South Carolina woman shoots abusive boyfriend

A woman accused of killing her boyfriend is speaking out after months of silence. She was arrested in January after her longtime on-again, off-again boyfriend was shot in her garage. Now, she's speaking out for the first time, saying she did it.

Jones says she killed James Michael Ritchie in self-defense.

"I had to. I had to in order to save him," she said.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Jones admitted to killing Ritchie in a 911 call.

"He shot me through the window. I'm dead now and you're all going crazy. Get rid of me," she told 911 at the time.

But when investigators went to Jones' trailer on South Carolina's I-85, the 53-year-old didn't want to tell them about the shooting.

"It was, like she said, 'I don't want to get my feet in this, I don't want to get my hands involved. I'm just worried for my kids and I am the only person that knows,'" says Lt. Mike Ward.
