i never understood it for spencer. she said “how could you let me believe that you were dead” and that was the end of it. that’s not spencer. she should have made him fucking grovel to win her back and then i might have been a little less not okay with all of this. but i guess because she thought he was dead it made sense to her to let him just come back into her life.
and i’m going to use this as an opportunity to talk about hanna and caleb, bc if there’s one hetero ship i care about it’s them: caleb would never pull that shit. i love him and he would never pull that shit because it would kill him to see hanna hurt like that (like i’m fairly convinced it would physically kill him) and that’s because he loves her and when you love someone who don’t let them hurt like that. even when spencer and hanna had to protect toby and caleb (respectively), they did it in logical and reasonable ways that didn’t involve making them believe they were dead.

Why do you make packs of things that aren't kid friendly? Like oruan high school host club or assians creed? That should probably not he on a kid friendly blog? Not tying to be mean I really don't understand
Two reasons (kind of more like three):
1. (the shorter reason to explain) The age-regressor community contains a lot of people who, in additions to being age-regressors, are also fictionkin or fictives (someone who identifies as a fictional character or an alter in a system who originated as a fictional character, respectively), with their source material not being child-friendly things. Being that they may well be associated with media that is Not Child Friendly (e.g. Assassin’s Creed or Dragon Age, two games whose characters I can remember making posts for), the goal in those posts is to take something that would be associated with those characters that is child-friendly (IIRC the Assassin’s Creed character also cited that they liked pirate/nautical things because that fit in with the character’s theme in the game, and there’s plenty of kid-friendly stuff around those themes. For the Dragon Age one, I also believe I included a bunch of things that I thought would have appealed to the character when they were a child - like, things they would have used in their context in their childhood. The vast most of characters that exist and that someone can thus be kin/fictive with/of were once children, after all.) If you’re not familiar with the concept of fictionkin then I can attempt to explain that or link to explanatory posts or something, but I wanted to keep this portion of the answer fairly brief. And of course not everyone who asks for things relating to media like that is doing so because they’re one of the characters for it, but there are requesters who make requests that explicitly state they are, or they phrase the message in ways that, because of my personal way of running this blog, get translated to things FOR that character as opposed to necessarily OF them.
2a. Lots of people associate different things with their regression. Given that age-regressors are not physically children, they can be (safely) exposed to things that are Not Child Friendly and be aware of those things when they regress. That means that technically they can have things associated with their regression that an Actual Child wouldn’t be able to associate with their current state of childhood. (I’m of course making the assumption that said child wasn’t significantly exposed to anything Not Child Friendly during their childhood; I’ve known strangely large numbers of people who associate movies like Eraserhead and Pink Floyd: The Wall with their childhood and nostalgia because they were shown them as children. For those people, those Not Child Friendly things would be legitimately associated with childhood, even if they aren’t suitable for kids.) But anyway, some people associate Not Child Friendly things with their experience of child regression, either because the thing makes them happy and happiness makes them regress, the world a fantasy story takes place in is more appealing than the setting the person lives/lived in so they have childlike fantasies about it, there might be a child or child-friendly character in the thing in question so they associate that child character with childhood, the medium reminds them of child-y things (e.g. cartoons or anime that aren’t child-friendly being associated with age-regression bc of their medium, OHSHC is an example due to its medium), etc.
(Weird personal example that you can completely skip but that I wrote because it gives an actual example of something Not Child Friendly that hits most of the above points and because I can analyze it in depth due to it being my thing: I more-than-a-little-bit associate the Hellraiser movies with age-regression despite them not being remotely suitable for children. In my case, it’s because I like that series a lot so it makes me feel extremely happy, which tends to make me age-regress; a lot of people report age-regression brought on by specific emotions, such as happiness. I don’t feel happiness a lot which is why more things don’t make me regress like that. I also have some really extensive headcanons/semi-confirmed-by-canon things about the movie that basically state that even though the demon-like characters who used to be humans now literally live in a Hell Dimension, that dimension is preferable to the lives they’d previously been living so even though it’s a pretty messed-up thing, there’s something really child-ly satisfying about thinking of a fantasy where people can run away to another world that, while also being bad, doesn’t have the specific bad things that made their own world miserable. Yeah, I consume very little media that has actual desirable settings. Also, one of the characters - the one called Chatterer, if you were curious and knew about the movies and wanted to know who from the movies I’m talking about - is a child, or at least can be argued to be one, because spoiler warning they went to the Hell world when they were a child and in one of the movies where the demon-like characters are turned back into humans, Chatterer turns into a human child despite having been played by an adult until then, so I see them and go “yay fellow child”. Again, kinda messed-up but that’s what my brain does. I turned this tangent into its own paragraph because I realized that’s how long it had gotten and it’s completely skippable.)
2b. There’s a surprisingly large number of child-friendly items and merch available for some Not Child Friendly media. With some things, you can get official action figures or plushes or other toys of the characters, even if those toys weren’t made for children (it’s still a type of thing that Actual Children use). Mainstream example: a lot of people think Star Wars isn’t suitable for children (or younger children anyway), but loads of Star Wars merchandise aimed at Actual Children exists. Some of the things that exist for Not Child Friendly media, while not aimed for kids directly, are still cute and therefore something a child might like (example: any time someone requests something relating to an anime, I usually find cute keychains and stuff depicting the characters, because those are a thing apparently. You can get cute anime characters on practically anything, it seems, even if the anime is Not Child Friendly but the type of item is.) And a lot of people (on Etsy or Redbubble or stuff, two sites I use a lot) create things relating to Not Child Friendly media that are still appealing to children (e.g. cute or cool posters/stickers/plushes/clay models/etc. of characters from things that aren’t considered child-friendly media). So that’s basically how it’s possible to make posts about media that isn’t suitable for kids but that contains items that would be suitable for Actual Kids.
I didn’t read your message as at all mean, it was honestly a good question that I imagine at least some other people were wondering as well. It’s less that this blog is 100% child-friendly for Actual Children PER SE but more that it’s geared towards those who are physically teenagers or adults but experience childhood nonetheless in some way, whatever that looks like for them.
Also I rly hope you ddn’t take the length of the responses to mean that I was upset and lecturing you or aything, because I wasn’t. I just get Really Really Really Wordy whenever I try to explain something that has more than a few sentences’ worth of a short answer and that I can give some examples to explain. Hope this explains it all!
