World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast

For the first time in its 35-year history, the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast will be held in August with the support of MGM Springfield and many area businesses. It will include all of its traditional fare, pancakes, bacon, coffee, juice, and milk, entertainment, and family fun. It will also include treats from Entenmann’s and cold crisp water courtesy of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission, interactive displays from the Springfield Fire and Police Departments, and the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni will preside over Springfield’s pancake party as the 2021 Honorary Chair. He will tour Main Street to thank volunteers and greet guests. He will flip some pancakes and give greetings at 9:30am from Peter Pan Bus Lines’ Futurliner on Bruce Landon Way. 

Mark your calendars for August 21st to join the Spirit of Springfield from 8am to 11am on Main Street, Court Square to Tower Square, for the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - Friday was a day of preparation for the world's largest pancake breakfast along Main street.

Keeping with tradition, 2017 honorary event chairman Sheriff Nick Cocchi taught this year's honorary chairman Nathan Costa the fine art of cooking the crispiest Bacon.

Cocchi and Costa along with representatives from Carando's Italian Meats got an early start preparing 990 pounds of Bacon served with Pancakes for an estimated twelve to fifteen thousand visitors expected downtown Saturday morning.

Costa, President of the Springfield Thunderbirds told 22News, he's having a memorable time as this year's honorary pancake breakfast chairman.

"You know getting to be the chairman of the pancake breakfast is pretty cool, it's a pretty cool experience," Costa said.

Main street from State to bridge streets was closed to traffic, mid-morning, to allow Michael's party rentals of Palmer to create a giant breakfast table out of 230 tables stretching about two thousand feet down the street.

More than 300 volunteers will assist with tomorrow's pancake breakfast from eight until 11 a.m., but Spirit of Springfield executive director, Judy Matt said it usually runs until about noon.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa has been chosen as this year's honorary chair of the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast.

World's Largest Pancake Breakfast 2019

The announcement was made late this morning by the Spirit of Springfield.

Costa and Thunderbirds hockey players will join volunteers to serve-up the annual breakfast enjoyed by thousands of people along Main Street.

This year's breakfast will be served on Saturday, May 11.

22News reporter Sy Becker was at today's announcement, and he will have a report on plans for the breakfast tonight on 22News at 5:30.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There won’t be a shortage of Pancake Batter for the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast feeding thousands in downtown Springfield Saturday morning.

Mercy Medical Center’s culinary staff spent hours converting flour and water into lots of pancake batter. The Medical center staff has been doing this for years. It takes a lot of flour to make 500 gallons of pancake batter.

Dennis Landry told 22News, “There was a whole skid of pancake batter dropped off, 50 cases, 300 five pound bags, so we have 1500, 5 pound bags, and 150 five pound bags.”

The 500 gallons of pancake batter being kept in a cool place until it’s needed on Main Street Saturday morning.
