main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:
michael myers is canonically 21??? this bitch should be at the club
*sees tiddies* ***MURDEROUS RAMPAGE NOISES***
that's it that's the movie
outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative
actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.
aka Michael Myers Is A Republican
but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too
also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain
side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty
i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978
(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)
oh no he's hot
#HALLOWEEN#halloween the movie#michael myers#do you think he's a mike? mikey? to his friends? if slashers had friends?#i'll be honest i was expecting this movie to be way more of a bitch to its female characters#i mean yeah they died but so did some dudes#there's just a lack of cattiness compared to the way most later movies portrayed teenage girls idk#yeah the Final Girl is a Virgin and a Bookworm. but there's no bullying or any strong sense that's she's morally superior to everyone else#mostly she AND the other girls feel a bit sorry for her lack of a social life. one even tries to set her up with a date to the school dance#solidarity! trying to get your nerd friend laid!#overall it's just teenagers being teenagers and then a slasher comes in and ruins everything with his Lack Of Chill#like yeah dude sometimes teenagers have sex. get over it#also something to be said about how while the girl who survives is the one who isn't sexually active and dresses conservatively...#ultimately those things aren't ENOUGH to prevent her from being targeted#you could say that the other girls 'provoked' the villain (the same way women irl are so often accused of provoking their attackers)#but ultimately that doesn't keep the Final Girl safe. it just delays the inevitable.#because violent men never need excuses. no matter how eager society is to provide them.#ultimately she is at the mercy of the same violent whims because it was never her behavior that invited the violence.#gendered violence doesn't need an invitation.#also she doesn't save herself the doctor saves her#it's not her actions or choices that put her in danger OR save her from it--once again it is the whim of a man#no this wasn't intended to be a feminist movie it's just fun how you could argue it that way

I was talking about a historical male author I dislike because I found his works misogynistic and the person said, "Oh, well I suppose you don't read Shakespeare either." and I was like, "Shakespeare? SHAKESPEARE?!?! Of course I read Shakespeare, that man loved women."
Shakespeare wrote a wide variety of fleshed out female characters. He wrote Damsels in Distress, Cross-dressing Girlbosses, and Complex Female Villains. He wrote a woman who refused to sell her virtue to save her family and then shamed her brother for suggesting it. He wrote Taming of the Shrew and it's opposite, All's Well that Ends Well, in which the wife hunts down and tames the husband. He wrote men who are good because they listen to, trust, and defend women. He wrote women of all kinds. He wrote women who drive the plot and women doomed by the narrative. He wrote women in love and women who pathetically follow a man who doesn't like them and women in hatred. He wrote sensible women and silly women and everything in between of all ages.
I wish modern authors could write women as well as he did.
#shakespeare#Portia from The Merchant of Venice is the cross-dressing girlboss#Complex female villains include Lady Macbeth and the older sisters in King Lear#Measure for Measure is the virtue girl#Benedick is good because he believes Beatrice and defends Hero#Even the women in Taming of the Shrew have personalities#as problematic as that play feels today#The author I dislike is Trollope by the way#Aren't there some wives who just troll a guy for the whole play?#Merry Wives of Windsor? Falstaff? Am I remembering this correctly#anyway#absolute champion of writing women

The basegame wedding dress has a pregnancy morph??
#I can never be positive if something in my game is like. a third-party launcher addition#but this is so funny and I had such a strong hunch#because rushing to have your Sim get married before they give birth is such a thing so many players would do!!#and it would be so funny to pay attention to that detail by having the wedding dress show the bump!!!!#all your sim's wedding photos very obviously giving away the reason for the rushed date HAHA#the dress with the pendant at the back that everyone default replaces off (the one with the knife texture) also has a preg morph#which I know because it's the one your Sims get forced into if they attend a wedding#but it's kind of unusual because pregnant Sims don't have the opportunity to change into formal wear?#like pregnant Sims get new undies pyjamas and swimwear in addition to their maternity outfit#and if you direct a pregnant Sim to change into one of them then it changes them into the appropriate maternity fit instead of their usual#but you can't direct them to change into formal and if you use a hacked option like the shop any-wear rack it uses their usual non morph fi#so it has to be something external like a wedding that triggers them to change into formal. and I have no idea why#does this mean there's a BG suit with a preg morph for men??#or did maxis not think that pregnant male Sims would be quite so desperate to get married#anyway I'm probably the last person to know about this LMAO and I'm sure no one cares bc everyone uses wear-anything mods#but I'm a scrub who still prefers to use the default maternity meshes so this is yuge to me#also if you've never seen this dress b4: in the early game all Sims getting married under an arch used to be forced into the same outfits#actually I can't remember if the men got forced into the same suit or if they just used their regular formal#because most BG formal outfits for men were mostly wedding-appropriate#but at any rate. all women wore the same wedding dress. and it was this .... beauty#and I don't remember with which EP it changed but probably pretty early on they just let Sims use their regular formal wear for weddings#so you could pick their wedding dress yourself#but this dress remained hidden by default (I think?) so ironically it meant you COULDN'T use the wedding dress even if you wanted to#also this is completely off topic but you would also go away for your honeymoon#which meant the Sims getting married would literally get driven away in a limousine and stay off-world for a while#it was kind of cute because it really was like they took a vacation from the player too. got up to their own mischief away from your contro#then with bon voyage they introduced ACTUAL vacations and they turned honeymoons into an actual game mechanic#but again these offworld honeymoons are no longer a possibility#kind of like teens 'going out' with permission got replaced by going out on actual outings/dates even though it was a cute event#wow this note section is long and irrelevant. anyway enjoy picking up your wedding dress from a store called 'It's Not Too Late'

How to Style Nour Fathallah's Off-Shoulder Gowns for Every Occasion
In the realm of fashion, few styles evoke the timeless allure and sophistication quite like off-shoulder gowns. When it comes to this exquisite design, Nour Fathallah's creations stand out as epitomes of glamour and grace. Whether you're attending a daytime soiree, an evening gala, or a red carpet-event, here's your guide on how to style Nour Fathallah's off-shoulder gowns for every occasion.
The Versatility of Nour Fathallah's Off-Shoulder Gowns
Daytime Elegance
For daytime events, opt for a side cut dress variant of Nour Fathallah's off-shoulder gowns. The subtle reveal adds a touch of allure without being too overpowering. Choose lighter colors like pastels or floral patterns for a refreshing daytime look. A knee-length off-shoulder dress paired with nude heels and minimal accessories strikes the perfect balance between casual and chic.
Evening Glamour
When the sun sets, it's time to elevate your style. Choose a cocktail gown from Nour Fathallah's collection for an evening affair. The flowing silhouette and intricate detailing on these gowns make them ideal for a sophisticated night out. Complement your look with statement earrings and a sleek clutch. Go for bold colors or classic black to make a lasting impression.
Red Carpet Ready
For red-carpet events, embrace the grandeur of a ball gown. Nour Fathallah's ball gown dresses are a testament to luxury and opulence. Opt for rich fabrics and dramatic silhouettes to ensure you stand out. Complete the look with a pair of stiletto heels and a glamorous updo. When it comes to the red carpet, there's no such thing as too much glamour.
Pairing Accessories with Nour Fathallah's Off-Shoulder Gowns
Jewelry Choices
Accessorizing is the key to elevating your off-shoulder gown game. For daytime events, keep it simple with delicate bracelets and stud earrings. In the evening, don't shy away from statement necklaces and bold cocktail rings. When donning a ball gown, opt for intricate chandelier earrings to frame your face elegantly.
Footwear Selection
Your outfit can be made or broken by the right shoes. For a daytime event, choose comfortable yet stylish footwear like strappy sandals or low heels. Evening affairs call for more elevated choices, such as stiletto heels or embellished pumps. When wearing a ball gown, ensure your shoes peek out just enough to make a statement.
Clutch and Handbag Combinations
Selecting the right clutch or handbag is crucial to complete your ensemble. A sleek clutch with subtle embellishments works wonders for evening events. For daytime gatherings, a chic handbag in a complementary color adds a touch of sophistication. When opting for a ball gown, a small clutch with intricate detailing ensures you carry your essentials in style.
Nailing the Look: Hair and Makeup Tips
Hairstyles that Complement Off-Shoulder Styles
The neckline of off-shoulder gowns provides the perfect canvas for showcasing your hairstyle. Opt for chic updos like a messy bun or a sleek chignon for an evening event. For a daytime look, loose waves or a half-up, half-down hairstyle adds a touch of romance. Experiment with hairstyles that highlight your shoulders and neck, enhancing the overall elegance.
Makeup Tips for a Polished Finish
A flawless makeup application is a finishing touch to your Nour Fathallah off-shoulder gown ensemble. For daytime events, keep it fresh with a light foundation, neutral eyeshadows, and a pop of color on the lips. As the day turns into night, intensify your makeup with smoky eyes or bold lips. When wearing a ball gown, don't be afraid to go for a more dramatic and glamorous makeup look to match the opulence of the gown.
Conclusion
In the world of fashion, styling Nour Fathallah's off-shoulder gowns is an art form. Whether you're opting for a side-cut dress, a cocktail gown, or a majestic ball gown, understanding the versatility of these designs allows you to express your unique style on every occasion. Embrace the elegance, pair with the right accessories, and confidently step into the spotlight, showcasing the beauty and grace inherent in Nour Fathallah's timeless creations.

I watch a fun IG reel of a maid getting dressed in 1790 vs. 1890. it's great! both maids are in practical, period-typical outfits with a few simple aesthetic touches because Humans Like Looking Good regardless of social class. you can tell they are maids because they put clearly functional aprons on, and the 1890s one is wearing a uniform-style cap. also the caption says they are. love it
I scroll down
the top comment: "but what did POOR women wear? you only ever show rich people's clothes!"
#dress history#fashion history#historical costuming#perhaps...working women...had nicer clothes than you realize?#perchance they...did NOT go about in rags?#shocking to even consider I know!#also if they're not being educational historical costumers don't owe you working-class ensembles in their fun personal hobby#but that's another conversation#(I'm a normal person 24/7! let me be a countess for a while!)

getting all of the banter dialogue for dorian and bull so they can be a couple in dai is so... ugh. there is some genuinely wonderful stuff to explore in their dynamic, with iron bull abandoning the qun and dorian leaving tevinter and what it means to have done that and finding themselves as people, but. christ. the fetishization and oversexualization of the qunari in da is fucking hair tearingly painful, and it is at its most obvious with iron bull and dorian. really hoping that something changes for the taash romance, but i am,, kind of doubtful.
#dai#dragon age#dragon age inquisition#not really sure what to tag this as. because i DO enjoy adoribull. i DO. but holy fuck.#uhhh i guess i'll tag characters. again i like adoribull this isnt anti-adoribull but it is me clenching my fist and scowling#dorian pavus#iron bull#the iron bull#its not Just them. its how iron bull is written in general. its how the qunari are so widely percieved to be animalistic and hulking and#violent. its even sera's little comments on specifically finding qunari women attractive because of their physical traits of being#big and muscle-y. and then the tamassrans and how the qunari dress. its not just One#of these things. but its all of them added up together that makes it uncomfortable.#not even including the rest of the mess of the qun and how fucked that is. bioware has fucked up so bad with how they present the qunari an#even the elves. its so. ugh.#ignore me im complaining#bioware-critical#i guess#also generally anxious on how theyre going to handle taash being (spoiler) but i'll wait to give more thoughts on that
