Magical Creatures LU part 1

I was really excited to do this, so I ended up doing some that I was more sure of.

Harpy Sky and Minish Four, I tried to make them as characteristic as possible, but I think I'm not very good at it...

Just to remember, this is just to present your designs, I want to draw them interacting and stuff :)

Selkie Legend and Sea Monster Wind, I had to make Wind as one of those, this movie is so cute. And also, in Brazil we have the legend of the "Pink Dolphin" which reminded me a lot of the Selkies, but I wouldn't have the maturity to do that to Legend, because it's also a joke around here.

Maybe you've already noticed, but I don't have many skills in drawing animals, so there may be some things that are anatomically incorrect.

That's it for now, I need help choosing the others, especially Time, I have no idea what to do with him...

ok ok. I KNOW this is very niche. I know. but hear me out. ignoring the obvious forced marriage whump that usually goes along w selkies (yes I know it’s tradition but I don’t feel like getting into those implications rn) — using the pelts for blackmail and/or torture. can they feel what’s done to their pelts? do the injuries transfer, or only the sensation? how far away from their pelt can a selkie go before it starts to hurt? how far can they go before they start to break?

i always find episodes like the ultimate enemy in shows intruiging because its like implied dan destroyed the entire world but like. thats a lot of people. and also places. is dan really going out to like, vanuatu and wreaking stuff. how is iceland going. how is madagascar affected by this. there are so many island nations. like im sure dan could pull off a collapse of most of the world trade network and governments by taking out key infrastructure but people are like cockroaches and this is dan we're talking about could he even point out Mauritius (island nation; population ~1.2 million) on a map

Mikladalur’s Kópakonan on the Faroe Islands Selkies are a variation on the mermaid concept in Scottish, Irish, Icelandic and Faroese folklore. They live in the sea as seals, but can shed their seal hide to become human on land. If their seal skin is hidden or stolen, they are unable to return to the sea. This 9 ft bronze and stainless steel statue of Kópakonan (The Seal Wife) was created by Hans Pauli Olsen and was installed in the Mikladalur Harbor on Kalsoy, one of the Faroe Islands, on August 1st, 2014. map The statue commemorates myths about selkies and in particular two well known myths about the Seal Wife on the Faroe Islands. Selkie stories are traditionally romantic tragedies, with the Selkie in most stories returning to the sea after several years as a Seal Wife to a human, leaving behind the husband and children. One well known story is about a beautiful Selkie trapped by a fisherman on the island of Kalsoy, who hides her seal skin while she is on land one night. Trapped, she becomes his wife and they have 2 children. One day however, he goes fishing and she finds her seal skin hidden in a chest in their home. She escapes back to her Selkie family after ensuring the children are cared for until the fisherman's return. She leaves behind a message to not follow her and to not harm her Selkie family. The fishermen however ignore the warning and end up killing both her Selkie husband and Selkie children. As marsupials, Selkie have a very different growth pattern from mammals. Called 'pups', selkie infants do not gain a name until they are able to ambulate, however clumsily, outside of the male's pouch. They take significantly less time to mature as compared to human children through their development.

A. A selkie egg. Usually laid in a clutch of 1-3, an average of 2 eggs survive incubation in the pouch. Eggs are held in the male selkie's pouch and regularly checked on with the egg remains removed once the pup has hatched. All eggs are uniform in color, only being distinguished by the male's scent which rubs off on them.

B. 0-1 years. The pup must spend all of its time in the male's pouch or risk illness and/or hypothermia since they cannot thermoregulate at this point in development. All of their limbs and tail are undeveloped with only the mouth developed enough to lap from the milk patches inside the male's pouch. Pups sometimes trample their siblings in the pouch but usually both pups will survive if the male is in good health.

C. 2-5 years. Finally able to emerge from the pouch, pups at this age begin to acquire language and mobility. Pups gain their name, becoming 'people' instead of a nameless baby. Pups typically begin speaking with their mouth but learn to utilize their melon for speech as they age; speaking with the mouth is viewed as juveniles or cutsey in selkie culture as a result.

D. 5-9 years. Bulking up, a pup is now fully furred and can learn to swim At this age, selkie pups can finally safely play with humans of a similar age as pups younger then this play very roughly. In Antartica, selkie at this age will begin to learn skills from their parents or talented adults if they are pursuing a particular occupation. Outside Antartica, most selkie will begin attending school.

E. 9-12 years. An adolescent selkie. Hitting puberty, selkie typically experience the usual moodiness and rebelliousness as human teenagers. Usually gangly and misproportioned as they grow, selkie of this age will cover their body more than any other age range to cope with body dysphoria.

F. 13-17 years. A young adult selkie. At this age, selkie are nearly done growing. Females and faeders may have a secondary growth spurt at this stage but otherwise most growth is packing on pounds to stay warm in the polar climate. Selkie who have been apprentices will generally be accepted to informal guilds and solidify their occupation. Unless the selkie is particularly lithe, most lose the ability to leap more than a few inches into the air like their marsupial ancestors.

G. 17-20 years. A fully grown selkie. Barring any hormonal issues, a selkie won't grow in size past this point. Considered to legally be an 'adult' by the age of 17, selkie can start a family, manage their affairs, and leave their family's home.
