Zippy Review: Is it worth your money?
So… if you know that viral traffic is the bees knees when it comes to marketing, why aren’t you doing more of it? Or even if you are using it in your marketing strategies, why are you working with so many tools to get the results you’re getting?
Did you know you’re only one click away from getting hundreds of free viral visitors in as little as 60 seconds which in turn let you enjoy sales 24/7 and live a life of total freedom?
If that sounds exciting, listen up and here’s why Billy and his team have built an incredible first of its kind software that lets you harness the power of viral marketing without any of the complicated boring tech stuff. It’s literally as easy as one click
That’s where Zippy comes into play. You’ll have a ton of tools at your fingertips that replaces most of the tools you use to get free viral visitors. There’s a ton of things that Zippy can do, (which you can see at the previous parts of this Zippy Review).
Zippy gets you hundreds of free visitors that multiply leveraging the power of viral marketing. In other words, it gets you traffic which continues to increase on autopilot. It’s literally a case of set forget and laugh to the bank. This is truly a breakthrough in the marketplace
No more fiddling about with expensive software that requires a serious learning curve. All joking aside, if you’re serious about taking your traffic to another level this year, then you owe it to yourself to get a copy of Zippy while the price is incredibly low.
From my perspective, there are several reasons why you need to grab Zippy right now.
Initially, Zippy is 100% fueled by FREE traffic. Undoubtedly, traffic is considered as the lifeblood of any online businesses. If you don’t have any traffic on your website, you don’t have anybody to convert.
But with this all-inclusive system, you would absolutely say goodbye to the days of wasting your time & money for traffic. It will help you tap into hoards of free traffic as well as prevent you from spending a lot of money on buying traffic.
Besides, the software is so SIMPLE and powerful so that ANYONE, even if you are NEW to this whole “internet software”, you can use this software and get results.
To make sure you can maximize the ability of Zippy, it offers you the detailed training that helps you discover all of the ins and outs of the system. Especially, you also get atraining that shows you how to make real money.
But that’s not all. You will be shocked when you know its price that I will tell you in the next part. The vendors offer you a gigantic discount in comparison with what it contains. Believe me, this is definitely cost-effective and worth money investment for you.
Right now however, Zippy is available at a serious discount so you’ll want to head over and check it out before the time runs out and the price goes up.
You’re probably thinking that this unique first of its kind viral software is very expensive and you’d be right to think that. Considering most life-changing software not only started around $97 but typically have a monthly fee too, so it would be fair to charge you at least $97 a month for this…
But today you won’t be paying $97/Month. You won’t even be paying $67/month, not even $47/month. When you act during the limited launch period, you won’t be paying monthly at all.
In fact they’re going to give you an amazing bargain which means today you can get in for a one-time price without any monthly fees. It’s literally less than the price of a large pizza.
And it gets better when you act now, you’ll also get five brand new premium bonuses worth thousands absolutely free.

The Art of Discount (Part 1): Consumer Discount
Businesses often spend a lot of money to build programs to attract customers, typically using discounts. Because discounts - including all forms of discounts on sales - are one of the most obvious methods of creating value for customers to lead them to a decision to buy a product. However, not the more the discount, the more effective it is. With a consumer discount program , it's important to know where your audience is in their consumer journey. Thinking of a sales support program is not difficult, but how to make it effective is an artistic sky.
Discount and its benefits
Discount programs are generally used for three main goals: (1) Clearing inventory, (2) Attracting new buyers, and (3) Realizing revenue targets during off-season sales.
Why can discounting help businesses achieve these goals? Because it offers the following benefits:
Attract new customers effectively without launching a massive marketing campaign;
Encourage shoppers to make immediate purchasing decisions – especially effective when promotions are limited in time;
Push past period inventory or products nearing expiration date;
The product is highly likely to be promoted by the point of sale at no cost;
Pull inactive/inactive consumers to buy again.
The problem of discounting
Sales discounts have long been used to incentivize purchases and create a competitive advantage over other brand products at the point of sale. While discounting isn't a new tool, it always works – when marketers use it right.
However, an age-old problem with marketers is that they often apply discounts to every audience without considering what stage each audience is at in the buying journey.
Reference : Ladder model to analyze market share loss in the article What is the market? What is Marketing? Market share method to see which stage in the buying journey is the biggest problem causing you to lose market share.
So the solution is that we have to balance the timing - frequency of making discounts and determining the specific audience that your program is aimed at.
Build a discount program for consumers
Discounts should not be applied to everyone. I can't say which type of discount is best for your business. But I can suggest you how to implement those programs effectively.
There are countless ways to vary the discount program for consumers. But it has to be done wisely. At the same time, any discount strategy must be based on business goals and suitable for each buyer.
Plan before you make a discount
Before making product price cuts to achieve revenue goals, you need to make a detailed plan for the program. This is necessary to make sure that subsequent orders are still profitable. Accordingly, the issues you need to pay attention to are:
Know current gross margin, markup, breakeven point;
Calculate the best discount price to ensure profit;
Have an action plan to incentivize new buyers and boost purchase incentives for hesitant customers;
Survey programs and prices of competitors regularly;
Consider other selling options without cutting prices (more on that later);
Determining the time to apply the new sales price;
Monitor weekly, monthly, or yearly reporting metrics as sales decline.
How to set a revenue target when doing a discount program?
When adjusting the selling price of goods/services, it is important to know how this change will affect your gross margin and sales target. A successful sales program – that is, acquiring customers, while keeping profits – needs to be implemented with careful and careful calculation of gross margin, markup and breakeven point.
How to balance the above factors is not easy. Business Victoria, a business portal for the Victorian government (Australia) has released a spreadsheet that makes it easier for businesses to set revenue targets when making sales discounts.
HOLY RECIPE
If the price drops…And gross profit margin (%) is…
0%15%20%25%30%35%40%
5% 50.0%33.3%25%20%16.7%14.3%
6%150%66.7%42.9%31.6%25%20.7%17.6%
8%400%114.3 %66.7%47.1%36.4%29.6%25%
ten% 200%100%66.7%50%40%33.3%
twelfth% 400%150%92.3%66.7%52.2%42.9%
15% 300%150%100%75%60%
For example, with a gross profit margin of 20%, you reduce the price of a product by 10%, then the target sales need to increase by 100% to ensure a profit.
Suggest a discount program for consumers1. Discount for new customers
Sometimes when we need to expand product lines, enter new segments, or simply boost sales, we have to find a way to attract new customers. This work often consumes a lot of resources to "lead" this object to a purchase decision.
Therefore, a discount program to close the target at the Purchase stage needs to be properly implemented. When building a program for new customers, it's important to:
– Define target specific customer segments : We know we need to find new customers, but do not know who the new customers are. What's more harmful than a program targeting the wrong audience? What could be more wasteful and less effective than a program aimed at too broad a group?
– Personalize the program message: Once the target area is located, the next thing is to make sure that the target group realizes this offer is only for them, is their own EXCLUSIVE. This will motivate them to get closer to the buying stage. But it is NOT. You must also:
- Tell them why you discount: If you want customers to accept your deals, give them a reason. As Robert Cialdini writes in his book Influence: The Psychology Of Persuasion:
People simply want a reason for what they do. (People simply like to have reasons for what they do)
Remember that you only need to give them a REASON to lower the price, it doesn't even need to be convincing. This tactic works even if you streamline your discount as simply as “Teng teng… you’re new”, “Congrats on being one of our first 10 guests” (although maybe you were the 50th or… 500th buyer).
2. Incentives for loyal customers
If you already have a loyal customer base – which is best if you have or build it now – why not build a program to reward them? For example, give customers a coupon for their next purchase to thank them for supporting your product.
As reported by LoyaltyOne , up to 76% of customers want personalized offers based on their purchase history. Thus, a program to accumulate points to redeem gifts will be extremely effective to retain existing customers.
3. Holiday discounts
On major shopping holidays, such as Black Friday , is when consumers are willing to spend the most. This is when trade marketing programs work because it drives shopper purchase decisions immediately.
4. Discount for pre-orders when launching new products
When launching a new product, most of us want as many buyers as possible. Is it true? Pre-order discounts for limited quantities will quickly speed up a shopper's decision-making process.
However, it is also important to be careful because a pre-launch discount can reduce the value of the product in the mind of the customer. Therefore, do not reduce too much on the first day of product launch. In addition, showing the discount as a percentage or a specific amount must also be considered. For example, 20% discount doesn't sound as attractive as discount 1,OOO,OOOd right? Although the reduction amount of both is the same.
5. Sold in packs/sold in combos
Bundle/combo selling is a great cross-selling technique that encourages shoppers to buy multiple products to get a better price than buying each item individually. This form is especially effective when businesses "catch the trend" at the right time. Remember the trend of making Dalgona coffee that caused a fever in 2020? Large coffee brands such as Trung Nguyen and Nescafe have immediately launched coffee combos sold with milk to serve the needs of users.
6. Discount when buying in bulk
Why not offer a better price when customers buy a lot of your products? If you are an office worker who is addicted to milk tea, you are probably familiar with programs such as "Buy 3 cups, get 1 cup free", "Buy 4 cups, get 2 cups", etc. What are the results? That is, you will "inviting" the whole office to order enough, and the milk tea shop will not only receive orders of greater value, but also be "promoted" for free and recruit more new customers.
Not only helps increase the size and value of the buyer's order, quantity discount is also an effective way to move stock when the seller needs to clear the inventory of a certain item.
7. Discounts for suspended carts
You may have heard about this offer already, but it's such a great retargeting technique for online channels that I just can't pass up. According to Baymard , up to 70% of shopping carts are abandoned because of additional costs in the order. Thus, a discount program for shoppers who are hanging orders will help you regain a large number of orders that seem to have been lost.
This form has a major drawback. That is, if you continuously offer discounts on suspended orders, the next time the shopper will create a shopping cart and then exit, then wait until a promotional offer to buy at a cheap price. Therefore, you should only apply this program once per customer, or limit the duration of the program.
8. Discount when referring acquaintances
You certainly understand the importance of word of mouth marketing. Nothing can be more reliable than a recommendation from an acquaintance. According to ReferralCandy , up to 83% of satisfied customers are willing to recommend to their acquaintances, but in fact… only 29% actually do this.
Therefore, a discount program when introducing new people will encourage your customers to be more "active" in promoting your products to everyone around.
But discounting doesn't always work
Many people often look to discounts as the solution to all business problems, without understanding what the customer's problem is. Therefore, it is not surprising that people massively do promotions but in the end do not see any noticeable effect. Then we put in the report the reasons abc xyz that explains why the program doesn't work.
Discount blindly will kill your business. The more you abuse the discount, the more you lower the value of your product in the customer's mind. Don't compromise with customers. Find out the problem, then give them real solutions.
If discounts don't help boost sales, remember that there are always alternatives, not always a price cut. Here are some suggested programs other than discounts:
Service improvement
If you do not want to reduce the price of the product, the service improvement that comes with the purchase is also an effective way to attract buyers, such as:
Free installation
Free shipping
Free gift wrapping
Enhanced after-sales (warranty, maintenance, ...)
The most typical example is thegioididong.com, an extremely successful mobile device retail chain of MWG. By upgrading customer service to a new level, Mobile World makes buyers feel like they are no different from "God" right from the moment they send the car. As a result, they have risen to become the mobile device retail chain with the largest market share in Vietnam thanks to improved service, even though the selling price is always higher than other places.
However, service improvement needs to be harmonized before, during and after sales to achieve the best effect. Otherwise, this will be a double-edged sword if the brand previously created too much trust for buyers but was weak in after-sales service, possibly even receiving a series of complaints from consumers, affecting to brand reputation and reduce the ability of customers to repurchase the product/refer to acquaintances of customers who have purchased the product.
Packaging development
Have you ever thought that your current product packaging is gradually becoming boring to consumers? Why not think about "changing clothes" for products to look more eye-catching on special occasions?
Example : In the midst of the 2017 Sea Games football fever, Coca-Cola "caught the trend" very well to cheer the home team by wearing player shirts for three product lines of Coca, Sprite, Fanta at Circle K.
Comes with a gift
The word “free” always has a strong appeal, so GWP (free gift with purchase) will be another option to effectively replace discount. The "cheapest" items to give are usually cloth bags, stainless steel straws, glass vases, porcelain cups, etc., but make customers extremely excited.
Even free gifts sometimes not only aim to catch the shopper's attention but also support other marketing purposes.
Example : Trung Nguyen gave a sample of Legend Classic coffee in a bag of G7 3in1 coffee in the US. It can be seen that besides building promotion for the G7 series, they also intentionally sampled for their Legend premium coffee line and helped buyers identify genuine Trung Nguyen products among the parallel sea of goods on the market.
Create an event
If you run a cafe-restaurant business, you definitely want to avoid discount programs. Especially when it's a premium brand. Think of a live music session, contest, social activity, etc. on a certain day of the week or month. Because entertainment is always an essential human need, it not only helps attract people, but also makes them want to linger longer, order a few more dishes or drinks to sip and enjoy.
Donate to charity/organization for the environment
Momo : For every purchase of movie tickets you buy at any CGV, Galaxy Cinema, BHD, Lotte Cinema, Cinestar and MegaGS cinemas and pay with MoMo, you have donated 1,000 VND for the program "Red lucky money". smile for 100 children”.
Ecosia : This search site uses advertising revenue to plant trees, on average every 45 searches will convert to a planted tree.
Instead of discount, these two brands convince customers to use this money to donate to charity or for the environment. Of course, the persuasiveness of this program is quite high and is often warmly received by consumers. Not only avoiding product discounts, but also building an effective CSR program to the community and increasing brand trust.
Conclude
Discounts have always been a story about sensible spending. If you use them properly – in the right place, with the right person (object), at the right time – then you will definitely get positive results. Again: Never offer a discount to everyone! And don't abuse the discount, because we always have other effective replacement programs that don't have to cut the price of the product.
Although brands are always encouraged to make programs for consumers, retailers are often not too excited about these programs of the brand. Why? Because it is a battle for market share between brands, while the point of sale does not receive much benefit from this competition. Suppose the sales point of sale for the category is 100 VND, in which brand A accounts for 40 VND, brand B accounts for 60 VND. When brand A does promotion, their revenue increases to 70 dong, and brand B doesn't do it, so it's only 30 dong. In general, the total revenue of the point of sale is still 100 VND.
Now do you understand why I said retailers aren't usually excited about brand consumer programs? Competition at the point of sale is another story that you need to pay special attention to, which is why I continue with Part 2: Discounts for distributors.

Ecommerce Marketing 2021: 20 Proven Strategies to Drive Sales
Ecommerce sales are growing rapidly ever since people have started adjusting to a 'new normal'. In fact, many retailers have made triple-digit online sales gains in the second quarter of 2020, as reported by CNBC. Stepping into the age of smartphones and tablets, online shopping is expected to be a key growth engine for every brand in the coming years.
(CNBC, 2020)
With this on-going transformation of the digital retail landscape, you might have to consider ditching some less profitable brick-and-mortar locations, and doubling-down on your ecommerce efforts to give the sales a big boost. Below are the top 20 ecommerce strategies and trends for 2020 and beyond.
H2: How Does Ecommerce Marketing Work?
Instead of relying on a physical local, ecommerce marketing utilizes various online channels, such as social media, digital content, search engines and email campaigns, to bring in traffic and drive awareness.
Briefly, ecommerce marketing is about using a mix of both paid and organic strategies to reach potential customers and send them targeted messages, which will ultimately result in a sale.
H2: 20 Must-Know Ecommerce Marketing Trends of 2021
1. Getting helps from AI-based chatbots
After receiving a customer’s message, chatbots will run the texts through an algorithm so as to figure out the best response accordingly. Although it sounds complicated, the whole process only takes about 2 seconds to complete.
Chatbots play an instrumental role in sales leads and conversions, for example, Sephora’s has increased the average user spend to over $50 USD, whereas Tommy Hilfiger’s has contributed to nearly 90% rate of returning customers.
Apart from the aforementioned advantages, there are more compelling reasons to get your company a chatbot, including but not limited to 24/7 customer services, lower cost, shorter response time, and most importantly, allowing the company to live to the customers’ rising expectations of “always-connected”. Truth to be told, there are currently more than 300,000 active chatbots on Facebook’s Messenger alone, it is believed that more and more businesses will start introducing chatbots to their customer support.
2. Being everywhere at all times
According to BigCommerce, online spending is distributed evenly between marketplaces, large retailers, web, and category-specific stores. In other words, businesses need to deliver a seamless and consistent shopping experience at any given touchpoint.
(BigCommerce, 2018)
To succeed in omnichannel retail, you first have to make sure every single touchpoint is deeply connected. Disney has demonstrated perfectly from start to finish: it begins with the customers' initial experience on its mobile-responsive website. After purchasing tickets, customers can scout plans, consume content and prepare for the entire trip on a mobile app called My Disney Experience. Once the customer is physically at the park, they can use the app to see wait times for all attractions and events on a real-time interactive map. Customers can even use the app as a photo storage device for any photos taken with the Disney characters and a food ordering tool at the restaurants. That's a truly omnichannel experience in that Disney manages to immerse their customers in the world they create literally at every moment.
3. B2B ecommerce is becoming a top growth sector
Late in 2017, Frost & Sullivan expected the global B2B ecommerce sales to surpass business-to-customer (B2C) valued at $3.2 USD trillion by 2020. B2B refers to business-to-business, and speaking of ecommerce, it is defined as the business model that focuses on selling goods and services to other companies through online channels.
Instead of targeting an individual customer, B2B companies offer raw materials, finished goods, services or consultations that other businesses need to operate, grow and profit. Examples include Dropbox, General Electric, Xerox and WeWork.
The collaboration between Forex and Spotware is one of the best practices. Spotware has developed a trading software called cTrader and sold it to forex brokers. For a trader to access the forex markets and trade online, they will need to use a trading platform or software. This is clearly a win-win situation since Spotware could therefore get a greater range of sales which leads to more income for the business. On the other hand, if Forex has not adopted cTrade, the brokers would have to make some software by themselves which would make it impossible to offer services at affordable costs. If you have overlooked the importance of B2B ecommerce, you are losing more chances to develop.
4. Manage multiple channels through one single platform
As businesses grow, there is a pressing need to eliminate human error when managing commerce data coming in from various channels. With the emergence of integrated platforms or super apps, product data can be extracted and mapped automatically across multiple channels without the need for manual input.
Sleekflow, for example, allows businesses to access all ecommerce channels such as Shopify, Shopline and Woocommerce on just one platform, improving the operational performance by delivering a single interface for both staff and supervisors across multiple teams. The system is capable of pulling data such as new user registrations, orders and delivery details from different websites, allowing businesses to keep track of all prospects and leads much easier.
5. Expand your business internationally
The cross-border purchasing has also surged dramatically in recent years , bringing new opportunities to brands and retailers. Despite slowdowns across some of the regions due to the coronavirus pandemic, sales have bounced back in many countries, for instance, there was a massive increase in the United States’ cross-border online sales in May.
(Global-e, 2020)
Thanks to the internet, taking your ecommerce business global is no longer a daunting task. The easiest strategy is to partner with trusted digital platforms, such as Amazon Global Selling and eBay Global Shipping. These websites are specifically designed for global reach, everything from the language to the price to the shipping rates will change automatically depending on the market, so the whole experience will be more appealing to overseas customers.
6. Subscription programs are hot
Subscription-based marketing is one of the predominant elements in modern businesses. Ever since the concept of customer relationship management has been introduced, many brands started prioritizing customer retention over customer acquisition. With reference to Zuora’s report, the subscription-based business model has exploded by over 350% since 2012, growing 5 times faster than S&P 500 company revenues and U.S. retail sales.
(Zuora, 2019)
Running a subscription service is good for both business and customers. First of all, as a customer, after signing up, he/she can just sit back and enjoy the premium service. The autopilot simplicity of subscriptions removes the thinking out of a purchase decision - subscribers never have to remember to reorder every month, which gives them the reassurance that they will have whatever they need before they actually need it. Meanwhile, the longer a customer is with you, the more they trust you and the more you become top-of-mind, thus, bringing in more longer-lasting and higher-paying referrals.
7. Adopting progressive web apps
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are a blend of the traditional browser experience and the mobile app experience. Simply put, PWAs are web-based applications that are intended to cater to users on a laptop or a mobile device. With the same application accommodated on both iOS and Android uniformly, PWAs save both time and cost of developing a native application.
Since PWAs are created with reusable codes, whereby developers can repeat the same codes and modules in quick succession. In addition, as the app primarily redirects to the original e-commerce site, the groundwork has already been laid. For e-commerce business owners who want to offer customers native app-like features in a short time, implementing a PWA is the most efficient alternative.
(Divante, 2018)
8. Don’t forget about D2C
D2C is commonly known as direct-to-consumer, meaning the manufacturers and producers start selling directly to end-consumers via an e-commerce site. Normally speaking, the traditional retailer business model has to go through wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and then finally to a consumer. But D2C suggests cutting out the middlemen, instead of solely focusing on bulk purchases, the providers should consider selling individual items to individual customers.
As a matter of fact, over 50% of shoppers prefer to shop directly with brand manufacturers over retailers, according to Astound Commerce Insight. The researchers also discovered that nearly 60% of respondents already used a brand manufacturer's website for researching products and usually made their purchase there as well.
9. “Try Before You Buy” is the new trend
While there are just a few benefits of physical stores, in-store sampling was supposed to be the most prominent one. Unfortunately, today’s online shops also offer customers with the “pay later” option, if they are not satisfied with the product, they are more than welcome to send it back for free.
As an ecommerce giant, Amazon launched Prime Wardrobe to Prime members in 2017. The customers are given a 7-day trial period before checking out, they can then pay for the items they want and return items they don’t with the provided return label. If you are interested in investing this feature, please make sure to have a clear return policy with foolproof instructions. The simpler the returns process is, the more likely customers are likely to shop from you again.
(Digitaltrends, 2017)
10. Modern buyers want more flexible payment options
In the early days of ecommerce, payment options were often limited to card payments, but now there’s a much wider range of payment methods for online shoppers. Statista has researched the preferred payment methods of online shoppers worldwide, between them, credit card payment is still the most popular, but e-payment and other methods are also growing rapidly.
(Statista, 2020)
When it comes to ecommerce payment methods, of course the more the better. After all, consumers are likely to abandon their carts if their preferred payment method isn't available. By equipping your site with a payment gateway that includes an array of payment methods, you give your business more opportunities to gain sales.
11. Dynamic pricing to drive revenue
Dynamic pricing is now taking ecommerce by storm. It is a pricing strategy in which prices change in response to real-time supply and demand, giving retailers the best chance of selling a product while making the most possible profit from each sale.
(Forbes, 2019)
Dynamic pricing strategy can appear in several forms, each of them can be used for achieving different goals. Uber, for example, has chosen to match fares to a number of variables such as time and distance of a customer’s route, traffic and the current rider-to-driver demand. Sometimes, this means temporary surge charges during particularly busy periods. With this system, Uber manages to make sure there are always enough drivers to handle all ride requests, customers can therefore get a ride quickly and easily.
12. Product visualization for interaction
Product visualization for ecommerce is a powerful way for e-tailers to gain profit from online sales. Wake up to the fact that ecommerce is growing faster than ever, it’s high time to represent products with a fresh look. Many companies are doing this by enabling their websites with visual product configuration software. Via this method, customers can see a picture or rendering of the product while they're completing their orders online.
To best explain its effectiveness, Retail Perceptions concluded that nearly 40% of consumers would be willing to spend more on a product if it offered an augmented reality experience. Thus, putting retailers who offer augmented reality features online at a competitive advantage that’ll likely increase sales, conversion rates and number of products sold for their online store. IKEA was quick to adopt this technology to assist its shoppers in making better buying decisions - the company collaborated with Apple and built the “IKEA Place” app that allows customers to visualize IKEA products in a superimposed graphics environment.
(Retail Perceptions, 2016)
13. Use videos to promote your products
While grabbing people’s attention is a huge task, video contents are able to help viewers to forge a positive, memorable association with your brand and what it stands for. Wyzowl has discovered that approximately 80% of customers preferred using videos to get information about a product over reading text on a page.
There are a variety of formats to create a marketing video. Given that online audiences enjoy short, snackable content, you might consider launching a charming animated video like Starbucks’. Starbucks debuted a cartoon web series called 1st & Main, every episode is about a cast of anthropomorphic animals that were going through struggles in art. Storylines were based on observations about the coffee vibe and culture, showcasing Starbucks as ‘the third place’ between home and work.
(Starbucks, 2016)
14. Voice search is the next big disruption
As presented by Adobe, almost 50% of customers used voice search technology to conduct general web searches, whereas over 90% of brands have been making significant investments in voice. The reason why customers love voice search is mostly because of its “hands-free” feature, it lets people carry out searches while they’re doing other things. As voice search technology continues to improve, some even more powerful algorithms can understand user intent, then reference previous searches and purchases to cater to the user’s special needs.
To prepare your site for voice search, you have to improve your voice search optimization. Due to the more conversational nature of voice searches, long-tail keywords are more important than ever. Long-tail keywords are more specific than standard keywords, which means that they usually have lower traffic volume, but also less competition. It can be impractical to manually track your keyword targets and results, you are therefore highly recommended to utilize free tools such as Google Search Console and Google Analytics for keywords data.
15. Every marketing decision is guided by numbers
Analytics is the core of growing an ecommerce business. It is helpful in optimizing the copy of your Call-to-Action button, creating superior meta tags to your competitors and so more. Since there is a lot of data to measure, parse, and analyse, finding the right ecommerce analytics tools to process large amounts of data and produce actionable insights can definitely offer your brand an immeasurable advantage over other competitors.
Google Analytics is perhaps one of the most well-known analytics tools used by website owners from all corners of the globe, it can be easily integrated into many ecommerce platforms. The only drawback is that in order to get really detailed reports, you really need to spend a lot of time fine tuning the filtered perspectives. Luckily, thanks to the popularity of the tool, there are countless tutorials available online. Google even set up an Analytics Academy to help you learn about this powerful measurement tool.
(Google, 2020)
16. Keep investing in social media
Ever since its emergence, social media has always proved itself to be invaluable for brands looking to boost sales and brand awareness. According to Absolute, close to 90% of online consumers believed social media helps them make a right shopping decision.
With such huge market potential, the social media companies themselves are also actively exploring new ways to better enable shopping via their platforms. In particular, Instagram rolled out shoppable posts feature which allows customers to tap on the product tags in organic posts and complete purchases. Snapchat also launched its visual search feature, by pointing the camera at products or barcodes, users can be redirected to the Amazon store to make purchases. Not to mention Facebook Messenger has incorporated chatbots to facilitate customer service.
17. Micro-markets have great opportunities
Too often, marketers only focus on big or middle-sized markets such as China, India, United States and the other, ignoring the fact that even sparsely populated areas might render an unique opportunity for cross-border e-commerce.
For example, New Zealand, Ireland, Latvia, Malta and Iceland can be considered among the micro-markets. They have small populations, a very decent infrastructure to which most of their population has access. Running business in these regions only has to face very limited competition as most of the largest brands paid no attention to them - there is no IKEA in Malta or Amazon in Iceland. Hence, there are plenty of rooms for you to fill in the blanks, especially when you are already competing with these stores in your domestic market.
18. Customers are making more green purchase decisions
Green purchase behavior usually refers to buying environmentally friendly products which can be recycled and bring benefits to the environment. Increasingly, consumers are becoming more knowledgeable about the environment and reflecting this knowledge in their decisions to buy green products. As reported by Nielsen Company, a whopping 81% of global respondents felt strongly that companies should help improve the environment, in light of this, consumers around the world are making adjustments in their shopping habits.
(Nielsen Company, 2017)
One of the easiest ways to reduce your business’s environmental impact is practicing green procurement, such as avoiding excessive packaging, using raw materials that are free of toxic substances, adding recyclable or reusable elements into your products.
19. Customers still love stories
It’s no surprise that the marketing world has embraced storytelling, in fact, it’s one of the most effective ways to connect on a deeper level with consumers and humanize a brand. The best-known textbook case is probably Harry's, a company that sells shaving equipment and men’s grooming products. Just from looking at their site, it’s easy to see that brand-oriented storytelling is a major component of the company’s identity. They talk about fair pricing and issues that affected the founders, along with discussion about “modern masculinity”, keeping customers engaged while coming to the conclusion that men can be anything they want.
(Harry’s, 2020)
20. Go for ecommerce personalization
Ecommerce personalization means delivering personal experiences on websites by dynamically showing content, product recommendations and specific offers based on previous actions, browsing behavior, purchase history, demographics, and other personal data. It comes in many different forms, from personalized product recommendations on homepage to cart-abandonment marketing emails, with the ultimate goals to push repeat purchases, drive sales and increase conversion.
Customers want to feel special and personalization helps to improve their shopping experience. As claimed by Accenture, nearly 40% of consumers have left a website because they were overwhelmed by too many options. That’s why you should make good use of the cookies collected, discovering the particular category that the users are interested in. Next time, when the visitors return, you can personalize a homepage for them accordingly, allowing them to shop without any distractions.

3 Keys to Building a Highly Profitable Online Business
September 9, 2020 7 min read
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.
I recently met with a leading global strategist, Ingrid Arna, to discuss the current economic climate and how she built an online business empire from home. Ingrid shared with me her top strategies with me, which I found insightful and valuable. The following are Ingrid’s words about building an online business:
Get your online business started now
Grinding through an MBA program and gathering thousands of dollars in venture capital aren’t the only ways to launch a multimillion-dollar online brand.
In fact, I did neither.
I started my online business and scaled rapidly with zero capital investment. Within 18 months, I’d made my first million online. And only three years into my business, I’d built a multimillion-dollar international company. I then went on to achieve 60% growth in the midst of a global pandemic.

While other businesses were closing down or just scraping through, I was having my highest revenue month to date. The fact is that the online space is still thriving for those who know how to leverage opportunity. We’re in the midst of a social boom where people are crying out for help to expand their businesses, improve their health and relationships, and transform their dreams into reality.
If you can solve people’s problems, you’re bound for growth—in any economic climate. Despite the harshness of the pandemic, anyone with a computer and internet access is fortunate to have the world at their fingertips… literally!
It’s not doom and gloom, it’s sell, serve, and boom in a new economy.
In this new economy, new markets are being created. But they’re not emerging on their own: we’re forging a new paradigm in business. New niche industries and service delivery models are unlocking fortunes for anyone willing to be agile, learn, pivot, knuckle down, and lead.
A revolution in online marketing and monetization has begun.
New educators will create massive global change
The rise of this new economy, called Conscious Capitalism, is about creating enterprise that contributes to society by fusing online education with deep service to create great impact while escalating growth.

The online education, coaching, and consulting industry is worth $325 billion, and that’s not all…
● There are 2.9 billion active users on Facebook alone. ● YouTube viewership is up 160%. ● Internet usage overall is up 50%. ● Ad costs are down by 30% to 40%
This all combines to create the perfect conditions for a windfall in your business.
Even though the market is VAST for coaching, consulting, and online learning, it’s true that less than 1% of online coaches and consultants make seven figures a year.
That’s because 99% of people are building businesses without a clear vision, strategy, and roadmap to sustainable success. They don’t understand what it means to adapt, so inevitably their businesses perish. I built my business with my back against the wall, so adaptation was the only option. Economic pressure can create the perfect storm for success.
If you can solve people’s problems with speed and excellence, you’ll always get paid. The fastest and easiest way to do this is by following these three principles:
Principle 1: Productization
It’s simple: at the heart of all highly successful online brands is a great product that serves its market. The online education niche allows you to take your life’s calling and years of experience and turn them into a successful online course, program, or membership that deeply serves your ideal client.
The secret to always being wildly successful online is to discover what people want and give it to them. The cashflow sweet spot is lining up what people want with something you’re deeply passionate about. If you’re not obsessed with your topic, your course will be about as exciting as a dinner date with a cardboard cut out.
Don’t worry about having to teach at the university level either. People want simplicity, accessibility, and practical solutions. Think about all your skills, talents, and life experiences that you’ve been through. From business, branding, financial planning, leadership coaching, personal development, wellness, weight loss, marriage counseling, spiritual development, and even overcoming the death of a loved one… the list of possible course topics is endless. Often we teach what we most need to learn in life. Take your life’s pain, turn it into a product that serves your customer, and you’ll be set for rapid success.
Principle 2: Make your mark
One of the key mistakes I see over and over again is entrepreneurs completely confusing their customers about how they can help them. Their message isn’t clear or powerful enough to generate influence, reach, and conversion, which makes it impossible to connect with their buyers.

Within seconds of encountering your brand, a potential customer decides if you’re worth their time or not. The message about the service you provide needs to immediately captivate and connect with them. Connection sits at the heart of all conversion and activates one of the most important principles in the sales process… trust. When a buyer finds a brand they trust, they will inevitably buy.
The key is being able to quickly explain their problem better than they can and then showing them you’re the one with the solution. When your customers feel seen and understood, they know that you care.
This level of deep emotional rapport is how we’ve created a massive audience of loyal customers and expanded in a ‘downturn’. The offline market might be in free fall, but our industry is booming.
Principle 3: Automation for growth
If you want a business that makes a global impact, you need a global following. Without an automated lead acquisition model, you’ll never gain the audience you need. With the right strategy, you can attract thousands of new leads and customers every single month.
But no one wants to feel lost in a sea of leads—each person needs to be touched in a powerful, engaging, and meaningful way. Here’s the thing: there’s no way I would have been able to serve the thousands of students in my online courses and programs by nurturing and selling to them one-by-one.
You want a BIG business without being a slave to sales? Then what you really want is beautiful, personal, and automated touchpoints.
Once you’ve made a sale, delivery is no different. People want intimate attention and an experience to remember. This does not require your time.
The key to a multimillion-dollar business is not working harder but implementing systems, strategies, and a scalable course that delivers an outstanding service to customers.
It’s time to lead and leverage your skills with a business that makes your soul sing and your cash register ring as you create a legacy brand and a life of influence, wellbeing, and true freedom.

3 Keys to Building a Highly Profitable Online Business

Planning the Core of your Trip
Hopefully, you’ve read our piece on a Disney World Planning Timeline. If not, we suggest you start with that article. There we outlined most things that you’ll need to consider for a Walt Disney World vacation. The next several articles will break that timeline up into portions and provide more detail. Let’s start with the core of your trip: When, Length of Stay, and Resort choice. There is some debate about the best order to consider planning a trip, even amongst the Heyday office. To give you perspective, here is the logic that I’ve followed when writing this piece. We suggest that you start with when you’d like to go. We’ll consider whether, crowds, etc. From there, how long do you want to stay? When you’re going may play some part in that, for many it has to do with available vacation. Finally, your resort choice. Again, when and length of time may impact this but let’s stick with an ideal choice to start. These all together give you an initial budget. If all your choices fall within your currently available budget, perfect! If not, then we can start looking at compromises.
1. WHEN TO VISIT WALT DISNEY WORLD
Let’s break this down into the two major parts; year and season. There are a few things to consider when it comes to what year you want to go to Disney. Some people might choose to wait until something big opens, like Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Others might be waiting for the new TRON coaster at the Magic Kingdom or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster at Epcot before going. There is an unprecedented number of projects currently taking place as WDW prepares for its 50th Anniversary. There is a lot to consider! Or, do you just ignore all of that and go when works best for you? My personal recommendation, go when it works best for you. There will always be construction in Disney World with something new on the horizon. I say, go when you can and make the most of it. Some people choose to wait and plan around construction or refurbishments. The risk of this approach is that things happen. Construction and maintenance run into delays all the time. This is why we don’t advocate planning around those things. Assuming you’ve picked a year, now we need to discuss what season you want to go. Again, multiple things to consider. There are crowds to take into consideration. While, yes, Christmas is an amazing time in the parks. You can also expect to see them at capacity almost every day from Christmas through the New Year. In fact, almost every New Year’s Eve Day Magic Kingdom gates are closed due to attendance by mid-morning. Beyond crowds, there are all of the festivals that take place at Epcot not to mention the seasonal parties at the Magic Kingdom. Even if you’re not planning on attending one of the parties, you’ll be impacted by the adjusted schedule for the Magic Kingdom for them from mid-August through the New Year. This is all without even mentioning the various discount offers that Disney typically makes throughout the year. They have already announced Free Dining Plan offers for 2020 or a room-only discount if that would work better for you. Also, keep in mind, there is no guarantee that these will be offered each year and when they are the quantities are limited. One thing to keep in mind is that crowds are usually highest when the fewest discounts are available and prices are most expensive. That’s an unfortunate double-whammy for those visiting at busy times, but Disney’s pricing is demand-based. We can discuss traditional crowds with you and help you take school schedules, crowds, weather, park hours, and special events all into account. Before truly solidifying your travel dates, we’ll take a look at the planned refurbishments just to help ensure you don’t miss must-do attractions from your list. Walt Disney World is great any day of the year, but we absolutely recommend going any time from October to April. To us, the weather and crowds of the summer months are significant negatives. Can you go during that time and have an amazing trip? Absolutely! If you can avoid it though, we suggest that you do. If you’re thinking of a November or December vacation, there is so much happening during the holidays that it’s simply too much to list here. Every park, every resort, and Disney Springs all get into the spirit of the season. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a special ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom that really should be experienced at least once. From mid-August until the end of October, there is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Both are experiences that you don’t want to miss. The downside to these months, particularly August and September, is the weather. The upside is lower crowds. Which is why we suggest waiting until October. Although the crowds start to pick up you’re typically past hurricane season and the high temperatures are coming down. This really does just begin to scratch the surface of everything there is to experience at Walt Disney World. There are even more festivals in Epcot, runDisney events for those that enjoy Marathons, and just so much more.
2. HOW LONG TO VISIT WALT DISNEY WORLD
How long you should stay at Walt Disney World depends largely upon the type of trip you want it to be. If you’re not much of a Disney fan but are taking your kids on a “once in a lifetime” rite of passage trip, we recommend a Walt Disney World vacation of at least 6 or 7 days. This is not to say that you can’t enjoy your time there with fewer days. A “quick” trip of 3 days or so can really be enjoyable too. There are just so many options while in Disney World that the length of time will dictate how much you may experience. In addition to visiting Disney’s theme parks, you’ll also probably want to build a day into your itinerary for relaxation. This mostly applies to longer trips. During a short trip, you’ll most likely want to maximize that time. Of course, this all depends on how you define maximize your time. Spending 6 consecutive days in a theme park can be extremely tiring! As your travel advisor, one of my most important jobs is to help match your expectations of what you’ll experience. The exact length will still vary a bit depending upon how much vacation time you have and if you plan on visiting any non-Disney theme parks or destinations. In the coming weeks, we’ll have a complete article focused just on this topic of How long to go. DISNEY PARK TICKETS At Disney, the longer you go the less you pay per day. It seems odd at first, but it is true. Single-day Walt Disney World tickets are expensive, but multi-day tickets are much cheaper per day. The cost of additional days on a ticket substantially decreases with each day you add after 3 days. In other words, longer trips are not proportionately more expensive than shorter ones.
Whatever you do, don’t wait to buy your tickets at the front gates of the parks, because then you can’t book your FP+ attractions in advance. To make your FP+ selections at the 60 or 30-day window, you must have a valid park ticket linked to your My Disney Experience account. This will make more sense as we work through the rest of the Timeline. There is one more consideration when it comes to Park Tickets – Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus? The Hopper option allows you to visit more than one Park on each valid day. For example, by adding the Hopper option you may visit the Magic Kingdom during the morning and then go to Epcot for dinner and fireworks. Hopper Plus gives you even more options each day. In addition to the ability to enjoy multiple parks, the Plus option also gives you access to Disney’s waterparks, ESPN Wide World of Sports, Oak Golf Course, and a round of miniature golf at either Winter Summerland or Fantasia Gardens. These addons are not without a cost. The value of which we can discuss in regard to your desires for the trip. Hopper tickets are $60 per ticket for 1-day, $70 per ticket for 2 or 3-day tickets, and $80 per ticket for 4 to 10-day tickets. The Hopper Plus option costs $80 per ticket, $90 per ticket, and $100 per ticket for the same tiers. We almost always recommend the Hopper option in conjunction with trips for longer than 4 days. Less than that and you’re often better served to focus on a single park each day. The longer the stay, the more flexibility of options you’re likely to want.
3. WHERE TO STAY AT WALT DISNEY WORLD
When pricing out Walt Disney World hotels, you’re bound to have some sticker shock. Prices have gone up considerably in the last few years, and discounts are not nearly as abundant as they once were. Debating whether to stay off-site to save money or on-site at Walt Disney World for convenience and to be immersed in the magic? There are pros and cons to both options in the off-site vs. on-site Walt Disney World Hotels debate. We’ll be happy to talk through all of them with you. We suggest staying on-site when you can. The access and ease it provides really can’t be compared. The on-site resorts at Walt Disney World have the three main tiers; Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. Which are exactly what their names sound like they are. You’ll also see a Deluxe Villa tier, these are some of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Timeshare rooms are that are available for rent. Value Resort HotelModerate Resort Hotel Deluxe Resort Hotel Deluxe Villa (Disney Vacation Club) Resorts Beyond the location and transportation, some of the main perks of staying on-site are the FastPass+ booking window and MagicBands. FastPass+ is the all-digital ride reservation system that replaced paper FastPasses several years ago. FastPass+ (FP+) FastPass+ is a complimentary benefit extended to anyone with valid admission. Each Walt Disney World ticket holder receives three advanced FastPass+ selections for a single park (per day). This service allows you to reserve access to attractions of your choosing at a specific time, with a minimal wait. There are a limited number of FastPass+ allocations for each ride each day. We recommend you make your FastPass+ selections early in order to have a greater variety of options to choose from. Since all attractions and Character Greetings provide standby entrances, you’re also free to simply plan as you go. Keep in mind, the number of slots is limited. Depending on availability, additional FastPass+ selections may be available to guests once their three initial selections have been used each day. Advanced FastPass+ reservations may be made up to 60 days in advance for on-site guests, and 30 days for off-site guests. If you want any of the High Popularity FastPass+, and some other popular attractions, having the full 60-day window might be the only way to get them. Many of these FastPass+ experiences “sell out” within hours or days of their 60-day window opening. This becomes significant during your trip because a wait time of 2+ hours is not unheard of for these attractions. Having a FP+ for select attractions could be the difference between an additional 4-6 hours in line per day and getting to experience other attractions as well or not. High Popularity FastPass+
Likewise, you should make your FastPass+ selections as soon as your 60 or 30-day window opens. Here are some of the, typically, most difficult FastPass+ reservations to make: Peter Pan’s Flight (Magic Kingdom)Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom)Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom)Frozen Ever After (Epcot)Soarin’ (Epcot) Test Track (Epcot)Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom)Navi River Journey (Animal Kingdom) Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom)Toy Story Midway Mania (Hollywood Studios) Slinky Dog Dash (Hollywood Studios)

Marketing Trends for 2020: Here’s What Will Happen That Nobody is Talking About
The new year is right around the corner. And I know you are already prepared because you read this blog and tons of other marketing blogs, right?
But here is the thing: I also read most of the popular marketing blogs, follow all of the marketing YouTube channels, and listen to the same podcasts you do.
And I’ve noticed that very few people are talking about what’s really going to happen in 2020.
Sure, they will tell you things like voice search is going to account for over 50% of the search queries next year but all of that stuff has already been talked about.
And there are actually more interesting trends that will affect your marketing that no one is really talking about.
So, what are these trends? What’s going to happen in 2020?
Alright, here goes…
Trend #1: Companies who rely on Google Analytics will get beat by their competition
We all love Google Analytics.
Heck, I love it so much I log in at least 3 or 4 times a day. And here is the kicker: I get so much traffic that my Google Analytics only updates once a day.
I really need to break that habit but that’s for another day.
You are probably wondering, what’s wrong with Google Analytics?
There actually isn’t much wrong with it. It’s a great tool, especially considering that it’s free.
But here is the thing… marketing has been changing. New channels are being constantly introduced, such as voice search.
And transactions no longer are as simple as someone coming and buying from you and that’s it.
These days there are things like upsells, down sells, repeat purchases, and even checkout bumps. On top of that, there are so many different ways you can generate revenue for your online business, such as partnerships, affiliate marketing, and even webinars.
This has caused companies to start using analytics solutions that tie into their database better, such as Amplitude. Or better yet, you are seeing a big push into business intelligence.
A central place where you can tie in all of your data and make better-informed decisions so you can optimize for your lifetime value instead of your short-term income.
In 2020, you will see more companies adopting business intelligence solutions… from paid ones to free ones like Google Data Studio.
If you haven’t checked out Data Studio, you’ll want to start now because it is easy to pass in all of your business and marketing data into one place. For example, you can pass in more granular data from your Facebook ad campaigns into Data Studio while that would be a bit difficult to do with Google Analytics.
Trend #2: Companies will optimize for voice search, but not for revenue
According to ComScore, over 50% of the searches in 2020 will be from voice search. But that’s not really a new trend… everyone has been talking about that for years.
So, what’s the big deal?
Optimizing for voice search is a great way to get your brand out more, but how is that going to convert into sales?
I haven’t seen too many solutions so far when it comes to capitalizing on your voice search traffic, but so far there is Jetson.ai.
If you aren’t familiar with Jetson.ai, it makes it so people can buy from your site using voice search. It doesn’t matter if it is Alexa or Google Home, they work with most of the popular devices.
vimeo
What’s cool about Jetson.ai is that it can learn from each customer and customize the interactions.
For example, if I keep ordering the same toothpaste from a specific store using voice search, Jetson.ai keeps track of that so you can easily keep ordering the same product over and over again with little to no friction.
Heck, it’s easier than logging into your computer or pulling out your phone to make a purchase.
Trend #3: Your lists won’t convert as well, so you’ll have to look for alternative communication channels
Email, it’s something we all use in the corporate world.
But here is something interesting when it comes to marketing emails… I’m in a group with a bit over 109 email marketers across different industries in different parts of the world.
And can you guess what we are all noticing?
Our open rates are staying roughly the same and that’s largely because we all know how to clean and optimizing for deliverability.
But our click rates are going down.
So far as a group we have seen our click rates drop by 9.4% in 2019.
That’s crazy considering as a group we have over 146 million email addresses.
Now does this mean email is dead?
Of course not!!!
Email is here to stay and will be here for a very long time.
But what companies will have to do in 2020 is to leverage more communication channels.
Chatbots will take off drastically. Not necessarily the Intercom’s or Drift’s of the world but more so the solutions like ManyChat and MobileMonkey.
ManyChat and MobileMonkey leverage Facebook Messenger and as they connect it with Instagram and WhatsApp it will get even more popular.
In addition to chatbots, you’ll see more people leveraging tools that allow push notifications like Subscribers.
It’s so powerful, here is the impact I’ve been able to generate from push notifications so far using Subscribers.
You can wait till next year to lever chatbots and push notifications, but I’d recommend you start sooner than later. 😉
Trend #4: Moats will almost be non-existent, other than brands
You’ve probably heard the word “moat” before. If you haven’t, just think about water around a castle.
Back in the day, they had water all around the castle and they used a drawbridge to get in and out of the castle, so it would protect them from invaders.
With your business, you may have a moat. It could be a feature, your cost structure, a technological advantage, or even a marketing advantage.
Over the years, moats in the online world have slowly been disappearing.
It’s easy for anyone to copy these days. So, what’s separating you from your competition?
Something could work right now, but it won’t last forever…
But do you know what will still be a strong moat in 2020 and even a stronger one in the future?
It’s branding.
People buy Jordan shoes because they love Michael Jordan. His brand is stronger than ever even though he hasn’t played in the NBA for roughly 16 years.
His shoes are so popular, it’s helped him boost his net worth to over a billion dollars. Plus owning a basketball team doesn’t hurt either. 😉
But what’s interesting is he’s made more money after retirement than he did as a basketball player.
And it’s not just Jordan who built a strong brand… so have the Kardashians.
Kylie launched a billion-dollar company according to Forbes and it was all because of her personal brand. Her cosmetic company isn’t doing anything revolutionary. She just has a strong brand… and good for her for monetizing her brand.
The same goes for companies like Nike, Ferrari, Tesla, American Express… and the list goes on and on.
It’s why companies are spending over 10 billion dollars a year on influencer marketing.
Just look at my agency NP Digital. It’s literally one of the fastest-growing ad agencies out there. And when I look at all of my competitors’ numbers, we are growing at a much faster pace because of my brand.
Yes, we have a great team, but again, that really isn’t a moat as a lot of agencies have great teams. It’s my brand that gave us a really fast kick start and continues to hopefully push us up.
You’ll want to build a brand in 2020. Whether it is personal or corporate, it’s the best moat you can build in marketing. Plus, it will help you with Google’s EAT.
Trend #5: Marketing will become a more even playing field, you’ll have no choice but to use automation
When I first started off as an entrepreneur, I turned to SEO because I couldn’t afford the big ad budgets as my competitors.
Heck, I couldn’t even afford to run any paid ads.
Over the years, the playing field has become more level.
There are credit card companies like Brex that make it easier for startups to get approved for larger limits and you may not have to pay them back right away.
There are financing companies that will give you cash to spend on marketing, so non-venture funded companies can more easily compete.
There are even companies like Lighter Capital that will give you loans without all of the headaches based on your existing revenue.
And to top it off, software solutions are now starting to integrate AI to give better recommendations. From Clickflow and RankScience to Distilled ODN… everyone is trying to use AI to make SEO and other forms of marketing.
Heck, BrightEdge can even automate your SEO (or at least a large portion of it). According to them, their automated SEO solution increases page views per visit by 60% as well as provides 21% more keywords on page one.
Keep in mind their clients are really big (their software starts in the thousands of dollars per month) so they would probably see better results than most companies, but still, you will start seeing many more software companies leverage AI.
Even with Ubersuggest, I’m working on creating AI that does the SEO for you so you no longer have to spend endless hours while, at the same time, saving you thousands of dollars.
In other words, the marketing playing field is getting more even. And if you want to do well, you are going to have to leverage AI and automation.
If everyone else is using it and you aren’t, you are going to get crushed because it will make changes faster and more accurately than a human. Again, it’s the only option you’ll have if you want to continually compete.
But don’t worry, there will be affordable/free solutions that exist, it’s just a matter of time. 😉
If everyone is leveraging the same AI marketing technology, how can you beat your competitors?
Well, it will come down to everything else… price, customer service, upselling, operations, sales… All of the small stuff is what’s going to help you win.
Trend #6: There will be no more silver bullets, we will all have to optimize for marginal gains
A lot of businesses were built off of one marketing channel.
Dropbox grew through referral marketing. Invite more friends, get more free space.
Facebook was built off your email address book. Facebook used to tap into it and invite all of your contacts to use Facebook on your behalf.
Companies like Quora and Yelp were built off of SEO. All of those rankings really help drive their businesses.
But you no longer can build a business through just one marketing channel. Good channels now get saturated extremely fast.
Even if they work and cause explosive growth, it will only last for a short while before your competitors jump on board and make it harder.
Marketing is now heading in the direction of being about “marginal gains.”
There’s a British cycling coach named Dave Brailsford. His belief was that if you improved every area related to cycling by just 1 percent, then those small gains would add up to remarkable improvement.
And he’s right, that’s how you win a race.
The same will be with your marketing. There will be a big shift from people focusing on one channel and trying to find the “Holy Grail of marketing” to working on slightly improving each area of your marketing.
From split testing your title tags to get a few ranking improvements to adding checkout bumps to your order page so you can spend a little bit more on your paid ads to using Google Data Studio so you can better optimize for your lifetime value…
It’s all about the little things. That’s what is going to add up to winning.
That’s what you’ll have to shift your mindset to in order to win in 2020 and beyond.
Trend #7: Personalization is the new marketing
The problem with marketing as it exists today is that 95% of your visitors will never convert into a customer. And that’s if you are lucky.
Chances are you are more likely looking at 97% plus of your visitors never converting.
The big reason isn’t that your marketing sucks or that all of those visitors are junk and unqualified.
It’s that your message doesn’t fit every single one of your visitors.
But through personalization, you can convert more of your visitors into customers.
A basic example of this is Amazon. When you go to Amazon, they know your patterns and what you typically buy so they show you what they think you want to see in order to boost their conversions.
And it works! When I log into Amazon I see tons of household supplies because that is what I buy the most often. I never buy dog food (which is smart because I don’t have a dog) so I’ll never see ads for dog food.
Businesses are also trying to personalize each and every single experience both online and offline.
Companies like Amperity are trying to create a customer relationship engine so you can better serve each of your customers, whether it is online or offline.
Marketing is going to become a game of personalization. With ad costs and even general marketing costs rising, you have no choice but to figure out how to convert the 97% of your traffic that just never comes back.
You’ll see a big push for this in 2020.
Conclusion
I know a lot of the stuff I mentioned above isn’t talked about a lot and they aren’t popular marketing topics that everyone wants to hear… but it is the future.
These are trends that will come true, some already are, and you have to adapt for them.
Here’s the beautiful part, though. You just read this, and now have a chance to act on the information before your competition. So, make sure you go and do so.
I want to see you not only succeed but I want you to beat your competition. And I believe you can, whether you are a big company, or just starting off with very little to no money.
So, what do you think of the trends above? Do you see any marketing trends that will come true in 2020 that few people talk about?

How Digital Marketing Will Change in 2019
Digital marketing is going to change drastically in 2019. And sadly, you aren’t going to like a lot of the changes.
And no, I don’t mean change from a competition standpoint. You already know that each year marketing gets more expensive and more competitive. That’s just a given.
Just look at the graph above: that’s Google’s annual revenue. As you can see, during the last recession, Google made more and more money. They didn’t even have a down year.
One of the big reasons we are seeing digital marketing change so much is because of the adoption of new technologies. But also because the web is getting saturated… there are 1,805,260,010 websites on the web.
That means there is 1 website for every 4 people in this world. That’s crazy!
So, let’s dive into it… here’s how digital marketing is going to change this year.
Drastic Change #1: SEO won’t look the same
I’m starting with this one because I know you are going to hate this. SEO is moving to voice search.
In 2018, 2 out of every 5 adults used voice search once per day. But in 2020, 50% of all searches will be done through voice search according to ComScore.
And it won’t just be people speaking into their microphone on their cell phone or laptop, 30% of web browsing won’t even take place on a device with a screen. That means more people will be searching through devices like Google Home or Alexa.
I know you don’t like this because every time I blog about voice search, no one really reads the article. It’s one of those topics that SEOs just wish didn’t exist.
Why?
Well, being on page 1 doesn’t matter when it comes to voice search. Either Google pulls from your website or they don’t.
And secondly, conversions from voice search will be lower because people won’t be going to your website. Google will just be giving them the answer. At least, until we can figure out how to solve this as marketers.
But instead of looking at voice search as a bad thing, just think of it this way, no one cares to read articles about it, which means most SEOs won’t be prepared for it.
This is your chance to get ahead of your competition and gobble up that traffic before the market shifts into using voice.
Here are some articles that will teach you how to maximize your voice search traffic:
The Definitive Guide to Voice Search
How to Optimize for Voice Search (4 Simple Strategies)
How to Get Extra Traffic From Voice Search
Drastic Change #2: Expect algorithm updates to be more complex
According to the Moz algorithm changelog, there were 12 updates in 2018.
Although it sounds like a lot, it isn’t. In 2017 there were 13 updates and in 2016 there were 11. In other words, Google has been averaging 12 updates per year if you combined the confirmed updates with the “unconfirmed” ones.
But let’s look at the older updates…
On July 17, 2015, Google released Panda 4.2. I know you may have hated the Panda update, but it wasn’t too bad. All Google did doing was get rid of spammy sites with low-quality content.
They didn’t want to rank sites that had thousands of 300-word blog posts with duplicate content.
Could you blame them for that?
And what about the change Google made on September 27, 2016, the Penguin 4.0 update?
If you built spammy links, they no longer would just penalize you, in most cases, they would devalue those links instead.
That means if you did something shady like buy a ton of backlinks and get caught, those links would just be de-valued instead of causing your whole site to get banned.
Now if you look at the latest algorithm updates, they are getting more complex and harder to beat. And it’s because technology is evolving so fast.
Google no longer has to just look at metrics like content and backlink count to figure out if a site ranks well. They can look at user metrics, such as:
Are users spending more time on your site than the other ranked sites on Google?
Are people bouncing off your site and heading back to the Google listing page?
Are your brand queries increasing over time? Or do people not see you as a brand?
Do people find your site more appealing… in other words, is your click-through-rate higher?
If you want to beat Google, you have to shift your mindset. It’s not about understanding Google, it’s about understanding users.
Google has one goal: to rank sites that users love the most at the top. That causes people to come back, keep using Google, and increase their overall revenue.
If you can put yourself in your users’ shoes, you’ll be better suited to do that.
The first step in doing this is to realize that when someone performs a search for any keyword, they aren’t just “performing a search,” they are looking for a solution to their problem.
By understanding the intent of their search, you’ll be more likely and able to solve their problems. You can use tools like Ubersuggest to help you with it as it will show you long tail phrases (problems people are trying to solve for).
Once you do that, you’ll be able to create the best experience, the best product, or even service that people deserve.
This is how you make your site continually rank well in the long run even as they make their algorithm more complex.
Drastic Change #3: You can’t build a company off of 1 channel
You familiar with Dropbox?
Of course, you are, it’s a multi-billion-dollar company… and you probably have it installed on your computer.
When they first came out, they tried to acquire users through Google AdWords. Can you guess how much it cost them to acquire a customer?
It ranged between $200 and $300.
Do you know how much Dropbox costs?
$60 a year.
The math doesn’t work out. Why would you spend $200 to acquire a user who only pays $60?
Even when someone pays you $60, it’s not all profit. Because of that, Dropbox had to grow using growth hacking.
Dropbox gives you more free space the more users you invite. That’s a great example of growth hacking. And it’s how they grew into a multi-billion-dollar company.
Nowadays, if you created a similar invite flow within your company, it won’t work that well. You can no longer build a company using one channel like how Dropbox grew.
And do you remember how Facebook grew?
When you signed up, they would tap into your email address book and send out an email to every single one of your contacts inviting them to use Facebook, even if you didn’t want them to.
That one channel helped Facebook grow into the multi-hundred-billion-dollar company that we know today.
Nowadays, if you get an email saying your friend is inviting you to join a new site or social network, you’ll probably just ignore it.
Again, you no longer can build a big business leveraging only one marketing channel.
So, what does that mean for you?
First of all, popular marketing channels that are profitable get saturated fast and you are going to have a lot of competitors.
Due to that, you have to leverage all channels. From content marketing and paid ads to social media marketing and SEO to email marketing… you have to leverage all channels out there.
It’s your only option to doing well in the long run.
One channel won’t make your business anymore. But if you combine them all, you can still grow your business.
And hey, if something happens to one channel like an algorithm change, at least your business won’t go down too much because you are diversified.
No matter how much you love one form of marketing, never rely on it. Adopt an omnichannel approach.
Drastic Change #4: Blogging won’t work too well
I got into this a little bit at the top… the web is saturated. There are just way too many sites.
Sure, most of those 1.8 billion sites aren’t being updated and a lot are dormant.
Now out of those 1.8 billion sites, roughly 1 billion of them are blogs. That’s roughly 1 blog for every 7 people out there.
When I started my first blog in 2005, there weren’t as many people online creating sites or producing content. There also weren’t as many people using Google.
Nevertheless, Google loved content. Everyone was saying how content is king because if you produce high-quality articles Google would rank them due to one simple fact… they lacked content in their index.
But as time went by, Google no longer had a shortage of content. I would even go as far to say that there is too much content for them to choose from.
For that reason, they can be pickier if they want to rank your website or not. It’s not just about backlinks or optimizing your on-page code, it’s about providing what’s best for the end user.
That means Google is going to rank fresh content that isn’t regurgitated.
If you want to take the route of just writing dozens of articles each way and trying to rank for everything under the sun, you can. It’s still possible, but it will take more time and it will be harder as there is more competition.
More so, the way content marketing is changing in 2019, and we saw a little of this in 2018, is that you need to update your content.
No longer can your strategy be to write a lot of content. You are going to have to plan on updating your content on a regular basis.
For example, I have one person who works for me full time going through my old blog posts to update them. Also, I now only have time to write once piece of content each week. There is no way I can go through my blog and update over a thousand blog posts.
You’re going to have to do the same if you want to maintain your search traffic. If you are established and have an old blog, spend half your time updating your old content. If you are a new blog, you don’t really need to spend more than 5% of your time updating your old content.
Drastic Change #5: You’ll need to focus on new search engines and new content types
We can all agree that text-based content is saturated.
If you don’t agree with me, just scroll back up to Drastic Change #4 😉
We all know it takes forever to rank on Google. If you aren’t willing to give it a year, you shouldn’t spend much time doing traditional SEO.
What if I told you there was another form of SEO in which you can see results very, very fast?
So fast, that within 30 days (or even a few days!) you can rank at the top. And, better yet, those rankings mean you will get traffic.
Just look at my search traffic from this different kind of search engine:
Can you guess that what search engine this is?
YouTube!
I generate 198,380 views every month from YouTube search. And those people watch my content for an average of 559,237 minutes a month.
I’m generating over 388 days of watch time each month just from YouTube search. That’s crazy!
YouTube isn’t nearly as competitive as Google. Nor is optimizing for the iTunes store if you have a podcast.
Don’t just focus your efforts on Google.
Focus your efforts on less-saturated forms of content like video and audio while optimizing for less common search engines like YouTube and iTunes.
Plus, these new channels have a very lucrative audience as they are engaged. Did you know that 45% of podcast listeners have a household income of $75,000 or more?
Here are some articles that’ll help you out:

iTunes SEO: What Works Now
If you don’t have a big marketing budget no worries. These channels aren’t as expensive or competitive yet. You also don’t need a studio to film or record. You can just bust out your iPhone and start recording yourself.
Believe it or not, a lot of people prefer that over studio quality content as it is more authentic.
Drastic Change #6: Budgets will start shifting into conversion rate optimization
At the beginning of this post, I broke down Google’s yearly revenue.
As you can see it has continually increased even during recessionary periods.
Sure, some of it has to do with more people coming online. But also, the cost per click is rising.
Same with Facebook Ads. I literally know hundreds of affiliates who used to make over a million dollars a year in income because Facebook Ads were so affordable.
But in June/July 2017, Facebook crossed a point where they had more advertisers than inventory… at least in the United States.
Over time, that trend continued into other countries, which mean Facebook Ad costs drastically increased.
Just look at the graph below. As you can see, companies spend the majority of their budget on Google AdWords and Facebook Ads.
Now let’s look at what channel produces the highest ROI. Can you guess what it is?
SEO, right?
Although the chart shows SEO produces the biggest ROI, in reality, it is the second runner up.
What’s hard to see because it is classified as “other” in the chart and it is grouped with other marketing channels, is conversion rate optimization. And that channel produced the biggest ROI by far. It beat SEO by leaps and bounds.
It was just hard to see that because not enough companies spend money on conversion rate optimization. And when they do, it is a very small portion of their budget.
In 2019, start running A/B tests. Whether you use Crazy Egg or any other solution out there, don’t forget to include it in your marketing arsenal.
Drastic Change #7: Marketers will learn what funnels are
You may have heard of marketing funnels or sales funnels, but I bet you aren’t using them.
And no, a funnel isn’t something as simple an email sequence.
Because ads are getting more expensive, you’ll find yourself doing things like running more A/B tests (as I mentioned above), but it will only help so much.
As your competition also starts running A/B tests, you’ll find that ad prices will go up again.
So, what should you do?
You are going to have to upsell and downsell your visitors. I learned this tactic from Ryan Deiss years ago and he was spot on.
The best way to generate revenue isn’t to get more customers, it’s to get more money out of your existing customers.
Sure, your customer base is only going to spend so much. But if you offer upsells and downsells you can see increases in revenue from 10% to 30%. And some cases you’ll even double your revenue.
The key points with upselling and downselling are as follows:
Offer at least 2 or 3 upsells (or downsells).
If people don’t take the offer, considering offering the same offer again with monthly installments.
The best offers are speed and automation. In other words, if you can help people get results faster or in an automated way, they are much more likely to take it. People are lazy and impatient, hence speed and automation always win when it comes to upsells.
At this point you are probably wondering how to do all of this upselling or downselling, right?
You have to build a marketing funnel. The good news is, you don’t have to hire a developer, you can use solutions like Click Funnels and Samcart.
They are easy to use, and you can get started in minutes.
Conclusion
Expect 2019 to be a crazy year. What worked once, won’t work in 2019.
Technology is more sophisticated and with things like machine learning and artificial intelligence knocking at the door, we are going to be on a crazy rollercoaster.
Don’t be afraid, though!
If you take the concepts above and start working on them now, you are going to be in for a much smoother ride with fewer downs and more ups.
So what do you think is going to change in 2019?

Game 369: Mythos (1985)
Maybe “Axis” isn’t a great name for a German game company? I’m just putting it out there.

I wonder if Richard Garriott ever truly understood the number of copycats and clones that spawned from Ultima. We’ve all heard about how he got upset at Deathlord (1987), but did he know about Gates of Delirium, Hera, Legends, and Skariten, all released the same year? He required SSI to license the “look and feel” of Ultima for Questron (1984), but did he realize that plenty of other titles were copying not only the look and feel but also the precise keyboard commands? Did he know that the United Kingdom’s first RPG, 1982’s The Ring of Darkness, had everything including its plot points plagiarized from Ultima? This is my 369th game. Of them, twelve have been actual Ultimas, about 28 of them have been so close that I’d call them “clones,” and another four dozen took direct inspiration from the series for one or more of their elements. I know Lord British hasn’t exactly been overlooked in the history books, but as well-known as he is, he may still get too little credit.
The influence of the series was particularly felt in Germany. The U.K. had The Ring of Darkness but mostly went their own way after that; France went its own way from pretty much the beginning, derivatives like 1984’s Tyrann aside. Germany would get there, but at the outset they always seemed to be cloning something, whether Ultima, The Bard’s Tale, or Dungeon Master. Nippon (1988), Seven Horror’s (1988), Die Dunkle Dimension (1989), Kayden Garth (1989), Dragonflight (1990), and The Ormus Saga (1991) all owed something to Ultima, and now we find that the country’s first RPG (unless something else surfaces) is a direct clone.
The game is noted for full-screen graphics during key encounters and transitions between areas.
To what extent is Mythos a clone? To the extent of using mostly the same races, classes, attributes, and spells. To the extent of having you purchase hit points from the king. To the extent of needing to find a key to free someone from the king’s jail so that you can travel through space. But it also strips away a lot of what makes Ultima tolerable. You can’t talk to guards and random NPCs, for instance. There are only four levels of weapons and armor (three of which you will probably never possess), only three spells, and only half a dozen keyboard commands.
But Mythos does add a couple of features, the most prominent of which is a number of full-screen illustrations to accompany key encounters and transitions between areas. I wouldn’t say they’re beautiful, even accounting for the graphical limitations of the era, but they’re clearly made with a lot of care, and they liven what would otherwise be a terribly fast, easy clone. There are also a couple of other twists that I’ll cover anon.
Approaching the endgame castle.
The backstory sets the game in the world of Vandor, once peaceful, plunged into chaos when the Isle of Evil emerged from the depths of the sea of Pasmes. King Aphnaton disappeared from his castle, Talamith, and the land is now ruled by his sister, Zenobia, and her husband Alexander. The light of the sun has dimmed, monsters roam the land, formerly lush valleys are now barren, cities deserted, forests full of perils. You’ve heard it before. A prophecy tells of a hero who will set things right.
Character creation.
You create this hero by allocating 60 points to strength, speed, intelligence, and wisdom and then selecting a class (warrior, thief, magician, monk) and race (man, elf, dwarf, hobbit). Just like Ultima, these selections have no effect on the game at all except by modifying your attributes. Any character can wield any weapon and cast any spell (with one exception). The game doesn’t give you the option to name your character.
The game begins at the southern end of the land.
Gameplay begins at the southern end of a continent that turns out to be shaped something like a cross, or maybe a bird with its wings expanded. It consists of maybe 10 game screens with a castle, five cities, and a few other special locations. A castle and a city are waiting for the player at the beginning of the game. Before you can enter either, you’ll probably be attacked by an orc, giant, dragon, zombie, or some other evil denizen. If you’re not surprised, you’ll have options to fight or flee. If you fight, your only options each round are to attack or cast a spell.
The game world, from an in-game map.
Like many early RPGs, success in the game comes down to simple math. You start with 300 hit points and can purchase more from the king at a rate of 100 hit points for 50 gold pieces. You also need food to keep from starving, which can be bought at the same 2:1 rate. You need about 4,000 food and 3,000 hit points to last the game, which together cost 3,500 gold pieces. You maybe need another 2,500 gold for purchases, so that’s 6,000 gold total. At a rate of about 50 gold pieces per combat, you need about 120 random combats throughout the game. You encounter far more than that in the course of exploring the world, so there’s not much need to grind except at the very beginning, when you want to build up your hit point reserve so you can comfortably explore away from the castle.
Combat options in the middle of the map.
Ultima made things harder by offering fewer gold pieces and making enemies do more damage. Here, even dragons and giants, fighting against characters with fists and no armor, do damage in the single digits. Your opening pool of 300 hit points goes a long way by itself. There’s no reason to use the S)teal command (unlike, say, Ultima II) unless you’re just incredibly impatient.
An early game “stat sheet” for the character.
There’s not much to do in the castle. There are signs saying, “weapons, “armor,” and “food,” but there isn’t actually anything there, and you can’t even open the doors to get into the locations. All you can do is visit the king, who sells hit points, and the queen, who tells you to seek her brother for his magic ring. You can also mark the location of one guy locked behind a door, as you’ll need to free him later.
The five cities are all set up the same. Weapon shops sell maces, machetes, battle axes, and swords. Armor shops sell four levels of armor. In both cases, the gap in price between the first level and second is so extreme that you’re unlikely to even buy the second level (let alone the third or fourth) before you find the magic sword and magic armor as part of the quest. I’m not sure they’d even help; enemies barely scratch you when you’re unarmed and naked.
The four types of weapons for sale.
There are three spells, each treated like inventory items that you purchase and equip. “Sanctu” heals a few hit points but is a far worse deal that just spending what it costs on extra hit points in the first place. “Exitus” lets you flee combat, but never in the game should you be in a position where you have to flee to survive. I have no idea what “Goldazium” does; every time I try to cast it, the game says “you need more intelligence or wisdom” despite my trying it with characters with scores of 35 or higher in both. There’s no way to increase attributes after creation.
Each city also has an oracle, which gives you hints, and a pub where you can often buy special items. One of these is a map of the land. Another is a special key, of which you ultimately need two.
The oracle gives me the coordinates to the old king.
Winning the game means visiting each location and piecing together the various oracle hints. It starts by purchasing the key in one of the northern cities. You use it to free a mage from the small room in the castle. As a reward, he opens a “space gate” in the northwestern “arm” of the land.
At least I don’t have to kill a bunch of guards.
To use the space gate, you need the coordinates of the planet where King Aphnaton fled. You get those from one of the oracles. The Master of Space accepts your coordinates and flings you to a one-screen planet where the only thing to do is enter a tomb. There, you encounter the ghost of King Aphnaton, who had exiled himself and was then killed by the same evil being who took over Vandor.
The master of the space gate.
This other planet looks a lot like the one i just came from.
The former king poses a riddle.
Aphnaton poses a riddle, which for me was the hardest part of the game. In German, it was:
Wie der orbis ist seine form
Und das ist seine norm
Er ist klein
Aber fein
Und gross wird dir sein nutzen sein
I translated this as:
Its shape is like the globe
And this is its norm
It is small but fine
And will be of great benefit to you
The answer was RING, which should have been obvious if I’d remembered why I needed to see the old king in the first place. But by the time I encountered him, I had forgotten that I was supposed to get a ring from him, so I was stumped on the riddle. I tried things like “egg” and “seed” before it dawned on me. The key word is orbis, which most dictionaries don’t even have as a German word. I guess maybe they were going more for “orbit” than “globe”? I have plenty of German readers, and I’m sure someone will comment. Anyway, when I finally got it right, the ghost gave me the ring and sent me back to Vandor.
The second key is needed to enter the ice caves of Madra, a relatively unusual puzzle in which you have to find your way through a series of rooms, arranged in a 5 x 5 grid, in 24 turns or you freeze to death. It’s presented in first-person wireframe form like early Ultima dungeons, although there are no monsters and otherwise nothing to do but figure out the right order through trial and error.
Navigating the ice caves.
Getting through the ice caves dumps you into a hidden valley where there’s a hidden town. In the town, the only thing to do is grab the magic sword and armor.
Don’t be fooled by the signs–the city is abandoned.
Once you have these items, you go to the far north of the map and summon the ferryman, who requires the ring and his name (CHARON), the latter also provided by an oracle. Charon ferries you to the Isle of Evil, where you enter the one-screen castle of the game’s antagonist, Irata, who helpfully has a sign in her castle announcing her intention to be evil and rule Vandor.
I think I might have been able to guess CHARON even without the oracle.
Irata’s castle. She’s in the upper-left.
So few evil enchantresses announce their intentions in contractual language.
Although there are things in the castle that look like enemies or NPCs, you can’t interact with them. You are, however, attacked by random monsters as you walk through, as if it were an outdoor map. When you reach Irata, you don’t even have to attack. The moment you approach her square, the game tells you that she catches fire and burns with a single blow from the magic sword.
That was easy!
After that, you get a final congratulations screen that says the king makes you a baron and the land is restored to peace, at least until Mythos II.
Some online rumors suggest that Köper finished Mythos II but never released it.
Other than its claim as the first German CRPG, Mythos‘s legacy rests on its creator, Karsten Köper. Just 17 when he wrote Mythos, Köper would soon begin work on a more ambitious project, Amberstar, which he brought to Thalion Software in 1991 and saw published in 1992. Thalion had previously issued Dragonflight (1990) without Köper’s influence, although that game also had a lot of references to Ultima, including a statue paying tribute to Lord British.
Who do you suppose that is?
Mythos is generally called Mythos 1 online. I guess that’s what appeared on the package. But the in-game title screen omits the number even though Köper reportedly intended the game as a trilogy. A Thalion fan site has a page dedicated to Mythos. They’ve collected a number of contemporary reviews. German magazines seemed delighted to finally have a CRPG in German and thus tended to be complimentary. One of them claimed to have spent 11 hours on it and suggested that “beginners will have fun for weeks.” What a time. As for me, I don’t need to spend a lot of time criticizing a teenager’s first game. I gave it a 17 on the GIMLET–mostly 1s and 2s, although I gave at a 3 for graphics, sound, and interface, recognizing the attention to full-screen graphics and the ease of the keyboard shortcuts.
Given that depiction of a cave entrance, I might have been too generous on the graphics.
I want to thank commenter Jan for alerting me to this title’s pedigree before I started Amberstar, which will be soon. But I’m pretty confident that after another visit to The Legacy, we can finally pick up Ultima VII where we left off.

The Panasonic EverVolt home battery complete review
Reading Time: 7 minutes
In 2019, Panasonic, one of the world’s largest battery cell manufacturers, officially launched their own residential battery storage product: the EverVolt. A scalable storage system with both AC and DC-coupled configurations, the EverVolt can provide plenty of back-up energy for your home in the event of a grid outage, especially when paired with a solar panel system.
How does the Panasonic EverVolt work?
The Panasonic EverVolt pairs well with solar panel systems, especially if your utility has reduced or removed net metering, introduced time-of-use rates, or instituted demand charges for residential electricity consumers. Installing a storage solution like the Panasonic EverVolt with a solar energy system allows you to maintain a sustained power supply during both day and night, as long as you store enough power from your solar panels when the sun is shining.
As with many other home battery products, the Panasonic EverVolt is sized for day-to-day use at your home and is primarily designed to be paired with a solar panel system. When your solar panels produce more electricity than you can use in your home, you can store the excess electricity in the battery system instead of sending it back into the grid. Later, when your panels aren’t producing enough electricity to meet your home’s needs, you can use the stored energy in your battery instead of having to buy it from your utility company.
The EverVolt is specifically designed to pair with Panasonic’s premium HIIT panels. With their built-in Enphase microinverters, you can create a complete solar plus storage home setup all under warranty by the same company.
Find out what solar costs in your area in 2020
Key things to know about the Panasonic EverVolt
In Panasonic’s own words: “With EverVolt, homeowners will be one step closer to grid independence and see a quicker return on their solar investment. EverVolt users will have the ability to store unused power to use when they need it most or sell surplus energy back to their local utility and generate income.” Uniquely, the EverVolt is available in almost identical AC and DC versions, meaning it can be just as easily installed alongside a new solar panel system as it can be added as a retrofit to an existing system.
Like many other battery companies, Panasonic provides a companion app for their energy products. With their EverVolt software and a solar plus storage system, you can view real-time energy usage and solar electricity generation.
When evaluating the EverVolt, there are various important metrics and technical specifications to keep in mind. Among the most important are the size of the battery (power and capacity), its depth of discharge, and roundtrip efficiency.
Size
The Panasonic EverVolt comes in four different models: two AC coupled (model numbers: EVAC-105-4 and EVAC-105-6) and two DC coupled (EVDC-105-4 and EVDC-105-6). Both types of EverVolts are modular, meaning they can be stacked together to create even larger, more powerful battery systems. The AC and DC coupled models are essentially the same as far as performance metrics, with the exception of roundtrip efficiency – so we’ll refer to them generally as the EverVolt 4 and EverVolt 6 to include both the AC and DC-coupled versions of the same batteries.
Two important metrics to keep in mind when comparing the EverVolt to other home storage options are power and usable capacity. Power (measured in kilowatts, or kW) determines the maximum amount of electricity that can be output at a single time, while usable capacity (measured in kilowatt-hours, or kWh) is a measure of the maximum amount of electricity stored in your battery on a full charge. The larger EverVolt 6 boasts a maximum power rating of 5.5 kW to go along with 17.1 kWh of usable capacity. The EverVolt 4 offers 4.4 kW of power and 11.4 kWh of usable capacity.
Importantly, the EverVolt system is modular, meaning that you can add multiple battery products to your storage setup if you want even more backup power. Panasonic’s EverVolt spec sheet indicates that you can connect up to two of their EverVolt 6 batteries to a single EverVolt inverter, so you’ll need to upgrade your supporting hardware to add additional storage capacity beyond the stored energy of two batteries.
Think of your battery like water running through a pipe. The usable energy capacity is the amount of water available to push through the pipe, while power is the size of the pipe itself. Larger pipes allow more water to flow through at once, which depletes the water faster. Similarly, a battery with a high power rating can deliver more electricity at one time, but will burn through its stored energy faster too.
A battery’s power determines the number of appliances you can run from the battery concurrently, while usable capacity determines how long those appliances can be run. Batteries with a higher power rating are capable of powering more, bigger appliances (i.e., your HVAC system) or many appliances at once, while batteries with a higher usable capacity can store more total energy and thus can run your appliances for longer periods of time without needing to recharge.
Basic functionality
The functionality of one solar battery next to another can vary; some batteries have excellent off-grid capabilities, while others offer software solutions specific to rate arbitrage. The suite of EverVolt products are designed to provide both of these services.
Performance metrics
Two key ways to evaluate the performance of a solar battery are its roundtrip efficiency and depth of discharge.
Roundtrip efficiency is a measure of electrical losses involved with charging and discharging a battery. The higher the efficiency percentage, the more efficiently the battery is able to convert incoming electricity into stored electricity and then back into usable electricity. The Panasonic EverVolt has a roundtrip efficiency of 84% for AC-coupled batteries and 89% for DC-coupled batteries; this means that for every 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity you put into the battery, you’ll receive 8.4 kWh of output from AC products and 8.9 kWh of output from DC products. You can read more about the difference between AC and DC batteries in our article specific to different battery technologies.
Depth of discharge (DoD) indicates the percentage of a battery’s energy that has been discharged relative to the overall capacity of the battery. Because the useful life of a battery decreases each time you charge, discharge, and re-charge–or cycle–your battery, many battery manufacturers specify a maximum DoD level for optimal battery performance. In general, batteries with a higher depth of discharge are considered better quality products. Unfortunately, the Panasonic EverVolt doesn’t list a depth of discharge on its spec sheet.
Panasonic EverVolt warranty coverage
Panasonic EverVolt warranties
Warranty period: 10 years
Guaranteed end-of-warranty capacity: 60%
The EverVolt battery line is backed by 10-year product and performance warranties that cover the product in the case of faulty parts or defects, as well as the actual performance of the battery. Panasonic’s warranty coverage says that by the end of 10 years, your EverVolt will still be able to store at least 60 percent of its initial out-of-box capacity.
Importantly, Panasonic’s battery technology is similar to other rechargeable batteries both large and small: as time goes on, the battery loses some of its ability to hold a charge. Think of how the battery life of a brand-new smartphone compares to one that is a few years old. As you continually charge and drain your phone’s battery, it starts to lose some of its ability to hold a charge.
Warranty, capacity, and power are three of the most important metrics you should consider when comparing home battery options. If you’re curious to learn more about the best way to perform your own battery comparisons, check out our video explaining how to evaluate your home energy storage options:
youtube
If you want to compare individual battery models side-by-side, our battery Buyer’s Guide lets you select products and compare them based on efficiency, capacity, power, and more.
How much does the Panasonic EverVolt cost?
The cost of installing a battery isn’t as straightforward as looking up the list price for an individual component–i.e., your battery. In fact, depending on your electrical setup, installation costs can vary widely. While there isn’t exact pricing for the EverVolt available online, some online stores are showing prices between $15,000 and $19,000 for EverVolt batteries before installation, with the low end of the scale being for EverVolt 4 batteries, and the high end for the EverVolt 6.
If you want to install the EverVolt as part of a solar-plus-storage system, battery costs are just one piece of the equation. A 5 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system costs anywhere from $9,000 to $15,000 depending on where you live and the type of equipment you choose.
That may sound like a lot of money, but installing a solar-plus-storage system can be a worthwhile investment. Whether or not the Panasonic EverVolt makes sense for you is determined by the way that your electric utility structures its rates, as well as your reasons for installing a solar battery.
In some cases, depending on where you live, you may have access to financial incentives that can reduce your home energy storage installation costs. For instance, if you live in California, you could get a cash rebate that covers most of your home battery costs through the Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). Other states (such as Massachusetts) are in the early stages of evaluating battery storage performance incentives as well, and several states already provide cash rebates.
Can you go off-grid with the Panasonic EverVolt?
Installing a solar-plus-storage system at your home is a great way to take control of your electricity bill, but it doesn’t mean that you’re completely disconnected from your utility. Going “off the grid” with solar batteries is actually a more expensive and complicated proposition than you might think. Most home batteries, including the EverVolt, only have enough capacity to store a few hours of electricity. If you want to make sure you can maintain power to your property for days at a time, you’ll need to install several EverVolt batteries together to increase your storage capabilities.
Where to buy the Panasonic EverVolt
The Panasonic EverVolt battery is currently available online through Panasonic’s website, where you can request a quote and through any solar and/or energy storage installation company that is a certified Panasonic installer. Adding energy storage technology to your home is a complicated process that requires electrical expertise, certifications, and knowledge of the best practices required to install a solar-plus-storage system correctly. 10 Awesome 2020 Road Bikes to Consider
If you’re in the market for a new bike this year, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re looking for a budget bike to get you into the sport of cycling, a top-of-the-line dream bike or something in between, these 10 bikes in a variety of price ranges are some of the best options available in 2020.
Giant Contend 3 $680 With a comfortable and reasonably light aluminum frame, a wide range of gear options and a forgiving geometry, this bike is a solid option for anyone looking to get into cycling for fitness on a budget. Shimano Claris components are solid baseline components and should take a pounding without much trouble. While the wheels could use an eventual upgrade, there’s a lot to like at this price tag — and for beginners who have a lot of other gear to buy when getting into the sport, it’s a great option.
Kona Rove $849 This bike is an absolute tank, but not all bikes need to be feathery race bikes. While it slides into the gravel category and should be plenty of fun there, we like this bike just as much for a dedicated winter road bike or daily commuter. The frame clearance allows up to a 40mm tire that eats up rough roads, and the geometry is forgiving and stable, providing handling that inspires confidence when you pick up speed or find yourself on less than ideal terrain.
Jamis Ventura Comp $1,080 Jamis is a bit of an under-the-radar brand when it comes to road bikes. The new Ventura Comp model should help spread the word, as it is a bike that’s both comfortable and performs at a level above its price range. Some of this is due to Jamis’ varying tube sizes depending on the size of the frame instead of using one standard size, which balances this bike very well and makes the handling predictable. A carbon fork, Shimano Sora drivetrain, 28mm-wide tires, along with fender and rack mounts are other standout features.
Specialized Allez Sprint Comp Disc $2,220 If you want a bike suited for a variety of racing conditions, the Allez Sprint can do it all and is much cheaper than its carbon counterparts. The stiffness of the aluminum frame is one noteworthy feature and makes its performance during sprints and climbs notable. The trusty, durable Shimano 105 drivetrain and DT R470 wheels are a perfect match for the frame and won’t necessarily require an upgrade unless you want an extra edge in the speed department.
Cervelo C2 $2,900 This endurance bike from Cervelo is a well-balanced bike that’s light and fun, making it great for soaking up tons of miles during training along with the occasional century or Gran Fondo. Squoval IPC tube shapes also help the frame soak up more from the road without affecting lateral stiffness or weight — meaning the emphasis on comfort won’t cost your performance. Disc brakes and Shimano 105 components are other excellent additions, though if we do see one drawback it’s the overall weight of the wheels that won’t complement the climbing capabilities of the rest of the bike.
LIV Avail Advanced 1 $2,950 While there are still many bike manufacturers that don’t produce women’s-only frames, LIV has made a name for itself by making bikes only for women. This allows it to fine-tune its geometry to provide bikes that are comfortable and best fit women’s bodies. The new Avail Advanced 1 is not only a great looking bike, it’ll also inspire you to go longer when you have the time. A carbon composite frame reduces overall weight while the D-Fuse seat post helps reduce road vibration. Disc brakes improve stop powering in all conditions and 3F geometry provides a super smooth ride that you’re sure to enjoy.
Trek Domane SL 6 $3,799 For cyclists looking to make the jump from entry-level to a dedicated performance bike, the new Trek Domane SL6 is reasonably priced for the quality of bike you’ll receive. The OCLV carbon frame is lightweight and shaped to take advantage of aerodynamics while the Shimano Ultegra drivetrain lowers overall weight and improves shifting and braking performance. Other favorite features include the tubeless-ready wheels and the Elite IsoZone handlebar, which helps reduce upper-body fatigue.
Scott Addict Gravel 20 $3,799 While some gravel bikes can suffer in terms of performance once you hit the asphalt, the Addict Gravel is suited equally for either. Of course, you get beefed up Shimano GRX components and Schwalbe’s G-One 35mm tires to handle the rough stuff, but it’s the quality of the carbon frame and the high performance of the Syncros RP2.0 that should have most excited about this bike’s abilities to tackle all of your adventures.
Cannondale Supersix Evo Neo 2 $6,500 Looking for a way to hang with the pack or just ride further? The E-Road category is expanding, and this electric model from Cannondale is a sign of what the future may hold. Using a rear hub electric drive system, the bike has a range of up to 62 miles with a 250W battery and a ceiling of about 20 miles per hour. This should help you crush any climb that comes your way, while the rest of the components and aerodynamically shaped tubing adds up to an outstanding bike even without the extra power.
Colnago C64 Disc $6,000+ (frame only) When you finish building this bike with your desired drivetrain and wheelset, the price probably approaches the superbike range. But if you’re looking for a top-of-the-line dream bike, you could do a lot worse than the C64 disc. Known for producing some of the finest Italian bikes in the world, this Colnago is the only carbon frame made in Italy instead of being outsourced. The lug construction used to piece the tubing together at its junctions is robust, taking design features from its steel bikes of the ‘50s and ‘60s. This leads to a light, stiff and balanced bike that is about as smooth on the road as any bike you could ever hope to ride.
