Her character keyword is compassion!! Her inspirations all have the common threads of optimism, curiosity and a want for connection, it's a lot more complex in the FFXIV AU due to frequently being put on a battlefield but she's cursed with being an empath right down to her Echo ability lmao

January 9 is Vivi’s birthday \;w;/ The date’s cheeky, it’s when I reached ShB on him ingame. A year ago. JUST A YEAR. No other oc of mine had such an intense development process. I wanted to try writing a disaster, and, well....

Lemme have today as an excuse to ramble about his influences. Of course I didn’t merely lump these together, I kept realizing the likeness as time went on.

The concentration of unhinged blondies and literal idols is past the critical level, take cover, it’s gonna blow.

Anarchy Panty

Because his full name’s Vivien Fucksalot Rell x’D A good number of their tropes match perfectly.

This speech could as well be copypasted into his final battle with Emet:

You and your half-dead face can preach about hymens and demons and other weird words that supposedly mean shit, but that doesn't change the fact that if any of you fuckers get in my way, I'm gonna kick some twisted-ass ass. An edgy fashion icon that I'm still in love with. Brainstorming the visual styles for Vivi, I simply decided to indulge as hard as I can.

Howl

Howl gets his redemption arc, Vivi, uh.... Surprise, the entire ShB part of Fragments is his redemption arc of sorts. But he exists outside ShB as well. He’s not meant to be a goody two shoes. But hey, his drama queen moments are entertaining to watch.

Raha has a lot of Howl in his character too. With Vivi, he’s basically this, except he doesn’t swallow him.. Okay he does but in a different way *kicked*

Arataka Reigen

Because I’m physically incapable of writing a classic hero.

Vivi has a complicated relationship with his career and a pragmatic approach to most things in life. He also prefers words to violence, will fight only if that fails.

When confidence and persuasion carry so hard you don’t really need anything else. Vivi firmly believes in everything he says and does. He doesn’t derive any fucked up joy from being right, but he knows as a fact that he IS right.

Sakuma Ryuichi

Duality my beloved \o/ And dorkiness. Other than that, Ryuichi doesn’t have as much influence on his character, but the visuals?

I mean I literally use this shirt and necklace as an easter egg/homage. Gravitation triggered my queer awakening in the faraway 2006, might as well give it the acknowledgement it deserves.

And, lastly, the he.

What else do you expect from a character tailored for a ship \o/

Short. Sassy. Dorky. Gremlin. All of their direct likeness stems from ARR, while the more subtle parallels and extreme opposite values form later.

If Raha’s eccentric, Vivi takes that just a tad bit further, simply because he’s always been allowed to.

What Raha keeps repressed, buried deep down, Vivi embraces in full. He’s an unruly, effervescent spark of life, he’s meant to be Raha’s “manic pixie dream boy” according to tvtropes, to slowly lure him out of his shell and teach him confidence, the joy of living, and find a way to stop him from killing himself over and over again.

Words of praise and affirmation have no effect on them. Both are competent in some field, but never brag about it. While Raha has a severe imposter syndrome, Vivi knows he’s cool as a fact, which still doesn't mean he loves or values himself as he should. He just acknowledges and uses his status for his own benefit as openly as the world keeps using himself.

Destiny (affectionate) and destiny (derogatory).

Raha’s The Adult (tm) Vivi needs to stay somewhat stable. This’s the reason they don’t quite get along in ARR yet, Raha must go through that century of suffering that, despite all common sense, refines him into something delightful, Vivi must go through HW-SB to realize his priorities in life and frankly get fucked up enough to form a perfect chemistry with Exarch.

Raha has a moral compass that he may adjust at will, Vivi has none at all. How much more questionable would they be if they weren’t cute and charismatic :’D

They’re feisty and competitive towards each other, Raha especially so. Vivi has a red cloth effect on him. Forever wrestling for that imaginary control (yep, in bed too). On the emotional side, it’s forever “you matter, I don’t”. They’re mirrors of each other, reflecting some parts as they are, twisting others in most peculiar ways.

Vivi literally wouldn’t exist without Raha, both ic and ooc. So I daresay Raha has the most influence on his character, at the same time he’s his own guy enough to stay interesting. I’m so proud of him. I’m holding him by the scruff and helplessly shaking him in the air.

@mimble-sparklepudding tagged me to do this again (and I'll try to make one up for Lyrha in a bit!) But here's Nahte's! I ended up pulling it back up and tweaking it bc the original never quite suited me. This one snapshots him a little better and keeps with the meme closer I think :3

Ok this was fun but tough. Nahte was inspired mostly by narrative themes I wanted to explore, not really other media. It's impossible to put such a personal question like, "how do we move on from grief and find reasons to keep hoping after losing our vision for life?" into an aesthetic square!! But that was kind of the main question he was meant to pose as an OC.

I did eventually manage to think of a few characters I really like who probably influenced Nahte in one way or another over the years. Also his first iteration was in Fallout 4 and the choices I made with him in that game determined a LOT of Nahte's core traits. Mahl belongs to @seasaltandcopper and is Nahte's soulmate, roleplaying them together has also had a huge impact on how he overcame so many challenges in MSQ.

Though I didn't specifically have them in mind when I made him, these quotes I think bring out some important story elements

I adore all characters from Discworld, but Granny Weatherwax is so perfect in my eyes, that I can call her the best of the best of all times :) Also, she reminds me so much of my dear grandmother 🥰

This meme is making the rounds again and I decided to make a second one for Mercer. I won’t call it an update since it’s not as if the old one is no longer valid. I just had six more characters that remind me of him or have sparked bits of inspiration in the past.

wol inspo chart

@sealrock was very kind and tagged me in this challenge! i made one of these for vej relatively recently, so i decided to do it for tabur this time! i would say only a few of these are characters i took direct inspiration from for parts of tabur's personality, the others are more ones i look at and i'm like "yeah, you're tabur-coded." let's see, how about i tag... @allyennah @eleventhcircle @e-dragoons @pettyeti @duskmother and @ghastlyfantasy! get the template here if you want to do it!

i'll explain the connections (and include the source material) under the cut!

jing yuan from honkai: star rail: this guy is a bit too recent to be a direct inspiration to tabur's character, BUT oh my god. he perfectly encapsulates the way that tabur approaches problems as the warrior of light. tabur greatly prefers preventing an issue from arising to begin with rather than dealing with 'saving the day'. jing yuan's laidback nature also fits how tabur conducts herself when among friends, though she puts on a much more serious front to the public. dimitri alexandre blaiddyd from fire emblem: three houses: probably one of my biggest inspirations for tabur. they have a very princely, chivalrous nature that hides a lot of inner turmoil and darkness. tabur struggles very heavily with anger issues that they are usually able to keep under control, but when pushed far enough, tabur is very akin to dimitri post-timeskip. cynical, ruthless, pretty bloodthirsty. don't get tabur mad.

margaret nearl from arknights: nearl and tabur are both shining paragons of the paladin archetype (or, at least, tabur tries to be) and were both exiled from their family/homeland. the two of them both share a very strong sense of duty to protect others. nearl's eng va is also my headcanon for tabur's voice when they are fantasia'd to a more feminine appearance.

vash the stampede from trigun: mommy issues. no, in all seriousness, tabur and vash are very similar in the sense that both take the moral lessons taught to them by their mother to heart and use those lessons to build themselves a code of conduct that they try their absolute best to stick to no matter what happens to them. tabur is also incredibly self-sacrificing, much like vash, to the point where most of tabur's scars/injuries are from protecting others. palamedes sextus from the locked tomb series: okay, i've only finished gideon the ninth, but i'm pretty confident putting palamedes on here. tabur's keen intellect and their alchemical/medical knowledge put them in the same field as palamedes, along with their shared soft spot for romance. i think palamedes and tabur would be friends and nobody can convince me otherwise. cecil harvey from final fantasy iv: cecil is mainly on here because tabur and him have the opposite job progression. cecil started as a dark knight and became a paladin, tabur started as a paladin and became a dark knight (though they return to their paladin ways for endwalker).

Left side, top to bottom:

Lexa kom Trikru (The 100): Lexa's entire aesthetic and introduction was what made me get hyped about the show seeing as how she wasn't in the books. She was always interesting to me for how she commanded the respect of her people and was a visionary. She did what she needed to do even if people ended up hating her in the end. It was a trait I knew that Iza needed to have.

Eris, Goddess of Discord (Sinbad): Eris by far was one of my favorite villains and in the beginning even with Iza being hailed the Warrior of Light, she was indeed a villain. Eris is the true, pure representation of malevolence and deviance which after losing her entire family, that's who Iza became. In order to beat the Garleans she had to be just as ruthless, manipulative and intelligent as they were. They bought chaos into her life and she would return the favor BUT despite that she remained a woman of her word.

Evelyn O'Connell (formally Carnahan) (The Mummy): Evie's love of history, knowledge and adventure in general is another one of the bases of who Iza is at her core. She adapts that philosophy of "if she could touch something and see it, then it was real".

Right side, top to bottom:

Avatar Kyoshi (Avatar the Last Airbender): Everyone knows Kyoshi as the "take no shit" Avatar and this is extremely true but she is also a person who was empathic, considerate, trusting and level-headed. She also suffered from low self-esteem and doubted her abilities to be a good avatar. To loved ones, she showed those soft traits. To the world, she is the direct, fierce and assertive woman we know and has always been an idol of mine. It would have been easy to pack on only good traits to the making of Iza but I wanted her to have hidden gems as well that only the most determined of people would find.

Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto): The entire story of Naruto from beginning to end is emotional and so inspiring. To be doubted and feared to loved and respected is something he earned through years of having one goal and dream. In many ways, Naruto and Iza are truly one and the same in that respect except the talking. Iza would much rather just beat someone's ass.

Lynn Wiles (Pulse): Lynn's personality of seeing life for what it is and having the ability to connect with everyone she meets while while being incredibly cheesy is who Iza was and who I hope to make her once again. It's one of the many things that has to be drawn out by the right people.
