Cell phone addiction | Psychology based blog | By Mentoons |
CELL PHONE ADDICTION
A cell phone is important as it gives unlimited access to information and a mode of connecting with others but obsessive use is harmful. The behavioral addiction is called ‘Nomophobia’ which means ‘No mobile phone phobia’, that is, fear of having no cell phone.
Signs of phone addiction:
1. You wake up multiple times at night to check your phone.
2. The first thing you do when you are bored or alone is used your cell phone.
3. Feeling anxious or stressed when you cannot use the cell phone.
4. You may trip or get injured while using your phone.
5. It affects your performance at the workplace, school, or in relationships.
6. Limiting the use of the phone is difficult.
7. Thinking about the phone is buzzing even when it is not.
Negative effects of cell phone addiction:
1. 1.  Physical effects:
·       The strain on the eyes as viewing digital screens for more than two hours can cause pain, discomfort to the eyes. This can lead to burning, itchiness, blurry vision, and headache.
·       Neck pain resulting from continuously looking down at cell phone.
·       Texting or talking on the phone while driving or walking on the road can lead to accidents which can cause serious injuries.
1. 2.  Psychological effects
·       Lack of sleep or insomnia by using a cell phone before bed, the bright light decreases sleep as it activates the brain.
·       Depression and anxiety.
·       Problems in handling relationships because people spend more time on a cell phone than with their partners.
·       Low concentration at workplace or school.
Ways to reduce cell phone addiction:
·       Turn off the notifications.
·       Keep your phone in a bag.
·       Delete the apps that distract you the most.
·       Don’t charge the phone near your bed.
·       Put your phone away when you enter the home.
·       Turning off the phone while going to bed.
·       Use a smartwatch instead of a phone for checking time and other things.

A Growth mindset is better for your health than a Fixed mindset | Steps to have a growth mindset | By Mentoons
A GROWTH MINDSET IS BETTER FOR YOUR HEALTH THAN A FIXED MINDSET
Sometimes you might try something new and give up just because you could not do it right away. In such a case, you will feel disappointed, frustrated, embarrassed, or even angry.
Those feelings can increase in children, which is why it's critical to cultivate the appropriate mindset early on and encourage kids to keep working towards big dreams.
We all have ideas about our own potential and ability. These ideas are a part of our mindset, which is so powerful that they may influence our actions and predict our outcomes. Our everyday lives are shaped by our mindset, which aids us in interpreting our past experiences and future prospects.
Having a proper mindset can make you work hard with good strategies and you will be motivated and innovative.
An individual with a growth mindset will worry less about looking smart and put more energy into learning. When children practice a growth mindset, they feel far more empowered and committed to the task they are doing which includes playing outdoor games, participating in extracurricular activities, viewing challenges with more enthusiasm, and learning new skills. Along the way, they'll improve their problem-solving abilities, curiosity, and confidence.
A growth mindset helps us all push through that tricky phase of learning when we want to give up.
Growth mindset is freedom:
1. Perseveres in the face of failures.
2. Effort is needed to create new skills.
3. Finds inspiration in others' success.
4. Accepts criticism.
5. Desires to learn.
6. Builds abilities.
A fixed mindset is limiting:
1. Avoids challenges.
2. Ignores feedback.
3. Threatened by others' success.
4. Desires to look smart.
5. Gives up easily.
6. Fixed abilities.
Steps to have a growth mindset:
Step 1: Share Your Experiences
Step 2: Discuss Feelings
Step 3: Set a New Goal
Step 4: Use the Power of Yet
Step 5: Observe change from a hard and fast to growth attitude
Step 6: Display Visuals as Everyday Reminders
Step 5: Discuss How Growth Mindset appears, Feels, and Sounds
It is important to teach children that kids with a growth mindset have a “can do” attitude. Instead of, “I can’t do it,” “I’m just not good at this,” and “This is too hard. Children with a growth mindset say, “I may not be able to focus it, yet,” “This is hard, but I will try,” and “I can learn how to do this!”
Individuals who believe in their growth mindset tend to achieve more than those who have a fixed mindset (who believe their talents are innate gifts).
It is hard to fail but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.
Keep going, keep growing!

The lost art of focus: being distracted in a digital world | By Mentoons
The lost art of focus: being distracted in a digital world
Every 12 minutes, we check our phones, often right after waking up. Long-term mental health is harmed by always-on behavior, and we must learn to hit the stop button.
It's impossible to imagine life before electronic gadgets. Now, we are controlled by technologies and "turned on" our personal and professional lives, making us available all the time, crucially, easily distracted, and interrupted every second of the day.
These constant breaks of our time and focus have become the new normal, to which we have easily adjusted, but there is a drawback: an increasing number of specialists are warning us that these interruptions and distractions are eroding our ability to focus.
Kids are going through a lot of trauma in their life and they don't share with others as their interactions with people are reducing because kids nowadays are glued to electronic gadgets. I'm sure you will agree with me. Recent research suggests that 65℅ of young children are using their gadgets frequently. Nowadays kids do not sleep properly; they eat more junk foods and forget the benefits of traditional foods. This can impact your kid's health.
Through our workshops in Mentoons, we are here to create a change in your kid's life. We ensure that your kid will get motivated and focus more on their studies.
They will maintain to eat healthy by reducing the intake of junk foods. They will show interest to participate in every single opportunity in life. You can watch your kid understand the emotions of others and respond accordingly. We ensure that your kid will learn to manage time, build relationships and make more friends, respect elders, learn good habits, solve problems on their own and they will have a clear focus on life. Moreover, you will feel much more relaxed and have time for yourself as your kid is responsible.
All these can make your kid come out of the virtual world and connect with the reality of life.
