Maybe she’s aware of his machinations, once she knows how to spot it. Maybe she doesn’t know how to feel about him manipulating her that way, when he knows her past, knows how words have been twisted and abused her whole life. But she gives in, agrees (with a sigh) to “quality family time” — and when he turns to grin at her, beaming to rival their youngest brother’s brightest smile, she remembers how fiercely she loves this true family of hers, how far she’s willing to go for their happiness, and how wholly and unrelentingly they love her in return.
