You stand in the back, unnoticed by everyone, as you lean against the wall and stare at Natasha.
She looks beautiful tonight. Well, she always looked beautiful, but you could tell that she had put extra effort into her appearance tonight. Natasha had taken hours to find the perfect dress and heels. She took hours curling her hair into loose curls and keeping them in place. You had watched her do her makeup delicately, choosing red lipstick because it made everything about her pop out.
Your eyes had scanned the room briefly. It was rather crowded as all of Tony's get-togethers are. You think it's kind of funny how easy it was for you to blend into the wall at the back.
You dressed up tonight, too, though you doubt anyone really noticed. Your hands rested behind you, crossed and trapped between the wall and your back. You had your knee bent as your foot rested at the angle against the wall.
You stare at Natasha, who's standing with Steve. People like them stand out, no matter how crowded the room is.
"Hey, loner."
You look over, startled to see Wanda slide up to you and join you by being a wallflower.
"Hey," you say softly, turning your head back. Wanda follows your gaze, quicker to catch at what you're staring at because it's not like you're being subtle.
She's speaking with Steve, and her hands are gripping the neck of her champagne glass tightly—a habit you know she does when she's nervous.
She's laughing at whatever Steve is saying, cheeks slightly pink. They look good together. The unabashed way you stare in their direction must make people think you're the other woman trying to come between them. If only they knew that the ring on your left hand had been a promise to you made by Natasha.
"Do you want to go grab a drink or dance?" Wanda asks because it just fucking kills her to see you standing here, staring at Natasha and breaking your own heart.
"No, it's okay," you answer softly, unable to rip your gaze away.
You should look away.
But it's like a sickness you can't stop. You can't stop staring at how Natasha's body is open to Steve, how he's leaning closer to her. Steve's hands are jammed deep into his pocket, a boyish shyness to him and a charming smile directed right at Natasha.
Things had changed since the two of them had been on the run together. You stayed because someone had to help them from the inside. Now you sorely regret not going on the run with them too. Would it have been different if you had?
Would you be the one standing with Natasha, flushed from flirting and the champagne as you stood a little too close?
It's hard to say since things have been different for so long now. You're suddenly hyperaware of how stupid you must be for hanging on as long as you have.
"C'mon," Wanda says as she grabs your arm to pull you towards them. You feel your stomach drop, anxiousness creeping up at the thought of approaching your own wife.
They don't seem to notice you and Wanda coming closer, and that feels worse.
"Hey, guys," Wanda butts in, her tone rather terse.
The two of them turn, almost surprised to be caught off-guard.
"Hey," Natasha says warmly as she smiles at you and kisses you on the cheek.
You want to feel happy for the gesture of affection, but you just feel empty. But you play the part of the loving wife with nothing wrong.
"Hi, babe," you smile lightly at her back before she turns back to Steve, and they jump back into whatever conversation they were in before you interrupted.
There should be some comfort in the fact that Natasha has her arm loosely around your waist, but there isn't. You stand there, lost. Listening half-heartedly to their conversation, you realize quickly it isn't anything you can contribute to.
You're just—there.
Your skin feels itchy. You feel like you're not even in your own body.
Look away. Look. Away.
You feel something clawing at your throat, desperate to say something. Desperate to make yourself noticed.
Before you can say anything, there's a sudden commotion. Some young business associate had drunk way too much as he started stumbling about. He bumped into a nearby waiter, sending the man toppling over, his tray of champagnes falling everywhere.
Your body tenses as its first reaction, and you suddenly feel splashes of cold liquid hit you all over. The moment is over quickly as you stand there with wide eyes.
There's champagne all over you. It's in your hair and drenched your front. You can faintly taste it on your lips, and you feel—sticky.
But none of that mattered.
None of that mattered because you see Wanda, Natasha, and Steve looking at you, shocked when you look up.
Your waist was cold, and it was cold because Natasha and Steve stood a little further away than they were before.
The realization of what happened makes you feel colder than the champagne you're drenched in.
Natasha had dropped her hand around your waist and had moved to push Steve out of the way.
Your wife's instinct was to save Steve.
That desperation in your throat morphed into rawness, and your eyes sting.
"Oh, god, honey," Natasha instantly started to say as she moved to you. "Are you okay? Let me—"
"I got it," Wanda cut in harshly, and you look over for the first time.
Part of Wanda's hand is wet, with droplets of champagne on her clothes and hair.
The second realization had you stifling a choked sob.
Wanda had tried to move you out of the way. Your wife's first thought wasn't you.
Natasha frowned. "No, I can—"
"You're a little busy, aren't you?" Wanda sniped, and Natasha is taken back by the tone. She frowned, opening her mouth to say something when you cut in.
"It's fine," you croaked, forcing your mouth to smile, even if your lips are trembling. "Wanda and I are the only ones who got it. We can go clean up. You should stay here."
Natasha seemed to stare at you, pensive, before she nodded, and it cracked your chest open a little more.
She used to never accept so easily.
Natasha turned to Wanda warily, who turned away and acted like she was grumpy from having champagne spilled on her.
You give Natasha one last reassuring smile that she returns before she turns back to Steve. He looked at you curiously, as if to ask if you were okay and you wanted to scream at him—scream and tell him to find his own woman.
But you let Wanda lead you away.
The commotion easily faded away, and people resume back like nothing happened—like your ribs hadn't been cracked open for everyone to see the final shatter of your heart.
You can't help but look back. See? It was a sickness.
Natasha had said multiple times that you had nothing to worry about, that she loved you. She told you Steve was just a friend.
But as you look at how Natasha shifts from foot to foot, a twinkle in her eye, you can't help but think—friends don't look at friends that way.

I’ll prove you wrong
Pairing: Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Word count: ~5.7k
Warnings: lying, fluff, it’s kinda funny if you ask me
Summary: You take a liking to the newest Avenger, but your other teammates aren’t going to make things easy for you… and neither is she.
Author’s note: This is highly inspired by that one Big Time Rush episode. Enjoy!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @yourtaletotell enjoy your day bonita <3
“My oh my, who’s that?”
“Why? Someone’s got a new crush?” Nat teased as your eyes followed the group of people who just entered the compound.
You recognized most of them, being SHIELD agents you’ve worked with before, except for two people.
“That is Pietro,” Steve explained, gesturing towards the boy, “he was experimented on by Hydra an-”
“Steve, Steve, Steve,” you interrupted the man, “don't get me wrong, he’s cute and all, but who is… she?”
The brunette caught your attention almost immediately. She was stunning, with her dark brown hair flowing down her shoulders, long black socks that came up to her knees, and the black eyeliner making the green of her eyes pop, even from a distance.
If someone said she was walking in slow motion, you wouldn’t have doubted them. It was like a scene right out from a movie. The confidence with which she moved, the power she exuded, you were in a trance.
“That’s Wanda, she’s… dangerous,” Nat warned.
“Dangerously beautiful,” you added.
A hand hit the back of your head, breaking your staring.
“Ouch, what was that for?” You dramatically soothed the area of impact, although it didn’t really hurt.
“I’m serious,” the woman’s tone changed, “she can mess with your mind.”
“Oh, don’t worry, she already is.” You added playfully, earning an eye roll from Nat.
Unfortunately that little distraction made you lose sight of the girl. Your eyes scanned the foyer, but the group had already disappeared inside the building. You cursed yourself for slipping and turned towards the door. Whoever she was, you had to talk to her.
“Oh great, here we go again.”
“Going where Cap?” You played dumb before running inside.
It wasn’t news to anyone that you had a flirtatious nature. A really blunt flirtatious nature. Not one to hide your attraction towards someone else, or what the team called ‘a lack of filter’, it was common for you to slip compliments, or simply dirty remarks, on the most inappropriate of times.
When you first joined the team it became almost a hobby of yours. Since most of them didn’t have much going on in their romantic lives, it was a shock to have someone like you around. You certainly didn’t make it any easier, since instead of starting with subtle comments, you hit Steve first with a “Looking good Steve, I bet those muscles come in handy in bed” once he joined everyone for lunch after a morning workout. The reactions were priceless, filled with fake, and some not so fake, coughs and wide eyes.
After that episode, those remarks became routine, and you got the best responses. Your favourite being the one time Natasha fell off of the training ring when you said something about enjoying being wrapped around her legs.
As time passed they got used to it, sometimes they even tried to turn the tables on you. The reactions weren’t as natural and dramatic anymore, but you still enjoyed messing with them. However, new meat was your favourite to tease, specially the ones who look like they could put up a fight. And that girl, with all that confidence and power she exuded only by walking, scaring even THE Natasha Romanoff,… she could put up a fight.
Oh, you didn’t know just how right you were.
For the rest of the afternoon you didn’t get the chance to talk to Wanda. Every time you asked, Tony came at you with some bureaucratic answer you weren’t interested in hearing or Steve would blame SHIELD for holding her at some meeting.
You were very well aware that those were just fake excuses to keep you away from her, if it was for her sake or your own, you didn’t know. The questioning became more of an amusement since it seemed to bother everyone so much rather than an actual need to learn about the girl. She was joining the team after all, you’d have to talk to her at some point and they couldn’t stop it.
As of right now, your teammates were practically babysitting you. At least one of them had to have their eyes on you at any given time, and it was starting to piss you off. So, when you saw a chance to sneak past them, the sun almost set outside, you didn't hesitate in doing it.
Luck kept you from bumping into anyone on your way, even though you had no intention of doing anything other than going to your room and watching a movie. Of course, you were excited about that new Wanda girl, but you weren’t obsessing about her yet. You’ve never even exchanged words, those guys were just making too much of a fuss out of it. Plus, it seemed like she could take care of herself.
Destiny seemed to be playing a wicked game when you, while walking past several of your fellow friend’s rooms, came across a particularly interesting one. The room across from your own actually.
That door hadn’t been unlocked since you joined the team, you and Peter sometimes theorized it might contain some secret weapon Stark had to store somewhere, or maybe some icky insects Banner would study. And now, it was wide open.
The lack of weapons or cockroaches was rather disappointing, but the sight inside totally made up for it.
There she was.
She looked softer than you had expected. The sunlight came in from the widow as she was sitting in the middle of a mostly empty room, looking through one of the only two boxes in sight.
You leaned on the doorframe and quietly watched her for a few seconds before breaking the silence.
“I used to love studying Greek Mythology when I was younger,” the suddenness of your words startled her, causing her to jump up, “but I feel like I might’ve missed a class or two, ‘cause I don’t remember seeing any Goddess of beauty, and yet there’s one standing right in front of me.”
Your words caused an effect on her, but it most certainly was not what you expected. You had anticipated some flirting, a snarky comeback, maybe even an eye roll, you were prepared to deal with those. On the other hand, you weren’t prepared to deal with the shy and, you’d risk saying, flustered girl before you.
Her gaze fell to the ground, and you noticed a small smile appearing on her lips and her cheeks reddening before her face was covered by her hair. The way she started to fidget with the rings on her fingers didn’t go unnoticed by you.
“Aphrodite,” she mumbled, just loud enough for you to hear.
“Sorry?”
“Aphrodite was… the Goddess of beauty,” her eyes were still trained down.
“My bad,” you tried to get her to look at you, “I guess her beauty just doesn’t compare.”
Deciding you had made the impression you wanted, you left without another word, you’d have time to properly introduce yourself later.
You had barely walked into your closet when your attention was caught by your door being flung open. An exasperated Nat was standing in the middle of the room. Once her eyes fell on you, she let out a sigh of relief.
“Oh you’re here,” her expression turned inquisitive, “what did you do?”
“Uhm… I came to my room,” you played dumb, “then I walked into my closet-”
“Nothing inappropriate?”
“Nope,” if she were to get the answer she wanted she’d have to ask better questions, after all, this wasn’t a lie, but it also hid your interaction with the new brunette quite well.
“Okay, good.”
“I was about to take a shower though,” you spoke up when she showed no intent of leaving, “do you want to join me since you can’t take your eyes off of me?” You teased earning a glare from the woman.
Scared of what she would do if you pissed her off any further, you stepped into the bathroom.
You met Pietro the next morning.
Quietly sipping from the mug you had in hands while in the surprisingly empty kitchen, you saw the boy walk by, seemingly lost, and decided to play a little.
“Well, it seems like you’ve got some good DNA running in your family, don’t ya?” It took him a few seconds to process your words, the grin you had only growing.
Once he pushed the sleep aside, a smirk appeared on his lips, leaving you slightly startled. You had expected from him the same reaction you’d gotten from her the day before.
“If you like what you see, then maybe you could tell me your name so I can ask you out on a date, I assure you you’ll be completely swoon by the end of the night.” His statement didn’t faze you, not how he wished it had.
Nonetheless you took the opportunity to introduce yourself, and he did the same.
“As for the date, I hate to tell you, pretty boy, but you’re not my type.” His confidence clearly wasn’t bothered, but he did seem curious.
“If it’s not me, then who is it?” He raised an eyebrow challengingly.
At that exact moment your eyes caught Wanda approaching the kitchen, she wasn’t close enough to listen to the conversation, but she could still see you staring.
“She is,” you signed with a tilt of your head in her direction.
Pietro hastily turned, and, when his eyes fell back on you, a mischievous grin took place on his lips.
“I see, oh sister,” he called loudly, stretching the vows and catching the girl’s attention, “it seems like you have a secret admirer.” It was a cute attempt at embarrassing you for turning him down earlier.
“Who, Y/N?” Tony, who had just walked through the kitchen doors, joined in, not giving Wanda any time to respond. “Don’t be so surprised, she not-so-secretly admires every human that breathes.”
Pietro’s smile faltered slightly.
“Not all humans, just the ones who are worth it,” you turned to the shy girl still standing on the doorway, “and she’s definitely worth it.”
“Yes, yes Romeo,” the man teased, rolling his eyes, “now c’mon, I need some help with the new security system,” he urged you, already leaving the kitchen and you didn’t waste any time in following him.
“I’m Y/N, by the way,” you said as you passed Wanda, who hadn’t moved from her spot.
You followed Tony through the compound, your thoughts wandering about the unexpectedly shy nature Wanda had, and how it didn’t match the way the others seemed wary about her. You took a mental note of asking them about the comment Nat had made about her being able to get into your mind.
“What do you need, Goatee?” You spoke up once you reached his lab.
“Say what you will about it, but it does look good,” he said, admiring his own reflection on one of his suits before turning back to you, “alright, I’ve spent the last few days installing the new system now I just need it to be tested, so… do your thing,” he said gesturing towards the main computer.
You stood before it, leading your hands to lay over the keyboard. In an instant you could feel as your whole body connected to all the technological devices that were linked to the compound, your eyes shining a faint blue color. The connection your powers gave you to technology was amazing, you could sense every working machine in the area, you could even access electronics with wireless connections.
As your brain processed the flood of information, you tried to focus solely on the new system Tony wanted you to check for him. Despite you being able to access it, someone without your powers shouldn’t, and you had to make sure that was true.
Everything seemed to check out, except for a specific camera in the kitchen. It would be a lie if you said you didn’t give that one special attention since it gave you a perfect image of Wanda, because that’s exactly what you did. Good thing you did it, since it enabled you to catch some faltering in the power source every time someone used the microwave.
You took your hands from the keyboard, letting your brain focus back on your present location.
“The kitchen camera,” you told the man, “something with the microwave happened only for a split second but it’s worth checking out.”
“Anything else?”
“Nope, it’s really good by the way.”
He nodded, taking a small note of your feedback. You stood there in silence as his eyes fell back on you, analyzing you, your body language, whilst in deep thought. It wasn’t uncomfortable, per se, but it was unusual.
“Can I go?” You asked, trying to break him off of his trance, it didn’t quite work.
“There’s something different about you,” it wasn’t a question, which confused you.
“Different how?”
“I don’t know,” he pondered his next words, “when you flirted with Wanda earlier you weren’t dirty or inappropriate.” You quirked an eyebrow at him.
“And…?”
“I don’t know, it was just… unlike you.” You laughed at his words. “You did it yesterday too.” That piqued your interest.
“What?”
“I was programming some of the cameras and I saw you talking to her.”
“Okay…,” his confession didn’t make you embarrassed from being caught, just confused by the way he was interpreting it.
“I’m sorry, don’t mind me, you can go now.”
Not wanting to prolong the conversation, you left without another word.
Throughout the next few days, Wanda grew accustomed to your constant flirting, slowly losing that shy nature from when you first met.
“You two are getting close,” you felt the cushion dip beside you on the couch, and turned to find Sam making himself comfortable to watch the movie playing on the TV.
Wanda had just left the room, causing you to grow suspicious of his sudden appearance.
“Me and Wanda?” He nodded. “That’s good isn’t it? I mean, she does live here after all, it’d be weird if we didn’t.” You mocked.
“Yeah, well, you aren’t a particularly easy person to get close to,” he shot back.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Your whole attention now on the man.
“You seem to lack some filters, which tends to surprise people that don’t know you,” his words didn’t affect you, he wasn’t wrong after all, and you never meant any harm so it was up to those people to learn how to deal with you on their own.
“It’s not like this is all news to her, she’s been here for a while now.”
“And you seem to have a particular interest in picking on her,” he teased.
“I have a particular interest in picking on everyone,” you argumented, not really sure where he was going with this.
“Whatever you say,” he shrugged it off, but you were now determined to get it out of him.
“Uh uh, we’re not dropping the subject, Stark did the same thing and this pisses me off, so explain.”
“You tease her twice as much as you do with the rest of us,” he started, “although the teasing is sweet rather than dirty. Also, ever since she arrived, you’ve been annoying the rest of us considerably less.”
“Are you saying you miss my teasing, Mr. rock-hard-abs?” You said playfully, as an attempt to disguise how his words had made you rethink your actions from the past couple of days.
“Of course, out of everything I said, that’s what you get,” he said, rolling his eyes and causing you both to laugh.
As the laughter died down you both fell into a comfortable silence, your mind retracing every memory you had from ever since Wanda arrived, trying to figure a pattern on the change in your behaviour. Sam’s voice ended up breaking you out of the searching.
“I think you like her.” He simply stated.
“Of course I like her, she’s nice, the same way I like the rest of the team, everyone’ nice and-”
“No no no,” he interrupted, “I think you have feelings for her, real feelings.”
You weren’t able to stifle the laugh that erupted on your chest.
“Me? Having real feelings for her? C’mon Sam, look at her, she’s shy and delicate, she’s powerful and intimidating, she’s hot and cute, she’s basically everything, I couldn’t… me and…,” you trailed off, well aware that your argument was of no help to defend the fact that you did not like Wanda.
Sam had an amused expression on his face, watching intently as your confidence on the matter faltered.
“As I said before, whatever you say,” he didn’t give you time to ask more questions as he left the living room, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
You still made a whole lot of flirty comments, that hadn’t changed, but, in retrospect, they were, in fact, fairly focused on Wanda. It was indeed much more fun flirting with her than with the others, they were used to it already and she wasn’t, so her reactions were much more natural.
There was Pietro though. He was also new, and yet your comments were rarely towards him.
Hours of overthinking later, you came to a final conclusion, and went to look for Sam, he was the one who enlightened you after all.
“Sam,” you exclaimed, bursting into his room, “I hate to admit it… but I think… that… you were right,” you mumbled, barely over a whisper.
“Sorry, what was that?” The smirk in his face accused him, he understood you, he just wanted to tease a little.
“I like Wanda,” you let out in a more coherent tone this time.
The way you fiddled with the hem of your shirt piqued his interest. You were scared, and he wasn’t used to seeing you scared, at least not when it came to something romantic-related.
“Okay,” he sounded cautious, sitting up in his bed and giving you his full attention, “what are you going to do?”
“Should I ask her out?” To be fair, you didn’t usually ask people out, you were so blunt with your flirting that people ended up asking you out instead.
But none of those people had ever caught your eyes so quickly as Wanda did. None of them were ever able to keep you interested as long as Wanda had.
“Do you want to ask her out?”
“I don’t know, I do… but also I don’t? I don’t usually do this.” You admitted.
“You don’t usually ask people out?” He asked with disbelief. “But you’re always flirting with everyone and every time you go out you come back with someone different.”
“But I never date them, it is never something serious, no feelings involved.” You explained.
“Damn, you’ve got it bad.”
You didn’t know how to respond, so you just walked towards his bed letting your body fall on the mattress, a loud grunt leaving your mouth.
“Just… help me out, okay?”
“Look, I don’t know what to tell you,” he laid beside you, “there’s no secret to this whole dating thing, if you both want it then you’ll make it work together.”
“But how do I let her know that I want it?”
“Tell her. Ask her out for coffee or something.”
“How do I… do that?” He laughed loudly, earning himself a slap on the arm from you.
“Say ‘Hey Wanda, would you like to go out for coffee with me sometime?’”
You shot him a raised eyebrow, but his smile was nothing but encouraging.
“Okay,” you jumped out of bed, “thanks Sam!” You said, making your way out of the room.
“Make sure she knows it’s a date though.” You heard him scream as you practically ran down the corridor.
You stood before Wanda’s door, rehearsing what you would say once you were face to face with her. You gently knocked and proceeded to enter the room. She was laying on her bed, several fairy lights spread across the floor, along with all her belongings who used to occupy the now empty shelves.
“You look tired,” you said, warning her of your presence, “is it because you’ve been running through my mind all day?”
She turned her face away from you, but couldn’t hide the way her body relaxed slightly at the sound of your voice.
“I wanted to ask you something,” she must have picked up on your hesitation as she sat up and gave you her full attention. “Would you like to go out for coffee sometime?” It came out with much more confidence than what you actually felt.
She laughed lightly, thinking it was another one of your flirty jokes.
“I don’t even like coffee.”
“A date, Wanda,” you clarified, “I’m asking you out on a date.” That’s when she noticed you were being serious, her shoulders tensing up. “You can say no,” you reassured when you noticed her hesitation.
“I- uhh- I… can’t,” she answered, screwing her eyes shut.
“You… can’t?” You had expected her to say no because she doesn’t want to. Since that’s not the case, then what could possibly stop her?
“Yeah, I can’t because… I have a boyfriend.” She hesitated slightly, like she didn’t want you to know that.
“A boyfriend?”
“Yes, a boyfriend,” she had regained her confidence.
“You never mentioned him before.”
“You never asked.”
“Touché,” an uncomfortable silence settled between you two.
While you didn’t know what to say, Wanda seemed to have a thousand things going on in her head.
“We can still be friends,” she finally said.
“Are you implying we haven’t been friends this whole time?” You joked, pretending to be dramatically offended, as an attempt to lighten the mood. You knew it worked when her laughter reached your ears.
“Shut up.”
“Come and shut it.” The words left your mouth before you could process it.
“Boyfriend.” She warned.
“Right, sorry,” you walked towards her, sitting by her side on the bed, “I’ll still keep my invitation to go out for coffee, and I raise it to an invitation to go out for ice cream,” you looked at her expectantly, “and if you say you also don’t like ice cream consider this friendship ended.”
“I… don’t… like-,” you didn’t give her time to finish as you started to walk out of the room, being stopped by a pair of hands wrapping around your wrist, “wait, wait, I’m sorry, I like ice cream, I do.”
“Great, tomorrow afternoon then?”
“I’ve got training with Steve, but sure, I’ll try to sneak out earlier.”
“I’m flattered you’d do that for me.” You said making your way backwards towards the door.
“I’m doing it for the ice cream.”
“Sure.” You added as you turned around in the corridor, not giving her a chance to answer.
It hurt a little bit, but you took comfort in the fact that she might have given you a chance if she wasn’t with someone else. That thought lulled you to sleep.
You were hoping to avoid Sam and his questions at least for the day, but luck clearly wasn’t on your side.
“Making lunch?”
“Do I look like I can cook? Have I ever cooked for any of you before? Would you-”
“Okay, okay, I get, you’ve made your point.”
“Thank you.” You joked, turning to the pizza you were heating up in the microwave.
“You seem to be in a good mood,” he pointed out, “I assume everything worked fine yesterday?”
“We’re going out this afternoon.”
“See, I give awesome advice.” He gloated.
“She also has a boyfriend,” you added, “so… not that great advice.”
“I-,” he looked dumbfounded and you enjoyed every second of it, “she has a boyfriend?”
“She does.”
“Then why are you in such a good mood?”
“Because, if it wasn’t for her boyfriend, I’m confident she would’ve said yes to a date, and I guess that’s what counts.”
“Damn, you’re the only person who can find a good side to this.”
“It’s a talent,” you took a place on the kitchen table to eat your food.
After lunch you settled on the couch to watch a movie, being joined by Bucky and Bruce, while you waited for Wanda to finish training. It was highly effective to distract you for a while, Bucky’s jokes and Bruce’s complaints about scientific inaccuracies were sending you on an endless fit of laughter.
Unfortunately the moment was broken by Tony asking for your help. You followed him, once again, to the lab.
“You know what to do.” He simply said.
“Took you long enough.” It has been some time since you pointed out that simple problem in the security system, which should’ve taken him 20 minutes to solve, not several days.
“I thought of a new function I could add, so I had to take it all down and… you know how it is.”
“Of course,” you chuckled, turning your attention to the main computer, letting yourself be flooded by it.
Eyes shining a faint blue as you invaded every single electronic device in the premeses. There was audio as well in a few areas, it was different then last time and you assumed that’s the new function Tony had added. Why he needed to listen into your conversations was a question you had no idea how to answer, and, honestly, didn’t really want to.
Regardless you focused on the system’s weak spots, anything that would give a good enough hacker a breach to invade the compound. You gave special focus to the kitchen camera, waiting until someone used the microwave.
You saw Wanda and Pietro entering the kitchen. You were about to tell Tony everything was fine when a certain conversation piqued your interest.
“I can’t believe you said you have a boyfriend,” Pietro said as soon as they came into view.
“I panicked, okay?” She defended herself and he started to laugh loudly.
“How panicked do you have to be to tell the girl you like that you have a fake boyfriend?” She tried to slap him, but he managed to dodge it.
“I was scared, I didn’t know what to say.”
“But you like her, right?”
“Yes,” she admitted and your heart rate picked up the pace.
“Then why would you find an excuse to not go out with her?” It was like he took the words right out of your mouth.
“Because of everyone, they’re always saying that she is afraid of commitment, doesn’t do relationships, warning me she’ll break my heart and all-”
“Hey, breath,” he interrupted her rambling by putting his hands on her shoulders, “look, I’ve never been in a relationship, and neither have you, so my advice might not be worth much, but give this a try, learn with experience, and no matter what happens, I’m here for you.”
You let the image fade as you settled your senses back on Tony’s lab. You didn’t know how to feel; should you be mad at your friends for keeping her away from you?; should you be hopeful considering she does like you?
“So?” Tony’s voice interrupted you.
“Uhm, it’s-it’s fine, everything is working fine.” He gave you a knowing look, but decided not to dwell on whatever was going through his mind, which you were thankful for.
You made your way to the kitchen, thousands of questions occupying your thoughts, only to find that Pietro was no longer there.
“Hey,” Wanda looked at you as if she had seen a ghost.
“Hey? Just… hey?” You chuckled.
“Well, you have a boyfriend, and I’m respecting your boundaries, so yes, just hey,” if you were to prove to her you could be good with relationships, then you had to get her to admit the fake boyfriend story, and you were going to enjoy every second of it.
“Right,” you relished on how disappointed she sounded.
“Shall we go then?”
“Yes, absolutely.”
You made sure to pay attention to every little action of yours, in an attempt to show Wanda you weren’t so bad with relationships as everyone has led her to believe. Was it opening the door for her, letting her choose the songs despite it being your car or paying for the ice cream, you did it all.
The only thing you didn’t do was flirt. It was hard to hold yourself back, especially when Wanda seemed to be making an extra effort to flirt with you, but you managed it. Her frustration every time you found a way around her compliments was so enjoyable.
“Here you go,” you said, handing the ice cream she ordered and sitting across from her.
“Thanks,” her eyes were studying you meticulously, “you’re different.”
“Different how?”
“The flirting, you stopped…”
“I told you, I’m respecting your boundaries,” you repeated what you had said earlier.
“Yeah, but you still flirt with Sam, and isn’t he and Bucky dating?” You stifled a laugh.
“I never asked him out, did I?”
“I guess.”
You could feel guilty for making her feel this way, blatantly throwing in her face how you’ve had a crush on her and never on everyone else, but you had to push her buttons until she admitted.
“So, this boyfriend of yours…,” you started the subject you were now eager to talk about, she, on the other hand, wasn’t as excited, “what’s his name?”
“Lucas.”
“Hmm, interesting, how did you guys meet?”
“He was the son of one of my parent’s friends.”
“Oh, so you go way back,” you said in fake surprise, “how long have you been together?”
“A year.”
“Long time, how’s he dealing with the long distance? Or at least I assume it’s long distance since you’ve been here for a few weeks and we have yet to meet this mystery guy.” You were practically challenging her and she didn’t let it go unnoticed.
“We’re working it out.” She started to get defensive.
“Good for you, so that-”
“What’s up with all this questioning?” She interrupted you, clearly annoyed, only causing you to grin wider.
“Oh, I don’t know, something seems off,” you looked her dead in the eyes, a playful grin on your lips, “like he’s not real or-”
“He’s real,” she interrupted again, her words coming out louder than usual.
As if on cue, her phone went off and she quickly excused herself to answer it.
Oh you were having so much fun with this. It still hurt a little that Wanda would be scared of being in a relationship with you due to rumors and gossip, but messing with her almost made up for it.
“Was it your fake boyfriend? Was he calling you to say that he loves you so much?” You mocked when she reached the table again.
“Actually, it was him,” oh, the lie, you couldn’t help but feel surprised, “and he called me to say he’s coming to town,” you were sure your eyes were wide at this point.
“I guess I’ll have a chance to meet him then,” you managed to say, now curious about how she’d find her way around this.
“I guess you will.”
“I’ll be able to see him, right? Just so I know if I should start training my acting skills to pretend he’s actually there,” Wanda rolled her eyes and tried to play it cool, but you could tell she was nervous as she played with the rings on her fingers and avoided your gaze.
For the next few days you teased Wanda relentlessly about her boyfriend, and him not being real, but you didn’t get the response you hoped. Instead of giving in and admitting to the lie, she only got more defensive about him.
You couldn’t wait for the day said “boyfriend” would come to visit, and you most definitely did not expect the events that followed it.
You were in the living room with Pietro watching a movie, Wanda had gone out to pick up her boyfriend at the airport. It was too much, if anyone asked you, she could’ve just told you the truth and saved herself the effort of going out and spending that time away just to get you off her track. You were, although, curious about what explanation she would give once she came back to the compound alone.
Except that she didn’t come back alone.
She was being followed by a tall boy, dark black hair, brown eyes, muscular. Jealousy pricked at you, despite your confusion as to the situation you found yourself in. You were sure Wanda didn’t have a boyfriend, you were sure she liked you, so who is he? And why is he here?
“Hi, you must be the boyfriend,” you approached them animatedly, raising your hand for him to shake.
“Yes, I’m Luke,” AHA, “and-” he was interrupted by Wanda’s hand hitting the back of his head.
She glared at him and she could’ve killed him then and there if she wanted to.
“Luka?” He sent the girl a questioning glance, you just couldn’t keep yourself from smirking.
“Lucas,” the both of you told him and he sent her an apologetic look, while she just seemed utterly annoyed.
“Right, sorry,” the poor boy mumbled.
“You’re the worst,” Wanda added.
“Okay so are we done with the boyfriend thing?” Pietro said before an uncomfortable silence settled between the three of you.
“Yes,” Wanda answered with irritation.
“Thank you sister,” he turned to the boy, “Victor, good to see you my man, how have you been?” They embraced each other in a hug while you and Wanda just stared at each other.
Pietro took notice.
“Maybe we should go,” he said to Victor, pulling him by his forearm and whispering a “good luck” when he passed by you.
You stood in silence, studying each other for a few seconds, before you broke contact and moved to sit back on the couch, leaving Wanda with a confused expression.
“Aren’t you gonna say anything?”
“You lied,” you simply stated.
“I did.”
“But you still like me.”
“I do.”
“And you lied because you don’t think I’d be good with relationships,” she looked surprised from being called out so bluntly.
“I-”
“Let me prove them wrong,” you said, stopping her from saying anything.
“Prove who wrong?” You got up from the couch and walked towards her.
“Everyone,” you placed a hand on her waist, “everyone that’s spreading these rumors.”
You searched her eyes for any hesitation, but found nothing. Her pulling you closer till your faces were inches from each other only encouraged you more.
“Go on a date with me.”
“Okay.”

Speeding
Word count: 906
Genre: fluff
Request: yes
Warnings: swearing, car accident
Summary: Maybe speeding isn't all bad...
A/N SPEEDING IS DEFO BAD - PLEASE DON'T DO IT!
You weren't speeding per se, but you definitely weren't going the speed limit. It wasn't completely your fault, you were running late for a team dinner back at the tower. You had been doing paperwork when you received a reminder from your phone that you were late for said dinner. Sure, you should have set a reminder for like 15 minutes before you needed to leave but you tended to ignore those.
There was a light mist of rain covering the road and the sun was beginning to set. You checked the time and sped up even more when you saw you were close to half an hour late. You asked your car to send a message to the group chat, telling them that there was traffic. You continued to cruise through the few cars on the road until you saw a deer jump out in front of you. Obviously you slammed the breaks on - you weren't about to kill Bambi. Your wheels span and swerved due to the wet road and spun you out into the other lane. Another car slammed into the boot of your car, causing you to spin again, throwing you into a ditch. You let out a groan when the car finally stopped moving, calling 911 and telling them all the relevant details. There was just one other group of people to call...
You dreaded the reaction you were about to receive when you hit call. The phone rang once before it was answered.
"Hey baby! could you tell the team I'm going to be late for dinner?" Sirens sounded in the background and you were eternally grateful you had called Natasha and not a super soldier or a witch who could probably read your mind through a phone.
"Why?"
"Oh! I was in a car crash." Before Natasha could complain (and you knew she would) you quickly told her "Well would you look at that the paramedics are here gotta go bye!" You hung up and turned your phone completely off.
You were cut out of your car and transported to the closest hospital, the paramedics having no doubt contacted Stark (who was annoyingly your emergency contact after a bet gone wrong).
~~~~~
It took Natasha and the team 20 minutes to get to the hospital that was 40 minutes away from the tower. You didn't really have any ground to stand on though considering you were in the hospital because of speeding.
"What in the hell Y/n." You were a pretty fearless person and you prided yourself on the fact neither Natasha, nor her scary Black Widow persona made you bat an eyelash however in that moment, you were shitting yourself.
You opened your mouth to explain, ignoring your other teammates plea's to just keep quiet but Natasha cut you off. "No. You sit and you listen." Natasha was deadly calm. It was terrifying. "How dare you. Why the hell were you driving so fast? Why were you not paying attention to the road? What the fuck is more important than driving safely!" Natasha may have started off with a quiet anger but the more she thought about how wrong things could have gone, the louder and louder she got.
You didn't want to admit it, but it was strangely hot seeing your teammate swear. "What do I do for a job?"
"I'm sorry?" Natasha didn't look sorry one bit.
"I said" You paused long enough to see Wanda shake her head furiously at you, a worried look in her eye as she knew what was about to unfold. "What. Do. I. Do?"
"What the fuck does that have to do with anything Y/n."
"Well considering I was in a similar bed a month ago for a gunshot wound, you'd think you'd calm down a little." That was obviously the wrong thing to say. "I constantly put my life at risk and this was a minor crash. I broke no bones, I'm not bleeding, dying, under someone else's control, so I see no reason as to why you're so antsy." You were frustrated and confused. You didn't understand the reaction you were being given. The only reason the hospital had called Tony was because you refused to turn your phone on to call a cab.
"Yes but I'm always there with you! I, to an extent, control what can and can't hurt you but a fucking deer in the road when it's wet and slippy causing you to crash because you're an idiot who drives too quickly I can't control!"
"Well I'm sorry I didn't want to be a Bambi killer!" Things were certainly getting heated and you saw a couple of your other teammates try to move towards the door.
"Well I don't love Bambi do I! I'm in love with you not a fictional deer!" Natasha shouted at you, her face nearly turning the shade of her hair.
"WELL I D- wait you love me?" You were fully prepared to defend Bambi and his mother but that topic could be revisited.
"I- Yes."
"Pay up grandpa." Tony extended his hand to Steve as the super soldier fished out a $50 note.
"I think I love you too..." You looked at Natasha, choosing to ignore the bet Tony had dragged some other poor soul into.
"How about we get out of here and go get some proper dinner. Just the two of us."
"Yeah. That sounds nice."
Deafening Silence
Summary: Steve and you are falling apart. Can you save your marriage?
Pairing: Nomad!Steve x fem!Reader
Characters: Bucky Barnes, Sharon Carter (mentioned), Tony Stark
Warnings: angst, language, unrequited love?, arguments, you and Steve go through a rough patch in your relationship, regrets, a hint of fluff, pissed reader, sadness
A/N: Not Endgame compliant. No one died, everyone is still alive and kicking.
Divider by @firefly-graphics
Another cold night awaits you. Once upon a time you and Steve were undefeatable and, to be honest, sickening in love. Now you lie on the edge of the bed, try to not get too close to your husband as he always finds an excuse to not hold you in his arms any longer.
Tears well up to your eyes hearing him snore lightly next to you. Wondering if he’s losing sleep lately too but the way he peacefully sleeps tells you, he’s not letting his mind run wild.
“No sleep for me again, I guess,” silently leaving the bed you grasp one of his shirts to press it to your nose. It’s the only time you can catch his scent, so you take what you get. “Sleep well, Stevie. You don’t seem to have problems falling asleep.”
As so often lately, you walk out of the bedroom to grab a snack or watch nonsense on TV to take your mind of the problems right in front of you. Somewhere on the line you and Steve lost your love, or you lost Steve. You haven’t found out yet.
All you know is that the deafening silence between you and your husband is breaking you every day more.
“Can’t find sleep?” Bucky asks, watching you sit on one of the chairs in the kitchen. Steve invited his friend to sleep a few weeks at your guestroom as his apartment got blown up by one of New Hydra’s goons.
“I just-“ you bite your tongue, shaking your head every so lightly. You like Bucky, he’s your friend, but you can’t talk about Steve with him. He’s your husband’s best friend and would side with Steve over anyone. “Sometimes I got problems to fall asleep, is all,” you lie poorly.
“What about Steve?” searching your face Bucky nods silently. He can see your red-rimmed eyes and hear your tiny sighs whenever Steve ignores your present. “Maybe you want hot cocoa? I can make you some, doll.”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just sit here for a while, ya know,” playing with your wedding band you don’t meet Bucky’s gaze, fearing he’ll see through your lie. “I just got a lot of things going on right now. We are back, work with Tony and the others again. Maybe we just need time to adapt.”
“If I can help, tell me so,” offering a cracked smile you nod, knowing you can’t take Bucky up to his offer. “You’re my friend too. How about we watch a movie and talk a bit?”
“I appreciate your offer, but I’m not in the mood to talk, Bucky,” sadly you are too tired and emotionally exhausted to even talk about the thing weighing heavy on your heart.
“Y/N,” walking toward Bucky places one hand onto your shoulder, squeezing it lightly. “Just talk to him, doll. Steve loves you and-“ you huff. It’s the first reaction he gets from you making clear you are hurt.
“I don’t want to talk about it, him,” voice cracking you watch Bucky rummage in your kitchen to prepare cocoa for you.
“You went through a lot together over the last years,” Bucky begins, eyes drifting toward you slumped in your chair. “Ultron, the accords, me,” you laugh when Bucky gives you a wink. “I know, I’m the most charming event rocking the boat but then there was the war between the Avengers, Thanos, the blip, and after that-”
“Steve told me he thought about going back to Peggy for a split-second, that life back then was easier and more-“ you try to find the right words but fail. “All I got was that he’s still a man out of time and that he’s sorry for considering going back.”
“Well, shit-“ Bucky grumbles. “I didn’t know, I swear. Here I stand, believing I know everything about my friend,” you shrug, watching Bucky prepare two mugs. “Did he at least apologize?”
“He did, more than once and I forgave, but never forgot,” sniffing you look at Bucky. “Since then, he started to distance himself from me. I feel like he regrets coming back to me, Bucky.” gasping you realize you just revealed your thoughts.
“Doll...”
“Please don’t tell him. I know Steve is a good man, but sometimes I think it would be easier for me if he just does what he has on his mind for months – file for divorce.”
“Anything from Steve?” watching Bucky check his phone you sigh deeply. Steve disappeared this morning, out of the blue. “Why didn’t he tell us about his mission? He always told me about his missions, confidential or not.”
“I got nothing either, doll,” grumbling Bucky sit on the couch, scrolling through his contacts. “Shall I call Tony or Natasha? Maybe they can fill us in why Stevie just grabbed a bag and left without telling us about his mission.”
“No,” biting your lower lip you wreck your brain. Maybe Steve did tell you about his mission? Lately, you are too lost in thoughts and self-doubts and barely listen if Steve finally talks to you. “I have work to do at the new tower. I will ask Tony if he can tell me about Steve’s whereabouts.”
“Okay,” wondering again Bucky looks at his phone, shaking his head at Steve’s message from last night.
“Steve is not on a mission?” gaping at Tony you try to hide you can hear your heart pounding in your ears. “I thought he went on a mission last night. Did I confuse the date?”
“There is no mission for Capsicle,” Tony snickers. “According to my information, he took a week off. Said something about sorting things out. Honestly, I didn’t listen.”
“O-okay,” you swallow thickly, force a smile on your lips hurting your face. “I got it wrong then. I finished my reports. You should check on the sidenotes about the bank accounts. Maybe E.D.I.T.H. can check on the accounts later.”
“Y/N, is everything alright? You look a little shaken up or something,” Tony watches you fiddle with your phone, knowing something must be off with you and your husband. “Do you need my help? You know that you can tell me anything.”
“It’s nothing, really,” the lie rolls easily off your tongue, you are used to lying to yourself for months so why not lying to your friends too. “I just need some time off, Tony.”
Aimlessly walking the streets of New York, you doubt your husband once again.
Tony said he’s not on a mission. All of your friends don’t know where he could be and Bucky, well he said Steve didn’t tell him anything.
“Where are you Steve?” looking at your phone you sigh deeply. “Fine, we will do it the hard way. E.D.I.T.H., please use the tracking app we put on Steve’s phone. I need to find Captain America. It’s an emergency.”
“Tracing Captain Rogers’ phone,” E.D.I.T.H. replies. “Captain Rogers’ phone is not far away. He’s at a café, P.J. Clarke’s on 55th and 3rd, agent Rogers. Can I help you with anything else?”
“No, thank you,” walking faster you grip your phone tightly. Why is Steve at a café at that time of the day? He never disappeared only to take a day off and sip coffee.
If a heart can shatter, yours does in the very moment you arrive at the café only to see Steve sit at a table with Sharon Carter.
You haven’t seen her for years, but you must admit, she looks great as always.
“Stevie,” you whisper, hands clutched tightly to your chest when Sharon places her hand onto Steve’s on the table and he doesn’t move his hand away. He smiles, even chuckles at something the woman says. “A Carter again, how pathetic. Fuck that. Fuck fighting for our love if you refuse to even try.”
Unbeknownst you saw him with Sharon your husband tries to ask his friend for advice. Missing your pained expression and the tears run down your face when you storm off.
“Doll! Fuck I was worried about you. Tony called, asked if you are okay. He said Steve is not on a mission and that he took a week off,” Bucky watches you storm into your and Steve’s apartment. “Y/N, something wrong?”
“Everything is wrong, Bucky. But from now on, I’ll take my life back in my hands,” you quip. “I would appreciate it if you could get me my ‘I hate early mornings mug’, I want to take it with me,” walking toward your bedroom you ignore Bucky follows you.
“What do you mean by taking it with you?” while you get two suitcases out, Bucky tries to make you talk to him. “Do you want to go on a mission? Why so many suitcases?”
“Oh, Stevie was busy to take a week off while I was worried about him,” you quip, opening your drawer to grab random clothes, tossing Steve’s onto the floor. “Imagine my surprise when I traced his phone only to find him with another Carter.”
“Sharon?” humming you neatly fold your clothes to place them into the first suitcase. “Did he-?”
“No, but I guess Steve is just not man enough to file for divorce to be with her,” glaring at Bucky you make your way back toward the wardrobe to grab more clothes. “While I tried to save our marriage, Steve sits in a café and allowed that woman touch his hand. He smiled at her Bucky. I didn’t get a smile from him for months.”
“Doll, you can’t just leave without talking to him,” Bucky tries to stop you, but you made up your mind. Before you met Steve, you were wild, feisty, and stubborn but he tamed you and your free spirit. “Wait, let me call him.”
“I tried to call him this morning and after I saw him with that woman,” slamming the first suitcase shut you glare at Bucky. “He didn’t answer. It was his last chance to explain things to me, Bucky. Now I’m done waiting for Steve to tell me it is over, we are over.”
“What’s that?” looking at a neatly folded letter on your bed Steve feels his chest tightening. Your wedding band lies abandoned on the letter, but you are nowhere to be found.
“She saw you with Sharon yesterday. I guess taking off a week to meet up with an old flame and ignoring your wife called you about ten times wasn’t the smartest plan,” Bucky shrugs. “I called you too.”
“I need time to figure things out,” Steve sits on the bed, pressing the wedding band in his hand to his chest. “We went through a rough patch and I didn’t know how to fix things between Y/N and me.”
“Not talking to her and getting all cozy with Sharon was a great idea,” gritting the words out Bucky watches his friend unfold the letter with shaking fingers. “Steve.”
“I-I just didn’t know if Y/N still wants me after I admitted that I was tempted to go back to Peggy. She was distant for a few weeks and then, she almost clang to me. As if Y/N tried to fake she forgave me,” reading the letter Steve sniffles silently. “Oh, god she wants to file for divorce.”
“What?” grasping for the letter Bucky reads the last lines you wrote.
‘As you aren’t man enough to tell me that you don’t love me anymore, I will tell you it’s over. You don’t have to be the bad guy, Captain. The papers will reach you soon. Have a great life with Sharon…’
“Do you know where she went, Bucky?” jumping up Steve looks for his keys, already grasping for his phone to call you back. “Buck!”
“She came here, packed two suitcases, and left. I tried to stop her, but she didn’t listen, Steve. I don’t think Y/N will call you back.”
“Then I’ll have to find her, no matter what…”
“A whole month!” Steve waltzes into your apartment, panting heavily. His hair longer again, a thick beard framing his face he wraps you in a hug. “I was so worried, doll. How could you just leave without a trace?”
“Didn’t think you would miss me, Steven,” using his full name on purpose, you smirk as Steve flinches. “I believed Sharon would soothe the pain and fill the tiny gap I left in your life.”
“Y/N,” mumbling your name Steve pecks your hair while his hands run up and down your back. “I swear, I’m not with Sharon and I don’t want her, doll. When you saw me with her, I gave her something Peggy left for me. It was the first step to give up my past.”
“You held hands, and you smiled at her, Steven. Don’t lie to me,” you push against his chest, try anything to break out of his embrace. “I’m not stupid nor blind.”
“She grasped for my hand as I gave her the medallion Peggy left me. I smiled as she thanked me, and we remembered the last days with Peggy. Y/N, please believe me there is nothing between me and Sharon,” Steve desperately tries to not let you slip out of his embrace, but you fight him with all your strength.
“That’s the reason you take a week off and instead of having dinner with me, you meet up with that woman. Your former girlfriend,” you growl, pushing against Steve’s chest. “I tried to fix us, and you just ran off.”
“I wanted to clear my mind,” Steve mumbles. “I was afraid you are still mad at me for admitting that I thought about going back in time for Peggy for a second. I’m bad at admitting my feelings. I was afraid to lose you and handled it the wrong way.”
“Pushing me away to keep me was a great plan,” you give up fighting Steve’s strength, hating he’s so much stronger than you are once again. “You hurt me and now you come here and want me to do what?”
“Please come home, doll,” pecking your forehead Steve mumbles apologies against your skin. “Your husband is an idiot when it comes to feelings. I love you, love you so much. We need to work on our marriage but please don’t give up on us.”
“Like you did months ago?” cursing under your breath you glare at Steve when he tries to kiss you. “Fixing things between us won’t be that easy, Steve. You hurt me with your behavior. If you want me to come back, you’ll have to do more than coming here and looking like the man I’ve missed.”
“I’ve missed you too, doll,” pecking your lips Steve slides his fingers through your hair. “Please come home and I’ll do anything you want me to do. Tell me how to fix us.”
“Maybe Bucky can give you advice,” you smirk, breaking out of Steve’s embrace to walk into your living room. “He’s a man who can talk with a woman.”
“When did Bucky talk to you? Doll?” while you check on your phone Steve starts to pace your living room. “Did he touch my girl?”
“Why would your best friend touch me, Stevie?” you coo. “I mean, Sharon only touched your hand, right. There is no reason for me to be mad. What if Bucky did the same or Tony? Maybe Sam hugged me a bit longer than necessary.”
“I will kill them,” Steve balls his hands into fists, stares daggers into the picture of you and the team. “Tell me who dared to touch my wife,” nostrils flaring, chest heaving up and down Steve points at the picture.
“See,” you walk toward your husband, placing your hand onto his heart before you meet his gaze. “That’s how I felt when you let that woman touch you. You gave her my smile while you ignored me.”
“I didn’t ignore you; it was just-“ sighing Steve hangs his head low. “I get it, doll and I’m sorry. If you give me a chance to prove that I can be the man you deserve, I’ll try to do so every day from now on…”
Part 1, Part 2
Before being an Avenger, you were practically nothing but some part time vigilante whilst working full time to earn enough that would last you a whole week, you saved a few people from robbers and muggings which made you feel a little bit better about yourself, I mean not that you ever doubted yourself but knowing that you could help others whilst never having that protection during your youth times was rewarding in a way.
That’s how you have met your girlfriend, you saved her from couple of guys trying to rob her when she was working, it was also the time you discovered you had powers, you are able to control peoples minds and rewind time just enough to avoid any injuries.
It feels like it happened yesterday, you went to buy yourself a coffee from a new café that just opened up recently when suddenly there was a gun shot and a lot of screams along with some shouting telling people to get on the ground, you did that and watched the whole event unfold before your eyes.
At first it was them waving their weapons to scare people around them and demand money but as soon as they got what they wanted, they planned to at least kill someone and that was the girl behind the counter, who was scared shitless, she tried not to show it but when he pointed his gun at her and had the most disturbing smirk across his face, how could she not be, he pulled the trigger and you jumped out reaching out to the girl when everything stopped and time went back that’s when you ended up in the same place couple minutes before the men arrive.
You looked around to see if you were dreaming but before you could practically be amazed at your new ability, you jumped into action, running to the front door as the girl behind the counter looked at you funny, trying to stop you but you didn’t listen. You held the door and told her to call the police, you saw those men standing outside looking at you as they pointed a gun at you, you knew they would shoot so you ducked but held the door like your life depended on it.
For your luck the girl called the police and just when you were about to let go of the door and have them shoot you right there and then, the police surrounded all of the men with guns in their hands and with a huge sigh you let go of the door and fell back onto the floor to rest.
They were arrested and after giving your statement to the police, of course you had to lie mostly about how you knew it was going to happen, you said you had a bad feeling and figured something would happen, they were just happy they didn’t have any runners to extend their time on a case that would end up being forgotten.
The girl approached you with a small smile across her face “Hey.. I just wanted to thank you for doing that.. You saved not only me but a lot of people inside too.”
You smiled at her “It’s really not a problem, I’m just glad no one was hurt”
You reached your hand towards her “I’m Y/n” she shook your hand and replied “Olivia”
And that’s how it all started, you came by the café more often just to see her and she was happy to see you either way, she knew your order by heart and always had it ready for you. She liked your company so you stayed until you finished your coffee and was on your way, you gathered the courage and finally asked her out which she eagerly agree to. The first date wasn’t fancy but it was perfect, it was short which wasn’t a big deal and following that you had a few more dates before starting dating, eventually couple years in things started to be more than good, that’s when you decided you wanted to move in with her.
It was all perfect, you felt like nothing could go wrong but that was until you was caught trying to do your part time vigilante work by Iron Man, he dragged you to the Avenger tower to Nick Fury and he offered you a place within the team as he saw potential within you. You was taken back but agreed to join, you rushed back home as you weren’t needed until the team was back since they went off on a mission, and waited for your girlfriend to get back from work, she was an assistant for some big company so she was mostly busy but she always loved listening to your day to take the stress off her mind.
Even though you wanted to tell her everything, she didn’t know you was the vigilante, she knew you helped people out with your powers but you knew her opinion on hero'svigilantes, she hated it but was grateful for them as she felt safer within the city. You knew her intentions were pure but you had a different opinion.
You waited anxiously for her on the couch, bouncing your leg up and down from the nerves, you know her reaction will be something you wont like but this is huge for you. You will finally be able to help without hiding behind the whole vigilante ‘Time Breaker’ nickname the public made for you.
As soon as she walked in, she noticed your anxiousness “What’s wrong” She looked worried but you jumped up with a smile.
“I have news” Joy was practically dripping from you.
“I’m going to be on the team with the Avengers” You exclaimed with so much joy in your tone that you thought this somehow will make her be happy for you.
She dropped her bags and her face wasn’t like yours but with shock “What?”
“Well I helped someone out and Tony Stark caught me and dragged me to the Avenger tower and then I was offered a place in the team and I just took it”
“What?” She repeated herself as if you wasn’t talking in a language she would understand.
You looked at her confused and she finally spoke up from her shock state “You didn’t even think about considering this? You just took it without even consulting with me?”
You wanted to look confuse at her but you knew this would be her reaction “Olivia, come on you know how huge this will be-”
She interrupted you “You should’ve spoke to me about it as well.. We are a couple after all”
She took her bag and walked off towards your room as she closed the door behind her, usually when you have arguments you try to just listen each other out but when she shut the door you knew she didn’t want to listen to you so you just took your keys and walked out to give her some time to think about it and you made your way towards the tower again to meet the whole team.
The whole team was actually very welcoming when they heard about you joining, they all said that they have been watching you do your vigilante work and they were all pretty impressed. They gave me a room which you said you wont need but apparently its for long missions where you would have to be here for.
Everyone was excited to have a new member on their team and they all tried to show off their skills and abilities except this one redhead. You spoke with everyone and they all were chatting amongst each other so you took the opportunity to walk up to the redhead that was not far from yous.
She was sat at the bar, just paying attention to her drink, not really expecting anyone to approach her “Hello” you spoke up which made her jump a little.
She faced you and looked at the group of people who were just having usual banter “Shouldn’t you be over there with them?”
You leaned on the bar as you observed her “Probably but they are too busy with each other to even notice I am here”
She had a small smile across her lips as she traced the edge of the glass with her finger “Why are you here?”
“Well you are the only one who didn’t show what you can do”
She laughed “If I did that, I’m pretty sure the whole room would be upside down”
Something about this girl made you want to stick around, she was interesting and closed off a little which you didn’t mind. She was insanely beautiful and she was around your age which made you feel a little bit at ease to know that you aren’t the only young person there.
The only reason you didn’t know her was because she was new as well, she recently joined as well and felt a little bit left out as everyone in here already knew each other well enough to feel comfortable around them.
An idea popped in your head as you smiled “Pick a person and I will show you something”
She narrowed her eyes as she tried to figure out what you are trying to do “Okay? Steve Rogers”
You looked at him and called out “Steve!” His attention was now on you and you spoke up again “Do a chicken dance”
He looked confused and refused to do that, which you just shrugged your shoulders at and closed your eyes when you opened them they turned white and his too and suddenly he was dancing just like you wanted. The redhead had a smile across her face as she was amazed to what you could do, and so was everyone else in the room. You broke the trance and Steve stood there completely clueless as everyone around him laughed.
You looked at her “Okay now it’s your turn”
She just smirked as she blurted out couple seconds in “Bruce is disappointed as he wanted someone to join them with the same level of knowledge as him so he can have a partner”
You narrowed your eyes at her “How do I know you’re not making that up?”
She turned towards the group and spoke up “Bruce I can’t believe you are disappointed in our recent recruitment”
He looked so shocked “How did you- Get out of my head!” and you both just laughed.
“I’m Y/n Y/l/n” You reached your hand towards her so she could shake it.
“Wanda Maximoff” She shook your hand with a small smile.
Couple hours later
You came back home, it was late and you expected Olivia to be fast asleep but your unresolved argument kept her up. You walked through the door and that’s when Olivia came out from the bedroom worried about you.
“Y/n?” She called out as you walked further into the house and saw her with something in hand.
“Olivia? What are you doing?” You eyed the weapon she had in hand and she sighed with relief.
She shook her head “I didn’t think you would come back today so I thought someone was breaking in”
You knew she still had some PTSD from that café incident so you didn’t think much of it “Of course I was going to come back home.. Why are you up?”
You placed your keys down in your usual spot and walked over to her after she placed the object down near her “I couldn’t sleep”
You reached for her hand and held it tight “It’s okay, I’m here, just let me go toilet and we can just lay in bed until you fall asleep”
Even if you were upset with how she reacted, you loved her and wanted her to feel safe.
She nodded and you did just that, you went toilet and then you both laid in bed after you changed into something more comfortable to sleep in, she was laying on your chest cuddled tightly into your body as if you was going to disappear.
She looked up at you, you could see in her eyes something was eating her inside out “What’s wrong?”
She sighed and sat up, you mimicked her actions and turned on the little night lamp you had so you could see better “I wanted to talk about the disagreement we had earlier”
You nodded and she continued “I know my reaction to what you told me was upsetting but you know how worried I am already when you put your life at risk helping people out a little, I just don’t want to lose you”
She cupped your face with both of her hands “I love you and I don’t want you to think I won’t support you but I’m just worried”
“I know and I’m sorry I didn’t ask for time and told you about it before taking the place. I was just so excited I just don’t want to hide” You played with your ring on your thumb to calm your nerves down.
“I know and now, you can finally be more than just the ‘Time Breaker’ vigilante”
You looked up at her from your hands and she had a small smirk across her face “You knew?”
She nodded “Of course, I knew you would never pass the chance to do anything that could save peoples lives and just so you know I am proud of you”
You hugged her as she giggled from the sudden attack, she hugged you back and you both fell back to your original position and fell asleep couple minutes after.
3 months later
During this time, you and your girlfriend were on good terms but with missions getting in the way you never had time for each other, even if she said she was proud of you for doing what you always wanted, you knew she is still upset about it which caused some arguments and you would usually just spend your days in your room at the Avenger tower watching anything to take your mind off Olivia.
Today was one of those days, you wanted to spend your 4 year anniversary with her before you had to travel to the compound for the mission but she had other plans for that day with her friends so you ended up walking out whilst she was getting dressed and ended up here.
Did she bother to call you? No, were you waiting for her to? Yes, you wanted her to say she’s sorry and that she actually had something planned for you but she was actually at a party because you saw her friends posting stuff on their social media.
You held the phone in your hand, staring at it waiting for it to light up and display an apologetic message from her but there was no luck, even though you was watching something, it just didn’t take your mind of her.
“Are you just going to stare at your phone all day?” A voice appeared from the door way which made you look.
You saw Wanda standing with her arms crossed and she gave you a smile as she walked over to you when you didn’t say anything “What’s wrong?”
You shrugged, you placed the phone on the night stand and sat up, not saying anything which Wanda took as an invitation to sit down near you.
Over the course of 2 months, you two were close friends but were still learning a lot about each other. For example during the team movie night, they all wanted to watch horror movies but you hated them. Of course you were teased for that but Wanda made sure they would choose something else. She wasn’t the only one who stuck by your side.
Natasha Romanoff did as well, she was quick to become your favourite person here, she was hilarious and could easily beat anyone here except Hulk because.. Well that dude is just not her size, though you could argue if it did come down to it. She loved playing pranks on the team and you soon become her partner in crime when it came to that, with your ability to control people’s minds you helped her do a lot of things like make people spill things or add too much spices to their food and watch them choke.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it but I can’t let you look this depressing. Come join me in the kitchen, I’m cooking dinner this time”
You raised your eyebrows at her to tease her “You cook?”
She chuckled and rolled her eyes “Of course I do. Now come on” She grabbed your hand, you took your phone with you and you two walked hand in hand towards the kitchen.
You help the Sokovian out a lot actually, even if you didn’t really had time to cook before but you always knew how to. When you would finish your part, you would just lean and watch her with admiration at how concentrate she was but you would snap out of it, reminding yourself that you were in a relationship.
She brought the spoon up to your face so your attention isn’t turned towards your phone “Here, taste it” which you did and your face lit up at the different taste.
“Good? Am I missing something?” She asked a little worried but you shook your head still trying to process how good her food is.
“No! Its perfect, not only you’re dead ass gorgeous but also an amazing cook” You were too memorized by the food to even think twice what you were saying.
She blushed and before you had time to even correct yourself she quickly changed the subject “So will you tell me what’s wrong?” She looked up from what she was doing at you.
You sighed and looked down at your phone to see nothing and decided to open up “Today is mine and Olivia’s 4 year anniversary but she decided to spend it with her friends instead”
“At least you’re not alone today..” She said with a small smile on her face, trying to light up the mood.
You nodded and she questioned “So what are you going to do?”
You shrugged “I’m not sure but I know one thing”
She looked confused to why you stopped and suddenly, your eyes turned white when Tony barged in with his eyes white, she looked at both of you and within seconds Tony got ahold of flour as he dumped it over the Sokovian witch.
You broke the trance and looked at Wanda who was covered in white from head to toe and Tony who was lost at how he even got here as he held an empty bag of flour in his hand.
You laughed as she used her powers to throw some of the flour on you but you went back in time and avoided the attack which made her chase you around the kitchen “I teach you how to cook a good meal and that’s how you repay me Y/n. You wait”
You knew she was going to do something and you were right, she made you freeze in place and had an egg held in her hand, you knew what she was going to do, she walked towards you with a smirk across her face.
“You have no way out, you can’t rewind or control anyone. The only fate here is the egg to be cracked on your head” The red mist entangled with her fingers controlling your captivity.
Tony was going to just walk out without protesting but she held him as well which made him speak up “What did I do?” He basically whined but Wanda didn’t care.
“For all I know you could get someone to help Y/n, so you’re staying here” She stated which made Tony shake his head “Actually I don’t care-”
She used her powers to stick a cloth inside his mouth so he would shut up, you was laughing at the whole thing but suddenly the egg turned into 10 which were floating in the air and were ready to be thrown at you but she was waiting.
“Come on Wands.. You don’t want to do this..” You tried your luck but she shook her head “Oh but I really do” and with that all those eggs aimed at you, covering you with the egg goo, she walked up closer as she held the last egg
“That’s for the flour” and she just cracked the egg on your head making it slowly run down your head which made her laugh and she let you go.
That was a mistake
What she didn’t notice was that you were planning to give it back to her, and suddenly your body collide with hers, holding her tight making sure she has some of that egg too. That’s when her eyes widen at how close yous are, making yous both blush and you let go off her, that’s when the rest of the team walks into the kitchen that’s covered in flour and egg shells.
“What in the world happened here” Someone exclaimed from the team, whilst Natasha laughed.
The next day
You ended up in Wanda’s room after the dinner, Nat did join yous for a while to watch some sitcoms but she wasn’t really into that, so she left later on when Wanda was drifting to sleep.
Somehow you ended up falling asleep along with Wanda, yous must’ve shifted in your sleep as now Wanda is cuddled into you with her head resting on your chest.
She has been awake for some time but she didn’t want to move, risking waking you up and parting away from her. She enjoyed your company a little too much, she always wanted to be around you, you made her days better, especially when she is having a rough day, she always knows she can count on you and that’s what caused her to fall for you.
When you joined the Avengers, that night you met them all, she was a little sceptic rather than welcoming, she sat away to avoid any interaction with anyone from the team, she was still a lot more closed off than she is now and when you approached her she knew she could trust you, it was a gut feeling.
Finding out you were in a relationship kind of bothered Wanda but she brushed it off, especially since there was nothing she could do about it. The more she got to know you the more she liked you, you were like a golden retriever; Happy, beautiful, smart but if someone pissed you off you was like Natasha which was why Natasha found herself hanging out more with you than the rest of the team.
Wanda looked up from where she was, staring at your relaxed featured, just taking in how calm you looked, her heart melting at the sight of you.
“Watching me sleep creepy lady?” You asked still with your eyes closed.
She tensed when you suddenly spoke up but relaxed within seconds when she rolled her eyes at you “No?” She had a blush across her cheeks for being caught.
You smiled as your hand reached to your face to rub your eyes and stretch out “Mhm sure”
Your raspy voice in the morning will be Wanda’s favourite thing from now on. The only girl you ever had in bed (besides your ex girlfriends), was Olivia and now that Wanda is here with you is.. different. You would be lying if you said that you didn’t like it but you did, her embrace was comforting.
Yous decided it was best to get up and cook breakfast before the whole team wakes up. Well Wanda cooked breakfast whilst you quietly stare at her, drinking your coffee at the same time.
Natasha was the first one up from the rest of the team and ate Wanda’s breakfast, she wanted to spar with you so you agreed, it was a good idea to just get fired up before the mission. She was good and you needed some hand to hand combat skills in case your powers refuse you.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Couple hours later
Travelling to a Hydra base wasn’t something everyone was thrilled about, the whole team was needed for no reason, you and Wanda could just take the whole place down with your powers but this mission was tricky, yous didn’t need to just beat them up but you needed their data and blow their base up, S.H.E.I.L.D. intel wasn’t the best, they barely gathered anything apart that this base had some dangerous weapons that’s why you were needed.
As soon as the whole team along with you jumped out of the Quinjet, you expected agents to be flooding the field but there was nothing. You was instructed to go near the base just in case they flooded out since you could rewind time, so just like that you started to approach the base.
You walked inside and there was no one there, you expected it to be heavily guarded but no one was seen, so you went further inside as you reached to your ear to inform the team, that’s when the guards made their way out and spotted you.
You pressed your ear so the team can hear you whilst you talk down the guards, just in case your powers failed so the team would be informed to help you “Look fellas, I’m here.. you are here. Can we not be buddies?”
You tried but they launched at you and you simply went back in time, just enough before they spotted you. You reached to your ear and spoke quietly “This must be a set up, the guards know we are here they are waiting for us to approach the base, I can sneak inside and just do the work quickly. Just wait for my signal”
The team agreed that you should do it but Wanda protested “No Y/n! Come back and let’s do this together”
“Maximoff, Everything will be fine besides I can rewind if anything goes wrong. It’s okay.” You spoke and started to make your way towards the guards, you hid behind them and controlled one of their minds as you made them fight each other, knocking them out, you pulled their bodies to where you were so other were not alerted. You took their weapons and attached it near the bomb that you was suppose to plant.
You made your way to the core of the base and there was no one but you knew better, you closed your eyes and searched for any soul near you which you did find, you forced them to the centre and pushed them as their body was shot multiple times.
You reached to your ear to let know the team that you made it “Okay, I’m at the core of the base, I have the pen drive, I’ll plant the bomb as soon as the data starts to transfer.”
The team sighed in relief that you were still alive but they were pretty much surprised that the amount of guards. Wanda and Natasha knew something was wrong but they couldn’t go against orders, even if they were your orders they were approved by everyone.
You plugged the pen drive inside the slot and placed the bomb near the weapons, the timer will start as soon as you let Tony know to start it, you started at the huge screen as the percentage increased. You knew it was too good to be true to just leave without being detected.
A sharp sting in your shoulder and thigh occurred that muted the gunshots from behind you as you turned around to see the guard with a gun in his hand and little smoke coming from it, making you aware that you have been shot twice, you looked back you at the screen which was closer to finishing, as you controlled his mind and made him shoot his leg himself and knock himself out.
The focus for the mission was keeping you busy from the pain but as soon as you moved your leg, the pain was stronger which made you groan and limp towards the computer, as soon as it hit 100%, you snatched the drive and slowly made your way towards the exit where you saw about 5-10 guards standing with their guns pointing at you.
You laughed a little and took the weapon attached to your belt as you started to shoot at them, they were shooting at you but they missed as you went back in time but each time you did the less energy you had, it was mainly because you was losing blood and was hit couple more times, you didn’t even notice until you moved from your place to hide behind something.
You reached to your ear, taking a deep breath and speaking “Tony start the timer.”
“On it” He spoke to your ear and soon enough his voice spoke up again “Okay, you have 3 minutes before the whole place blows up, can you make it?” He asked the question he didn’t want to, which he earned a shocking glare from Wanda and Natasha, they weren’t expecting that.
“Yeah, I’m on my way out” As you spoke, gunshots slipped through which made the team be more worried.
“Y/n do you need back up?” Natasha asked and there was no reply, they were about to run inside from the Quinjet but Tony started to fly above. You and him had a plan which the team wasn’t inform off, this way you wouldn’t be stopped, they thought they will be joining you but you was suppose to go alone.
“Tony what the fuck are you doing?” Natasha harshly spoke as she stared at him from behind but he didn’t answer.
Wanda worried stood up “We need to help Y/n!” But she was ignored as well.
You knew you didn’t have time but you hoped this will work out, the reason to why the team wasn’t needed was because that could cause a lot of problems like compromising the mission but they were there in case things went south.
You took a deep breath and with everything you had, started to run towards the exit, with the pain becoming more stronger, which had some guards there but you manged to knock them out with your mind control, you failed to notice that one of them pretended to be knocked out so when you approached the exit, you was shot again, this time nearer to your heart which punctured your lung, you knew this is bad but you went on.. At least tried to, right as you reached the end, you were close to dropping to the ground but that’s when the bomb went off, sending you flying into the air, several feet away from the base and where the Quinjet was.
You was barely breathing and barely conscious to what was happening around you, but one redhead made it towards you. You smiled at whoever was there and started to close your eyelids since they become so heavy.
“Oh my god, Y/n” A shaky voice spoke up, you could tell it was Wanda.
You tried to wave your hand to dismiss it but the pain was too much so you spoke up “It’s fine..”
She covered your mouth with her hand “Shut up and save your energy! You can’t die now”
You was trying hard to stay awake but it wasn’t working and the darkness was much closer than you really wanted, you passed out the second the Sokovian redhead lifted you with her powers.
Long couple hours later
The medical wing wasn’t keen on giving anyone any information about your condition which only worried everyone. Wanda barely left the waiting room in hopes that they will crack and tell her about you but nothing.
She wanted to barge in there and demand answers but she knew better than to delay your way to recovery. Wanda was more than worried, she was terrified, at the thought of your body going limb when she picked you up really scared her.
At the loss of her parents and her brother, she thought she would never open up to anyone but when you waltzed into her life, you instantly melted her walls with just one look, you made it easier to breath when she was around you, that’s why she can’t lose you.
Tony along with Natasha and Steve made their way towards Wanda, they knew she was upset.
she looked up, her blood boiling at the sight of Tony, she stood up with her eyes turning red “What do you think you’re doing here?” the question was laced with venom.
“Are there any news?” Natasha asked knowing that anything could trigger Wanda.
She shook her head but her glare didn’t leave Tony which angered her more, she wanted him out of this hallway, she wanted to see you smile and laugh.. Just be alive but you are in there with no updates.
“Look Witch, me and her had a plan before we went on the mission, she was suppose get out there before the bomb went off but obviously the plan didn’t work out exactly like we wanted, she was suppose to be on the Quinjet before it exploded, she knew it was a set up but she went anyways, we needed that data and now we are able to create better weapons because of it.” He tried to explain the best he could to Wanda, he felt guilty he didn’t let someone else come with you but they both knew it would be dangerous.
“Why didn’t you just let me or Natasha come with her!” She screamed, it made some lights flicker as her powers slowly emitted from her.
Tony took a deep breath “She didn’t want anyone, I tried to convince her to take someone but she said that would rather die than let anyone else suffer”
With his words, Wanda’s eyes turned back to normal as it filled with tears, she was so mad at you for doing such a reckless thing without even talking to her about it. Natasha approached her and gently wrapped her arms around Wanda, she was trying her best to keep her tears in but that was slightly impossible.
Doctor Helen Cho walked out to the scene, she made herself known by clearing her throat, immediately Wanda turned and stared at her, she was dreading this moment but put a brave face.
“This might be hard to hear but Y/n flatlined three times before going into a stable condition. Some of the bullets made their way towards further into her body, especially into her lung, it was difficult to even take it out but we did it and she should be okay, she lost a lot of blood so we put her into a medically induced coma to record quicker but she can easily slip into her own coma from so much trauma so we will be monitoring her for now” She spoke, explaining everything that went on inside that small room.
The only two things that stuck with Wanda was that you flatlined three times but you’re alright. She closed her eyes, trying her best to keep calm, as she sat back down in the chair, they all looked at the Sokovian, it was kind of scary to see her like this.
Natasha took it as an opportunity to ask if anyone can go in and visit you “Is visiting possible?”
Helen nodded “Yes but one at a time, too much people might disturb her”
Wanda stood up with the most dull face you could witness “How many times?”
Helen took a deep breath “She was shot 7 times”
Wanda nodded and just walked inside the room leaving the 3 behind, she needed to be there when you wake up, she knew how much you hated bright white rooms, she never knew the exact reason but she never asked, she wanted you to tell her.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Two weeks later
The air in the compound was thick with tense, especially since Wanda never wanted to leave your side but she was needed in some small missions, now that you was gone she was needed twice as much, you and her made missions seem so much easier but now that you are still in the coma, she was forced to leave you.
Wanda was currently after her mission, she was exhausted but she rushed to your side to be there when you wake up, she had a feeling you would wake up. She was there for hours but still no luck, that’s when there was a knock on the door which her head followed, she saw Vision.
She relaxed and walked outside to see him, he tried to convince her to go shower and rest but she didn’t want any of that, she just wanted to be here, you woke up during that time, your eyes scanned the room that’s when it landed outside the window to Vision and Wanda, you were so high on painkillers that you didn’t even notice any pain.
He was extremely close to her, his hand on her cheek and looked at her so lovingly, she looked sad and his other hand was on her hip holding her close. You wasn’t sure how long you have been out but it must’ve been long since Vision and Wanda are now together (Obviously they weren’t), at the sight of them that close, your heart broke. You had feelings for Wanda for sometime now but Olivia was your girlfriend and you knew you had to bury those feelings, especially now that Wanda is with someone else.
You hated bright rooms so your breathing increased, slowly having a little panic attack when you came to your senses, the heart monitor started to beep faster which caught Wanda’s attention.
She ran inside leaving Vision, to which he just walked away a little disappointed, she held your hand “It’s okay Y/n, I’m here sweetie”
You relaxed at her touch but your breathing didn’t steady “Y/n look at me and follow my breathing”
She started to breathe slowly in and out which you mimicked, you was relaxing, she always had that effect on you, tears started to run down your face which Wanda carefully wiped with her thumb.
You leaned into her touch as you blurted out “Take me home please..”
Your pleading broke Wanda’s heart, she knows how much you hate these rooms “Y/n..”
“Please Wan.. I can’t stay here, its too cold and lonely” You begged her and her grip tighten around your other hand.
“I’m here Детка (baby), and I’m not going anywhere” She spoke as she stared into your eyes.
“I can’t stay here” Another tear slipped down your face, Wanda nodded with a sad smile “Okay.. I will talk to the doctor but for now rest, I will be here моя любовь (My love)”
You didn’t understand what she was saying, for all you know she could call you an idiot but the way she said it, just made you want to listen to her talk all the time.
You nodded and a thought struck you “Wanda…” She hummed as an answer to which you continued “Could you lay with me here until I fall asleep?”
Wanda wanted to just stay in your arms forever but to be asked to cuddle you till you fall asleep because you are terrified of this hospital room, made her even happier, she nodded and climbed next to you as you carefully hugged into her, with her scent filling your nose and her heartbeat you felt safe.
“Do you want to know why I don’t like bright white rooms?” you asked and she nodded.
You wasn’t sure if you should look at her because if you broke down it would be harder to stop but taking a deep breath you looked up and stared into her green eyes, they held this reassurance, she didn’t need to use her words, her eyes said it all
“When I was young, my mother and father decided they didn’t want me so they gave me up for some experiments..” You paused as a flashback of the white room appeared before your eyes, you exhaled shakenly “ All I really remember is the multiple white rooms and the cold empty feeling whilst they did whatever they did”
“So please.. Get me home, I don’t want to be here” Another tear escaped your eyes.
Her free hand cupped your cheek as she wiped the tear and nodded with a smile “You’ll go home, just rest”
It pained her listening to your past, as a little girl to be put through something like that, it must’ve been really scary. Wanda’s hand traced circles on your back, relaxing you, making you fall asleep with her. The red power coursing through her hand near your head as she gave you pleasant dreams.
“Sweet dreams Солнечный свет (Sunshine)”
masterlist
- So, I’m thinking like maybe you and Steve were together before the civil war even happened?
- Like he’s still this soft puppy and he really took his time with you.
- He was this very shy but very romantic guy. A real gentleman who took you on a lot of dates before even making a move to kiss you. AND you were the first to initiate the kiss.
- It’s easy to say that falling in love with this man was inevitable.
- It was perfect. He was perfect. You were perfect.
- Then suddenly it wasn’t.
- Steve started acting strange and distant and it’s not normal for you to doubt his love for you because he’s Steve. He always, and I mean ALWAYS make you feel how much he loves you.
- But is it possible that he’s not in love with you anymore?
- Then you find out that you’re pregnant and you would’ve been ecstatic if it weren’t for the downfall you’re facing called your relationship with Steve.
- You’ve been imagining this moment your whole relationship with Steve. How the both of you would be crying with joy and how the both of you will be planning for your future but that’s not happening right now is it?
- The only thing that happened is the crying part and it was just you crying. Not with joy but with fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of abandonment. And the fear of having to raise a child alone if Steve didn’t want one with you.
- Then flashes of memories you had with Steve appear in your eyes and a smile works its way back to your lips.
- What the hell were you even thinking? Steve would be delighted to find out.
- Steve loves you and he’s just busy with his never ending missions. Steve loves you... Right?
- Wrong.
- The moment you got Steve alone, he seemed very irritated that he’s even in a room with you and that didn’t really help you. You were finding it hard to announce the news and how he’s acting is not helping.
- “Is there a reason for this? I’m very busy, Y/N,” he grumbles but you weren’t offended by his dismissiveness. All that’s going on inside your mind is how he called you by your name. Long gone were the nicknames he always had for you. There was no love when he said your name, only annoyance.
- “I-I have to tell you something,” you stuttered, no longer very fond of the idea about telling him but he deserves to know. Is it horrible to think that maybe he’ll change once he finds out? Will it seem like you’re tying him down with your pregnancy?
- “Well get on with it.,” he says dismissively. Something flashed in his eyes before a grin falls on his lips. For a moment, you thought he was back to his usual self and that made you breathe a little better. “I have to tell you something as well,” he adds before motioning for you to continue.
- “I... Steve, I’m pregnant.” You just went for it, afraid that you may back out when you stalled more.
- Steve’s reaction was nothing you expected. He was too relaxed and you didn’t know if you’re going to be relieved or scared.
- “And I want to break up with you.” His face showed arrogance and the smile that you used to love so much made your skin crawl. It’s like he lived on making you feel this way.
- What exactly were you feeling? Betrayal? Sadness? Anger? No. You can never bring yourself to be mad at him.
- “Is that all?” He asks, his tone getting really impatient that easily makes you feel very belittled and insignificant.
- You can’t find yourself to do anything as Steve rolls his eyes before turning around to walk away.
- You managed to whisper a small “W-wait.” Thankful for his super soldier serum for hearing you.
- He stares at you, still impatient.
- “I-Is that it?” Your eyes started to water, everything falling into you and you start to realize what’s happening.
- “A-are we over? That’s it? You’re breaking up with me because y-you don’t want t-the baby? We can work things out, Steve. It’s... I- It’s normal for couples to not get along sometimes. We can work things out. We always do!” You didn’t even realize that you were crying, whining, or sobbing. You just remember trying your best to make him stay.
- “This is really pathetic, Y/N. I thought you were better than this.” He shakes his head in disappointment which only added a new scar to your heart. You don’t want him being disappointed by you.
- “You want a reason? I’ll give you one. I’ll give you more than one. We are no longer working out. It’s not the same anymore. We’ve obviously fallen apart and I met Sharon...” His face shows guilt and you being so in love with the man, that guilt gave you hope. If he feels guilty then maybe he still cares about you...
- “I never did anything with her, though. Not when I’m still with you. I’m not that kind of man. I’m doing you a favor by breaking up with you. I’m not going to cheat on you, Y/N. I cared about you. I loved you. But this is the end for us. As for the pregnancy... Time changed a lot in this place. I’m pretty sure there are lots of choices for you...” He gives your shoulder a pat before turning around and leaving. Never once looking back at your disheveled form.
- Your heart hurt. The pain was all over you and your ears were ringing and all that’s going on inside your mind is how Steve left you. He told you that he cared and loved you and that’s all in the past now.
- If you didn’t know whether to be relieved or scared earlier, now you do.
- And just like that, you forced yourself to leave. You didn’t know what to do, who to call, where to go. You just know that you had to leave the tower. You were no longer with Steve. You didn’t have the right to be in that place anymore.
- You just had to go.
- You were never really trying to move on. You tried but then you gave up because you can never get over a guy like Steve. You loved him. You still love him. Him loving someone else doesn’t really stop you from loving him. You should but you can’t. And you really didn’t want to.
- You stayed at a friend’s house for a while. They were nice enough to lend you a place to stay, though it’s for a limited amount of time, you were still very thankful. Beggars can’t be choosers.
- You never heard from Steve. Last time you got an update about him was when the news reporter was announcing that the hero was a wanted criminal now. Something about the winter soldier.
- You immediately realized that the winter soldier is his long time friend from all the stories that he used to tell you when you were still together.
- You didn’t know what to feel but you forced yourself to not care. You can’t do anything about it. You only hoped he was in a safe place. You shouldn’t care that much but you did. You still can’t forget about him. Not when you’re carrying his child.
- You were walking around the city, desperately finding a job when you bumped into him.
- Bruce Banner.
- You never really got to get to know him much because when you met him, he was timid and you only ever really talked to him when you bump into him in the tower. And then he disappeared and that’s that.
- But he’s there right in front of you and you didn’t think he’d actually notice you or remember who you are but he did. And he greeted you with a smile. A smile that he never really wore back then.
- “Y/N? Is that you?” He laughed before bringing you into a hug. Well, that’s new.
- “Bruce? Where have you been?” You laughed before returning the hug.
- “It’s a long story... How are you?” He offered to treat you lunch and you followed. You’re basically homeless in a few days so might as well accept blessings when you can, right?
- You told him everything that happened. You told him that you had no idea where Steve is because you broke up before he became a war criminal.
- He noticed your growing stomach and it was quite hilarious and adorable how he was so shy about asking so you told him about it.
- “Yeah, I’m pregnant.” You chuckled at his embarrassed face then apologizing to you for staring. You waved it off, telling him that it’s fine.
- “Sorry to ask but Captain left you even after you told him?” Bruce looks bewildered and disgusted and you could only nod in response, face falling at the memories.
- “Where are you staying right now?” Bruce asked with worry written all over his face.
- “At a friend’s...” You so desperately wanted to ask for help but now is the time that your pride decided to show up.
- “I don’t think that’s safe for you and the baby... You were... The captain’s girlfriend and people can use you for bait. Especially now that he’s wanted... Listen, the tower is really empty right now. Only Tony, Rhodes, and I. I can talk to Tony about it. You can stay there and nobody would even know that you’re there. I’m staying there and nobody knows but Tony...” Bruce’s words gave you hope and you could only nod in tears of joy. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad for you.
- You understand why Bruce wanted to be hidden and that’s something that the both of you would bond over.
- After a few more months, you got bigger. (yep, you kept the baby and fuck steve and his fucking fuckity fuck)
- Bruce is a doctor and you grew to trust him as time went by so it’s normal for him to be the one checking up on you.
- You became very close with Bruce and you found solace in him. He just seems like he knew everything that he’s doing and you felt safe with him. You and your baby are safe with him.
- Steve never really left your mind, not when his child is growing inside of you, but you learned how to live without him.
- You avoided the news because you didn’t want to hear about him, an exercise you taught yourself to become somewhat better.
- So imagine your surprise when he shows up at the tower.
- He looked different. Longer and darker hair. Beard. He looked well and you hated how relieved you were at the thought of him being safe and healthy.
- You locked eyes with him and everything came back to you.
- The hurt you felt when he tossed you aside and the hurt you felt when he dismissed you and your baby.
- You felt sick when you saw his eyes traveling down your body and staring at your very swollen stomach.
- You began breathing unevenly and your chest was becoming tighter. Steve made you nervous. You hate how you feel insecure under his gaze. You hate how you feel like you’re disappointing him and you hate your heart still yearns for him.
- You felt hands snaking around your frame comfortingly and Bruce’s familiar voice brings you out of your mind.
- “Breathe, Y/N… Breathe....” He guided you out of the room, needing the privacy and you thanked him for that after you’re finally breathing properly.
- What you didn’t see was Steve’s fuming face when he saw how Bruce held you and how you reacted to the doctor’s touch. The way you calmed down after hearing his voice.
- Steve remembered how you started panicking after seeing him and he hated how you reacted that way towards him but he hates how you reacted towards Bruce the most.
- Steve’s hatred was drowned by the swelling of his heart when he saw you and your stomach. You’re still carrying his baby and he’s so thankful that you kept his child. He couldn’t love you more at that moment.
- Yes. He loves you. He came back for you and to see you in somebody else’s arms? To see you being comforted by someone else than him? He knows that he’s at fault and he probably deserve it but he’s going to do better. He’s going to be the best he can be. He’s going to be the best for you.
- He’s going to be the man that you would need. You and his baby.
- He’s got a lot to pay for and he’s going to do just that. If only you can cooperate with him…
- Steve watches as Bruce does your ultrasound. He should be there with you but he’s giving you time. He’s giving you space. He doesn’t want you getting overwhelmed again. It’s not healthy for you or the baby so he stands in the shadows, watching you and the baby on the screen.
- “Is that him?” Your voice wavers in excitement and Steve wanted nothing else but to hold your hand but he can’t. Instead, he just watches Bruce’s hand gripping yours in comfort and that just won’t work for Steve… He needs to talk to you.
- “He’s so small but so big at the same time!” Your laugh makes Steve’s heart swell with joy. He will get you back. He’ll do anything and if you don’t want to… He’ll make you want to.
- Steve finally gets you alone. He didn’t force himself on you. He waited. He waited and waited and now you’re ready to finally talk to him.
- “Doll…” He goes over to you to hug you but you step back, avoiding him. If that didn’t hurt his heart, the words you spoke did.
- “Captain.” Your words were short and curt. It’s like you didn’t even want to be there with him at all. And what’s with you calling him captain?
- “I wanted to talk to you, doll.” His voice was soft like honey and you feel your heart pounding with joy but you remained stoic.
- “Well, get on with it.” You should be feeling some sort of relief for repeating his word back then to him but you only felt guilt and the need to comfort him when his face fell and a dejected expression takes place on his face.
- “I-I want to apologize, first of all. You didn’t deserve anything I said back then. I was horrible an- and… I just wanted you to know that I never wanted to hurt you, doll. I love yo-”
- “Well you hurt me. You hurt me a lot.” You cut him off, the stoic expression you were holding is now gone. Steve’s face turns into guilt and he makes a move towards you again but you stop him with a shake of your head.
- “I don’t want to do anything with you right now. I… I don’t even know why you’re bothering to talk to me right now when you were so eager to get rid of me back then. What changed?” You looked at him with those eyes that Steve always felt weak for. He hated himself for hurting you but that’s the only way for you to be safe. He was going to look for Bucky and that will bring a lot of problems and he didn’t want you to be caught in between his fights. He loves you too much and at that time, he believed that hurting you was the best option.
- “I wanted you to be safe, Y/N…” Steve explained, his hand weakly reaching for you but every time you would reject him just adds another stab into his bleeding heart.
- “Well, fuck.” You spat. Steve looked at you in confusion, almost flinching at the way you’re glaring at him.
- “You wanted me safe?” You let out a humorless laugh and this time, Steve flinches.
- “Well thank you, I guess.” You say, voice not holding any emotion anymore. Steve liked you being mad at him rather than this. He didn’t like how you seem like you’ve given up feeling anything for him. He’d rather you mad at him than nothing at all. He deserves your anger towards him. Not this.
- “Well, you can continue making sure I’m safe by fucking off and leaving me to myself then.” That’s the last thing you said before leaving, never once looking back at his disheveled form.
- Steve hated how he feels but he knows that he deserves every single stab in his heart. He knows he deserves more hurting. He wants you to hurt him but you’d never do that. Not his Y/N.
- You’re right though. He will keep you safe. He’ll show you just how much he can take care of you and make you safe.
- He’ll make sure to have you back in his arms. You’re going to be a family and he’ll protect his family at all cost. He’s never loved a woman as he loves you. Not Sharon and not Peggy.
- You never talked to Steve after that confrontation but you still see him. You see him watching over you and you couldn’t help but feel the swelling of your heart whenever you see him.
- You’d see him putting your favorite cereal box down on the counter before you can enter the kitchen so you wouldn’t have to reach for it.
- You’d see him doing simple things to keep you safe and each time, you find yourself longing for the old days you had with him. You find yourself longing for Steve.
- Then it happened.
- Bucky somehow got triggered into becoming the winter soldier and your first reaction would be to find Steve but this time, you didn’t. You went to Bruce.
- Steve’s jaw clenches when he sees you running towards the lab to find Bruce, your hand protecting your stomach. Steve ran towards the lab as well, knowing too well what’s about to happen and he’ll be there to save the day.
- Looking for Bruce didn’t end well because he found you. Not Bruce but the green angry man. The hulk.
- He was shouting while the winter soldier was watching the green man with interest. He somehow managed to trigger the hulk. Your heart skipped a beat at the thought of someone controlling your best friend.
- “Bruce! It’s me!” You shout but the green man only growled before pouncing at you.
- You turned around, crouching and hugging your stomach to protect your baby but the impact never happened.
- The sound of clashing and fighting made you turn around and you see Steve dodging the hulk’s punches with his shield and your heart leaped in relief. You relaxed for a second before feeling worried for Steve.
- It’s like a normal reaction for your body to feel safe with Steve and your brain is starting to believe that too. You remembered his words from before… He just wanted you to be safe.
- He hurt you to keep you safe and you’re starting to understand that now.
- “Y/N!” You see him running towards you with worry written all over his face.
- “Are you okay?!” He asked, hands shaking as he scanned you for any scars.
- “I-I’m fine, Steve… Are you okay?” You tried to look him over for scars but he pulled you into a hug, crying and shaking against your body as he rubbed his hand behind your back.
- “I thought you got hurt. I thought I failed… I just wanted to protect you…” He choked on his words and you hugged him tighter.
- You understand everything now.
- He just wanted to keep you safe.
- You pulled back from the hug before wiping his tears away with your thumbs.
- “What about Bucky and Bruce?” You turned to look behind him but Steve stopped you.
- “Bucky’s alright. He’s back and he’s bringing Bruce to the medbay…” Steve breathes heavily, reminding you of the battle he just had.
- “A-Are you okay, Steve?” You repeat your question and he nods in response before pulling you into a hug again.
- “I don’t care about me. As long as you’re safe. As long as you’re both safe…” He pulls back before pressing a hand on your stomach.
- “I’ll feel safe when you’re both safe. I’ll only feel safe when I know you’re safe. Y/N… Doll… I am fucking sorry for hurting you. There’s no excuse for that. I understand if you don’t want to see me anymore... What I did was horri-”
- “Steve.” You cut him off and he looks at you with sadness and regret.
- You cup his face with both hands before smiling.
- “Thank you, Steve. Thank you for keeping me safe. For keeping us safe.” You grabbed Steve’s right hand before placing it back on your stomach.
- “You keep us safe… Thank you, Steve.” You see Steve’s eyes starting to water once more and you giggle before moving in, stopping just a few inches from his face.
- Your eyes flutter before you leaned closer, finally closing the distance and kissing him.
- You feel his hand moving from your stomach to your back to pull you closer and tighter to his body.
- “I love you, Y/N. I love you so fucking much.” He whispers through the kiss.
- “I’ll always keep you safe, Y/N. I will never hurt you anymore. I’ll be the best husband and father…” He whispers before lifting you up.
- “I’ll keep you safe.” He whispers one last time before carrying you back to your room. The room that you’ll be sharing with him soon. Actually, you wouldn’t even need that room because Steve will make sure to get a place where the two of you can be alone. The tower isn’t safe for you anymore. Only Steve can keep you safe.
- Steve celebrates in his mind as the mission went successfully. With Bucky helping him. With how they were able to drug Bruce’s coffee. Everything went perfectly. You fell right back into his arms.
- And Steve will keep his promise.
- He’ll keep you safe.
- He’ll keep his family safe.
undeserved happy ending for steve but what about it💀
Moment In Time
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Summary: Just when you've gotten out, you’re given a reason to come back.
Warnings: Mild Language
Chapter 8
* * * * * * *
There’s a small, skin toned bump under her eye. Another small, almost unnoticeable mark just above her lip.
Her eyes crinkle in the corners when she laughs and her cheeks pull up into perfect plum shapes.
Though the skin on her hands is soft and smooth, her palms are calloused a little. It leaves you wondering if it’s from all the times she’s held the cold metal of a gun in her hand, or wielded a knife that’s handle was too rough against her skin.
Still you notice, despite the initial roughness you pick up on when you see the scars on her skin or feel the callouses on her hands, that she’s utterly breathtaking.
Your favorite sight of her being when she smiles.
“Are you even paying attention to me?”
Refocusing on the words she’s saying instead of her looks, you raise your eyebrows.“ I’m sorry, I just-” you shake your head, glancing down at your cup of tea.“ I can’t get over how gorgeous you are.” You look back up, raising the cup to your lips and sipping.
Her mouth opens, ready for a reply, but closes immediately as she realizes she doesn’t have one. Unusually, she isn’t sure what to say.
Unlike every other person who’d complimented her, yours was truly genuine. You meant it when you said it and expected nothing from her in return.
She reaches across the table and takes your hand, squeezing it gently as a blush rises on here cheeks.“ Thank you.”
You smile sweetly at her, then lean forward a little, elbows and forearms pressing against the table.“ Okay I’m listening again, what’s up?”
“I don’t want the team to know.” She quickly says, eyes dropping from yours, a worried look on her face.“ About, whatever we are. I’m not embarrassed or-”
The way her smile drops instantly makes you frown. She rambles on and on, trying to explain her words to you.
Shaking your head, you reach forward and lift her head to meet her eyes.“ Nat, I appreciate it but I don’t need an explanation. Really, I want you to be completely comfortable with whatever this is.” She smiles at your words, her shoulders visibly sagging afterwards. Only for her body to tense as you utter a low ‘but’.
Brows furrowing, the redhead leans forward, her hand gripping yours.“ But what?”
“Does keeping things under wraps mean I can’t take you out on a date?” This time you smile brightly at her.
Natasha rolls her eyes, shoulders once again dropping as the corner of her lips tug up. Slowly, those green eyes look up into yours, a growingly familiar look in her eyes.“ That has nothing to do with keeping things secret and everything to do with where and when.”
Chuckling softly, you run your thumb along the back of her hand, keeping your gaze on her eyes.“ I’d like to take you to dinner Romanoff. It’s nothing fancy but retired SHIELD agents don’t get paid all that well.”
“Dinner sounds lovely.” She says, her smile maintained. Her lips part as she goes to say something else but her phone cuts her off. Glancing down at it for a moment then back up at you.“ A lot lovelier than training Pietro with Sam and Steve.”
“Oh Bird Boy got promoted to training people huh?” You joke, eliciting a laugh from her like you hoped it would.“ Well, I want to check in with Wanda anyway so I can take you to the compound.”
She playfully smirks, standing up as you do,“ got a sweet ride you’re gonna let me in?”
Rolling your eyes, you drop the money for your drinks and muffins on the table along with a tip. You then walk with her out of the cafe.
The two of you walk over to your car and you open the door for Natasha. She lowers herself into the passenger seat of the classic mustang you’d come here in, and you shut the door after her. Going around, you get into the driver's seat after the cars pass.
You can’t help but find it adorable how Natasha waits for you to put your seatbelt on and pull off before she reaches across the console to grab your hand.
She raises your hand and presses a soft kiss on the back of it, squeezing gently as she relaxes in her seat and looks out the window. A look of contentment washes over her face and you can’t help but be a little proud that you seem to be the cause of it, or have been for the last few days.
Your first kiss had taken place around a week or two ago. Over that course of time you’d shared more kisses than you were able to keep track of.
It seems as though that moment opened the floodgates to all the physical touch you and Natasha had been starving for. Along with every kiss came a number of touches. Nothing had gone beyond PG-13 and you were more than okay with that.
You were completely happy with the way Natasha would drape herself over your lap like it was nothing in the comfort of your apartment. The light ghosting of her fingers against your neck before they curl into the hairs at your nape. Or the shiver that runs down your body when her fingers brush across your leg. And of course, how her fingers would lace with yours when she nonchalantly grabs your hand.
Her affection warms your heart in the purest and most perfect way possible. Especially having known how she felt, and partly still feels, about that.
While she hadn’t gone into great detail about her past she told you enough plus what you already knew about the Black Widow and Red Room organization. You knew of the horrible things that happened to the young girls in the Red Room and had had more than one encounter with the women who trained there.
Knowing that and what she told you, shined an even brighter light on Natasha in your eyes. She’s strong, there’s no way you could ever say otherwise, but you severely underestimated how strong. Everything she’s been through that you’re aware of required the utmost of endurance and strength.
“Stop looking at me like that Y/ln. Your eyes need to stay on the road.” She says, voice slightly teasing.
Yeah, you’d subconsciously been looking over at the woman but you can’t really blame yourself. She’s beautiful in every conceivable way.
“Oh forgive me. My eyes are just attracted to a particularly beautiful redhead.” You say, a small smile thrown her way afterwards.
Her eyes roll, an action you notice she does a lot when receiving genuine compliments, and a snort falls from her lips as she chuckles. You aren’t sure how others would react to that but you kind of love it. Especially since it’s always followed by a blush.
The drive upstate continues with you being slightly less distracted by Natasha and her clicking through the radio stations. Which you find amusing since her musical tastes vary greatly.
Funnily enough, she can’t seem to find a station before you get to the compound. Right when she does though, you’re pulling up to the door.
An adorable pout forms on her face and her sad eyes look from the compound, to the radio, then to you. The radio host gets quieter and the song gets louder, the intro playing through. You know what she wants.
Sighing softly, you shake your head and shift gears. A look over at Natasha reveals her pleased face, as well as the image of Steve at the compound windows. His brows furrow as you pull off.
Quickly looking away from him, your eyes focus on the road. You don’t stay gone long, the song only lasts four minutes, enough time for you to head a little ways down the road from the compound security gate before it goes off.
The next song that plays isn’t Nat’s cup of tea so you turn around and head back. The agent at the gate gives you a slightly annoyed and curious look when you come back for the second time but you can’t say you care, not when your little drive put that smile on Nat’s face.
“You two here to stay this time?” Steve asks, arms crossing over his chest as blue eyes shift from you to Natasha.
Locking your doors, you pocket your keys and smile at him.“ Not sure Stevie, might steal her away in the middle of your training session and go for another drive.” You tease, cocking your eyebrow at him.
“Y/ln-” His voice is a warning that makes you want to laugh.
“Can’t say I’d be opposed to that.” Natasha says with a small smile, walking past Steve no doubt in route to one of the training rooms, she glances back at you with a small wink before she disappears around the corner.
It takes a bit of effort to fight a smile, but you manage. Then averting your eyes to Steve’s blue ones.“ Don’t worry, I won’t steal your partner. I hear Speedy is a handful.”
“Thank you.” His shoulders drop as he sighs softly. You can’t stop yourself from laughing at his response.
You both turn to head down the hallway.“ He can’t be that bad.” You say, almost as if challenging his reaction.
Steve gives you a look.“ He’s a good kid but a pain in the ass. And stubborn.” Shaking his head, he looks over again to see Pietro’s blue blur shoot by and disappear through the doors.“ Doesn’t listen for the most part.”
“I believe that.” You have to admit,“ Wanda was pretty stubborn when we started. Still is sometimes.” You shake your head and stop at the end of the hall.“ Her powers are incredible so she doesn’t believe she needs hand to hand combat.”
He nods along, sucking his teeth and sighing.“ They’re kids. We keep teaching them and eventually they’ll get it.”
“Yeah. They’ll get it. Gotta have patience.” With that said, you leave a final pat on Steve’s shoulder before you turn away and go in search of Wanda.
Surprisingly it’s pretty quiet. You assume Tony is out or down in the lab tinkering. With everyone else in the training room, you head to Wanda’s room, knowing it’s likely that’s where she is.
Once you’re there you raise your hand and knock, calling out,“ room service.” When her door swings open, you smile at her, matching the one on her face.“ Good afternoon little witch. How are you?”
“Hi,” she greets back, leaving the door open as she goes to pull a sweater on.“ I’m good, how're you?”
“Just dandy,” she laughs a little and steps out.“ Figured I’d stop by and see how you're settling in. If my guidance is working or if you’re just keeping an old gal like me entertained.”
“Oh please. You act younger than me sometimes.”
Your jaw drops, eyebrows pinching together.“ I do not. I’m a mature adult.”
The two of you make it to the common room, detouring to the kitchen. Wanda quirks an eyebrow at you as you sit at the island, the younger woman moving around to fix a cup of tea.
“Sure you are.” She drags the first word out sarcastically and you roll your eyes.“ You’ve got your childish moments Y/n.”
A disagreement is on the tip of your tongue, until you realize she’s right. Natasha tells you quite often how childish you can be, usually after you’d just thrown a pillow at her or shot the wrapper of a straw at her from across the island.
“Okay I’m a little childish sometimes.” You admit in defeat.
Wanda chuckles and nods.
The two of you chat as she finishes making her tea and once she’s done you move to the common room. Falling onto the couch, you flick through tv stations and continue to talk.
You’re more than happy to hear that she was no longer on the “I hate Tony Stark” train. She admits that there’s still strong dislike, but both she and Pietro had been learning more about Tony, seeing him for the man he truly is and not what the media portray.
With the young woman becoming a closer friend the more time goes on you feel better knowing she doesn’t hate the man who is family to you.
“Ooo I love this show.” She stops her statement to say, stopping on a sitcom about a family.
You quirk a brow,“ Malcolm in the Middle?” You ask and she nods.
That provokes the woman to explain why she loves the show.
Starting off, you listened to every word, adding words of agreement and a show that you’re attentive. Until Natasha comes in.
Attention instantly divided.
Eyes drawn to the way her eyes land on you the second she steps in, then down to the purposeful swish of her hips. She smirks, cocky that she so easily grabbed your attention, then turns into the kitchen with Steve and Sam.
Your heart, that started beating a little faster when she smirked, doesn’t calm down. Even after she’s no longer in sight. Instead it picks up a little more at the thought that pops up in your head, lingering front and center.
“Well if you love her so much you should tell her.”
Eyes wide, your head snaps over to Wanda. She gives you a nonchalant expression in return, only to quickly realize that you didn’t say that out loud.
“Oh. Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” the young woman sits up, eyes suddenly pleading.“ I wasn’t trying to but it was so loud I- I thought you actually said it.”
With a shake of your head, you chuckle. It’s a light, almost unbelieving sound.“ It’s fine Wan. Truly.” You gently pat her knee. A moment of silence passes.“ Was it really that loud?” You ask.
“Very.” Wanda says, laughing a little.“ Did you mean it in the way it sounded?” Her voice holds curiosity, making you look over at her.
“I-” Words cut short by a loud melodic laugh. Your gaze once again finds Natasha as you follow the sound. She leaves the kitchen, smiling at something Sam said.“ Yeah. I meant it. In that way.”
Yes, you love Natasha.
Admitting it makes it feel like it was obvious as hell. Everything you’d been feeling points to it. From the way her smile sent butterflies rumbling in your stomach to the way her touch seemed to light you on fire.
You won’t lie and say you aren’t scared by that. The two of you have just started exploring this aspect of your relationship and you’ve already started falling for her. And you already love her.
The surprise isn’t that you love her, with how strongly you’d felt about her already and the progression of things, you knew you were bound to fall for her. The surprise is that it happened so fast.
Part of you is worried, fearing that this revelation so soon could mess things up for you. However the other part of you, the bigger part, is telling you to just relax. Whatever is supposed to happen will happen. Natasha likes you and that’s more than enough.
what if...
the avengers met the multiversal trespassers & you were the assistant. crack fic. part 2. read part 1 here.
The initial briefing goes about as well as it can.
Clint is absolutely plastered from Dr. Banner's THC cookies and barely can string a sentence together much less offer any insight, the Peter trio abandons everybody in favour of pointing out the differences and similarities between themselves, Sam has to withstand Max's fanboying over him and The Falcon, Tony quietly converses with Dr. Octavius - or Doc Ock, as his Peter called him all the while Banner and Strange try to figure out a way to turn the Lizard back into a human man.
Steve and Bucky, while not giving you a direct reason for your headache, had done nothing but eat everything in sight since they got there. The good Captain doesn't even try to make sense of the situation, his jaw just keeps moving as he reads something on his tablet.
As usual, you get to do the dirty work. The newcomers' faces and other appendages have been plastered all over the social media; Twitter is blowing up, as usual when there is a superhero sighting, but it's not the argumentative 140-character posts you are worried about.
It's Tumblr. The inhabitants of the hellsite had gone absolutely mad over some grainy footage of Dr. Octavius and his four extra appendages: the fact that there's not enough pixels to even have a good look at his face didn't stop them. Within several hours of his initial appearance, fanart had appeared and some of it makes your cheeks heat as you hurry to lower the brightness of your screen.
"We should clear up the internet," Tony says offhandedly in your direction.
"Good luck with that," you scoff. "There's fanart already."
"Damn, they're quick," the engineer mutters, crossing his arms. "This lovely gentleman is from the year 2004 so he's got a lot to catch up on. I hoped we could start with Wikipedia or YouTube, you know," the warning in Tony's words is clear. Do not traumatise the old man.
Old Peter, however, had his own ideas. "Oh yeah, it's absolutely insane these days. I've seen some seriously questionable drawings of me."
Accompanied by baby spider's groan, Old Peter completely ignores Tony's rapidly widening eyes and subtle head movements begging him to shut up.
It seems like all Peters have a talking problem, because Middle Peter doesn't hesitate to add his own five cents: "Oh yeah, I was there for the great Tumblr ship wars. Almost didn't go patrolling one night because a few people were hell-bent on getting rescued by me just so they could accurately describe my... Abs."
"Interesting," Dr. Octavius remarks, a corner of his mouth tilting upwards in what you could only describe as pure mischief.
His face loses several decades of age thanks to that single gesture and you shudder, thinking of people's reaction when the internet Gremlins actually get a good at him in all his smouldering, tentacled glory. One crooked smirk and they're all going to be gone, lost in the desert of thirst for Doc Ock.
Of course, he notices you looking at him, his smirk growing into a toothy, teasing smile in an instant. "Don't worry, darling, I'll try my best to give you no trouble."
Tony's gaping like a fish, eyes darting between the two of you like he'd just witnessed a heinous crime right at the tip of his nose. You'd gotten immune to his antics ages ago, knowing that his flirting was nothing more than a conversational habit, but you had no doubt that Doc Ock's cheeky words are going to put Tony in an existential crisis in approximately twenty minutes.
Tony might have been a genius... Yet, his self-awareness was severely lacking.
You clear your throat, swiping away the tab with the drawings of agile, mechanical tentacles. "What's the plan, guys? I can't keep off the press for very long and the public relations department needs at least two hours to prepare a statement that will hold up to the masses."
Tony fiddles with the drawstrings of his hoodie. "We need to cure Dr. Connors and find two more of the stowaways."
You take note of the Lizard's government name, writing it down in your notes. "There's two more? Why aren't you out looking?"
Tony sighs and you feel dread slowly creep up your spine.
"One of them is man made of sand. Don't ask me, I've no clue how that works," the engineer raises his hands before you can even get a word in. "The other one is an incredibly intelligent, violent psychopath."
You carefully consider your options, weighing in the innate instinct to rip out your hair and scream against the logical solution to the current predicament. You're incredibly good at your job, so common sense wins. Nearly effortlessly.
"I'll get the PR guys," you sigh, before turning to the newcomers. "If you need anything - and I mean anything, clothes, a phone, food - just ask FRIDAY and she will relay it to me. I'll do my best to deliver quickly."
"Friday?" You hear Dr. Octavius ask, and Tony is immediately sidetracked, preoccupied with talking all about his cool AI, jealousy over his assistant long forgotten. To give credit where it due, Doc Ock himself looks like all his Christmases just came to be.
In about an hour, you finally get your hands on some food, after sending a small army of interns to get the multiversal trespassers their necessities. The PR department is already mid-way through cooking up a half decent cover-up and the crazy Lizard-man is not causing you any more grief, safely locked away in Bruce's hulk-out room. Your chest finally feels relaxed enough to fit in the appropriate amount of oxygen in it.
Suddenly, an explosion shakes the floor under you. You jump up, in alarm, your fried noodles flying all over your desk, and look at the city below, searching for the source of the small but strong earthquake.
"Ma'am, Sir kindly requests you not be alarmed. The explosion was due to an equipment malfunction." FRIDAY'S voice sounds almost apologetic.
"Is Dr. Octavius with him?" You rub your temple, knowing where this is going and refusing to accept it anyway.
"Yes, ma'am," FRIDAY's tone changes to near glee. "They just refurbished codes to Dr. Octavius' AI and now are attempting to make the actuators fully retractable. They have both agreed that their current state is unsatisfactory, considering the opportunities this universe provides."
Shaking off several soggy noodles off your shirt, you put a spring to your step as you huff and march towards Tony's private lab. "I'll show you two something unsatisfactory..."
Captive
Chapter 12 - “Deserving”
SUMMARY: You were held captive by Hydra for years and had only just escaped when the Avengers find you. You’re beyond terrified of everyone and everything around you, but the thing the terrifies you the most is yourself. The things you can do with your abilities are beyond what anyone could possibly imagine.
Chapters: 1 ~ 2 ~ 3 ~ 4 ~ 5 ~ 6 ~ 7 ~ 8 ~ 9a ~ 9b ~ 10 ~ 11
AN: Christmas in May, anyone? Sorry this took so long, I just graduated from college! Also, I posted before and asked if you guys prefer to read fics on Wattpad or AO3, and I would love to have your input on that! I am trying to figure out which one I should post my fics on!
Word Count: Around 5000
Warnings: Mention of abuse and fluffy fluff
You tugged Bucky’s large shirt farther down your legs, tip-toeing down the hall before dawn. It would be Christmas in just a few hours and you had to make sure everything was perfect for the team. You had gotten a little creative with your presents, seeing as you didn’t have money of your own and didn’t know much about earning it. You were thankful that most of the team had hobbies of their own and made it much easier for you to find the supplies you needed to make homemade gifts. You worked very hard on their gifts.
Being what Bucky called “gifted,” you could feel the change in energy in each and every one of your friends. They rarely slept, but when they did, they were so exhausted that their eyes felt heavier than any weights they had lifted that day. And usually their nights were filled with restlessness, tossing and turning, and fighting the covers that were hands in their dreams. Their energy took on a light glow while they slept, one that pulsed with every beat of their heart. Their dreams sometimes became more and more unbearable, as those imaginary hands became their own and they were grasping the neck of another person. Uncontainable, unmanageable guilt became the burden of the night. And you only knew that because that’s what kept you awake; it’s also what kept Bucky awake.
“Everyone has their own shit.” He told you after waking up with a start one night, drenched in sweat. It was usually him comforting you, but this time it was the other way around. He was embarrassed; his dreams made him feel weak and powerless. That’s why you had chosen a dream catcher for him; it would catch those dreams and spirits that kept him awake.
You had been preparing for this for quite some time now, hiding the supplies you needed in your room, under your bed. You glanced at the newly decorated Christmas tree and smiled. When you were younger, your mom would decorate the whole house with you, and it was one of your favorite things in the world. She could be so kind and loving when she wanted. You smiled at one of the few good memories you had, especially ones with her. While she may have been cruel to you at times, she also had her fun moments. That’s what made hating her or resenting her so difficult.
While you were being held by Hydra, those were the moments that you thought about most. They are the things you dreamed of experiencing again. This just added even more complicated thoughts to your already spinning mind while you were with those evil men… to leave one abusive home for another.
You shook your head to rid yourself of those thoughts. You had work to do. The team was in for a treat. You had been preparing and practicing, not only for the decorations, but for another special surprise. You wouldn’t be able to do it for long, so the timing had to be perfect.
“Friday,” you whispered, “what time does everyone typically wake up?”
She ran through everyone’s schedules quickly and you nodded.
“How many of them use alarm clocks?” You asked, praying that she would say all of them.
“Sam.”
You cringed at that answer. “Alright, I’ll think of something…” You made quick work of the decorations, running as quietly as you could from one room to another. When you finished, you stepped back to admire your work.
Paper snowflakes hung from all over the ceiling, the tree was packed with colorful or shiny items, a copious amount of cotton balls had been stretched and torn to look like snow in various places around the tower, Christmas lights hung, and paper trees placed on shelves and tables. You grinned. It was so pretty. You began to jump on your heels slightly, excited for everyone to be awake. You had about two hours to finish up before they all started stirring. All you had to do was put the finishing touches on their gifts and place them under the tree.
You sprinted to your room, sweating from the amount of effort this was taking. You froze when you felt Natasha stir in her bed. She was the one you were most worried about waking. If she even felt a slight disturbance, she would immediately be out of bed to find out what was happening. You squeezed your eyes shut, focusing on her energy. You willed her to stay asleep, praying that she hadn’t heard you. You felt her relax, and your heart eased its rapid beating.
You gathered as many of their gifts as you could in your hands and brought them out by the tree. You rushed to place them under the tree nicely. You had begun to feel some of them awaken and you rushed to turn the Christmas lights on. You added last minute touches to the decorations, and finally you asked Friday to play Christmas music.
You felt Bucky begin to stir then. Your heart began to beat a little faster in your chest with nervous excitement. You couldn’t wait to see their reactions, but you were nervous that they wouldn’t like it. You hoped this would be enough. You wanted to make your first Christmas with them special. You wanted them to know that you were beginning to feel comfortable and loved when you were with them.
“Friday, can you turn the volume up please?” You asked quietly, toes wiggling in your worn slippers. Natasha was the first one out of bed, followed by Steve and Bucky. You could feel them move from their beds and see their energy begin to pulse a little brighter. You were grinning as you felt Tony begin to stir.
When you felt them all leave their rooms, you were nearly exploding with excitement. They were making their way toward the common area, most likely heading for the kitchen for breakfast and coffee. Bucky was falling a little behind the rest, and you were quick to send more energy toward him.
When they had all finally made their way down the hall and into the common area, you were quick to grin at them, “Merry Christmas!”
Their eyes were wide with shock as they took in the decorations and lights. Steve’s smile was growing and Natasha was leaning against the door frame with a small smirk on her lips. Bucky was staring at the ceiling, a look of amazement on his face.
“When did you do all of this?” Steve asked, hand running over the snow you had made from cotton balls.
“Last night! Do you like it?” You asked, feeling breathless.
“This is so pretty, (Y/N)!” Wanda exclaimed, pulling you in for a hug.
“Just promise me you’re gonna clean all this up when Christmas is over,” Tony stated dramatically. He suddenly seemed to notice the tree, “Gifts, huh?”
Sam elbowed him hard, silently telling him to shut up. He gestured in your direction. You were grinning so wide your cheeks hurt. You pulled away from Wanda, hopping on the balls of your feet a bit. You threw yourself into Bucky’s arms and hugged him tightly, barely able to contain your excitement. “Yes, um- I have gifts for you all, but do you want to eat first?” You clasped your hands in front of you and hopped in front of the kitchen, knowing that they would all want their morning coffee.
“I could use some coffee,” Natasha smiled. She wrapped her arm around your shoulders, “Merry Christmas. You did an amazing job.”
“Did you happen to make breakfast? That would have been nice instead of you making a mess,” Tony asked in his typical tone, sauntering into the kitchen. You just rolled your eyes, sticking your tongue out at him. The rest of the team followed, leaving you and Bucky behind.
You turned to look at Bucky, meeting his unwavering gaze. “Merry Christmas,” you breathed, you tucked your hair behind your ear. “Do you like it?”
He made his way toward you slowly, tilting your head with his finger, his lips lingered against your forehead, “You are amazing…”
Once everyone had eaten, you were all gathered in the common area. Christmas movies were playing on the large screen, but the volume was low as you all talked happily with one another. You were seated on the floor between Wanda and Bucky’s legs. Natasha sat on the floor across from you. Steve was laughing about something Sam had said, fingers playing with one of the toy motorcycles hanging on the tree. Sam was seated on the arm of the loveseat that Tony had sprawled out in. You looked at each of them, a content smile on your face.
This was the first time since you were young that you had felt accepted. There would always be worms of doubt in your head, but for now, they were under control. They were not slinking their way into the moment. Your fingers brushed against Bucky’s calf and he looked down at you, only to find you grinning up at him. He leaned down to kiss your forehead.
There was wrapping paper and bows sprawled across the floor from their gifts. You had loved watching their eyes light up with warmth and happiness, and you felt a little bit of the weight you carried on your shoulders fall away. Natasha was wiggling her fingers in the mittens you made her, which made you smile and giggle.
“When I go to visit Clint, I’ll bring them the gifts,” she had told you when you pointed out that you made him and his family gifts as well.
“He said he wants to FaceTime later, so he can see them then.” Wanda interjected, smiling mischievously. They all had their own plans and gifts for you as well, but you had no idea.
You didn’t seem to care about receiving anything at all. “I made Thor something as well, but he will have to wait,” you giggled, thinking about how excited he would be to get the tiny hammer you had painted to look like mjolnir.
“So what you’re saying is that you stole from me.” Tony said sarcastically.
“Didn’t steal, I just borrowed... in a sense.” You giggled.
The team revealed that they hadn’t received a handmade gift in years and that they loved them. Each of them was playing with their gifts or wearing them. A moment of silence wrapped around everyone as they peered down at their gifts.
“I know it’s not much, and you’re all probably used to nicer things, but I hope you like them.” You said, sheepishly peering at your acquired family.
“We love them!” Wanda assured you.
“These are so much better than any gifts you could have bought us, (Y/N).” Natasha nodded.
“Even though you stole most of the stuff that you used,” Tony said, pulling his glasses down slightly, you did good, kid.”
“Good,” you breathed a sigh of relief. You stood up slowly, pulling the ends of your shirt nervously, “I have one more surprise for you all.”
You carefully made your way to the doorway, standing behind the couch that Bucky and Wanda were sitting on. Everyone was watching you with questioning eyes, wondering what else you could have possibly made for them. “It might take a try or two, but I have been practicing this since my little incident a few weeks ago.” You admitted timidly.
Your heart was thudding hard in your chest, nerves making their way up your throat. You took a deep breath to steady yourself, and closed your eyes. You pictured gold, soft and twinkling, dancing in the sky. You imagined a gentle, gold glow and shimmers of it. You slowly opened your eyes. The team was staring upward, mouths agape and eyes awed. Tony pulled his glasses from his face, mouth open in amazement.
A golden, glowing river flowed above them. Shimmers and flecks of gold rained down slowly, twinkling brightly. Your typical ribbons were moving slowly, wrapping themselves into loose coils. You pushed yourself a little harder, motivated by the childlike wonder on your family’s faces. You conjured up tiny horses and faceless people, some ice skating, others dancing or playing in the golden snow in the space above your heads.
“Wow,” you heard Steve whisper in amazement. You smiled, watching the team closely with their soft and content faces. You loved making others happy. Your eyes flickered over to Bucky, and one of the ice skaters made their way to him. They spun gracefully in front of his nose. His smile was unforgettable.
But soon, you could feel your energy dimming, so you gave one last push. The gold above burst silently into thousands of golden flecks, hanging in the air for a second, and then lazily falling down onto the team. Sweat had collected on your upper lip from the amount of effort it took, and finally, you felt your energy give way.
The gold came flying back into your chest. You blew out a breath, hands shaking with exhaustion. The team looked over at you, smiles still on their faces. Subconsciously, you were aware that they didn’t look scared of your white eyes. You were smiling at them, proud of yourself for succeeding. You accomplished more than you thought you would have. Even if it was only for a minute or two, you had held it longer and made more images at one time than you ever had before.
“That was the coolest thing I have ever seen,” Sam muttered, mostly to himself, but the team was nodding in agreement.
“The little snowballs?” Steve asked, leaning over to him.
“The coolest!” Sam exclaimed.
You gave an airy laugh, feeling a little lightheaded. Bucky was at your side immediately, leading you to the couch.
“That was pretty badass, goldy locks! I thought you could only do that when you were scared!” Tony declared, looking a little stunned.
“I’ve been practicing in my room… far away from people, so…” you laughed lightly. Natasha was still looking upward, a dreamy look in her eyes. Her face was relaxed, in a faraway place. Wanda grasped your arm with excitement,
“Can you show me how to do that? I’ve never made images with mine!”
You giggled weakly, “I can try. I’m not quite sure how I do it, I just picture it in my head.”
“That was amazing, Doll,” Bucky whispered, lips grazing your ear.
“Thank you,” you sighed, snuggling deeper into the couch next to him.
“You’re amazing, you know that?” He said quietly, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. You hummed happily in response, a tired smile on your lips. “That didn’t hurt you?” He asked quietly. The others were still talking about their favorite parts of your show.
You shook your head, taking a deep breath and continuing, “It did in the beginning, but after a while the pain just… went away.”
He nodded, kissing your temple, “Take a nap. We will be here when you wake up.” And as you started to doze off, you heard Bucky laugh and say, “But did you see the ice skater in front of my face?”
~
“Wake her up; I can’t wait any longer to give her our gifts!” You heard Wanda exclaim.
You suddenly felt cold, metallic fingers glide over your cheek, and your eyes fluttered. “Good morning, sleepyhead!” Sam exclaimed, sitting opposite of you behind the coffee table. The coffee table had gifts strewn all over it and your eyes widened slightly.
You looked around the room in question, “Those… are those for me?”
Steve tilted his head, while Natasha nodded at you, a soft smile gracing her face. Bucky was grinning widely beside you.
“You didn’t have to do this,” you whispered, shaking your head in disbelief, nervously tucking your hair behind your ear.
“Open mine first; you’re going to like it more than the others!” Tony teased, throwing a wink your way.
Natasha rolled her eyes at Tony, “We wanted to do this, trust me.”
“The bigger one is mine,” Tony pushed, ignoring the sappy moment you were having. You laughed and proceeded to open the array of gifts around you. You were surprised with each one, not expecting such generosity from them. Tony had gotten you a laptop and a phone because you “were behind the times.” Wanda had given you a gift card to a clothing boutique downtown, saying that she was going to take you shopping before the New Years party; this excited and terrified you at the same time. Natasha bought you adorable cow slippers after finding out that your favorite animals were cows. You immediately put them on and were repeatedly wiggling your toes in them. Steve and Sam gave you yellow boxing gloves and said that the matching punching bag was in the training room—it was even bedazzled at the bottom.
You couldn’t stop smiling. In fact, your face hurt from smiling and laughing so much.
“Clint’s calling!” Wanda exclaimed, placing her phone on the coffee table. She pressed the green button and up popped his face.
“That is so cool,” you whispered to Bucky, amazed at how quickly technology has changed.
“Gets me everytime,” he whispered back, planting a kiss on your cheek.
“Merry Christmas, everyone!” Clint exclaimed, his wife and children popping up to say hi. You grinned and waved back. “Hope I didn’t miss anything,” Clint said.
“Just in time,” Wanda assured him.
“Clint,” you started softly, “I made you and your family gifts; they’re not much, but—“
“They’re amazing, look!” Natasha interrupted you, turning the phone to show him the gifts you had made them.
“They’re gonna love the bears!” You heard Clint’s wife exclaim. “Thank you, (Y/N), we love them!”
“My turn to give you something though.” Clint said, and Natasha placed the phone back to face you. Everyone began to smile softly, knowing that Clint had worked hard to pull this one off. “After hearing about your grades and that you didn’t get to go to graduation, I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” he explained, fiddling with his phone. Tony was quick to pull out his own and began swiping. You chewed the inside of your cheek, nerves growing as he continued to talk, “You worked so hard to fit in and I know that’s not easy, so I wanted to do this for you.” Tony swiped one last time, and an image of a high school diploma popped up above your head.
Your eyebrows drew together as you read the name of your school and a loud gasp burst through your lips. “That says my name!” You exclaimed, standing up to read it closely.
“I talked to your school and the school board, and had some people pull some strings,” Clint explained.
“It’s me. I’m some people,” Tony smiled cockily.
You covered your mouth in shock as you read your name over and over again. “You deserved this and so much more, kid,” Clint said softly. When he had heard what your mother did and that your chance to graduate was ripped from you as a teenager, he knew he had to do this for you. He pictured his own kids, and how proud he would be if they had achieved what you had. He had to do this for you.
Your bottom lip began to wobble, and you took a deep breath to keep them from falling.“I can’t begin to explain how much this means to me,” you whispered, voice cracking, “thank you so much.”
Clint smiled at you and his wife hugged him closer. She knew how much this meant to him and had helped him talk to your school board.
“I wish you were here so that I could hug you,” you laughed lightly, wiping away the stray tears that fell.
“You’ll see me soon, kid!” He laughed, loving that you were looking so happy.
“We have one more gift for you,” Steve said softly, “We’ve all talked it over, and decided that we think you’re ready.” Wanda grabbed your hand and smiled brightly at you, pulling you to sit back down next to her. You really couldn’t think of anything better than the gifts you had received so far.
“We are going to wait until after Tony’s New Years Eve party, but we think we should take you back to your hometown for a weekend.” The tears were immediate and fast paced. You buried your face in the sleeves of Bucky’s sweatshirt in an attempt to hide them.
“It’s up to you if you want to go, but we think you should visit,” Natasha whispered, pressing a comforting hand to your knee.
“I-I’m a li-little overwhelmed,” you blubbered, with a loud laugh. The team was quick to respond with their own quiet laughter. “I w-wanna show you guys my favorite book store!” You giggled, and this made them all laugh a little louder, “thank you all so much, I wish I could repay you for everything, for saving me… I just- I promise I will!”
“Aw, goldy locks!” Tony exclaimed, “I’ll take you up on that one day! For now, just try not to stab any of us with those gold things!”
You ripped your hands from your face to see that your fingertips were glowing brightly. Your eyes widened at the realization that your chest didn’t hurt. You held your hand out, watching as it shook with your emotions, but not with pain or agony. “It doesn’t hurt,” you whispered, sounding amazed.
“What?” Bucky asked you, leaning closer to hear what you had said.
“It doesn’t hurt… I didn’t know I was doing it and it didn’t hurt,” you stated, looking at him with wide eyes. You looked back at your hands, holding both of them out in front of you, pressing your energy forward slightly, testing the waters. Ribbons wrapped themselves around your fingers, moving slowly, looking like snakes as they made their way to the ground. You were so overwhelmed with emotions—joy, relief, happiness, disbelief— were you finally free from the agony? What had changed? Was it that you finally felt loved? Your lips twitched with a shaky smile. Bucky made eye contact with Steve, and the two of them were so proud of how far you had come in the short, few months you had been with them.
Careful, that evil voice spoke in the back of your head, don’t get too cocky now. You don’t want to lose control.
You gasped, letting out a quiet yelp. Your energy shot violently back into your body and you wheezed at the suddenness of it all.
“Whoa,” Bucky cooed, grasping your shoulders to steady you, “you’re alright, you’re fine.”
“S-sorry,” you stuttered breathlessly, “I got nervous.”
“You’ve pushed yourself quite a bit today,” Wanda assured you softly, after peeking inside your thoughts for a split second.
You sat back into Bucky’s chest, nodding absentmindedly.
“Yeah, I think that’s enough of the golden light show,” Tony stated, grasping Wanda’s phone, “not that we don’t love to see what you can do because what you did earlier was amazing, and Barton missed it all!” He pointed and laughed sarcastically.
“It was pretty cool, Barton!” Natasha agreed, smirking at the phone.
“What? What did I miss?” He cried, making you giggle and shake your head at their teasing.
~
After the team had opened all their gifts and dispersed to relax or prepare for the night ahead, you were left alone with Bucky.
“Hey, Doll,” he cooed against your forehead, loving the sleepy look on your face. You hummed a response. Your head was buried in his chest, breathing in his comforting smell. His body was humming with soft energy, causing you to relax even deeper into his side. “I got you a gift,” he whispered.
You looked up at him, secretly reveling in the fact that he remembered to get you something. You were a little disappointed earlier when you hadn’t received anything from him, of all people. Not that it was about the gift, but the thought behind it. You had believed, for just a moment, that he had forgotten to get you something.
“Oh, yeah?” You grinned, inching closer to his face. He grinned right back before reaching behind the couch and pulling out a small box. “Oh, Bucky, no…” you pouted, knowing full well that it was jewelry, based on the box alone.
“Just open it,” he chuckled, pushing it into your hands.
“I can’t accept this,” you objected weakly, smiling at him as you pushed it back at him.
“You haven’t even opened it yet!” He laughed, removing his hands completely from the box to force you to catch it.
You bit the inside of your cheek nervously as you lifted the lid of the box to reveal a garnet ring. It was encased in a gold cage and placed nicely on top of a golden band. You looked up at him with pure bliss. “It’s a garnet,” you whispered happily, fingers running over the gem.
“It is,” he nodded, moving your hair away from your neck, “I- um- I did a lot of research and garnets are known as the stone of courage, and they are worn to guard against danger… and they are also supposed to help with the - um- heart and blood and stuff… Plus, I wanted to get you your own ring, so that you wouldn’t have to keep borrowing Wanda’s.” He was mumbling nervously now, unsure about his gift now that it was being opened.
You grinned up at him, “I love it, Bucky, thank you. This is too much.”
A sigh of relief whooshed past his lips, but he was quick to replace it with his mock confidence. You adored that he had put so much thought into it for you, knowing that it was no coincidence that it was this particular stone. “I hope you don’t think it’s weird that I got you something so…” he mumbled again, watching as you removed Wanda’s ring from your small finger, and replaced it with his.
“No,” you shook your head, “I don’t think it’s weird. I actually think it’s very sweet.”
The two of you fell into a tense silence, and you both found that nerves had settled in your stomachs. You bit your lip and glanced at Bucky quickly. His eyebrows were scrunched together in concentration. His eyes looked far away. You tilted your head to the side, looking at him curiously.
“You okay?” You asked quietly, unsure what was happening.
“Yeah...yes, I just have to do something,” he rushed out, startling you.
His hands were quick to encase your face.
He pulled you forward in one motion, and his lips found yours. You jumped instinctively, but as soon as your brain caught up with your body, your lips were moving in perfect sync with his. His hands found their way to the back of your head, tangling his fingers at your roots. Your shaky hands were taking their time to find his bearded face, and you sighed into his mouth.
You couldn’t even bring yourself to remember how many times you had imagined this moment with him, but every time you had, you pictured yourself being a nervous mess. This time, though, you found yourself more comforted by his lips than anything. You hadn’t realized how badly you needed this from him. He pulled away slowly, resting his forehead against yours as you both caught your breath.
“I have been wanting to do that for so long,” He whispered, lips grazing your nose. You hummed, eyes still closed. There was a sense of comfort that you had never experienced before, and while your heart raced in your ears, it wasn’t from fear, but from excitement. “I hope that was okay,” He whispered, his metal hand moving the strand of hair that fell in your face.
You nodded, eyes fluttering open to look at him, “It was more than okay.”
This was a first for you. A first of feeling this heart wrenching excitement, and your first kiss. You didn’t know if you should tell him, but before you could stop yourself, you pressed another kiss to his lips. “That was my, um— that was my first...“
Bucky’s eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as he looked over your features. His eyes suddenly went wide, “That was your first kiss?” He grabbed your tiny hands in his.
The side of your mouth quirked, and you shyly looked down at your joined hands, nodding.
“Oh, baby,” He murmured, pulling you closer to him. You couldn’t tell if there was pity or admiration in his eyes, but you couldn’t get yourself to feel anything other than overwhelming elation. “I can’t wait to show you how much more there is to life than the inside of a cell… if you let me…”
You smiled up at him, big and wide. You couldn’t wait either.
Devil In The Details
I had fun writing this I’m not sure it’s what you really wanted tho...I’m not sure if I’m gonna write the reader part yet tho idk is that something everybody would want? A reader who doesn’t like the sand? Cuz someone gave me an idea for it...*cough my wife *cough* hahaha Idk after reading this tell me if you want a reader part and if so I’ll write it!
Summary: REQUEST. Loki hates the sand and after a nasty prank you decide to exploit this small detail.
“I can’t wait, Loki! You’ll love the beach!” You smile at Loki who gives you a smile back. You don’t miss how his smile is stretched thin. He hides his feelings really well but not from you. You can read him like an open book and while you know it disturbs Loki that you can, you still have pride about it.
You know Loki is going to hate the beach. You’ve noticed that when he eats he can’t stand having crumbs on his hands and constantly wipes them on his napkin and tries to do everything in order to not eat with his hands. After a particular mission involving Sandman Loki had taken an hour-long shower and wouldn’t let you touch him until you yourself had washed away all the sand as well. He has this small thing about crumbs, or sand, or any small particles, that you plan to exploit. You want revenge.
Loki had pulled a prank the other day and it had involved you. You had been hanging out with Natasha and Wanda when Loki had come up and kissed your cheek. He pulled back, his hands grabbed your hair, and you heard a snip of scissors. You sat there frozen watching Natasha and Wanda’s reaction. They both looked behind you at Loki with wide eyes.
Loki isn’t stupid. He knows you take a lot of pride in having long, beautiful hair. He couldn’t have missed that when it rains you’re more worried about your hair getting wet than yourself. He couldn’t have missed that you’re constantly running your hands through your hair to make sure it’s perfect at all times.
Loki isn’t stupid.
At least, not often.
You stand to full height and turn to Loki slowly. You can feel your face fill with fury as you look at Loki who stands there, holding your beautiful locks, with a sly smirk on his stupid lips.
“Run.” You grind out. Loki is quick to turn and start running and when you start to chase him he actually starts laughing. The gall of this man. “Loki, I’m literally going to kill you!”
Loki makes a turn and races for the door that leads to the stairs, your lock of hair waving in his hands with furious movement as he runs. “If you catch me!” He throws over his shoulder while laughing.
You both reach the stairwell and Loki runs down the stairs, landing on the common area floor, and he throws the door open with wild strength so it stays open long enough for you to throw yourself into the room behind him. You reach out a hand and grasp his shirt in your fingers but he pulls forwards and the shirt slips from your grasp.
“Loki!” You yell enraged. He answers with a snicker.
The dead man running sees Steve and Tony standing close and talking so he pushes in between them. You follow, shoving Steve with a small sorry. Loki runs into the dining room and you both stop running, staring each other down from across the big table.
“Darling, listen-” Loki starts holding out his hands in a placating way. You growl as you watch your beautiful hair wave in his hands, causing the opposite reaction Loki was going for. He notices what’s going on and magics your hair away.
“Listen-”
“What’s going on?” Tony asks as he rushes into the room behind you with a concerned look on his face. He probably noticed how your face had murder written on it.
“I’m going to kill Loki, that’s what’s going on.” You move to the right but Loki moves to the left of the table to keep a good distance from you.
“If you would listen-”
“What did he do?” Tony asks over Loki’s response. Steve walks into the room and sees the tension. He moves towards Loki. You assume it’s because he’s trying to protect Loki from you. Smart man.
“He cut my hair.” You growl out, glancing at Tony whose eyes become comically large.
“Loki, I thought you were smart. That was a stupid move, really stupid, like, I can hear the wind whistling through your ears bud. ” Tony tells the god who rolls his eyes.
“If any of you would listen to me-” Loki is cut off when you yell and jump the table to slam him to the wall. Steve is quick to grab you around the waist and pull you from Loki. Your strength is no match for a super soldier’s strength. That doesn’t stop you from fighting Steve’s hold though.
“I did not cut your hair!” Loki yells, pushing from the wall and holding his hands out again.
You look over his face and calm yourself. “Steve, did he cut my hair?” You ask the man holding you, not trusting Loki. Steve still holds you but holds you at arms length so he may examine your hair.
“Uh, there’s-” He starts but Loki waves his hand at you. “Oh.” Steve exclaims, shocked. You feel one of his hands come to your hair and caress at the locks. “No, your hair is fine.” He finally concludes.
You close your eyes and take a deep breath through your nose. The tears that come can’t be fought.
“Darling-” Loki says in a sorrowful voice as he reaches for you. You shake your head, jerking from Loki so he can’t touch you. You pull from Steve’s grip so you may leave and cry in peace. You know it’s just hair and maybe it’s stupid to cry about but you had really felt true fear that he had messed with it.
It’s a whole day before you let Loki approach you again. By this time you’ve already made plans for revenge.
When you arrive at the beach you don’t miss the grimace Loki gives as he looks at the sand. He wipes it off his face when you fully turn to him though.
“Find us a spot and I’ll get all of our stuff.” Loki tells you when you both get out of the car. You let him have this small time to mentally prepare himself for the torture you’ve prepared for him. You make your way down to the beach and find an open spot to set up that has an umbrella to protect you both from the sun. Loki is slow-going to make his way towards you. You watch as he really tries to not wince every step he takes in the sand. You kind of hope sand makes its way into his shoes.
He quickly sets two towels down under your picked spot then watches as you undress to your swim suit under your clothes. When you bend over to take your shorts off you hear Loki give a sigh and start undressing.
Good, you can’t help but think.
When you’re undressed you glance at the bar nearby. “I’ll go get us some drinks.” You state, grabbing your wallet and leaving Loki. When you reach the bar you order your usual drink and Loki’s favorite when he’s having a rough day, gin and tonic. You order and turn to watch Loki.
Loki stands there under the umbrella glaring at the towel on the ground as if it might actually bite him if he lies on it. You chuckle under your breath. You then watch him shake his head and sit on the towel with hesitance. He sits with his knees drawn up as if trying to minimize how much of his body touches the sand that no doubt got on his towel.
The bartender brings your drinks over and you pay him. You’re quick to come back to Loki and hand him his drink. When he takes a sip he sighs and thanks you in a grateful tone.
You sit on your towel and give him a smile as you sip on your own drink. “So, I was thinking, have you ever built a sand castle?” You ask with a raised eyebrow at your uncomfortable lover.
Loki looks over to you with a look of dread that he is quick to hide, just not quick enough for your keen eyes. “No. Isn’t that an activity for children?” He asks, trying to deter your plans passive aggressively.
You shrug and give an embarrassed smile. “It is...I just-” You cut yourself off to make your acting more dramatic, “Never mind.” You babble out and look away from Loki to the crashing waves and open water.
You can tell Loki doesn’t take his eyes off of you as he wages war in his mind.
“Perhaps you could show me how to do it, I’ve never tried.” He tells you with open honesty.
You look over to Loki with soft eyes. This man was truly in love with you if he’s willing to build a sandcastle with you. It’s nearly enough to make you stop your plan of torture.
Nearly.
You nod at him. “After our drinks I’ll show you!” You say in an excited voice, your body slightly jumping in place like an overexcited child. Loki loses his look of distress for a second as he lovingly smiles at you.
You set your drink aside and lay down on your towel. Your hands come to clasp over your stomach. You don’t outright look at Loki but you watch from your peripheral. He looks at you with apprehension.
Loki sets his drink near yours between the towels in the sand and looks out towards the water. You hold back a snicker as he closes his eyes and takes a few deep breaths. He slowly lowers himself to lay on his back. He lays there really tense for a few seconds before he forcibly relaxes.
You get a good idea and smirk to yourself.
“Sweetheart, you seem tense, do you want a back massage?” You ask Loki who looks at you with wide eyes.
“I-um…” He responds.
You sit up and tap on his arm, telling him to turn over. Loki follows your prompt and turns onto his stomach. You straddle his hips and run your hands down his back. He shivers, probably because you had let your hands touch the sand before you dragged them down his bare back.
Without Loki watching you, you let out a wicked smile.
You work your hands into his built up knots. “What made you so tense?” You ask as you dig into one of the knots and Loki groans. He turns his head to the side so he can partially see you from his peripheral vision. “Probably the fact that I made you cry.” The god lies with ease.
You hum. “You won’t ever touch my hair for a prank again, will you?”
Loki chuckles. “Never.”
“Lesson learned then.” You shake your head with a smile. You knead your knuckles into a particularly nasty knot and Loki hisses, his body tenses up, and his hands come to rest on each side of him. His fingers twitch like they want to dig into the ground but he remembers it’s sand.
When you get that knot worked out Loki relaxes under you again.
“I truly am sorry, darling. I did not know how much you valued your hair otherwise I would not have done that prank.” Loki apologizes again. He had apologized the second you let him talk to you again after the prank. And again right before you both went to bed too.
“I know.”
“Do you? I cannot help but feel as if you do not believe my words.”
You sigh and get off of Loki and sit on your towel. Loki is quick to sit up again, looking at you. His hands rub across his chest so the sand that was stuck now falls off him.
You grab your drink so your hands have something to do. You look at the sand and think about what you want to say. Loki patiently waits.
“I know you’re sorry, I know you won’t ever do it again I just-” You let your eyes trail from the sand to the waves. “I’m still hurt about it. I know that’s unreasonable I just...I don’t know, I mean I know it wasn’t anything personal.” You let your feet toe at the towel's edges. When you look over to Loki he is looking at the sand in thought, his fingers fiddle with the drawstrings on his bathing suit. He takes a few seconds before he looks up to your eyes.
“What may I do to make this up to you?” He asks you with raw seriousness.
You slightly raise your drink. “Finish your drink so we can make a sandcastle.”
Loki takes the hint that you don’t want to talk about this subject anymore and picks up his drink.
“As you wish.” He says, knocking his drink with yours in a small cheer.
You both finish your drinks in a comfortable silence, watching people run past and children splash in the shallow waves.
Loki finishes his drink first, you follow not long after.
“Sun screen!” You say, digging in your beach bag and pulling out a SPF 100 bottle. Loki helps you with your back and you his. You grab the plastic sandcastle bucket from your bag then the both of you are crawling from under the umbrella into the sunlight towards the wet sand.
You hand Loki the bucket mold. “Fill it with the wet sand and compact it.” Loki does as you tell him. You’re impressed when he digs a hand deep into the wet sand and doesn’t even flinch. When he fills the bucket up and compacts it you bring him to the dry sand and he understands what to do. He sets the bucket on the sand and lightly taps at the plastic so the sand will come out without sticking to the bucket.
You appreciate the view. Loki is on his knees in the sand, he worries over the bucket with a focused look on his face. His chest glistens from the sunscreen he put on and there is a slight blush that crosses his chest under the sunlight. The solid green swim trunks make his pale skin glow. He muscled legs stretching and flexing as he moves around the bucket.
Loki slowly lifts the bucket and a perfect castle sits in the sand. He is quick to smile back at you, satisfied with his work. It’s enough to make you fall deeper in love with the man.
He quickly stands and comes to your side. “Shall we make it bigger?” He asks you with giddy excitement. You let out a small laugh and nod.
Loki quickly collects more wet sand and you start searching for seashells to adorn the sandcastle with.
By the time Loki finishes the castle it is three buckets high. Three castles support two castles, then those two castles support the last one on top. You show Loki all the shells you picked up and both of you chatter excitedly as you decorate the sandcastle.
You don’t miss that Loki makes sporadic trips to the water so he may wash the sand off of him. He tries to lie about it when you ask and responds that he’s just getting overheated and needs some water on his body to cool him down. If anything, you think it’s probably a half-truth.
When Loki comes back and you put the final shell on the castle you stand and smile at Loki sheepishly.
“Loki…” You start. Loki grabs you by the waist and hugs you to him, swaying from side to side.
“Yes, darling?”
You pull away but Loki doesn’t drop his hands from your hips just holds you at arm's length with a cute frown.
“I...Well...Ok, see, I wanted revenge for what you did and now I’m starting to realize I shouldn’t have done this.” You get out in an apologetic voice, a slight wince on your face.
Loki’s frown lifts to a look of amusement. “You knew I wouldn’t like the sand…” He replies softly.
You actually cringe at his remark. “Possibly.” You say in a high-pitched voice.
You gasp with a horrified look on your face because two kids run past and when one throws a handful of sand to the other kid it misses and hits Loki’s back instead.
You bite your lip when you see sand falling from his hair and face. At least the kids apologize before they’re running off laughing again. You simply watch as the amusement falls from Loki’s face and he closes his eyes.
“May we leave?” He says in a dangerously calm voice.
You nod but realize he can’t see it so you blurt out a yes and rush to your spot to pack everything up. Loki is right behind you, making sure to pick up the bucket you had brought, and as you panic he grabs your arm so you look at him.
“Calm down, sweetheart. I will not die from a little sand.” Loki says in a gentle and calming tone.
You feel your shoulders relax and take a deep breath. You nod and begin packing the stuff again, this time slower. Loki helps and it takes less than five minutes to begin your trek back to the car. As you pass the showers you bump into Loki’s side and nod at them. Loki looks at you gratefully before he’s handing you the beach bag and rushing over to the shower. You follow him, just slower. When you come to stand at the edge of the shower you watch Loki wash off with a lot of appreciation.
The water cascades down his back and your mouth goes dry when Loki brings his hands up and through his long black locks, tilting his chin up into the spurting water as he does. When his face isn’t in the direct spray he looks over at you. A smirk crosses his face as he rubs all the sand off his body and watches you watch him. When you catch his eyes you clear your throat and look away. Loki chuckles but doesn’t say anything, thankfully.
Once he has washed off what he can reach without undressing completely he comes to your side and grabs the beach bag from you once again. You both begin the trek back to the car, Loki dripping wet as he walks beside you.
“I’m impressed.” Loki states out of nowhere. You look over at him dumbfounded. “I’m impressed because you noticed a small detail about me and exploited it as revenge.” He explains with a small smirk, he doesn’t look at you though, just keeps his face forwards.
You let out a devious laugh. “I am dating the God of Mischief, gotta keep you on your toes somehow.”
Loki doesn’t answer you, merely shakes his head as he now genuinely smiles.
When you reach the car Loki packs everything up as you start the car so it can cool off. Loki doesn’t use one of the towels to dry off probably because they had been on the sand. He gets into the passenger seat, wet.
“Stark has the money to clean his cars without a second thought. I am not using one of those towels to dry off.” Loki confirms your suspicions when you look at him with an accusatory look.
You can’t fight the laugh that bubbles out and Loki smiles at you as he puts on his seat belt. You shake your head and focus on backing out of the parking space.
When you’re on the road back to the tower you let your arm rest on the console. Loki is quick to hold your hand in his.
“I love you.” Loki exclaims out of nowhere as you sit at a red light.
“Even after I made you go to the beach as revenge?” You ask as you squeeze his hand.
Loki squeezes back. “Even more so after that.”
“Never had a woman stand up to you after your pranks?” You ask. The light turns green so you can’t see Loki’s expression.
“Never.”
You hum, glancing over to him, when you can, and you find him smiling a loopy smile as he watches the road.
“You can prank me, that’s fine, just don’t ever do anything with my hair, please?” You focus on the road as you speak.
“Of course.”
“Just know, if you prank me there will be revenge.”
You can hear the smirk in Loki’s response. “Oh, I was hoping there would be, darling.”
<< Previous Next >>
Blinking your eyes open you are surprised to see that you are still in the living room. You can't remember falling asleep last night. Then you feel the arm that's thrown over your stomach and the breath of the super soldier sleeping beside you. Right you think, Captain America is my soulmate and we fell asleep watching the princess bride. That was a sentence you never thought possible.
You carefully shuffle around for a better angle to see the man next to you. His mouth is slightly open and he had moved from mostly sitting up to lying on his side, one arm under your head the other around your waist. His hair is adorably messy, you wouldn't have thought that his hair could be anything but perfect. It is strangely endearing to see him like this, completely relaxed and looking slightly ruffled.
Your gaze on his face seems to rouse him from his sleep, eyes slowly blinking open and taking in the world around him. He startles awake when he realizes how close you are and the fact that his arms are wrapped around you.
“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, I didn’t mean..” He starts apologizing while trying to untangle himself from you.
You cut him off by snuggling closer to him, your voice is muffled by his chest as you speak.
“Don’t you dare apologize, that was the best sleep I’ve had in ages, plus you’re my soulmate, I doubt cuddling on the couch all night will be the worst thing we do.” You look up to see a slight blush painting his cheeks at your words.
“I never said it was," he counters, still a little flustered, "but we only just figured this out last night and I didn’t want to assume anything.” He quickly gains his composure back, allowing himself to enjoy the feeling of you in his arms. That is until Tony walks in..
"Please no sex on the couch, it's a bitch to clean." He states loudly causing you to laugh at his antics. You force yourself to leave the warmth that is Steve's arms and walk over to Tony who is grabbing a cup of coffee.
“I’m still mad at you, you know, for not telling me earlier.” You state matter of factly. "All this time I thought I'd end up dying alone because of one of your experiments gone wrong, and it turns out that you knew who my soulmate is for months."
He looks at you for a moment, contemplating how to respond before softening and giving you a kiss on the forehead,
“I’m sorry little Buttercup, I should have told you earlier and not just assumed that you already knew.” You smile at this softer side of Tony, the side that he usually only allows you to see.
You pour yourself and Steve a cup of coffee, asking him how he likes it.
"A good amount of cream and a spoonful of sugar." He states looking a little sheepish. You smile at the fact that Captain America likes a little coffee with his creamer.
You jump slightly when you feel his arms sliding around your waist and his chin on your shoulder.
"Thank you, doll, that looks perfect." His voice is soft in your ear. You quickly realize Steve is an affectionate man that likes to cuddle and is quickly warming up to the fact that you enjoy it too.
You lean back into his embrace, reveling the simple fact that you could. You found your soulmate and you were already head over heels for the man.
Your mom always loved to cook and she taught you when you were young. So you decide to make up some pancakes and french toast for breakfast, after all, it isn't everyday that you find your other half.
Tony and Steve help set the table and everything while you cook. Steve askes if he can help but Tony knows that you enjoyed taking care of the cooking by yourself. That may partially come from the fact that, for the most part, Tony is a terrible cook and you don't want him anywhere near your food.
Once the table is set and you are well on your way to cooking breakfast, Steve and Tony sit down and start to talk. Steve, always the one to go straight to business, begins to ask about the girl he brought in the day before.
“She’s still unconscious, from the look of her she's been in some terrible fights, she has multiple gun wounds and some scars that look to be from some wicked knife wounds.” Tony answers, feeling a little bit of sympathy for the unconscious girl in the medical wing.
“Well all the same, I need to find out who so is and why she shot me.” Steve answers allowing a little bit of the exasperation he is feeling to slip into his words.
“She shot you?” Your voice is laced with worry and you walk up to him, placing the food in your hand on the table, “are you ok?” Your eyes search his body to see if you could find the wound he spoke of.
“Yes doll, she shot me. I had the bullet removed and the skin is almost completely healed." His voice is gentle, reassuring, letting you know that there is nothing for you to worry about.
"Anyway, it was like she wasn't shooting to kill. It was like she aimed for the spot that would cause the least amount of damage." His entire face is scrunched up in confusion, before he shakes his head and continues. "But I must speak with her when she wakes. That is the only way we can find out for sure.”
“Well until then, let's eat and then maybe you can come up with me to my lab so I can make you that punching bag.” You say setting the last of the food onto the table and grabbing some orange juice.
“You weren’t kidding about that?” Steve's voice is incredulous, he really didn't think that you would actually make a punching bag for him.
“Of course I was serious, I never kid.” You can’t help the smile that slips through the serious look you are putting on.
The next two days pass with you and Seve spending as much time together as possible. You are quickly able to develop a punching bag for him and even develop a couple of smaller items to help make missions easier as well. You are surprised how happy it makes you to have Steve in the lab with you. You share stories of your childhood and are surprised by the similarities, especially when it comes to your health. He tells you about Brooklyn, and his friend Bucky. About trying to get drafted and the events that lead to him becoming Captain American. You enjoy how willing he is to share his life with you and how easy it is for you to return the favor. You are in the middle of telling him the story of how you met Tony when Jarvis comes over the speaker.
“Mr. Rogers, the woman you brought in has awoken.”
You look at each other before rushing down the halfway to the medical wing. Steve steps in first and you quietly follow him, not wanting to get in the way.
“Oh good you’re awake,” Steve’s voice is harder than you had ever heard before, and you watch as the girl tenses up even more.
“Now I get to ask you all of the questions that I’ve been waiting to ask you for the past 3 days.” You watch him pull a chair up and sit, his pose meant to intimidate.
“Who are you? Why did you shoot me? What were you doing in that town and where did you get these?” You flinch slightly at the anger in his voice, glad that it isn’t currently directed at you.
Steve is holding up a pair of dog tags, and you wonder what they have to do with anything. The girl seems to be reeling from the questions trying to decide how to answer. You are curious as to what she will have to say. Her voice is desperate when she finally speaks.
“My name is Alison, my father is Hydra and forced me to become one of their experiments, a soldier for them. I was planning on escaping but I never could, I couldn’t leave him there.” Leave him? Leave who you wonder, her voice grows more desperate when she speaks of him, he must be important to her. You focus back in on what she is saying.
“I couldn’t leave him, not when I could do something to save him. I couldn’t leave him there all alone.” You can tell that she is close to tears as she speaks and that there is no lie in her words.
Steve balks, “Wait a minute, you’re Hydra.” He spits the words out at her causing you to look at him in confusion.
“Not by choice.” Her voice is steel. She holds no love for her father or this Hydra organization.
Steve finally asks the question that is bugging you. “Alright then, who is this “he” you keep mentioning?” He leans back crossing his arms, waiting for her answer.
She stares at him for a moment, as if deciding whether she can trust him or not. She seems to come to a conclusion. Taking a deep breath she answers,
“My soulmate, the soldier, the man on the dog tags, James Buchanan Barnes.” You can't help but gasp, James was Steve’s best friend, he had told you all about him the last couple of days. Your gaze immediately turns to Steve to see his reaction, his whole body has gone stiff, his eyes narrowed, teeth clenched.
“You’re lying. I watched him fall from the train, I watched him die! There is no way in hell he is your soulmate.” His anger is rolling off of him in waves.
You however remain strangely calm after the initial shock of her words. What she said makes sense, after all a 95 year old super soldier who was assumed dead for 70 years is your soulmate. Who's to say that James didn’t survive the fall?
You step up to Steve and softly place your hand on his shoulder.
The girl is still frantically trying to convince him, “I’m not lying! I swear! Hydra got to him. They made him into a weapon, they brainwashed him and put him on ice when they didn’t need him so that they could control him better. I swear, I’m not lying!" Her voice is practically hysterical at the end.
Leaning in to Steve you murmur to him,
“Steve, you survived an airplane crash and being frozen in a glacier for decades. Maybe she is telling the truth.” Your voice is soft, placating.
He turns to you, the hardness of his face softening at the sincerity he can see in your eyes.
“Fine,” he says turning back to the girl, Alison, “I can’t fully trust you and I can’t let you go, so you will have to live here in the tower, under surveillance. If you want us to trust you, you will have to prove yourself trustworthy.” Steve stands after this declaration, unlocking the cuffs on her wrists. You turn to her,
“I’ll make sure that they have a room ready for you as soon as you are well enough to leave the hospital.” You give her a soft smile, heaven knows she needs it. You pause a second, alone in the room with her, Steve had walked swiftly out the door as soon as he had undone the cuffs.
“I just have one last question,” she nods at you when you pause, “I know you shot Steve. But you missed anything important on purpose, didn’t you?"
She just gives you a secret smile and lays back against the pillow, but it is all you need to know the type of woman she is. You can tell already that you like this girl, and that it won’t take you long to trust her. Giving her one last look you step out the door, calling for Jarvis to make sure a room is ready for the new guest. You have a Steve to find.
He is exactly where you expect him to be, punching the shit out of the punching bag you made him.
“Hey Soldier.” You call to him, as you lean against the doorway. You watch as his body slouches at the sound of your voice, today was a lot.
“She said that Bucky is her soulmate,” his eyes are red as they catch yours, “what if he is alive and I could have saved him. All this time I thought that I watched him die and now there is this chance that he is alive. What if I abandoned him?”
His voice breaks at the question, he looks so vulnerable. You step quickly towards him, keeping your movements light. When you reach him you take the hand that is hanging limply by his side and place it on your cheek.
“Hey, love, look at me.” His eyes slide up from the floor. “There was no way you could have known and nothing you could have done to help. If he is alive, I will be right there with you and we will do whatever it takes to get him back. He is your family, and that makes him mine, and we don’t leave family behind.” His eyes are full of tears as he leans his head against yours.
The toll of the day, makes itself apparent in the slouch of his shoulders and the weight of his forehead. You slowly pull yourself out of the embrace, grasping his hand and pulling him with you.
“Come on, we both need sleep and there is no way in hell I’m letting you sleep by yourself after the day we just had.” He nods and follows your gentle pull to your room in the tower.
Since you have lived here the longest you have one of the nicest rooms, save Tony of course. Entering the room you have Steve sit on the edge of the bed while you start up the shower for him. You place out a couple of towels out on the vanity and step back into your room.
Steve hasn’t moved since you walked into the bathroom. You step up to him and gently place your hand on his cheek.
“Love, I have the shower running for you, everything is set out and I placed a clean pair of sweatpants and a shirt in there for you, they should fit. Go ahead and get cleaned up and then you can come lay down.”
He stares at you listlessly for a moment before nodding and moving to do exactly as you suggested. As he showers you change into your pjs, you would take your shower in the morning. You grab the book on your bedside table and allow yourself to get lost in the words for a moment. The sound of the shower turning off brings you back to reality, as Steve steps out of the bathroom in just the sweatpants.
Your first thought is holy shit followed quickly by the thought that whoever decided that you would be the perfect soulmate for this specimen might have been mistaken .
Steve is having a similar train of thought, looking at you in your too large shirt and messy bun, knowing that behind your beauty is a heart of gold. He can't believe his luck.
He walks to the other side of the bed, drying off his hair and throwing the towel in the hamper. Pausing for a moment at the empty side of the bed, searching your face for any trace of doubt. Instead all he sees is you smiling at him and gesturing for him to take his place beside you.
Settling into the bed he is surprised when you lean over and place your head in his lap.
“I’m glad it’s you.” He smiles at the soft admission, thankful that he finally found you after all these years.
“I’m glad it’s you too, doll. For the longest time I thought I would never find you, I thought you may not even exist. But I did and you are even more amazing than I could have ever hoped for." He pauses for a moment deciding whether to say what's on his mind or not. He is hesitant as he starts to speak.
"Thank you for today, for calming me when I needed it and for being there for me. Not many people have seen me cry, but I’m glad that you have and that you aren’t disappointed in me for not staying strong.” At his words you immediately sit up and stare him straight in the eyes.
“You listen here, Steve Rogers." You poke him in the chest as you speak. " I never want you to feel like you have to keep up appearances when you are around me. You may need to be strong for others but not for me. I am here for you, no matter what, and that especially includes the moments where you can no longer be strong. You better remember that, I will never judge you for the way you feel.” Taking in your intense stare, Steve feels warmth spreading through his body. Yes , he thinks, he is very glad that it's you.
Smiling at you and nodding Steve grasps your arms and pulls you into his chest, savoring the feeling of your head resting over his heart. He can’t remember the last time he felt as content as he does in this moment. The world may feel like it's moments away from crashing down around him, but right now all he can think about is you.
You Coward!
Fandom: Avengers Pairing: Peter Parker x Male!Reader Summary: You show your love to Peter in a weird way. Word Count: 1,133 Request: hey! i was wondering if i could request a peter parker x reader fic where the reader and peter are dating, but nobody knows everyone thinks they actually hate each other because they have that kind of relationship where they constantly insult each other to show affection. thanks a ton!
“The real treasure was the memories we made along the way!” The team hears the two youngest avengers enter the base, coming back from a shield mission.
They were always apprehensive in sending you and Peter on missions because you guys are young - you should live your life out. They’re even more apprehensive when they send the two of you together on a mission, knowing that you two somehow don’t have a pleasant relationship.
“I almost died!” Peter exclaimed as both Tony and Steve raised an eyebrow at Peter’s exasperation.
You chortle laughter, throwing your head back, “Ah yes, that was my fondest memory.“
“You’re a prick,” Peter snapped.
See, what they hear is you and Peter once again arguing, throwing each other under the bus and insulting each other. What they don’t see is the fond smile the two of your share, the love and admiration in your eyes as you lovingly had your arm over your boyfriend’s shoulder. That’s right, boyfriend. You really don’t know what it was about Peter or how you got together, but the two of you had mutual respect for each other.
Again, it was weird how you two came to be. You were a cynic, pessimistic and probably realistic at best - you don’t have high expectation to be disappointed that easily. Peter was full of life, he saw the glass half full and always optimistic, sometimes it’s sickening. Your mutual friends like to tease you two when you’re together at school, you somehow are a further progressed relationship of Enjorlas and Grantaire from Les Miserables.
When Tony and Steve enter the front room to see you and Peter, they witness you pushing Peter - though seconds before, you had tenderly ruffled his hair and kissed his forehead.
“Do we want to know what happened on the mission,” Steve asked, his arms crossed over his chest.
“No.”
“Yes.”
Tony sighed as he pats Peter on the shoulder, gripping him and pulling towards himself, “Steve, keep your boy on his leash - will ya?”
Steve standing by you like a protective dad, “Back right at you, Stark.”
You raised both your eyebrows at your boyfriend to signal him good luck as he rolls his eyes. Tony leading Peter away before something bad between the two of you happens. You sighed, stretching your back as you looked at Steve, who raised an eyebrow at you.
“What?” You asked, almost offended.
“You need to be nicer to Peter.”
“I am nice to Parker!”
“Perhaps, start of by calling him by his first name?”
“I am nice to Parker!”
“(L/n) gave me a 'get better soon' card,” Peter spoke as he was looking at his homework.
Tony and Bruce looked up from their work as Tony spoke, “Aw, that's so sweet!”
Peter scoffed, “I wasn't sick. He just thought I could do better.”
There is a lot of hints that you two had despised each other, but those things were just things you did to each other to keep your relationship fun and fresh. It just so happen the team missing out on the cute stuff and overhearing or walking into the ruthless antics the two of you display.
“What are you doing?” Peter asked, holding a can of soda in hand.
You were lying on the ground, “My best.”
Peter scoffed, stepping over you as Clint and Natasha watch in disbelief as Peter calls out a dig at you whilst you put the middle finger behind his back before getting into a comfortable position on the ground.
It always seemed to be Steve and Tony that your antics get caught out by. It’s always funny to see their reaction which egged you and Peter to continue to be horrible to each other, of course within the respected limit.
“Aren’t you sugar and spice and everything nice?” You leaned against the breakfast island with Steve looking whilst Peter was on his laptop with Tony looking over his shoulder.
“Well, aren’t you rudeness, and sarcasm and everything...” You raised an eyebrow at your boyfriend who flushed red.
You smirked, looking very smug, “No, go on. You find something that rhymes with sarcasm and makes sense and I’ll stop acting like an asshole.”
“Shut up-”
“No.”
It got to the point that the team was very concerned and had planned to sit the two of you down of intervention. But, they never seem to get a good time to sit you down, everyone was busy and despite their concerns, they actually enjoy the words that were being thrown about between the two young lads of the team.
“I am here to grace you with my presence,” You announced as you enter Peter’s room.
Natasha and Clint hearing Peter groan, “Oh Lord, what have I done to deserve this?”
Ten minutes later the two hear you laughing as you exit Peter’s room, “Get a hobby!” Peter shouted.
“My hobby is making fun of you when you talk!”
The insults don’t stop there, it happens everywhere and anywhere, even at dinner with the team as you sat across each other, playing footsies under the table.
“I’m a highly educated person, for your information,” You were offended.
Bruce was about to intervene from Peter saying something hurtful but he was too slow as Peter replied, “Doubtful,” As you gasped, you saw the twinkle in his eyes that everyone seemed to miss, “ Sometimes, I wonder if you were dropped when you were a baby.”
“Fuck you, Parker.”
“Boys-!” Steve interjected as the two of you fall silent.
Your insult battle had even appeared in a battle with the bad guy, somehow you and Peter wormed in a conversation in the middle of fighting the bad guy. You’d think the team would actually appreciate the banter if they actually knew that you and Peter were dating and meant to no harm to each other
“You're annoying,” You hissed as Peter smirks at you.
At that point, the team was about to raid the living room to start a meeting with the pair of you that you should be nicer to each other. However, they were stopped short with Peter’s reply.
“But, you love me.”
You scoffed, “Doesn't make you less annoying.”
Standing in the open archway, the team looks on at the two boys who had no idea the team was behind them. Peter tackles you into a loving hug and mounted you, as he put little kisses on your face as you struggle to get out of his grip.
“Peter!” You moaned, pouting, “This isn’t fair!”
“Don’t care,” He snaps back and goes back in kissing all areas of your face, “Let me love you, you coward!”
The team leaves the two boys in the living room, thinking they didn’t need to worry about you two at all.
Hey! Do you have any irondad fic recs? I just started reading Peter and Tony fics again and I would love any recs you have!
Hello!
Yes, I do! :D It's by no means complete because I am still busy compiling, but I have quite a few already.
For all the below stories, please heed the tags and warnings on AO3. And of course, feel also free to check out my stories. :)
My AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/JolinarJackson/works
The below fics are not compiled in any particular order.
If I Die Young by MusicalLuna
Summary: Tony and Steve are trying to keep their little boy (who's not so little anymore) out of the superhero business for as long as possible, but when a kid's as stubborn as Peter is, they can't always stop him.
And sometimes things go wrong. Really, really wrong.
Categories: Superfamily, Not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: This is a wonderful whump story that I go back to again and again.
Lightning in a Bottle by Gruoch
Summary: Peter takes the tablet and looks down at the screen, where a picture of Spider-Man intimately entangled in a passionate embrace with Johnny Storm is displayed across the majority of the Daily Bugle’s home page. TORCH CAUGHT IN SPIDER-MAN’S WEB, the headline reads, bracketed by spider and flame emojis. Peter looks back up at Tony, who is still staring at him completely stone-faced.
Tony reaches across the island and taps the screen. “So. What do you have to say about that?”
“Well. For one, I’m a little disappointed with the headline,” Peter offers.
Tony lets his chin drop against his chest, momentarily defeated, before taking a deep breath and once more skewering Peter with a hard look. “You could have at least given me some warning that the two of you are...I mean, I had my suspicions, but—”
“You’re misconstruing the situation. Spider-Man and the Torch are dating,” Peter explains. “Johnny and I are just friends.”
“Boy, you’re really leaning hard into this whole alter ego thing, aren’t you?” Tony deadpans. “How’s that working out for you?”
Categories: Irondad, SpideyTorch
Comment: I love stories taking advantage of the havoc that secret superhero identities can wreak on romantic relationships. The best about this particular story is the witty writing, which makes Peter being a chaotic mess in this even better.
The doubts that complicate by @frostysunflowers
Summary: "But he’s smart!" May had blurted, looking up at the teacher with misplaced anger. "I don’t...how does this make sense?"
She was worried, unaware, unprepared, not like Peter who had known for a while that some things were trickier for him than other kids. All the rules hidden in cheerful little rhymes and singing songs about which letters get along and those who don’t play nice; all the robotic reciting of the alphabet nearly every day: none of it had ever truly helped Peter understand how it all worked.
A brand new door opened in his life that day. On the front of it, the word ‘DYSLEXIC’ was printed in bold, the certainty of what it meant holding the letters permanently in place.
or
Nobody ever said being smart was easy.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This is a wonderful read. @frostysunflowers manages to describe dyslexia in a way that makes the struggle understandable. The relationship between Tony and Peter is heart-warming. This is a great read if you're in the mood for something that is not too long and still want a good dosage of H/C.
Accepting the Tides by Emma_Anacortes
Summary: Tony had dragged Peter from the depths of despair after May's death. It was normal that he'd grown to care a little about him, right?
Yeah, okay. He freaking loved the kid.
So naturally he would feel a little weird when Richard Parker randomly shows up in Peter's life. Naturally he'd feel protective, nervous, and confused because where has Richard been all this time? And why does Tony feel sick every time he sees him around Peter?
All he knows is if Richard hurts his kid, Tony's gonna give him hell.
Categories: Irondad, Steve & Peter
Comment: This story is intense, no doubt about it. Please heed all the warnings and tags carefully. However, if you give it a try, it's so worth it. This story presents a different backstory to the relationship of Peter and his parents (especially his father) while exploring Peter and Tony forging a father/son-bond in the wake of May's death. I have to say that the the relationship between Peter and Steve in this story is just as prominent and amazingly written. I loved every second of it.
with arms wide open by @parkrstark
Summary: Tony and Pepper are expecting a baby and Peter may be the one most excited...just maybe…
Categories: Irondad, Pepperony
Comment: This is undeniably cute and heart-warming: Tony and Pepper get pregnant and Peter is right there with them, freaking out. Peter spends this story preparing to become a big brother while still being unsure about whether this is the role he is going to fulfill in the baby's life. This stoy focsses on the found family that is Tony, Pepper and Peter, but there are wonderful interactions with May, Rhodey and Happy as well.
-----
the stars the moon they have all been blown out (you left me in the dark) by @madasthesea
Summary: It starts off with his vision fading in and out.
What kind of demon drug can make someone go blind by inhaling a single lungful? Whatever it is, Tony doubts it’s reversible. And while Peter’s no idiot, he can be idiotically optimistic. He's determined to fix what appears to be unfixable.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is experienced entirely from Tony's point of view, which make the effects of the drug and his reaction to it all the more poignant. Tony's relationship to Peter is especially highlighted in this story. You can only imagine the worry and pain Peter geos through unil the very end of the story and the pay-off is worth it. I want to highlight the way that Tony's experiecne of the effects of the drug are described here, because I thought that was superb writing and put the reader righ in Tony's shoes.
-----
turn back the clock (and I'll try again in the morning) by @madasthesea
Summary: Peter gets stuck in a time loop. In it, he lives through some of his worst nightmares, only to wake up that morning and have no one remember. He needs Tony to help him get through.
And if that isn't bad enough, his identity is revealed over and over, every day.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is just SO GOOD. Not only is Peter experiencing the same day over and over again and his identity is revealed, but the way it happens also gets more and more taxing and gruesome. This story has emotional highpoints that are written fantastically and the Irondad in this is just heart-warming.
How The Mighty Fall by Meep_Morp
Summary: Since his duel against Toomes on Coney Island, Peter's life has settled down considerably. May knows about his double life and accepts it (mostly). Tony has welcomed him back, and given him more independence as New York's Spider-Man.
One night during patrol he crosses paths with Connor, a teenager who has Extremis in his blood and answers to the wrong kind of people. Though Tony is quick to distrust him, Peter finds himself reluctant to follow his mentor's lead, and a bond develops between the two boys. Their relationship is further complicated when Connor's former master, Negative, makes it a personal mission to destroy them both in his quest for power.
Taking down a superpowered psychopath? Tough, but Peter isn't going to back down.
Stopping Tony from blasting his first potential boyfriend into space? He might need a miracle for that.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is so intricately plotted and just a joy to read. The characters are written to perfection and this includes an absolutely fantastic and fleshed-out OC who, as a reader, you come to care about easily and quickly. Much more subtle is the relationship between Peter and Tony in this fic but every single scene is on-point. I have read and re-read this story several times and it is hard to put aside once you start.
Project Pride by TheSleepingOwl
Summary: In hindsight, it should have been obvious. The signs were all there, unwittingly scattered by Peter like breadcrumbs for Tony to follow—the way he would fall into uncomfortable silence when the topic of dating came up, or become flustered whenever Tony teased him about the mysterious Michelle-Call-Me-MJ character Peter was constantly gushing about, or deflect Tony’s mostly-joking inquiries into whether or not they needed to be having The Talk with a hurricane of splutters and blushes.
And even without the signs, Peter was still his kid. Tony was just supposed to know these things.
So when FRIDAY pulled up Peter’s search history—‘how can i make myself not like boys,’ ‘can you force yourself to be attracted to girls,’ ‘how to stop your friends from knowing youre gay,’ and, most devastating, ‘how can i keep my parents from finding out im gay’—Tony wasn’t surprised so much as deeply, unquantifiably ashamed. Because he should have known.
Categories: Irondad
Comment: This story is an incredibly written POV of Tony coming to terms with Peter's sexuality. It's achingly realistic in the way Tony struggles to connect to Peter, knowing that he's gay. Additionally, this story has a hefty doese of Hurt/Comfort thrown in that hurts when reading it. This is a gem.
Birds Eating Other Birds by aloneintherain
Summary: Peter wishes he hadn’t gotten out of bed that morning. Then, maybe, he wouldn’t be reduced to this - limp-crawling through the rabbit burrows that is Oscorp Tower, a monster of a man on his heels, bloody and bruised and choking on a panic attack.
Categories: Irondad, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: I love aloneintherain's stories. I read them when I first got into Avengers fanfic and the way they write dynamics is great. This one is intense and the way it's written sucks you right into it. Norman Osborn is so evil and creepy in this one. Part one is mainly hurt, but stick around for the comfort in part 2!
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/7626433
----- And here are some Avengers team dynamic fics as well -----
It Was Probably The Pudding by Serendipity_Cometh
Summary: Given that over the course of the past eleven months Peter Parker hasn't contracted so much as a head-cold, the teenager thought it safe to assume that the whole 'irradiated spider bite' gig had equipped him with an immune system of steel that rivalled Captain America's.
So when he wakes up one night in the midst of the worst asthma attack he's suffered in almost eight years, neither he nor the rest of the team can think of a logical explanation.
And everything sort of goes downhill from there.
Categories: Team, Stony, Clint/Phil, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: When I started out reading Avengers fanfictions, I stumbled across this one and go back to it on a regular basis. Lots of whump and great team dynamics.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/953538/chapters/1865305
-----
In the Home by aloneintherain
Summary: The Avengers have been infected, turned violent and aggressive against their will. And Peter, the only one unaffected, is trapped inside the Tower with six feral teammates.
“Natasha,” Peter says cautiously, “what happened here? Steve attacked me, and if there was ever a sign that something was wrong, it’s having the embodiment of Truth, Justice, and the American Way throw you across the room -”
Natasha comes closer, her stride controlled. Nothing necessarily out of the ordinary, but there’s something in her face, in her eyes -
Natasha lunges across the space, and slams into Peter, hard.
Categories: Team, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: One of my very early reads when I started out in the Avengers fandom. Excellent whump, hurt/comfort and team dynamics.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/5388563/chapters/12446069
-----
Fitting In (Tiny Spaces) by aloneintherain
Summary: Peter's trapped beneath a collapsed building during a mission, hurt and unable to move. Luckily, his comm still works. Unluckily, the Avengers don’t realise how bad of a state Peter is in, and Peter isn’t inclined to tell them.
“Spidey, they’ve got reinforcements. We’ve hit a bit of a snag here, and I don’t think anyone will be able to help you for a while. Think you can sit tight while we deal with this?”
The pressure on his lower back and legs was becoming too much. Peter swallowed thickly, fighting down panic. He could handle this.
“Yeah,” Peter said. “I can do that.”
Categories: Team, not MCU!Peter Parker
Comment: There are so many "Peter trapped under a building"-stories out there but this is the one I read first and it stuck with me. Loved the team dynamic in this.
MASTERLIST
---------------------------------
“Uncle Bucky!” Morgan’s sweet voice entered the room before she was in sight. The sound of her feet running against the linoleum of the compound echoed just as loudly.
I smiled at Bucky as he stood up to greet the little girl running towards him from the hallway, bracing himself for her hug.
“Hey there MiniMo. How's it going?” He asked as he knelt to her height watching her smile grow on her face as she bounced on her toes.
“Can we go to the park? Daddy said it was alright while he worked.” Morgan begged.
“You just got here Maguna. Take a chill pill.” Tony said as he finally showed up in the common room.
“But dad, it's so pretty outside!” She whined turning towards Tony.
“And it'll be just fine a little later too. You need breakfast first missy.” He smirked as he readjusted his sling. “Say Hi to Aunt Y/n/n too. She’s looking a little dejected.”
I smiled as Morgan enthusiastically waved at me with her toothy grin before turning back to Bucky.
Despite their differences, Tony and Bucky had created a peaceful relationship. Tony still had some precautions but after speculation he realized where he had been mistaken and had finally accepted Bucky’s profuse apologizes about Hydras doing. Though Tony was very protective over Morgan, especially after his snap, Morgan had been the one to really connect the two parties. She broke Bucky out of his shell even more, probably even helped him more than I had through Steves leaving.
Bucky was amazing with Morgan. He treated her as if she was his younger sister like in the 40’s with Becca. He had told me once that Morgan’s smile reminded him of her. Other than Tony he had become the most protective of the girl. It was adorable. He always offered to babysit if Tony and Pepper had business or just needed a night off and if there wasn't a mission that had to be done.
Tony pulled Morgan along to the kitchen and Bucky had rejoined me on the couch, watching me complete the sudoku puzzle I was working on. I could feel the nervous energy coming from him as if he wanted to say something.
“What’s on your mind Buck?” I asked, not looking away from my puzzle.
“Huh, oh. Just thinking that's all.”
“Want to indulge me? I can feel your anxiety radiating from you.” I teased him, turning to see his sweet face.
“Do you want kids?” he asked bluntly. My heart dropped to my stomach and the smile that was on my face had faded as soon as the words left his mouth. “I mean like after we get married or something. I know we've only been dating for like a year or so, but we've never talked about this.” he said his hands fiddling in his lap as he watched my reaction.
“I- uh. I- well ummm I-”
“Uncle Bucky! Lets go to the park! Please!! Daddy said it was alright now!” Morgan interrupted my flustered stuttering.
“Ok MiniMo. I'll be right there. Go put on your jacket.” He smiled as she skipped away back to the door. “I didn't mean to upset you. We can talk about it later. I’ll see you in a bit.” he said before kissing my head and following Morgan out the door.
I watched his retreating form with tears glazing my eyes. My vision shifted from the hallway to see Tony standing in the doorway of the kitchen, his arm crossed over his chest and a sympathetic look on his features.
“Need to talk about something? I don't have to be in the lab yet.” He offered, moving towards me.
“I- I- He’s gonna hate me.” I whispered.
“Why’s that?” he sat down next to me, his good arm slug around the back of the couch.
“He asked if I wanted kids, probably because he wants them but I don't. I can't. He’s gonna hate me.” I turned to Tony.
“Did he explicitly say that he wanted kids? That he wanted to start a family with you.”
“No but -”
“EH- stop. If he didnt straight up say he wanted kids then don't be so worried. He’s asking what you want in the future.” he said.
“But what if he wants a family. I can't give him that Tony. I can't give him what he had, what he might want.”
“And if he truly loves you it won't be a problem. He might want a family but there are other ways to have kids.”
“No Tony, you don't understand. I don't want to have children at all. I can't deal with the stress of raising someone. I don't want to have a child just to mess them up because I’m not mother material.”
“Pepper thought that for a while. She doubted her ability but now look, we've got this amazing daughter.”
“You're not listening to me. I'm not mother material. I'm a mercenary. Pepper is an executive Business woman. She knows what it's like to have a family, how a child should be raised. I have no idea what that's like. I didn't have that luxury, I wouldn't know where to start. She doubted herself for a moment in life, I on the other hand have known forever that I will never be good enough to be a mother, whether it was my own child or adopted. I'm not made for that life.” I argued, the pain settling in my chest.
“Come on Y/n/n, you can't seriously believe that.” Tony said.
“I 100% do. I was raised as a killer, not a lover. I don't nurture things. I manage to kill everything I touch in time.” I stated, “I'm gonna go shower. Good luck with your projects.” I said before walking out of the room.
----------
I closed the bedroom door behind me and tossed my sudoku book onto the unmade bed. I looked at the clock on the wall watching the hands move. I began pacing along the carpet lost in my thoughts. Bucky's face ingrained in my memory, the way his eyebrows were furrowed in concentration, the lines creased on his forehead, the way his eyes flitted to mine after he asked the question of curiosity swimming within and a hopeful gleam.
Of course he would want a family. He grew up with a sister and a loving mother. And Steve was practically his brother. Why wouldn't he want a daughter or a son of his own. He loves Morgan and he loves spending time with her so of course he's pictured himself with his own children one day.
I ran a hand over my face trying to wipe away the worry. I pulled my shirt over my head dropping it onto the floor with my sweatpants before walking into the bathroom. I turned the water to the hottest setting possible watching the room fill with steam almost immediately.
The water cascaded around me, trailing off my fingertips and dripping from my hair. The cool tile of the floor underneath my huddled form wasn't noticeable with the steaming water hitting my back. My arms were wrapped around my legs as I sat on the floor of the shower, my head leaning against the wall reimagining the look that Bucky had given me. It had morphed to a pained look, one of disgust, of hatred.
“Hey Y/n? Everything alright? Tony said you needed to talk to me.” Bucky's voice broke me from my trance. I heard the bathroom door open and close behind him. He knocked against the tinted glass door to the shower. “Can I join you?”
“If you want to.” I said quietly, pulling myself off the floor as he got undressed and stepped in. His hands wrapped around my waist.
“What's going on doll?” HIs deep voice whispered as he left kisses on my shoulder.
“Maybe we should break up.” I said quietly. His grip loosened a little and his kisses stopped.
“What are you talking about?”
“I just don't want to hold you back from something you want.” I said.
“Is this about what I asked earlier? Because I didn't mean that we had to have kids now. I know that our lives are still kinda hectic. We can wait. I don't mind.” he said, his hands turning me to face him.
“I can't have kids. Even if I could I don’t want kids. And you obviously want a family. I can't give you that. I can't give you what you had growing up. I can't give you a loving family like you want.” tears were freely streaming down my cheeks.
“We don't need kids to have a loving family. I have you. That's enough for me.” he reassured, his hands cupping my face.
“But you want kids. I see how you act with Morgan. You adore her.” I said.
“I do adore her, but that doesnt mean I want kids. I adore you much more than risking losing you over wanting children. I'm fine without kids. We can have a dog instead.”
“But- I-”
“Stop. Listen to me closely; I don't need children to have a family with you. It can just be me and you. I don’t care just as long as I’m sharing my future with you.” he said gently but stern. “Now come on, let’s get out and go play with Morgan, ok?”
I simply nodded and followed his lead out of the shower. He took my towel and dried me off gently, finishing by placing a kiss on my lips.
“I love you, you know that.” he smiled tilting my chin up to meet his gaze.
“I love you too. I'm sorry.”
“There's nothing to apologize for, doll. Nothing at all.” he said with another smile before crushing me in a hug.
Love is a War – Chapter 1 Peter Parker x Pregnant!Stark Reader
Summary: you’re pregnant and you need to tell your family and Peter.
Warnings: violence, injuries, swearing, snap does not happen
Iron girl is what they called you, Tony Starks' daughter. When you joined the team when you were 15, the world learnt who you were by name only, never your face. Your father had given you a new suit every year for your birthday from when you turned 13. He gave it to you for fun, not wanting you to go out and fight with it. If he even suspected that you were using it to fight, he took it away from you. Joining the team changed that you developed further relationships with people who you lived with.
The compound was split onto levels. Your father and Pepper had the penthouse, which you shared with them until you turned 16 and demanded your own floor. Steve, Bucky and Sam had the floor closest to the gym, they spent a majority of their time in that place, most of the time together, their army days making them close. Nat and Wanda shared another floor, they had wanted you to join their floor, claiming that girls should always stick together. Bruce occupied the space next to the labs, always wanting to be close to his work. He shared his space with Thor when he came to visit, but it was a rare occasion. Clint sometimes came to visit but lived with his family, keeping them away from danger.
Peter had been assigned a room in the penthouse, Tony's orders, however after you two had been dating for over two years and after you, both turned 18, he was allowed to move onto your floor. His room was to be separate from yours for your father's peace of mind, but that didn't stop you only sleeping in one of the two rooms every night. Even when you were sick.
You honestly thought you were dying. Everyone else in the compound believed that you had the flu. Your father Tony had wanted you to stay in the med bay just so that someone was keeping an eye on you at all times of the day. He also wanted you there so that he could run tests to make sure that you just had the flu and nothing else. He tried to coax you into the med bay, but you knew better. His tricks didn't fool you, the only way to get him off of your back was to have Bruce give you IV fluids. He didn't want you to dehydrate. Until you got better, you were also banned from being Iron Girl.
Peter was by your side the entire time. When he wasn't working at the internship, he was by your side, comforting you. Being enhanced by the spider bite when he was younger meant that he was immune to most if not all illnesses. His worry grew for you when you weren't getting any better. He tried to get you to go get tests done at the med bay as well, but even he couldn't charm you.
Then your symptoms started to change slightly, you were still throwing up, and certain smells set you off. When Wanda was cooking chicken one night, you couldn't help but excuse yourself to empty your stomach once again. Peter hot on your tail, like he always was to hold your hair back. Some days you spent all day in bed resting, doing the simplest of things tired you out. Peter would always cuddle you in bed when he came back, only wanting you to get better.
Once you had dropped off to sleep, he decided to do some research into your symptoms and to what it could possibly be that was making you this sick. There were a few possibilities as to what could be wrong with you, but the one that stuck out the most to him was pregnant. He couldn't get the idea of children out of his head. The thought of a mini you or him running around, having the other avengers wrapped around its fingers.
"Baby, do you know why you are getting so sick?" Peter asked one morning after you returned to bed.
"I don't know Petey. Maybe I should go down to the med bay, I hate feeling like this." Your eyes were tearing up at the fact that you didn't know what was wrong with you. Feeling absolutely useless, you crawled into Peters lap, wrapping your arms around his neck.
Peter pulled away from you, his eyes meeting yours, "have you ever thought that you could be pregnant?" The idea was preposterous, there was no way that you could be pregnant. The both of you were careful, not wanting to end up in that position.
Shaking your head, you were certain. "I think I would know Pete. I think I would know my own body."
"Why don't you just take a test (y/n). Just to be on the safe side. I don't mind going to buy it, I'll make sure to go to the next city. I'll pay by cash as well, then it can't be traced back to us. Don't worry, I have this." He was so kind and helpful, thinking of things that even you wouldn't have thought of.
When Peter bought the test, he snuck into an alleyway just so that he could hide the test up his jumper. There were cameras in every room of the compound except for the bathrooms. On his arrival to your shared floor, he headed straight for the bathroom so that he could put the test in there for you to take.
Slowly making your way into the bathroom, Peter couldn't help but smile at you. He wanted to be by your side through it all. "Pete, turn around. I'm not having you watch me pee."
With a pout on his face, he reluctantly turned around. When he heard the sound of the toilet flush, and your trousers being pulled back up, he turned to face you again. "The box says we have to wait two minutes. Humming you couldn't help but think how long those two minutes would feel, and they did feel long. When the timer on your phone went off, you held your breath as you looked at the test in front of you.
Pregnant.
The one word that changed everything. Your body was growing a tiny human. Showing it to Peter, he clutched at you laughing not quite believing the word on the test. Was this a dream, a nightmare, or reality? Placing a hand on your stomach, your emotions were all over the place. You were ecstatic that you were having a baby with the man in front of you, but you were both still only 19, were you ready for this?
It was weighing on your mind a lot, only Peter knew, and you were going crazy. Someone else had to know, you couldn't keep it a secret forever. There was only one person you could turn to, one person immune to your father's charms, one person who could lie to him. Pepper.
After talking to Peter about it, he agreed that talking to Pepper was a good idea. She would know where to go for an ultrasound scan, that would keep it a secret. You had asked Pepper to come to your floor for lunch, it would be easier to tell her there as there would be no interruptions. Sitting across from her you asked F.R.I.D.A.Y. to turn off the mics to your floor, telling the A.I. that you were discussing a present for Tony.
When the words left your mouth that you were pregnant you broke down. The emotions you had let build up finally erupted. Pepper was by your side in an instant arms around your shoulders, rocking you until you stopped crying. "Does Peter know?" All she wanted to do was keep you safe, her daughter growing up too quickly for her liking.
You nodded your head, "I know I need to tell dad, but I just don't know how." You were now grasping onto her arms that were around you.
"We can tell him together hun. I'm by your side no matter what you want." Pepper was always the mother figure in your life, always the person you went to when you had a problem, she was always there for you.
Discussing the scan made you nervous, you would have to go to a different city to have it. Somewhere where you or your family weren't as well known. When Pepper told you that the med bay could do it, you were scared. They would no doubt tell your father and then it wouldn't be your secret. When she told you that they had to abide by patient confidentiality due to your age, you couldn't be happier.
Calling Pete you told him the news, Pepper had booked you into the med bay for that night, a time of day when it would be quietest. She wanted to go with you, but your father would be suspicious if she didn't attend dinner with a client. Pete came back early from work, wanting to spend some time with you before your scan, in your little bubble of two, before it became your bubble of three.
Nerves ran through you as you attended the med bay for your scan. It would be the first time you would see the little one growing inside of you. Peter held your hand throughout and even shed a tear when the sonographer showed the screen of your baby. It was real now, your baby.
You decided to tell the team in the morning, you would tell your father at the same time, hoping his reaction would cause minimal damage. You were about to tell him about the one thing he was worried about happening. Right now, it was just you in your bubble of Peter and the baby.
Waking up, you almost couldn't go through with it, but with Peter, by your side, you could face anything. You had asked F.R.I.D.A.Y. to get everyone in the common room so that you could tell them all the news together, it was a non-negotiable meeting. "What's wrong? Why have you got everyone here first thing on a Saturday morning?" Bucky grumbled. He was never one for mornings, always consuming an unhealthy amount of caffeine if he had to be up before midday.
"We have some news, and we wanted to tell you all together." Peters' strong voice surprised everyone, including you. He was always shying away from the team when it came to speaking publicly in front of them.
You took the responsibility out of his hands and just came out with it, "I'm pregnant. We're having a baby." Shock covered everyone's faces, they couldn't believe that the two youngest members of the team were going to have a baby.
One by one, the team all came to hug the both of you, congratulating you. All except your father. His face was stoic as he stood leaning against the wall one hand resting on his chin as he thought hard. "Are you sure you are pregnant? That this isn't some kind of prank that the two of you are pulling on me." He refused to believe it until he saw for himself.
When you pulled the photo of your unborn baby from your pocket and gave it to him, he cried, pulling in for a hug. "My little girl is having a baby. Is this why you have been sick? Until that baby is born no more missions for you, no getting into the suit and certainly no training for you. We need to keep my grandchild safe."
The domesticity in the room was not what anyone would have expected, everyone pulled into different conversations about the baby and how it would fit into the dynamic of the team. They all wanted to be involved. Bruce couldn't help his thoughts from wandering, thinking about the genetics that this baby might have. The brains that were established in both you and Peter. He pulled Tony into the corridor to discuss what was plaguing his mind, hoping that he could offer some reassurances.
"Have you ever thought about the biological capabilities of this child? We need to run tests, there is a possibility that the D.N.A. sequence could match yours with the spider gene." Your father turned to Peter when entering the room. "This can change everything. If this information fell into the wrong hands, it could be detrimental to you all, especially that baby. If our enemies found out, then they could take the baby and possibly replicate it, but in the process, it would kill the baby."
Everyone's faces visibly paled at the words your father just spoke. Turning to Bruce, you wanted his opinion, he was the one who had all the degrees. He just nodded his head, your baby could be a target. Sitting down tears ran tracks along with your features. Peter couldn't believe it either, he had been so happy about it to only find it could be fatal, it could lead to even your death.
Steve then decided to speak up "It is just a possibility at the moment."
