Day 8 - Finished Sweater
Tumblr media
It's finished! While there are definitely some things I would change if I do this again (namely the sleeves) I'm very happy with the results. It's so warm and cozy, and I can't wait to wear it next weekend to an outdoor event we're going to! Hasn't been blocked, and may not be for some time as there's not really space for it to dry in our apartment.

Dustland Shawl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been done for a couple days, but I was waiting to see if I have enough mats to block it first. I'm just a bit short! Maybe 2 or 3 more blocks would have been perfect. So eventually this will be blocked, but for now, I think it looks nice as it is.
I ended this a bit short due to yarn shortage reasons, but it's still a very large shawl, I'm not sure I'd want it much bigger than this. I also won yarn chicken! My bind off takes quite a bit of yarn, but I guessed nearly perfectly when to bind off to have enough yarn for it.

Dustland Shawl
Tumblr media
I had a lot more of the yarn left over from my sweater than expected, so that means casting on a new sweater with what was left! Since this yarn is a bit thicker than the pattern calls for, I may not do as many repeats as it says, but it's sure to be a good sized, fun textured shawl when I'm done. So far, I really like the crescent shape of it as well.

Day 7
Tumblr media
I finished the first sleeve! Only one more to go. I have short arms, so I did have to make some changes to the pattern to make all the decreases fit in the sleeve, and I have some ideas for next time to make it fit me better, but so far I'm happy with it! Hoping to finish the second sleeve tomorrow but I don't know if I will be able to based on how long the first sleeve took me.
I've also used about 2 less balls of yarn than expected. The first sleeve only took one ball of yarn, so I'm anticipating the second to take the same, bringing my total to 7 balls of yarn (approximately 1400 yds) vs the 9 balls I expected (a little less than 1800 yds). I'm not sure if the pattern just gave a lot of wiggle room or if not, where I used that much less yarn, but I have about 1000 yds of this yarn left over, since I usually buy a little extra just in case, and used less than expected. If you have any ideas for what to make with what's left, let me know!

Dustland Shawl Progress
Tumblr media
I'm officially at the point where it's hard to photograph and it just looks like a scrunched up blob of knitting. But I only have 62 more rows left of 170 total, which makes me definitely past halfway by row count, and by stitch count.... Well, my rows are about to hit the 400s in stitches, so I'm going to assume I'm closer to halfway by stitch count without actually doing the math.
Bonus shot of the texture under the cut:

I'm really loving how the texture is forming so far. Kind of makes me want to knit the Dustland sweater next.

Days 5 and 6
Tumblr media
Here's where I left off after the end of day 5. I got through most of the body yesterday, with just a couple inches left to do today.

And for day 6, I finished the body, bottom hem, and the neckline, and have just started on the right sleeve (the one on the left side of the picture)! Making good progress, so my goal is still to finish by the end of the week, or about one sleeve per day for the next two days.

Day 4
Tumblr media
Once again, I'm not quite done working on this for the night, but I put it on a longer cord to measure it before I got too much further, and it fits really well! I'm thinking around 11 more inches of the body before I start the ribbing, but we're definitely getting there. Around halfway through yarn ball #3, which based on meterage, puts me approximately a quarter to a third of the way done. So far I'm having a great time with it!

Day 1
Tumblr media
Pattern is the free Flax sweater by Tin Can Knits, and I'm using their app which is very nice to use to knitting their patterns. Yarn is Wool Ease in Arrowwood, and it is the softest I have ever felt Wool Ease be, so I guess the yarn gods are smiling on this project. This is my first attempt at knitting a sweater, though I have crocheted one and a half of them, and this will also probably be my biggest project to date, though the Supernova mkal was also quite large, and quite a few stitches.
I'm doing the short rows version, knitting my neck ribbing afterwards, and this will be size xxl because I want it to be a little loose on me.
