â OPEN & KIRA. â HOLIDAY MINGLE AT LAKESHORE COUNTRY CLUB.
With the glistening white blanket of snow somehow the decorations were even more beautiful. Christmastime wasn't a personal holiday for Kira, and even if it was her estrangement with her family would put a damper on the years long tension. With recent news there was an unsettling in her stomach as she made her way around. Part of her wanted to jump in on the kids crafts but instead she people watched and chuckled at the ugly sweaters. "Do you think it was a good idea to offer free spiked drinks?" Kira's dimpled, shy grin displayed her amusement as she found someone else standing back a bit and admiring the crowd.

location: lakeshore country club when: december 12th around 6 pm who: maeve peters + open Although it was unusual for Maeve to attend an event with her daughter at home, it felt refreshing to do something for herself. She had hired a babysitter for the evening and put effort into getting ready, dressing up as elegantly as possible before heading to the country club. The venue was stunning, draped in festive decor that perfectly captured the Christmas spirit. Maeve had been quietly observing the lively crowd for a couple of hours, sipping her drink and soaking in the atmosphere. Then, she noticed someone making their way toward her. "This place is stunning, isn't it?" she said warmly. "Are you enjoying yourself?"

While plenty of festivities were being held inside, attendees had taken to building snowmen in the open clearing just outside next to the barn. Some snowmen were decorated with sticks and rocks dug out from under the snow, others with actual hats and scarves left by their creators. The tallest one had been a group effort, one heâd gotten in on earlier in the evening. But it seemed that more height had been added since then and now the nearly ten foot snowman loomed over the rest.
Felipe had stopped to get one last look before heading home when he heard the soft crunching sound of approaching steps on the snow and turned to the other person, offering a friendly smile. "They should really hold a contest for this next year," he gestured at the field of snowmen, "Winner gets to demolish the rest. I mean, how fun would that be?"

"I suppose that's what I get for putting my foot in my mouth with wanting a snowball fight." The man found himself uttering, though he was laughing as his fingers ran through his hair from being pelted with a snowball. Though, props to the one who threw it. Perfect aim and a perfect shot.

Logan rarely ever got out of his apartment if it wasn't for work or maybe a trip to the local library but after much internal debate he had decided to go to the country club for the holiday mingle event that had flyers advertised all over town for what felt like forever. As he walked into the country club he looked around, gobsmacked. It was absolutely gorgeous. He hadn't felt very christmas-y in some years but at that moment that was as close as he felt to an older version of himself. "This looks incredible," he mumbled to himself before sliding his hands into his pockets and stepping into the room a little more. As he began to walk toward the group of people he sucked in a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. For a moment he looked back at the door and thought to head out but instead slipped his left hand out of his pocket and placed it just below his sternum trying to keep his anxiety at bay. Thankfully someone walked past him with a tray of drinks. Grabbing a class of whiskey he took a sip, more trying to keep his hands busy rather than drinking to drink.

Remington wasn't much of a decorator but he had to give credit to whoever set these kinds of things up. It must have taken a lot of planning and setting up. A lot of hours for sure. There was respect there. However- there was no respect for people in masses who should not be allowed to sing, caroling their hearts out. Were his ears bleeding? On the verge. "I knew I should have brought more if this keeps up." He more so mumbled to himself as a group of carolers had just finished their horrid rendition of the Jingle Bells song. After the words though were spoken, Remington grabbed the flask out of his coat pocket and poured the contents of the Irish Whiskey into the mug of coffee he currently was sporting.

open starter 3/3 ; woodside holiday mingle
" It's kind of unfair, isn't it? The kids getting a whole tent dedicated to coloring and crafts and yet all the adults get is alcohol. " Crumb swishes the inch of beer that remains in his glass around and around. He'll likely never finish it. It's gone warm, and he should've stopped a glass and a half ago anyway. Now he's stuck mingling with the locals until he's sober enough to drive home and mingle with his pillows and blankets. " Don't get me wrong, the beveraginos have been delicious, it's just, you know. " A shrug. " What if I wanted to color and eat Hershey's kisses out of a decorative bowl all night? "

Spikable hot beverages, beer/wine and kid-friendly options will be served out of the barn bar and vintage bar truck all evening. They were good, kind people, just trying to get into the spirit â Keziah had to remind herself of that. They weren't trying to torture her. Yet, every single time another person went off-key or sang louder to highlight their screeching, she was forced to self-soothe. They were good, kind people, just trying to get into the spirit. She was contemplating how much longer she was going to suffer through this, glancing down at the spiked eggnog she'd grabbed on the way in, then at her side when someone who sounded a lot like her intrusive thoughts spoke her complaints out loud. She had to giggle into her cup, shaking her head, "I'd say yes, but I'm trying to behave tonight. I actually want to make it home without a hair out of place."
Availability â open to everyone
Location â jingle and mingle
She had to remember to buy a flask after this. The bottle of water that held vodka had went undetected by many but she'd gotten odd looks when she poured it into her already spiked drink. A few had asked to share and she'd pretended not to hear them before rushing off, fearing that even what she brought wouldn't be enough to drown out the sound of some of the carollers who were allowed to sing. "Would I be on the naughty list if I hit whomever told that grey haired woman it was okay for her to sing? She may become my new paralysis demon or visit me in my nightmares. I just know that voice will haunt me for a long time." Sharing her recent trauma brought out some of her generosity, tilting the half empty bottle. "Want some?"

Logan chuckled softly before looking around and leaning in slightly to whisper, "a celebration, within a celebration, is that even allowed?" He grinned slightly and nodded when she said the holidays managed to creep up, " it's like one second you're not even thinking about the end of the year and the next you're trying to remember each person you have to get a present for." He cleared his throat a little when he realised she noticed his hand placement but tried his best to be as casual as he could. He smiled and looked down a moment before looking back at her. "I thought if you can't try on Christmas, or at least close to, when can you try but thank you. I was planning on being a lot less awkward but as you can tell that didn't quite work out." He looked at the corner and then back at her. "Truth be told, the corner did look quite inviting but I'm glad I could help."
He tilted his glass back in response before patting an obviously empty pocket. "I have my stack of notes right here. Prepped and ready to go with everyone's names, just in case." He flashed a little cheeky grin. Playfully, he wiped at his forehead with the back of his hand, "phew, even a mediocre start would have been good but a strong stat. I'm quite pleased with that." He looked at her with a curious expression before looking at the crowd not too far from them and then back to her. "Really? I had you pegged as the belle of the ball but okay if I decide to make a break for it you'll be the first, and probably only one, to know.
Maeve tilted her head slightly, a wry smile tugging at her lips as Logan spoke. âSelf-improvement by tolerating Mariah Carey? Iâd say thatâs worthy of a little celebration,â she teased, her voice warm and light. âThough Iâll admit, the holidays do have a way of sneaking up on you like that. One minute youâre rolling your eyes at the music, and the next youâre humming along when you think no oneâs listening.â Her gaze followed his subtle gesturesâthe swirling glass, the hand at his chestâand while she didnât call it out, she softened in response, choosing her words carefully. âAh, so youâre a first-timer and a gauntlet dodger. Bold move coming out tonight.â There was no mockery in her tone, only a quiet understanding like she knew what it meant to feel out of place in a room full of people. âIâm glad you decided to skip the corner, though. Makes my job of finding the interesting ones a little easier.â
She took a slow sip of her drink, a small spark of recognition lighting up her expression as he said her name. âMaeve, yeah.â She tilted her glass toward him in an easy salute. âYouâve got a good memory, Logan. Or did someone prep you for the whoâs who of tonightâs crowd?â Her smile lingered as she leaned a bit closer, dropping her voice just slightly as if sharing a secret. âFor what itâs worth, youâre pulling off the ânot creepyâ part just fine. Plus, youâve already survived the Mariah Carey gauntlet, so Iâd say youâre off to a strong start.â Her gaze held his for a moment before she added, a little more sincerely, âAnd hey, if you get the urge to make a break for the door, give me a heads-up. I might just join you.â

The holiday festivities were the usual merry-go-round of pleasantries â what were they doing, would they be visiting home, had their gift shopping been done yet? Keziah fielded all of the questions the same way; bright-eyed, warm and friendly â though, the façade begun to wear thin the closer the 25th came around. She wouldn't be going home for the holidays this year, and not for lack of trying. Maybe attending the Holiday Mingle would get her into the spirit â she'd gotten her hands on some mulled wine, and was slinking her way through the excited crowd, some popular 80s Christmas song coming from the live band. Teetering between self-pity and self-indulgence, brown eyes zeroed in on a familiar face. "Maeve," she breathed out, "Thank God, someone I know. I was this close to going home and having a Twilight marathon."

No matter how many times she saw snow â Keziah was mesmerized. The white encasing every inch of her eyeline, illuminating it in this soft blueish glow; the very epitome of the holidays. It didn't feel like Christmas without some snow. She was sure if she'd gone home for the holidays, she wouldn't be so lucky. It was like the snow decided to hide away whenever it came to the hallowed Emem-Murphy Christmas extravaganza. Maybe the universe could feel the tension in the air. Dark, misty eyes roamed over the festivities, steam rose from the cup of hot cocoa spiked with KahlĂșa, hugged between frosty fingers. Only slightly annoyed by the sheer amount of ugly Christmas sweaters this year. "If they didn't, I probably wouldn't be here," she admitted with a soft laugh, glancing down at the drink in her hands, "I don't think I'd make it through this thing... sober. ââ And yes, I know how bad that sounds."
