Tagged in this chain and going to restart it bc it's already really long and I honestly hurt you guys enough
(Tagged by @primordial-196er ILY!!!! 💜💜)
Today's questions are...
What's the last song you listened to?: Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. Fun fact: Beastie is actually an acronym (well, a backronym); it stood for Boys Entering Anarchistic States Toward Inner Excellence. :33
What are you watching right now?: F*ck, That's Delicious. I love food and I love rap, and the guys on the show have such adorable interactions, like, oh my god. Plus one of the guys, the Alchemist, has been my favorite producer since I was a kid
What are you reading right now?: The first Dune book. I understand why people criticize it but I'm honestly enjoying it. It's kinda meant to be heavy handed, and I knew that going in, so it doesn't bother me too much
What are you obsessed with right now?: Probably honestly F*ck, That's Delicious and the guys on the show. I absolutely love their dynamic, and the layer in the show you go, the cuter it gets. You dont have to watch the previous episodes to know what's going on & they're taking it off Hulu in a little over a week, go watch it!! (if you like food/travel shows)
You're supposed to tag 9 people for this so let's gooo
@emo-56 @good-fwiend-in-wome @wizardchicken @twinkenjoyer @phroge777 @reparadordp @temmies-world @ivydoesstuff @aquar-io
sorry not sorry you all get a kiss on the forehead or hand whichever you prefer

Round 4 — Singing/Rapping Competition
Contestant: Joey Kurusu
Division: Kanazawa
“Woohoo! The singing competition! Man, it’s a shame that this pageant is almost over, I honestly had a good time! I mean, aside from getting hounded and oogled at and sometimes even demeaned by a bunch of horny wome-I mean fabulous judges, this was so much fun! Anyways, I’ve been looking forward to this, I’m no musician like Vox or Yorii but I like to think that I have a decent singing voice, I mean I even helped my team win twice during the Shuffle Tournament so obviously there has to be something! But..uh, that’s besides the point, here’s my song by the way! I hope yall enjoy!”
‘Shout For Life’

Lol at the idea of commissioning Pariah to do the writing, (who incidentally also used to be in those dismal leftie fb groups years ago) if Salomé didn’t exist we would have to invent them. I confess I’ve never been completely convinced by either the left-libs freaking out about Lana as conservative chanteuse or the far right seeing in her a harbinger of some kind of youthful populist-reactionary turn. She reminds me of a kind of girl (and guy, although there were way less of them) I remember from high school who wanted to be counterculture, but didn’t do politics and wasn’t really interested in pissing off their parents in any way other than the normal way that all teenagers invariably do just by being teenagers.* Yeah there was a conservative leaning there, and even a bit of racism, but I think it was mostly a mix of aesthetics and cultural inertia- America is after all an ambiently conservative nation. It seems very odd to me that that type of person ever got radicalized enough to start throwing around the race science stuff the way Anna and Dasha did, but then they’re probably hardly representative specimens, and my memories of that type are all from before left-activist rhetoric became so completely inescapable during the Trump era
*A part of me is tempted to say that this is on a slightly higher register the role Paglia fulfills as well (this is the purpose of Camille) I’m sure the context of the original quote is nonsense, but I’ve always thought (I think?) Naomi Wolff was onto something when she described her as Phyllis Schlafy for the nipple-pierced set. There’s something of the sense while you’re actually reading or listening that this is some hot, revolutionary, stuff but then if you actually think about it you’re circuitously being persuaded via decadent aesthetics to have your parents or grandparents sexual/racial etc mores (this is not entirely serious and I know I’m doing injury to her program by describing this way, but I think it’s also the appeal of her aside from the imperious declaration of this and that.)
I think Oscar Wilde invented Salomé. I discovered her more recently, find a leftist phase hard to imagine.
Back in the '90s and early '00s, the religious right had enough power to allow the counterculture to be a broad political anti-church that included secular libertarians (e.g., Kurt Loder and Kennedy on MTV) or libertarian-ish figures like Paglia. As long as you weren't a Bible-thumper, nobody asked you what you thought about taxes. "Fiscally conservative, socially liberal" was like "I listen to everything but rap and country." Things were just politicized in a different way than they are now. I don't think everybody should have to be deeply politically engaged.
The racial thing with Anna and Dasha is because they're children of immigrants. (I'm allowed to say this because I'm one too.) I don't say "white" immigrants, either; I don't even say "non-black" immigrants, because I've graded the composition essays of Somali students here in Minneapolis, and they're also capable of sounding like Steve Sailer. The "critical race theory" idea—I think Baldwin was the first major writer to make the point—of immigrants defining themselves against African Americans is just true; I've seen it again and again.
On the other hand, Paglia was liberal on race, if in an aestheticized way that earned her a rebuke from bell hooks. Whenever she did talk about race, she took a romantic pan-POC (to include Italians and Jews) and anti-WASP stance. She blamed the feminism she despised on an almost racial Anglo-Saxon female frigidity. (There's a reason she became friends with Edward Said.) This seems less absurd when you read an early feminist tract like Olive Schreiner's Woman and Labour and find that it sounds like a Nazi pamphlet, heralding feminism as the rebirth, after industrialism caused a small setback in white women's estate, of the always-independent Teutonic sisterhood, this as against the immemorial slavery of women practiced by the "darker races" (presumably, again, to include Italians and Jews). But there are even strains of this kind of thing in Wollstonecraft and Fuller, too. Some have even wondered why Gilman's famous wallpaper is yellow.
As with Paglia, my own thinking about gender and sexuality ranges beyond the bounds of liberalism in either direction or all directions, while I can't say the same for race. I think it's irresponsible, to say the least, for humanists and artists to indulge anything like biological racism. Gender and sexuality are endlessly fascinating and unsolvable riddles, whereas I've never been able to get intellectually interested in race; masculine and feminine are cosmic forces, but "black" and "white" are the flimsy contrivances of the pirate and the sociologist.

(d0n’/t rebl0/g please; cw for mention of cn/c & “hard” kink/s, in addition to what can be inferred from the ask screencap)
I may be missing information, but I think the thing I’ve heard of abt someone who coined the word being transmisognisti/c had to do w/ consensual kin/k that (from what I understand?) someone was participating in w/ a transfe/m partner on a sideblo/g.
& I can definitely understand finding kink/s that make reference to abus/e or oppressio/n to be triggerin/g, anxiety-inducing, or distasteful. Meanwhile, I don’t think it’s helpful to treat consensual, non-coercive participation in them as wrongdoing, or as necessarily representative of ppl’s ethic/s or politic/s on what’s being referenced. (From what I’ve seen, doing so has often led to shunning + harassing ppl for sth they may do in part to process their own trauma, pressuring them into publicly revealing that trauma, etc. So to me, that seems to have much graver, more directly demonstrable harmful impacts on real people, as compared to things that stay within the realm of fantasy & within consensual contexts. Some studies found that a majority of wome/n participants had rap/e or CN/C fantasies, & at least one study found that was also true of me/n participants and nonbinar/y participants. Anyway, I think there’s various other issues w/ treating those fantasie/s, or engagemen/t w/ them in consensual contexts, as aligning ppl w/ actual rap/e or abus/e)
Again though, I could be missing important information. Your concerns are serious ones; I don’t want to downplay that. Will try to look into this more later.
My impression wasn’t that transandrophobi/a was meant to be understood as symmetrical to transmisogyn/y, but I should look more into how the term was described.
(& the “misandr/y” thing didn’t personally bother me that much, esp. being that the word was changed. I know “misandr/y” became associated w/ men’s opposition to feminis/m—would definitely rather have seen it used a term for talking abt things like how gende/r roles/enforcement/stereotypes harm boys and men within patriarchal society. I still personally might not be especially concerned abt someone using the word misandr/y if they contextualized what they were talking abt as a product of a largely patriarchal society and took issues of misogyn/y seriously—though the associations could still make it harder to take the word seriously—but ymmv. Anyway, I think the word was changed bc of concerns around those associations)

On November 28 2020 we lost our dear dog Gus. He was 14.
Gus was a very valued part of our family, ever since he and his sister Bella were brought home to me and my sisters' very excited screams. He womed his way into our lives very quickly. He had numerous nicknames. He had his own rap. He was compared to walruses, bears, otters, Ewoks.
This was despite being smart enough to raid our food when no one was looking but no one was perfect.
In fact Gus loved food, moreso even than usual for a dog. It ultimately helped do him in - he got diabetes later in his life and health problems piled up from there. We kept him safe and comfortable as long as we possibly could.
He died surrounded by his family, including his sister Bella.
I consider myself kind of a theistic agnostic. I think there is a god or gods, i just am unsure of their precise identity. I don't know who, if anyone, has gotten them right.
But I hope some god is watching over Gus, somehow.

are there any words you can’t pronounce?
I had a stutter as a kid, it’s worn off now, so yeah, a lot. I often mix up the first letters of words, it’s incredibly frustrating. So “have some water” comes out as “have wome sauter”. I get by okay, I routinely rehearse tongue twisters and difficult rap songs to improve my pronunciation and processing errors.
My biggest one is chasseur. It’s a wonderful french dish that I refuse to order in restaurants due to my inability to pronounce it. My brain moves so fast that my mouth can’t keep up, which in turn, leads to these small hurdles.
Not even I’m perfect, shocker.
