since i'm thinking about the bbc miniseries today i gotta ask: what the FUCK was that final shot in the last episode?? while watching i literally said "what the fuck?! what the fuck was THAT supposed to mean?!?" aloud as the credits rolled bc i was that baffled. i would have understood closing on the candlesticks, symbolizing redemption, or the sky, symbolizing freedom and new beginnings, but the two street kids begging for food????? that is SUCH a cynical last shot, like it's saying "yeah despite the struggle to get to the happy ending for marius and cosette and jean dying content, children are still starving in the streets. nothing changes. nothing matters :))" fucka YOU andrew davies!!!!!

#len speaks #les mis #bbc les mis #anyways this is why i really hate the miniseries the more i sit with it. it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth ESP bc of the final shot #opening and closing shots are SO important that even the 2012 movie got it right bc it understood how vital they are #les mis 2018 #this is an andrew davies hate blog btw :^) i think he's a hack #i'm tempted to read the script for the final episode just to see the description of that final shot in hopes of divining a meaing but that #would mean engaging with davies' writing again and. i don't know if i'm strong enough for that
