#working with limited gifs bc nothing is loading

hi lourders! do you have any gif tutorials for beginners? i tried searching on your blog to not bother you but nothing showed up :(

Okay so I looked for the tutorial i had made in my other blog but it's not updated so

GIF TUTORIAL: argentinagp version - example this gif ⬇️

So for starters, of course, you get your source material: the video. What I use for F1 is: 4kdownloader for youtube videos, some instagram/twitter/tiktok downloader, I torrent dts and I screenrecord with OBS (here are my settings) for some longer youtube videos or the post sessions interviews!

Then you need to get your video in photoshop, there are some ways on doing this, but what I do now is open the video directly: [file -> open...] and then click on the video you want to gif. Once it loads it should look like this

Now you need to adjust the speed of the videos, I put it at 50% if it is not screen recorded, and if it is, I put it at 60% most of the time (other times 50% too)

After that I crop the video, I use W: 540px and any height (beware that more height, the file wheights more, and tumblr has a limit of 10mb), I usually go for 540 x 380 or 540 x 400!

after this you will have to convert the video group to smat object:

Now comes one of the most important parts: SHARPENING!!!!!!!!! What I do here is [Filter -> Sharpen -> Smart Sharpen]

Now you a window will pop up and I use the following settings for starters:

Then I duplicate that layer and in this second one I use the following settings and I change the opacity to 50%:

Then I color the gif for that I use:

CURVES: Okay so this one I use to control a little the big 3 colors and give the gif a bit more light. The thing I do for starters is click on the "D" element and click on a a part of a gif that is the most lighter and then change fron "RGB" to red, blue and green and play around w the "I" element to control the colors a bit.

EXPOSURE: here is basically shadows and highlights. I play around till im okay w how the gif looks! Exposure and gamma correction in positive numbers and offset in negative (the photo is for the names, do not pay attention to these numbers)

SELECTIVE COLOR: okay, lowkey, one of my fave tools. What I do w this always is put more black so the light parts come more alive and the dark parts dont look pixelated! Sometimes, when the skin is too red or too yellow I play around w those colors too and see if I can fix it.

HUE/SATURATION: here basically is giving life to some colors, specially the lips (inspired by @princemick). But basically you put the color you want to pop up/change/make black and play w it. Important part if u want to play w the lips is using the slider in the bottom to make only the most red/pink part of the gif to saturate, bc if u dont change that the face can also saturate!

and sometimes color balance (did not use it in these gif), this one is basically if curves and selective color did not work for me, i just play around w it till i like it

Then, final step, you export the gif [File -> Export -> Save for Web Legacy...] and my settings on the open window is the following one:

and VOILÁ! your gif is done!

Frank probably found you while wandering around. whether because he was trying to find a lead, or just walking to think, it doesn't matter.

it's not even a big meeting, you just walked by him and he just stopped and stared. you obviously didn't notice, too busy thinking- about what?- and continued on to wherever you were heading.

he didn't stop staring until you had left, but it didn't leave his mind. you didn't leave his mind.

At first, he thought it was because you reminded him of something, his family, an old friend, he couldn't tell. so he mostly ignored it. but it kept coming back to him, and he was almost annoyed on how nagging it was in his mind. you were such a distraction to him, a burden almost, and yet you were something he wanted to find.

and so, almost like a side mission, he started to also patrol for you. he didn't outright try to look for you, as he almost knew that wouldn't help his curiosity, but it was something to help ease his mind.

of course he either a) found you and his almost obsession like curiosity turned sicko mode quick, or b) he couldn't find you and ended up just going to find you himself.

he started watching you whenever he had spare time. he kept notes on how you behaved, who you were, what you liked, what you disliked. it was almost a game for him: each time he would spy on you, he would bet himself on how many new things he could learn about you.

soon enough, he no longer felt guilt or an aberration to his schedule for these feelings. he did take a step back to try and figure out why. however, those few days of thinking made him...bored, almost. he wasn't finding out new things about you. he wasn't looking for you everywhere. he wasn't watching you.

so he started to watch you again. and it almost became a problem, had it not been for his obsession hitting its limit of no contact.

he started making himself known by appearing randomly, only for a second, before disappearing again. it was almost normal for you now: to see a man out of the corner of your eye for a split moment, but when you turn to look, there's nothing there.

You almost feel stupid for a while: have you been staying up too late? is it your work load? or is there actually someone following you?

you start second guessing yourself, especially when other people seem to not find what you're talking about.

but oh boy, were you in for a ride.

I think frank would definitely kidnap you after a point, but he would also do so earlier than expected, if he feels like your getting away from him, bring in someone who actually knows him (daredevil would be one where he would just up and take you), or you are, god forbid, doing adult things.

and by adult things, you could go to a bar and he would be the most paranoid fuck there. he knows what people can do, and you're young, you don't know whats good for you!

when he does kidnap you, I think he would try and come up with a safe house for you. like anywhere where he thinks no one could get you.

but that's also if he decided that beforehand, and not when he was in a paranoid bout of his.

if he did kidnap you in a paranoid bout, he would just keep you in his bedroom, whether that be just his whole house, or if he decides to actually get a house.

by either standards, it’s gonna be tough.

with the pre-planned kidnappings, he's just gonna be awkward for the first few weeks. he'll sometimes just stare into the room with food for a few seconds, walk up, give it to you, and then leave.

with the sudden kidnappings, he does the same thing, but he will take the L and sleep on the floor with a blanket and a pillow so you can be comfortable. or a couch, if he has one at that moment.

he's also very paranoid about you leaving either way, so he definitely installs cameras into your area of the place. or, any area where you're able to access.

another thing he would definitely do is hide his weapons. all of them. he is, again, a paranoid man and is worried you'll use them to escape and leave him.

does not get into the father stuff until months after. from his own kids' experience or just awkwardness, he just flops everytime he tries, and your screaming/crying/curing at him is not helping him.

when he does open up, though, it's almost refreshing. for the past few months, its just been this huge fucking dude who gives you food, lets you live in his house, and lets you have (semi) privacy, which was all against your will, and you were wondering what he was planning on doing to you. horrible scenarios would go through your mind every day, wondering if he was just trying to gain your trust. maybe to break it once his stupid game was over?

accepting the fact that you're never going to leave was a hard pill to swallow, but it went down either way. even if you did, frank would know. oh boy, would he know.

and he wouldn't be pleased. he knows exactly who you are, what you would do, as those notes from beforehand? they come in handy when trying to find his darling, as they run. to where? will it be their old home? their fake, fraudulent family? their friends?

did you even have any? actually, he'll also try to make it so that you believe everything in your old life is dead, or never existed. brenda was never your friend, she wanted to use you. your parents never existed, I am your father, are you ok.

that last one would be a last resort, but still.

frank wouldn't realize how bad his obsession was until the last minute, or until the last minute. and even then, he couldn't deny himself of just this: he knows what's best for you, right? even if you couldn't see it, he would show you.

so uh... take 20 🤡 hi guys it’s gemma ( s/h, 21+ ) bringing u mr anger management issues, park jaehyun! he’s a pretty old, heavily recycled muse of mine so some of you prob recognise him by now, but his roots are from a mutant rp from ages ago so i’m rlly glad it’s come full circle! anw he’s basically a bit of a criminal, constantly in and out of the correctional facility and one thing ab him is he’s gna hate aeternals w a Passion 🤙 under the cut is a not really tl;dr cause his bio is too stinkin long, but as alw, please LIKE this post to plot! thx fam ♡

born to aeternal parents! mom had superstrength like him and dad had some psionic power but they d*ed when he was p young so honestly he doesn’t know much ab them

anw he was a really difficult kid 👅 he’s always had this v destructive rage n coupled w his strength, it made it really hard for anyone other than his mom to handle and raise him which was obv limited bc she was busy w work

not to mention both his parents d*e when he’s ~4 when they’re off on aeternal duty and he basically gets promised a bunch of shit bc it made the people up there feel a lil better ab themselves ( spoiler alert: it’s all a load of bull espc when they find out he requires more attn than usual )

when they decide they’ve done enough for the guilt to subside, they send him off to live w his maternal grandmother in the jeong district who has superstrength too! she’s got a speech disability but even besides that she doesn’t rlly communicate w him much so it’s a huge contrast to how he was raised, espc since he alw found his mom’s voice v soothing 😩 she loves him a lot but she’s also old, tired, n did not sign up to raise a kid so whenever he misbehaves she j smacks him w a slipper n tells him like... stop tf lol

so yeah he gets a little out of hand... jaehyun feels a lot of entitlement and it comes from what he perceives as being robbed by life!! like before his parents kicked the bucket he was on track yknow, had great, respectable parents who raised him the way he needed to be, lived in aeternity homes up in posh elysium hill, people prob cooed at him as a kid n one day he’s tossed to the jeong district n people r lookin at the kid like he’s a dirty thieving rat and on top of that, the authorities assure him it’s fine, he’ll be taken care of, everything’s going to be ok then peaced out so yeah he’s gonna feel a lil angry

so anw this entitlement led to him stealing a Lot and there’s two npcs ( aeternity mako and aeternity tekki ) who are alw on his case!!! aeternal mako knew his parents so he’s a lil softer on jaehyun, kinda reprimands him when he’s caught stealing but doesn’t rlly lodge much of a report, but aeternal tekki is a bit weirder n likes to pick on kids bc he's got nothing better to do w his life and is a loser

jae’s 17 when he gets locked up and it’s bc he stole aeternal tekki’s car cause fuck that guy : ) aeternal mako’s retired by this point so jae gets no mercy in aeternal tekki’s hands and he’s sent to the correctional facility for a year

comes out and realises how much harder life can be now that he’s got mark on his record : ( to his credit, he manages to get a job in the junkyard and works for his grandma’s bakery ( this one is more like a favour, he doesn’t accept anyth she pays him ) and eventually finds out ab daemon’s underground fighting ring! alm kills a guy on his first day but he’s so strong the people love him so they pay him big bucks to come back

but yeah the younger sib of the fighter he nearly kills finds him and tries to beat him up in his rage n sorrow n jae isn’t careful enough w his strength, so he accidentally hurts the kid while defending himself and gets caught on one count of assault + using his unlicensed powers ( wild considering he can’t turn it off n it literally is part of him but anw ) n gets sent back to the correctional facility for 3y, considering his prev record

when he comes out he finds out a lot of shit has changed in 3y, his grandma had to sell her bakery bc her competitor was spreading rumours that her grandson was out here beating up kids do yall rlly wanna support a bakery that supports that wack so her business dwindled n she needs to sell the bakery or it’ll put her in debt : ) jae feels hella guilty for being the cause of it n for not being there when it mattered, so he tries to teach em a lesson and pummels the ground until there’s a lil earthquake n the bakery’s levelled

so yea h he’s back in the correctional facility for 6y and is prob threatened w banishment if he ever fucks up again!! not in the bio but his grandma had a stroke while he was in the correctional facility so now he’s trying to be on his best behaviour bc he doesn’t wanna be banished from eden and not be there to care for her....... yeah </3

present day he’s a junkyard worker still since they’re basically the only ones who’ll give him work!! he also fights in daemon and he’s actly rlly good bc of his strength, so he’s paid rlly well there but it’s mostly going to his grandma’s hospital bills ♡

in terms of personality i would say jae has rlly poor impulse control and it does not take even the daftest person v long to realise he’s got some anger issues..... maybe it’s the way he speaks like he’s spitting or the way he says fuck like every sentence,, or it’s def his reputation if ur muse knows of it

jae is rlly in his mind his business era but if u piss him off he will have a personal vendetta against u... like honestly a lot of the shit he does is not so much j reactive but it’s bordering on j... unnecessary? like he did not need to go n make an earthquake j cause they spread some rumours n he did not need to be stealing cars j bc the person who owns it looked at him the wrong way so yeah he’s a bit of a drama king

he’s also sorta egotistical, cannot be held accountable for anyth ever so yeah he’s a real hit w the ladies bc let’s not pretend we don’t know it’s the toxic men that have our queens in a chokehold

he’s spent a total of 10y in the correctional facility so he prob would’ve met anyone who’s been locked up too!! i imagine jae was sorta minding his business but i can def see him being part of a clique ( yknow how prisons have those ) so yeah!! was ur muse part of his or against?? or j a nomad??

speaking of correctional facility, he prob also spent a lot of time in community service @ butterfly island so!!! anyone who has any business there hmu!!

i’d love to see some childhood friends from elysium hill, like maybe both ur parents were aeternals or smth n u guys were besties n now ur life trajectory is so diff... it’d be cool to explore this contrast!!

alternatively would love to see high sch friends from the jeong district!! jae is rlly extroverted and he was those kids who bullies other kids into letting him copy their hw, blatantly disrespects the teacher n is havin a nine course feast at the back of the class, skips sch regularly ( he could even have convinced ur muse to skip class back in the day teehee )

i’d also love to see someone who cared for jae’s grandma when he was alw away @ the correctional facility!! maybe yall met when she was still running her bakery n shit but i thought it’d be a really cute connection to have!!

here’s an updated tutorial on how i make my gifs!

featuring: oikawa tooru from haikyuu!!

what i will be using:

- photoshop CC 2017 - handbrake (x) - a media player (i use vlc and that’s what i will be referring to)

note: i’m on windows 10 so if you have a mac, the interface may look different.

1. i would like to thank sue for introducing me to handbreak bc it makes my life a whole lot easier :)

2.  this may contain grammatical errors as i made this tutorial  at 12am (if you added me on snapchat you’d know). i have no idea why 12am out of all times…

okay, now on to the tutorial :)

STEP 1: ISOLATING THE SCENE

using: vlc media player and handbrake

so here i have my video in vlc media player (haikyuu!! - s2 ep 6)

i’m just going to the exact scene that i want, making note of the timestamp near the play button.

after i’ve found my scene, i open up handbrake and choose “file” as my source selection. you want to pick the same video file you used for vlc media player.

now that i have my file selected and it’s the right one, i can insert the time of the start of the scene and the time at the end of the scene here:

tip: record a few seconds before and after the scene you want to isolate. this ensures the you have the full scene intact and you aren’t missing any frames.

tip: make sure the scene is under 5 minutes or else it will take a while to download. i think that 30 seconds is enough to completely capture a scene.

when you are saving a file in handbrake, you need to create a destination path. mine is just located in my kmplayer capture folder (bc that’s where all my old psds are), but you can determine where you want to put yours on your own. make sure to give the file a name as you are saving. 

you can also do that in the destination bar.

now we are at the output settings. here are my settings that i use:

you want to save all your files as an mp4 file because that will definitely work on photoshop as i will be using convert video frames to layers (photoshop is not compatible with mkv files, a format that is abundant among anime)

you want the quality to be lossless because that produces the highest quality video.

i know there is a subtitle tab, but i’ve never had any issues with my videos (with subtitles) having subs after it’s been encoded, so i wouldn’t bother messing with it.

even if your video is already in an mp4 format, you want to use this to get the scene you want. if you go into photoshop with a 24 minute long episode, you will find it harder to get the exact scenes you want with photoshop’s crappy sliders.

i know there is another way of getting clips via vlc media player’s record function, but i tried to do it and couldn’t get it to work. for me, handbrake is the easiest way to isolate scenes.

okay! we can finally download our video file!

up at the top, there is a bar highlighted in blue.

start encode: begins to convert/process your new video file. if there is nothing in the queue, press this button.

add to queue: when you’re currently encoding something, “start encode” will transform into a “stop encode” so you use “add to queue”  when there are more scenes you want to encode. once the preceding file is done being encoded, the next one will start.

show queue: displays everything that needs to be encoded or is currently being encoded

when your file is done, go to where you saved the video and it will be there!

STEP 2: MAKING THE GIF

using: photoshop

go to file > import > video frames to layers.

then load the video file you created in handbrake.

as i said before, you want to have bit of the scene before and after the actual scene you want to gif.

if photoshop brings you this pop-up:

do not click continue. press cancel and use the 2 trim controls to condense the range. remember to include frames from before and after the scene you want to gif. you can also limit it to every 2 frames as this will get rid of duplicates and reduce the frame count.

btw: this is from kimi no na wa. the haikyuu video wasn’t long enough lol.

after clicking okay, photoshop will look something like this:

basically, you will have a frame animation with the timing already set for you.

now i will just delete excess frames, layers, and crop my gif to be 540px.

i know it’s not important to delete layers you aren’t using, but it makes file saving so much faster, which is why i highly suggest you delete anything you wont be using.

here is what i have now:

please please PLEASE make sure to save your files!!! especially if it’s something you know you’ll be working on later. this just allows for reediting and if you accidentally mess something up, you can always go back into the psd and fix it.

so that’s basically it for making the gif! now i’m just going to

color my gif

add my watermark

convert my frames to a timeline animation

select all my layers and convert them to a smart object (select them, then right-click for convert to smart object)

apply my sharpening and blur filters

save for web

i always group my adjustment layers so that my layers panel looks neater.

now it’s time to save the file as a gif by going to file > save for web.

sometimes i use diffusion, other times i use pattern; it really depends on what the gif looks like. if there’s a noticeable gradient in the gif (x), then i will use pattern over diffusion as the banding will not be as noticeable and everything will look smooth. 

if you want a comparison between the 2, in this tutorial, the very first gif is saved with diffusion while the very last gif is saved with pattern. there’s truly not much of a difference (the pattern gif may be a little darker) except this:

the file size is wayyy lower. this won’t always be the case in using pattern over diffusion so don’t automatically choose pattern over diffusion.

always go preview your gif in save for web to see what it would look like after it’s saved if you’re unsure about the timing of the gif. just go to save for web and click on the preview option. that will give you a good idea of how your gif will run when it’s finished. i recommend doing this after you’ve converted the frame animation to a timeline animation.

and now you’re done :)

i would highly recommend you make actions out of processes you do often (like cropping) and give them a keyboard shortcut.

keep your gifs under 3mb

always crop to tumblr’s current width dimensions (x). height is not a big deal, but if you find that your gif is over 3mb, cropping the height will lessen the file size.

if you have a very long scene, or one with lots of movement, consider limiting the frame capturing to every 2 frames. this just gets rid of duplicates and lessens the amount of frames you have, thereby reducing the gif’s file size (i’m sure i said it up there somewhere).

keep in mind that blurring reduces a file size and sharpening increases a file size. you may want to change your settings if you are just over the size limit.
