when season 12 rolls around we are at the point in Jay's development where he is CONFIDENT in who he is. He's a fun-loving jokester with the power of lightning and the drive to help people whenever he can. He uses jokes and humor to help alleviate tension and get people through whatever's happening. And when on his own what does he do?

BECOME AN ENTERTAINER BABEY

i like to think jay's club in prime empire was a safe haven for anyone stuck in the game who figured out hey. we Can't Leave and felt freaked about it. Also Jay would generally try and spread the word that hey something ISN'T RIGHT HERE which would lead people to want to stay with him

THIS SOMEHOW TURNED INTO PRIME EMPIRE INFODUMPING LMAO ANYWAYS Jay's confident! He becomes an entertainer because it's who he knows he is! And it's something that will get people hyped and having fun, which is very in-character for Jay to do! He uses those kinds of things to mask the Bad Things going on and get people remembering what's good

I've talked about this sort of thing before but that's Jay's whole philosophy as early as season 9! Which is a DIRECT contrast to how he views it in season 6, as Nadakhan puts it scarily accurately

"You make jokes to mask the fact that you're afraid"

(i was gonna grab a screenshot for that like i did with the hunted scene but netflix has bloCKED THE ABILITY TO TAKE SCREENSHOTS THE WAY I USED TO and i don't have them already and i'm too lazy to grab them from elsewhere so alas trust me he says it)

making jokes to hide your fear and using humor to remind yourself of what's good and coping with the bad are two VERY different outlooks on it

so I think this outlook is what drives him to make this glamrock persona in the first place - this is a bad situation, one he's in with other civilians, and what better way to keep him and themself safe until the others get there than throwing a big performance at a safe place!

also it's just so gender okay I want to look like Superstar Rockin' Jay so badly

it's also interesting to see his outlook on his parents change over time! In season six he finds out Ed and Edna aren't his birth parents and feels upset about it, not understanding why his birth parents would've abandoned him. In season twelve, that outlook changing is EXACTLY why Jay's able to get through to Unagami

"I was abandoned by my parents, too!... I never understood why, and I never had the chance to even ask. But I always hoped there was a good reason. What if there's a reason?"

(again curse you netflix i wanted SCREENSHOTS whatever whatever)

It's this scene that gets Unagami to calm down long enough for Milton Dyer to get there, and presumably is what stops him from just. Flattening him and Jay like a pancake.

to piggyback off of this i absolutely adore how Unagami and Jay consider each other adopted brothers in that one book I still haven't read and I hope he's in Dragons Rising at some point Unagami is my favorite "villain" (no longer a villain) in the whole show he deserves more screentime

like yea the first episode with Ed and Edna in it has Jay avoiding them like the plague but this gets explained very easily when you remember he was bullied for his home life before he became a ninja. It makes a lot more sense why he wouldn't want them around his new friends, assuming they'd react the same way. Also how was he supposed to know literally all the rest of the groups parents were either dead, presumed dead, or had a toxic relationship with their kid lmao

(Cole calling his mom kills me. Cole's mom is dead. I know they probably just didn't think that far ahead when writing the dialogue but it's so funny mans pretended to call his dead mom to get on Jay for not appreciating his parents iconic behavior)

anyways literally every episode Ed and Edna are central to (except like the one in skybound) Jay stops at nothing to protect his parents and it means the absolute world to me he's so much like them!! They raised an inventive little nerd and he will stop at nothing to make sure they're safe and it's. It's SO IMPORTANT TO ME OKAY

burnout season features olympic figure skater!reader x kaiser, except the two of you know each other due to the fact that you're both seeing the same physical therapist. i have a few posts alluding to this concept/fic but those were made before i settled on having it abt kaiser hehe. the fic explores the idea of two athletes who have dedicated their whole lives to their respective sports, and when it comes to recovering from a potentially career injury that forces them to take a break from training or else they risk never being able to participate/compete in their sport again, they're left with a lot of time to sit down and just wonder who tf they really are outside of their sport. you're very tough on yourself; nothing is good enough for you. you break a record? you aim to crush that record you just set. you're never satisfied, and you're constantly training and devoting your whole life in pursuit of becoming the best. your injury got to the point it's at due to the fact that you never know when to quit. kaiser's in a bit of the same boat, although when we explore his reasons, i think it's more because soccer for him was his lifeline, his chance at doing the impossible and "making it out", so to speak. so this sport isn't just his life, it quite possibly saved his life. and now he's at a point where he might not even be able to play anymore.

so, the two of you are not only going through it, but you also have abrasive personalities that make it difficult for others to deal with y'all. kaiser is... kaiser. and you're so used to working yourself to the bone, never prioritizing friendships, always focused on training and perfecting your routine, that when you finally have free time, you realize you're all alone.

it is a deeper fic!!! i always am curious at exploring how people will react when the one thing that defines them (for kaiser, soccer; for you, figure skating) suddenly isn't yours anymore. so what's left?? where do you go from here??

the two of you antagonize each other because again, u both have social issues LMAO, but your therapist plays wing woman and suggests that the two of you might like going through your physical therapy sessions together, to "motivate" and "encourage" each other. you two just like to compete.

despite coming from different backgrounds (you've got rich parents and have spent your whole life with private coaches flown in from russia to help train you vs kaiser... being kaiser), no one quite understands the two of you better than each other. it's so special to me because kaiser realizes that you love him for him; not soccer star kaiser, but the wakes-up-in-a-bad-mood/beaten-up-little-boy kaiser. the real kaiser.

and when i was shipwrecked (i thought of you) is this concept haha!!! bit of a diff dynamic since we see a much softer reader in this fic, but also!!! kaiser is in the position where he's the one who can help you out instead of what it was like during his childhood, so exploring that is gonna be so much fun too!!!!! no matter the fic, kaiser isn't outwardly ooey-gooey dripping with affection, but his actions and how he treats you says a lot more than his words 🤭

This lil guy is a pure fire type! It's one of the many starter Pokemon, specifically for sword and shield which iiiiis gen 8!

Now the main reason I chose this guy is because it's. One of the more recognizable bunny pokemon out there and the other two I could remember were Buneary (fun fact! This guy FUCKING HATES PEOPLE! Once you catch it starts with a base 0 happiness! That's only heard of in legendaries!!... This is hilarious bc it evolves through friendship. Anyway), Azumarill, and Bunnelby, which,, simply did not feel fitting lmao

So!! Scorbunny is known for being very active iirc!! Its fighting style is inspired by sports n shit it's very neat. Its whole evolution line is very sporty actually! I think it's fighting style is inspired by soccer? I don't really remember tbh it's been years since we've played Sword and Shield HDDHSHDHDJD

Mondstadt is everyone's home but my fave region/s is Sumeru & Fontaine. I was hyped abt these regions since the patch I started the game (which was Kazuha's first run) and both locations did not disappoint. Sumeru's cast is just so lovely, I don't think there was a single miss. Idk why, but Sumeru people just give me vibes that they're the type of people I'd meet irl. There's just something so "yeah I know people like them" when I see Dehya, Candace, Nilou, Kaveh, Faruzan, etc. If Mondstadt feels like home, Sumeru's people feels like the people you share a meal with inside said home. I think the only thing I was disappointed about was how the dendro archon isn't a male. I was so hyped about playable!Su from Honkai and when we got Alhaitham my dreams were CRUSHED

Haven't explored most of Fontaine yet but the roster already has some of my fave Eng VAs so... 👉👈. I mean, c'mon. Ray Chase? JOE ZIEJA??? Y'all are killing me here. And Furina's VA is sooooo good too. Ngl, I thought a huge chunk of Fontaine would have a heavy dystopian steampunk but the "poverty" side feels a little more brighter than expected but that's acceptable since Navia exists <333 fontaine is so beautiful, I wanna see how Snezhnaya would do their aesthetics too.

yeah zira definitely doesn't want to go back to heaven but it's also hard to break cycles esp when u have followed them for 6000+ years (as we evidently see in the confession scene, WHICH WAS WILD but I'll get to that later lmao) and as u already mentioned he feels indebted to heaven and all i mean to say is.... i get it, damn.

also, I think timing has SO MUCH to do with the scene and maybe it's just the side of the fandom I'm on or smth but there is a significant lack in the amount of ppl talking abt the clock in the "no nightingales" scene like WDYMMMM "I don't hear anything" DO U NOT HEAR THE BASTARD CLOCK?? excuse my swearing but yeah. yeahhh the fandom seems to think that crowley will just LEAVE aziraphale to be. back in heaven. but unless the characterisation of crowley changes in the time it takes for S3 to be written, produced, edited and released; crowley is definitely pulling a "saving me makes him so happy" HIS FIRST PRIORITY HAS BEEN 'MAKE SURE AZIRAPHALE IS OKAY' for so soooo long that No Way he won't take the first opportunity to make sure zira isn't being chained in heaven's (maybe metaphorical) cells.

and there's also so much to explore abt the book of life that I can't even begin to explain the possibilities of. like it's such a broad concept only bc the show has just sort of... thrown the book around this season, there is nothing we can say for sure abt how it behaves in the context of the show apart from maybe "u won't just be erased from existence, u will never have existed" and that is what the fandom has highlighted in big bright neon yellow ink and it makes me wonder how far the show is willing to take this, ITS SO IMPORTANT AND WERE JUST LEFT GUESSING AS TO HOW. AHHH.

and back to the confession. AZIRAPHALE KNOWSS. or I think he knows Some of it. he has a brief understanding of what will happen and how to shape it into something that will present the best outcome (i.e. an outcome that doesn't result in him and crowley + the rest of humanity to be turned into heaven/hell's playthings and tossed in the big, dark -hopefully metaphorical- pit). he knows this bc he knows crowley better than anyone and he knows heaven (or again, has a brief understanding) better than many angels. he does something he's been doing for millennia; he goes with heaven, he goes to the already set 'i forgive u' he thinks this will be like any other disagreement they have ever had, that he will resort to saying smth that crowley cannot POSSIBLY counter and crowley will storm off and he will be safe. but NOO bc this is the ONE TIME crowley BEGS he tries everything he confesses and aziraphale has to go into the waters with Crowley, and do what he expects heaven would want, what he expects Crowley would never do, something that will SURELY work. he begs him to come "to HEAVEN........ as ANGELS.... TOGETHER!!!" we can be together!!! BUT IDK MAN NEITHER OF U SEEM PRETTY KEEN TO GO. so now crowley is gone, he's safe and zira can go with heaven. yayy, he'll have protected the one being that matters to him more than anything else, until heaven/hell ends all life on earth!!

any way people have interpreted the scene, in my opinion, is right but also wrong bc yeah like u said, nobody but the writers really 'understand' aziraphale.

on the split end screen, how likely do u think it is that it implies a body swap??? honestly the idea didn't occur to me until the fandom suggested it bc i had always assumed the body swap was a one-time thing but i do think it's entirely possible!!

wait okay so I def have been hearing & absorbing criticism from other Latines & Latin American ppl about Encanto bc imo it was still very nice, aesthetically beautiful, and better than I was expecting from Disney, but yeah, white writers & directors & producers, obvs Lin has only written 1.5 musicals in his life and keeps remixing them for everything else he's hired for (Encanto is just surprising bc it's one of his most successful executions, I think he def detracted from & held back Moana's potential a LOT), and as soon as they announced Encanto my first thought was, "were no Colombian songwriters available?" bc besides him being under contract... VERY weird that he is the one size fits all "It Boy™️" for white Hollywood's take on Latin rep rn

which is to say: I am open to less than glowing reviews of it!

HOWEVER, I saw a FB post on my feed from somebody complaining abt not liking the story or songs, but being like, "I loved seeing representation for all my AfroLatinx friends & family, though!" and it irked the shit out of me, and I couldn't place why... girl... I just remembered lmao.

first of all, no she's not Hispanic, so yes that was irritating, idk that she has any Latino family in the first place. secondly, yes she adored Hamilton.

thirdly... THIRDLY. I tend to forget she did this because it was in fucking sane & completely out of left field. she's the one who asked me both to brainstorm a "nonappropriative way" to do a Día de Muertos taco themed birthday party for one of her now-ex friends... and no I am not Mexican... and no it did not occur to her to just serve tacos without doing an ethnic "theme" complete w Party City type decor & costumes. and also asked me to translate a list of chores for that same ex-friend's new maid into Spanish bc she hired someone who didn't speak English (likely to be exploitatively cheap!) and did not herself speak Spanish... which is an INSANE ASK OFF TOP, RIGHT. but Y'ALL. to this day she has yet to hear me ever speak Spanish in front of her!!! she has never heard ANYBODY in my family speak Spanish!!! she assumed I spoke Spanish, was fluent, was open to that crazy fucking request, and that I SPECIFICALLY would have strong vocab skills in fucking cleaning products & bullying minimum wage employees.

I've talked about that incident on here before tbh just because every time I remember it it pisses me off AND bewilders me bc she would rightfully be fucking offended if I said, "oh we're doing a costumed sushi, samurai & Shinto funeral themed party lol" or "oh you definitely know how to say 'scrub the shit out from under the rim of the toilet & wash my dirty panties on 'sanitize' mode, oh also you get one unpaid 15min break' in Japanese, right?" ...and bc she's Black this weird ass fucking behavioral issue of hers is also not sth that came up in Black cultural discussions, bc of COURSE that racism is not directed towards herself or the aspects of MY identity that WE have in common. but when your baseline interactions are not fucked up in that specific way (until they suddenly are), it feels really weird to get the "nice" liberal "progressive" version of being called a fucking wetback by someone you considered a friend.

and anyway yeah she don't like Encanto but she's claiming all the Black rep + not a peep on the Indigenous rep, political backdrop, narratives of trauma, the artistic context it functions within, etc (and to top it all off Yes: she graduated w a whole history degree, Yes: she literally used to work doing historical reenactments alongside Native reenactors + costumed conquistadors in one of the local Spanish cities, and Yes: she still has a job in the history & education field).

and yk, this is one of those things where as a post it started out about Encanto & the importance of #ownvoices creation AND intracommunity convos re: critique of our own cultural works outside of a white, colonial, and/or xenophobic gaze, plus, like... general things people do that piss me off lol. but the post is ending on this note instead:

in 2022 I need to get used to the idea of not only continuing to assert boundaries over how I'm treated going forward— because at my big age now, I would never let that shit fly again, but my whole life, I've endured a LOT of shitty one-sided friendships just because I didn't know I didn't HAVE to LET people treat me bad... and there was never any shortage of people who WOULDN'T have done that to me, but that internal weakness & vulnerability, like that lack of self respect + enforcing standards of that respect from others, both attracts people who like you not having strong boundaries, AND it mentally closes you off to being open to relationships that DON'T look that way, because you think it's normal to endure physical cruelty or being demeaned or being expected to demean YOURSELF to access or deserve love or companionship.

but I also need to get more & more accustomed to stepping on toes in a very big way in order to do it. like in a very permanent, soccer cleats to the instep kind of way. because it's EASY to do that with people you don't give a shit about. who have no power over you, or whose treatment you aren't numb to (tbh FB is mostly sth I use for family, so the fact that this is usually background noise should tell you she's not the only person I need to remove from my friends list lol) or who you aren't clinging to out of some unaddressed desperation, loneliness, or needing closure, hesitation to abandon invested time (sunk cost fallacy...) or just being too afraid to confront the fact that someone you'd never do that to treats you badly BECAUSE they think of you exactly as badly as they act.

but no matter what reason you have for not having done it sooner... it feels silly the first time you accept a small frivolous thing like a cartoon can be a catalyst... but even if the last fucking straw is something stupid, that camel's back ain't any less broken. so it's a hard life skill. but I accept that I need to put loyalty to MYSELF over unearned loyalty to others, especially if that loyalty was spat on, exploited, and abused. and that includes the process of getting comfortable with hurting people's feelings when you tell them no & walk away.

but YEAH whew it's surreal to process that the last nail in the coffin of resentment that this friendship is being buried in is a fairly mild post about a Disney cartoon, specifically because 1) I've spent a long time (on this website specifically, actually) learning how to outsmart my ADHD by verbalizing my anger in longform stream of consciousness until I remember what dots to connect, and it clicks— can't do that on Twitter, baby— and 2) because in the years I've known this person, I've done a lot of self-work on self-valuation (ironically: a narrative theme of Encanto), and that means the cartoon post SHOULD have bothered me BECAUSE not only is it a friendship I've outgrown, I am & always have been worth more than being treated like that. so now the next step is I just gotta get used to making that the other person's problem, because it's damn sure not mine.

As for names. I've been thinking a lot about names bc I'm writing pregnant Liv and I will eventually write coachverse so I've got a lot of babies to name. We have same frame of reference for what Elliot would choose - he went for classic, traditional names for his kids. Maureen, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Richard, Elliot Jr. Maybe that was Kathy's doing but I think Elliot wouldn't be inclined to pick anything too trendy. For Liv, I'm really just guessing. But.

I think for a girl they'd pick something soft and pretty. Sophia, Emma, Hannah, something like that. For a boy, I'm less sure. I always have a hard time with boy names. I love Noah. Maybe Lucas? if it's pre Lewis maybe William but definitely not if it's post. That's another thing, too, is there are so many names they can't use, bc they've encountered them in a negative context.
