#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Monsters Unleashed#Monsters Unleashed vol. 1#Monsters Unleashed 1973#Man-Thing#Ted Sallis#don’t mind me just weeping a little at the idea that the measure of one’s humanity is one’s propensity#for caring for others and particularly the other who would be dismissed or derided by greater society#which (if you’ll forgive me I’m about to get a bit meta textual here) Ted surpasses his own author in doing here#there are just several moments where Gerber dismisses the female character (who is a young teen) as «merely» hysterical#despite also establishing that she has a threatening domineering father#not to mention that he ultimately ends up fridging her that just….really rankles…straight up rubs me the wrong way#Gerber where ever you are I am by no means a professional story teller but I am criticizing your work and saying#that you should have let the girl live and be happy with her friend the Man-Thing#would that dismantle the whole point of the story? mayhaps but that is a price this amateur is willing to pay
