Disabled transfem in need of help!

hey y'all, i had to leave my job back in January bc my mobility disabilities have been getting worse, making it impossible to do such physical labor, and my job couldn't accommodate me due to the nature of the work (janitorial). so, i'm in income limbo atm while i file for SSI,SSDI, and unemployment, and also try and search for remote work. to make matters worse, the one employed person in our household has had to stay home from work until she can get a doctor's note confirming that she's fit to return to work, and the soonest pcp appointment she was able to make isn't until a ways out. we have a lot of bills upcoming, so we desperately need some help!

how do u find a psychiatrist?? i have no idea what to do or who to speak to and I need one

sOrry i havent tried to answer messages in ages. but in response to this q, i think i went about getting a new one completely the wrong way! i’ve consistently struggled to see a psychiatrist on the NHS because they’ve refused to refer me to their mental health services for the past 3 years, so i’m v lucky in that my st*pd*d used to have medical insurance thru work that covered our whole family, and after he left my mum continued paying for me to be covered. so when i first saw a psych my parents sorted it out, but when i wanted a new one i just....asked my mum to get a list of psychiatrists the insurance company covers in my area. then i forgot abt it entirely for a couple months until i contacted a local mental health treatment clinic directly asking for a full psychiatric assessment. the two ppl i spoke to were really nice and helpful and all they asked for were a referral letter (i couldnt get it from my old psych because he was awol so i needed a GP referral from the NHS which was....an ordeal in itself but got sorted) and my insurance details. if u are using insurance to cover psychiatrist consultations you might have to call the insurance company and ask for your upcoming appointment to be preauthorised, so they know they’re expected to cover a bill they’re approved. so i did that and that’s it.....i don’t think it really makes a difference if you ask to be provided with a psychiatrist (e.g. insurance company sends you suitable recommendations or you ask your family doctor to refer you to psychiatrist) or you find one yourself and directly contact them. the most important thing is making sure you get someone who has experience in diagnosing and treating the things you are worried about (when i got reassessed i made sure i chose a clinic that treats bpd because i really wanted a professional opinion on my bpd traits, and i always need someone who can deal w eating disorders and substance abuse too). sorry my advice is totally based on uk system so im not sure how much help it will be!
