devi: the goddess within
i have often heard people refer to women as devi insisting on their divinity. but often the implications are about Sati or Sita; the ones who perform sacrifices as their earthly duties. but what if she’s not?
what if she’s a mere human with many many faults and flaws that she works on diligently? what if instead of being single dimensional, she’s kaleidoscopic? what if she’s wrathful like Chandi but also demure like Gauri? what if she’s the source of life like Aditi but also dwells in cremation grounds like Kali? what if she’s wise like Saraswati but also possesses immense beauty like Laxmi?
if you really think about it, perhaps her dharma is only to figure out her life and honor her own light. perhaps, the reason she exists is for herself but she chooses to welcome others and love them. perhaps, she is the embodiment of all the devis; but on her own terms, just how she wants to be.

it will fovever pain me to see how misinterpreted women are in romance. I hate it when people generalize things based on gender and all, but how can I not defend women in love when all romance songs are written and sung by men? all the poems by men yearning for women? every play, book, piece of media is made by men and women are called "selfish" "goldiggers" and "bewafa" when it comes to love. Have you heard of Maa Sita? Or Maa Radha? Or any avatar of Mata Lakshmi for that matter? Have you heard of Mata Parvati doing tapasya for thousands of years? Mata Sati burning herself from hearing her husbands insults? Mata Saraswati literally being declared wed the moment she was born and still doing her Patni Dharm? Women can obsess in love, yearn, crave, cry, write, create art, think of their beloved every passing moment and it will never be enough... because there are a 1000 types of men, and then just a *woman*. We are an archetype, a side character, a prize to be won, we are half the population yet so aliented and unknown, we have a "charitra" and can only ever be defined by men either as whore or virgin mary. perhaps I'm an exception but I'm tired of hearing "Men in love this" "Men in love that" okay but have you ever seen a woman in love?

beyond tired but look how pretty. First trip ever to Vrindavan. The heat was maddening. The lassi has my heart forever. The monkeys took my father's glasses(got them back in exchange for three frootis). The hotel service was abysmal. I adored the love you feel inside the city. As if the gods' beating heart is what keeps the city alive. Bankey Bihari ji is beautiful. Radha Rani is ethereal. The paintings on the ceiling of the temple were breathtaking. We got lost in the streets many times. Google maps is blind. I'm going to sleep now.

a joy to present my PhD work at the School of Divinity [Edinburgh] yesterday on my first research panel 😊 i talked about the gendered politics inscribed in the body of Draupadī, the Mahābhārata's heroine. i argued that it is significant that a text such as the Mahābhārata, which holds so much religious, cultural and spiritual weight, includes the story of a sexually assaulted woman, and, moreover, one of divine origin, because it offers women subjected to gendered violence the opportunity to unearth psychological comfort in Draupadī's story, and the opportunity to shed shame and fears of impurity rooted in varied internalisations of social or religious messages. through the prism of shared experience, the trauma is voiced and processed, which percolates in the social stratum, where, by claiming and reimagining Draupadī's symbol, women ask for and enact socio-political change. i am exploring this movement in my thesis. ❤️‍🔥
astounding to listen to & learn from the presentations of the colleagues who shared the panel with me, and to engage with the work differently during the q&a portion; openings to approach the work differently, freshly, in ways i wouldn't be prone to without external stimulus.
thank you @ishitahp for the photos & video! 🫶

Navaratri or durga puja?
Just a saying but it's the worship of the godess, just two different ways in the same country.
Happy Navaratri to all my south indians
Happy durga puja to all my north indians.
Sleep well my dear homies.

Spiritual Education I’m Working On
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. 10 minute meditation everyday.
Light a lamp in front of you. Focus on the flame for 5 whole minutes, with deep inhalations and exhalations. Close your eyes, envision the flame between your eyes and chant “Om” with deep breaths for another 5 minutes.
Stay in the present - focus on your breathing.
2. Reading spiritual books
- The Fall of Human Intellect, A Parvasarthy (finished)
- Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda (finished)
- The Kindle of life, Chinmayananda Saraswati (ongoing)
3. Learning Vastu Shastra
The 5000 year old ancient science of architecture. I want to get into Vedic Mathematics next.
