750516412672557056 - here's some species! none require deviantart, though lorekeeper species have deviantart as an identification/verification option
AW0005 (18+) - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ some trades & adopt/event notifs. 2 discounted common myos per year. one species with two unique variations (previously two species, now combined into one). frequent prompts, events/activities, and adopts. adopts are somewhat cheap to somewhat pricey, depends
centirolls (mille gateaux bakery world on toyhouse) - toyhouse based, active discord. myos are very cheap, shop only opens sometimes. monthly prompts, some raffles/OTA slots.
cinnaverse - lorekeeper based, extremely active discord w/ some trades. monthly prompts allow 1 myo of any choice to be earned + trait / item prompts as well. semi-frequent event/holiday prompts or activities (a secret santa style design swap happens twice a year). adopts can be semi-cheap to pricey, but most of the time there's only owner-made customs or semi-frequent gachas. resales can be cheap to pricey, most wanting swaps (especially owner-made swaps).
milquilins (18+) - discord based. FTO slots given to those who complete 1 monthly prompt. prompts/flash events give you points to purchase more myos, requires a few to several month grind per slot (depending on flash prompt availability). adopts / customs / resales can be extremely pricey. designs are required / suggested to be on official base, can only have 1 copy of 1 version of official base at a time (meaning you can't create new designs until you have an myo slot and request the specific base type you need)
mothcats - lorekeeper based, extremely active discord w/ some trades. myos are cheap to pricey, trait items are cheap to pricey, but trading is frequent & active users like to spoil/gift others (especially newbies). occasional events / holidays with unique prompts/activities, member/character of the month with rewards, constant currency rewards for any art, permanent exploring/foraging style prompts, permanent site activities (companion/pet activity, positivity activity with myo/trait rewards raffled off, bettering-self style activity of earning points for sticking to a resolution/goal). species used to require all designs be on-base with a specific base, but recently changed it so now any character can be off-base with your own art
plush dragons / plush scouts - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ trades. species with many traits, items, and myo types - often being traded because of how easy they are to be obtained from dailies or activities on the site. monthly prompts, seasonal free gifts, semi-often raffles/giveaways in the discord. adopt prices vary, resale prices vary (older plush dragons are very expensive due to the old owner having high prices in general)
ranebopets - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ some trades. free FTO myo, two stages of characters (baby form and adult form) with adult form granted to a baby character after completing a prompt OR using a bypass item that costs main currency. daily secondary currency collection, can be spent on a token that rolls random probability of items/main currency/traits (good way to casually grind for main currency). frequent holidays with unique prompts/pets/trait items, constant main currency rewards for any art. crafting system, prompt awards, and infrequent adopts as well. adopt prices are somewhat pricey, but often get bought up.
soappuppies - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ trades. semi-open species with free monthly myo + one time purchase bundle of myo and items for discount. currency is easy to obtain via site dailies, often traded for art in discord as well.
spacecats / sodacats / etc - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ trades. multiple species on one site+discord, somewhat messy amount of myos/items often traded on discord. trades are easiest option to gain myos/items, but can be purchased for very cheap in discord as well. adopts often very cheap, and frequent due to breeding batches.
terraliens - discord + lorekeeper based, reviving after a downfall recently. semi-friendly to FTO's / penny pinchers, but trading is often not worth it (everyone is asking for outrageous trades). somewhat often raffles (some specifically for FTO's). prompts can be completed for currency to buy myos + daily foraging grants secondary currency (and trait items rarely), can purchase myo slots during sales once a month with secondary currency (two flaffle sales per month, can only win one per month). trades for items/currency are very active, many people looking to trade their things for art
pacapillars - lorekeeper based, active discord w/ trades. one-time buyable myos on site for slight discounts. currency can be grinded from prompts + 1 daily that gives minimal currency. most currency gained from farm/coop/barn feature. most users gladly purchase art/ychs in the discord for currency though, i suggest doing that if possible! adopts can be pricey to very pricey, resales can be cheap to very pricey (or difficult as some people want outrageous trades or only swaps)
puppillars - lorekeeper based, active discord. free welcome gift, free FTO myo for secondary species (snailcat), one time purchase discounted puppillar myo. constant currency reward for any art, very frequent events/holidays with event shops (including buyable myos/traits). very cheap to cheap myos/adopts/customs. owner often opens trade/OTA adopts/customs, guest artists sometimes do as well. foraging/exploring style prompts and activities
puppoppies - discord based, semi-active deviantart posts (adopts, event announcements, etc). everything happens on the discord, but may be mentioned on deviantart for promoing. has official wix site for info/guides/etc. very frequent events, constant currency reward for any art, active trades of premades / adopts. adopts / customs are very cheap to somewhat cheap, owner made included
war paint demons (18+) - discord/toyhouse based, some trades in discord. discounted FTO myo, for species currency or usd (myo shop isn't constantly open). constant currency rewards for any art, monthly prompts, occasional events/activities/raffles.
world of lingua (paralogos & wifflings) - lorekeeper, active discord w/ some trades. monthly prompts, occasional events/holidays, member/character of the month with rewards, constant currency rewards for any art. two different species with unique currency for both, currency can be transmuted into the other via shop though. frequent adopts & semi-frequent pound adopts (aka designs created and added to the pound system, where you purchase with species currency)
wow! 🍋

back again to say there's something very interesting about the way the way particularly Antivalists talk about the citadel as if they're dirtying or disrespecting the seeming inherent purity of magic. Not the way they are exploiting great spirits, because yeah, that's abhorrent. But specifically the disdain for the magic going from "divine" to "mundane", specifically because they have harnessed the lingua arcana for themselves and their mortal goals.
But like, where is the divinity in Ame's cock ring in episode 1? Where is the divinity in using a Bag of Holding to carry your presentation materials, like Tefmet does? Why is it ok for those of the Spirit world to use magic to harm others and further their goals, but its not alright for mortals to do the same? To reiterate, I'm not talking about trapping great spirits, their relationship to the Empire, or any of the other things the Citadel is responsible for. There's a way that Tefmet talked about the Citadel using magic that sounded a lot less like "stop abusing spirits" and a lot more like "only those Worthy and Divine should be able to use magic". Which is the specific thing a lot of people take up issue with the Citadel for saying to some extent, so what gives?
They keep talking about the Citadel bringing about the end of the world, but my mind keeps going VAGUE, UNSPECIFIC, VAGUE AGAIN. If they trap a great spirit, what's their plan? They were using Naram to create rings of Water Breathing, so we can maybe guess military weapons. But for who? Galthmai/Ruve? Ok, that's not the end of the world. I don't agree with the principal of that, but it feels a little suspicious now that the Man in Black, who is working close with Ruve, would be railing specifically against the Citadel, their enemy.
TL;DR: I'm with the argument that the Citadel has overextended their ambition and done horrific things in the name of the Empire's war. But when witches and Antivalists, who are imperfect magic users that act of their own accord, argue that the way the Citadel has used the lingua arcana for domestic, ordinary use is wrong, I just can't agree. I need more proof that they are actually disrupting the sanctity of magic, or that that is something that actually exists. I also need more proof and specifics on what the Citadel's giant evil plan actually is, lol.

I am so fucking easy, though. Dear Lord in Heaven I am so fucking easy when it comes to German metal. Swear to God the world is ending but if I get in my car and I hear "RATATATA" -- this is completely true -- if I get in my car and I hear "RATATATA" then that means I still can pull this shit around somehow

Tired: The Sangheili speak only one language.
Inspired: The Covenant privileged one Sangheili language while suppressing all other Sangheili languages and dialects. Many died out, but there are others that might be able to recover now that the Covenant is gone.

Asari Parents, Gendered Titles & Linguistic Pet Peeves
I need to talk about something that has always frustrated me about Mass Effect and the fandom.
Asari wouldn't have words like "mother" and "father". They. Would. Not! Liara's "My father, if you want to use that word..." or Shepard's confusion when Aethyta calls herself Liara's "father" make no sense.
Unless you assume that they're speaking to Shepard in perfect English? But why would they be? What we get told in game is that each alien speaks their own language but they have automatic translators. But if Liara and Aethyta are speaking in the Asari lingua franca they would be, by default, using non-gendered terms. It would make sense that Asari have a word that means "birth parent" and "non-birth parent/genetic parent" in order to describe that person's biological relationship to the child, but those words would not have any gendered connotation at all. It would be like saying "biological parent" or "adoptive parent". Titles that describe a kind of parenthood but make no reference to gender. So, if they're speaking in the Asari tongue, it'd make no sense that they know that for humans there can be a gendered distinction and they mention that to Shepard (maybe, maybe, when Aethyta says "I didn't pop her out" re: Liara, it's because the Asari words that got translated to her from what Shepard says is something about how she is the Asari term for "birth mother" but even then, it doesn't make sense throughout the whole conversation). They're speaking to Shepard as if they have gendered terms in their language which makes no sense.
And, let's say all three of these characters are speaking the same language (which I assume people in the ME universe would do, nuances are always lost in translation), they would not choose fucking English, or any human language for that matter as a way to communicate, they would be speaking in whatever the most common Asari language is. Asari are arguably the most powerful species in the galaxy? Why would they use a human tongue as their way to communicate with humans? It's humans who probably have to learn at least one of the main Council races' languages throughout their education. That's a must. Think of how people from different countries often default to speaking English. Here they would default to speaking the Asari tongue.
But even if they were speaking English... there's a gender neutral term for "father" here. It's "parent". This is the 22nd century, I know these games are over a decade old but like I don't understand how they can make good points re: how Asari would not understand the human concept of gender but then not think how that means they don't use gendered words in their language? And how humans would obviously know this?
It's just... very lazy worldbuilding? And I know it's only a tidbit but it's personally very annoying to me. And it's only possible if you're a monolingual English-speaking American and think everything works like it works for you and everything is governed by the same rules that you live by. Which, while I understand all of this is subconscious, makes for shoddy worldbuilding.
And it's not just the devs, these English-centric ideas permeate the fandom as well. I have seen more than once femshep Shiara fic where it's post-war and they have/are going to have biological children and Shepard is like "I don't want to be called 'father', I want them to call me 'mother' " and it's this nice affirming moment but realistically Liara would be like "??? But you're not giving birth?" because to her these words have no gender at all and Shepard wanting to call herself "birth mother" is like her calling herself "four legged" when she has two legs. Because again, it'd be a purely biological gender-neutral concept.
Tldr; English-speaking people widen your thinking challenge.
