　ルワンダのコーヒー輸出高は世界流通量の0.2%程度、アフリカ大陸の中でも小さな生産国です。し��しながら、同国にとって コーヒーは主要産業のひとつであり大きな経済の柱です（アフリカのスイスとも言われ、足もとではITを中心に目覚ましい経済発展を遂げています）。'94年に起こったジェノサイド以降 コーヒー生産量は4割程までしか戻っていませんが、その数字以上にかつてとは異なる 高品質なコーヒー生産を目指した取り組みは目を見張るものがあります。Huyeはそんな動きが始まった土地、他のロースターからもこれまで紹介してまいりましたが、現在のこの地域のコーヒーを是非この機会に感じていただけたらと思います！

　Simbi CWSは、ルワンダ南部のHuyeにある 農業組合グループが運営・管理する施設です。2011年から建設が進み 2013年に運用開始すると、同年ここで生産されたコーヒーがCup of Excellenceで9位にランクインしました。以来、毎シーズン より高品質なコーヒー生産を行うため 厳格な選定と加工基準を見直してきています。

　本ロットは、Cyendajuruの約150人の組合メンバーにより集められたコーヒーチェリーをNaturalプロセスで処理したもの。メンバーの75％が女性という同組合の性質も踏まえ "Women’s Hands" というラベルを冠して 女性生産者がリードする高品質なコーヒー生産を伝えています。ルワンダのコーヒー生産では一般的に、ウェットミルでの攪拌や輸送などの力仕事を男性が、収穫やハンドピックなどの細やかで人数のいる仕事を女性が担う役割分担が根付いています（ジェノサイド以降 国として男性が少ないこともあっての慣習）。高品質なコーヒーを生産する上で女性が担っているパートはカップ評価の根幹であり、その精度向上がコーヒーの価値を向上させるための重要なファクターであることを再認識して現状を最大限に活かした取り組みでもあります。
