Posting here so I can drop names. In response to anons on WGS asking for names of the older women who prey on younger guys, here they are: Raevein, Ravenclair, and Moonandre. Raevein got involved with a 15yo and a 17yo at the same time when she was 25 in 2014. OOC sexting and phone sex over Skype happened with at least one of them. She also slept with someone who was barely 18 IRL that summer. All three of these guys got emotionally invested in her, and she "cheated" on all of them with each other across multiple alts, led them on, strung them along, and eventually dropped them. When they found other partners, she mistreated them and started spreading rumors about their partners. During WoD, she was on WrA-A, but to my knowledge, she didn't get involved with anyone underage again. She has a list of other issues, but they're not relevant to this subject. Ravenclair (AKA Faithe/Shaw/Scarletavery) has been involved with multiple young male players, all more than half her age. At least one of them (to my knowledge) was under 18 in 2014. She is 50+ now. AFAIK, she's off the game currently but she has made reappearances off and on as far back as 2012. Last activity I know of her was in 2019 during an uptick in Old Town RP. She got involved with two male players under the age of 25. The first she managed to deeply upset with how she behaved when he wouldn't reciprocate her character's advances or ERP with her. Less than a month later, she moved in on the second, about 20, on her human mage. She actually may be the one another anon was talking about; when he was 16, she basically groomed and abused him. His description of her behavior fits Ravenclair's MO to a tee, and she did marry someone her son's age. Aside from being wildly inappropriate, she gets hysterical when she feels she's been wronged. She has other toons, one is a male nelf with a name that starts with "Myth-", but as common as that is, I can't confirm which one would be her. I've never seen her on said toon, but she used to talk about him frequently enough.

Moonandre, or more commonly known as Xariselli of Apostasy Accord, has been involved with younger male players as well. She'd be about 50 now, too, and is/was married. To my knowledge, at least one of those she was involved with was barely 18, though considering the length of their involvement together, it probably started when he was underage. Sexting and phone sex over Skype occurred, according to him. She also had a void elf with a Z name, and got involved with at least two other guys more than half her age between 2017 and 2020.

To my knowledge, all three of these women haven't been on since before DF, but they all have tendencies to resurface. They've all been at the center of one drama or another and it almost always has to do with who they're ERPing with. They tend to keep other female players at arm's length OOCly and surround themselves with male players, all of them always much younger.

I guarantee if you know someone who has been on MG for 10+ years, they know at least one (if not all) of these women.

"nobody wants cata/wod classic" well meet me.

i think a lot of people actually want mop classic. but it's certainly not "classic" anymore, it's just a past expansion people want to play again because it was good. same with legion.

i particularly am looking forward to cata classic because i am a cata baby. i started playing in march 2012, but my parents only got me the latest expansion in september 2013 (at the time they still sold the second to last expansion separately, AND battle chest), so i could never reach max level during cataclysm and i feel like i missed out on cata and it's still this mystical game to me that i want to explore. that feeling never went away for me with cata because i never actually played it.

as for wod, i was never a group player, i didn't actually play any pve in wod, only some pvp and not much. i mostly did quests and old content, such as collecting mounts. i believe it was in wod when i got both the tbc fire phoenix and invincible (that i'll have to farm for again whem mop comes around...). the expansions also always used to release near my birthday at the time and i remember being so hyped for wod and the levelling experience is still unmatched... i played alliance and the dreamy blue theme of pre outlands shadowmoon valley never left my memory. i remember struggling to tell whether it was night or day on that map. i remember the server queue and being glad when i finally got my spot after coming home from school after having to give up my spot the night before to go to sleep, and there was still a queue the next day. launch week wod memories are some of my best by far.

and casual wise, wod wasn't a bad expansion by any means. i just don't see the point of raids or very highly ranked pvp. i enjoy challenging content sometimes, but those numbers for me don't necessarily mean challenge.

so yeah... meet me, i want (not only cata classic, but) wod classic.

soooo I’m going to do another radio show with my friend and it’ll be about Linux and open source stuff viewed through a feminist lens. Because I fully believe that since our electronic devices play such a hugely important role in our lives now, not being at least a little bit tech savvy can result in becoming very dependent on another’s goodwill.

Much like with money and financial independence, technological independence is in my opinion still not common practice for women (as defined by gender-as-a-hierarchy), and much like financial violence is a form of domestic violence, so too can technology be used to make emotional violence hit much harder (think cyberstalking).

Anyway we’ve got two hours to chat about this on Saturday and I would love to have a soundtrack that supports that! So please, if you have ideas and a minute to spare:

the entity is essentially the vatican's secret military force. they collaborated with other secret services in like, 2001, and realised "holy shit vampire exist?" before anyone else did. they're responsible for the purge of london in lore, which is why they were important to the theory. in recent nights they did disrupt the 2nd convention of prague, which, lol cammies eat shit

SPEAKING of cammies, the camarila is like, your main faction of vampires. theyre traditionally the biggest and the strongest, and definitely the most central and organised group. theyre pretty much awful, and responsible for the masquerade and enforcing it. the camarila are the reason pyotr didn't want to start a blood hunt, for instance. they like to pretend they're a lot older than they are, so the camarila mirrors medieval vampire society, but it's only been around for as long as the first inquisition. that isn't long, in vampire terms. it's lead by the inner circle, which we know nothing about, which is usually just an excuse for storytellers to flesh them out in sessions (because yes, wod/vtm is first and foremost a tabletop game). the prince we keep hearing about is the leader of the local area, and she most likely reports to someone higher up the literal food chain. diablerie is one of their biggest sins as well, lmao

when they talk about nosferatu and tremere and all that, they're referring to vampire bloodlines. the bloodline a vampire is depends on who sired them, essentially, so the most popular bloodlines are the camarila sponsored ones. this changes, though, like lasombra and banu haqim joined the camarila in like 2012 and the gangrel left in '99. the brujah left at the same time the lasombra and banu joined, but since the series takes place in 2001 none of that is really relevant. the main bloodlines in 2001 were ventrue, toreador, tremere (kevin), nosferatu (pyotr), gangrel (apeboy), malkavian, and brujah (shitbeard) if that gives you any idea about them

the first vampire is caine, like the biblical caine. he was cursed by god with vampirism and the world has been worse ever since. caines blood, or vitae, is what makes a vampire a vampire. the thickness of that blood is how removed a vampire is from caine, so when a vampire commits diablerie they make their blood more condensed like someone of a higher generation, making them more powerful. vampires become more powerful over time anyways, so vampires dont really need to be born a high generation. generations are also the number of steps removed from caine, so his children are generation 2 and the antediluvians are generation 3

speaking of antediluvians, they're the originators of each clan of vampires- think of them like more homicidal primarchs, if you watched tts. the relationship every bloodline has to its antediluvian is very very strained, because the antediluvians generally want to eat and/or inflict some horrible fate on their children

for example, the malkavian antediluvian (malkav) has literally become a network of madness inside the mind of every malkavian and intends to use them as a body to puppeteer whilst his body slumbers in jerusalem, for one example

It's still such a jarring difference in how his character is handled, with it just being straight up absent in BfA only to return as a completely different character. Like I said in my other posts, I don't think Metzen is personally responsible for all writing, good or bad, just WoD and Legion wrote a character closer to the books, hell even the Warcraft (2016) movie did, than SL and DF where he can just be replaced by any NPC and it wouldn't impact him or the story much. Maybe there was someone else on the WoD and Legion team that liked Khadgar and now no longer writes for him. There was no need to even bring him back in Dragonflight if he was going to die in TWW anyway, right at the start, like what was the point of setting him up with the Kalecgos and Iridikron stories at all?

Also surprised that Metzen wasn't more involved in WoD since he solely takes the blame for WoD and also I know he loves his orcs. I know he was already off the team for Legion, but I thought he was more on WoD because if WoD came out in 2014, it would've been in development from 2012 if not earlier.

I feel bad I shit on Metzen because Metzen is the reason we got Khadgar in the first place, he brought him back in Warlords of Draenor and probably influenced the Legion writing and development too before leaving. And it was Danuser's team who wrote Khadgar's character into the "I am old and ready to die" trope which during Metzen's time at Blizzard, wasn't set up or hinted at all. I don't think Metzen is solely responsible for writing Khadgar if at all, but there is a stark difference in how Khadgar is written between WoD and Legion vs. Shadowlands, Dragonflight and the little in TWW.

Oh a new friend!

So I’m relatively new to RP in general. Most of the people I meet on here have been writing fanfics since AOL chatrooms were a thing and played DnD in highschool. I’ve only been doing it regularly for like... 5ish years? Though there was a brief period in like... 2011? 2012? When I got sucked into SWTOR and I did a little RP with a WoW friend there and our guild. That was my first ever time RPing.

It was an old raiding friend who got me into it back then. She was a bigger nerd than I was and convinced me to check out SWTOR. At the time it was a bit of a content lull in WoW and I had a lot of free time so I said fuck it. It was all forum RP and super casual. the SWTOR was still a raiding guild. Just RP’d on their website forums on the side.

Years passed after TOR died down and I was back into raiding in WoW. We since lost contact but before that happened she convinced me to make a toon on Wyrmrest Accord so we could RP “one day.”

After I took an (involuntary) break from WoW and came back in late WoD I didn’t have the same connection with my old raiding guild. Lots of new people and I felt like a bit of an outcast. So honestly I just went “fuck it, let’s see what RP on WoW is all about” and decided to start playing this warlocky boii. Joined a guild and the rest is history.

Who else? My love for Fusedmarc has become a BorisBubbles.tumblr calling card and come on, there’s no way I wouldn’t drag them this high. Two years later and I still cackle thoughout this song with the exact same vigor as I did two years back. 🤭 Now, I do understand that “Rain of revolution” is one of the worst 10 songs in this decade and... well, yeah, (yeah, yeahyeah NRG yeah yeah yeeeeaaah) that’s the entire point. If we lived in the universe where ESC entries can be compared to motion pictures, in which “Waterloo” is Citizen Kane and “A matter of time” is fucking Titanic, then “Rain of revolution” is The Room, for Viktorija and Denis posses the exact same endearing insanity, inscrutability and genius as Tommy Wiseau.  And honestly, this song should be shown in movie theatres because it turned inteptitude into an artform. Reminder that fusedmarc were the only 2017 act to refuse PBC:UA’s offer for stand-in rehearsals because they were afraid Ukraine would fail at getting their ~vision across~ 😂😍

54. Tom Dice - “Me and my guitar” Belgium 2010

I’ll be honest: As a Belgian, Tom Dice has a lot of emotional value for me. The year was 2010: Belgium hadn’t qualified for a final for six straight contests, sending failure after failure. Neither VRT had, until that point, shown any idea behind what they were doing, consistently picking the wrong songs during the national selections. RTBF meanwhile, didn’t even try, sending novelty acts they knew would never qualify. So, imagine being Belgian and seeing Tom get announced, fedora perched askew on his head, with a tepid guitar ballad and you’re like “oh MORE of the same, well bye 😬", except SURPRISE Tom is naturally charismatic and has a great voice and turns his by all standards generic song into an experience. 

It’s the Todevska principle: Tom OUTSOLD. Is he the best entrant? No. Like many ESC alumni he entered the contest with his least good song. Is he the most exciting entrant? Far from it.

52. Ott Lepland - “Kuula” Estonia 2012

There are two reasons why “Kuula” ranks this high and neither is Estonia bias :o

The first is, obviously, the context. I’ve spoken widely about how terrible Baku2012 sounded as a whole, and how disappointment everything was. Well, “Kuula” was not only acoustically sound, it is actually the ONLY song that I was pleasantly surprised me. I had no opinion whatsoever going into Baku and he roses to my #3 of the year.

Which brings me to the second reason why “Kuula” ranks this highly. It is just... really fucking good, lol?

With powerballads such as these it’s REALLY important to suck the listener/viewer in and the combination of Ott’s great voice, adorable personality, the magical language that is Estonian (which also, conveniently, allows me forget “Kuula” has Deep Meaning and Touching Lyrics 🤗), and a great organic build up captivate me immensely. Even though songs like “Kuula” are far from what I normally love, it never fails to sustain me, proving tho every great rule they’re always a greater exception. 🤗

51. Anouk - “Birds” the Netherlands 2013

~She slayed it from the outside~

Oh my god Anouk was such a rollercoaster. From my end, I was OBSESSED with Anouk from the second she was announced (as the first participant of 2013!!!) because hell yeah I LOVED “Nobody’s wife” and “Girl” and this expected ~High Voltage Rock OWNAGE~

What we got instead was... something just as great, if completely different. “Birds” may not have been an in-your-face rock song, but it never-the-less was a beautiful, mesmerising, unpretentious avant garde ballad. “If being myself is what I do wrong, then I would rather not be right” sticks out as an absolutely brilliant line that I often use in my daily writing. 😍 I LOVE how Anouk performs btw, on the satellite stage, in a sea of f(l)ags:

While also delivering distinctly Dutch diction. 😍 Paraphrasing:

“Burds follin daun de roeftops, aut of de skai laik reendraups, no eir, no praad.” 

Like ^ pronounced that in dutch and you literally have Anouk’s diction nailed. 😍

“Birds” was basically the “Me and my guitar” of the Netherlands, but there’s also the added bonus of  Anouk herself. You see, in contrast to her song’s ethereal demeanor, Anouk is KNOWN to be a huuuuuge abrasive confrontal bitch with zero filter 😍 and fragments of her diva personality definitely oozed into Malmö as well, from nonchalantly recording a gritty webcam vid for official channel’s preview vid (😍) to  flippantly pulling a hood over her face each time a journalist wanted to interview her. It ended, how else, with Anouk writing “Walk along” for Trijntje, and then cussing her out for being frumpy / talentless / sucking at life when she NQ’d. When Trijntje tried pinning them blame Anouk for writing her a bad song on purpose (lmfao), Anouk retaliated by stealing Trijnje’s coach seat on The Voice NL. PETTY QUEEN <3 We truly aren’t worthy of this irl Cersei Lannister. 😍

Also um, I just realized I ranked those two on opposide ends of the Dutch chart:

The 2010s marked wonderful renaissance for the Netherlands. I’m never ~OBSESSED~ with their entries, but they are a very solid Eurovision country, reliably delivering good music. I think they’re also the country that has the lowest amount of godawful entries on average (literally 2. Fuck you, “Without you” and “Amsterdam”.). If anyone deserved to win based on track record alone it was definitely them.

"Legion 8" is a Hero WOD commemorating the lives of the 8 men (Terry, Blake, Emerson, Ryan, Coon, Doc, Caleb, Jimmy) - the soldiers of Company B, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigage Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (Bravo Company, 1-8) - who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 8, 2007. "Legion 8" originated in July, 2012 at Premier CrossFit @premiercrossfit (Tyler, TX, USA), primarily initiated by a man named Jeff Morris. Jeff shared his own story that led to the birth of Legion 8: The story of a strong brotherhood, a tight-knit group of brave men who trained together, fought together, and who deployed twice together. And then the heartbreaking story of each of the men who died serving in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007 and how there’s nothing harder than losing friends and brothers and then having to look in the eyes of those left and say, "We have a job to finish here. Welcome to a series of MMN blogs where I’ll be looking at where we, Onyx Path, are with some of our methods of getting our projects out to you all. Seems to make sense here at the start of 2019.

Today, the topic is Kickstarters.

A little backstory:

Onyx Path ran our first Kickstarter for the V20 Companion in early 2012, the same year as we started publishing. Crowdfunding was a wild and wooly place back then, and KS was starting to be the “brand name” for the process.

I’d watched a few of our friends run campaigns, both successful and failed, and knew going into it that neither myself, who was running the whole thing, nor Justin, who was the developer of the book and as interested as I was in this new method of financing a project, really knew how it would turn out.

When I had put together Onyx Path as a publishing business, I hadn’t considered crowd-funding, but Justin and I had heard enough from our Vampire community clamoring for the V20 Companion to be a matching Deluxe book to V20 to know that we should figure out how to do it in a Deluxe format. Kickstarter seemed a way to get the needed upfront money for the Deluxe treatment.

Otherwise, the V20 Companion would have been available as PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG only. We just didn’t have the cash to pay the printer what they needed upfront to purchase all the Deluxe cover material, create embossing stamps, all that.

So, that’s how it started, this wild and tumultuous affair with Kickstarter that we’ve had for seven years and 33 Kickstarter campaigns.

Here’s where we are now:

I told you all that so I could tell you this. We started with a very simple need – to afford a deluxe cover – and every single KS we did taught us more and more about how to run a KS.

If you joined us along the way, there may have been a method we used that turned you off, or another that you thought was awesome. From our point of view, we were learning how to do it well. Stretch Goals, Rewards, Add-ons, voting for sections in the books, when to run it, how much text to have finished and how much to share. The list goes on of the elements we have tried to add with some degree of success or another.

Now, this year, our KSs mostly have a few elements in common, like we try and keep the Reward Tiers to a smallish number, we go live only after we have all the text we need finished, and we reveal that text in chunks during the Kickstarter.

Getting Projects Into Stores:

Unlike when we started, we’re now doing most of our KSs with the stated goal of paying for a traditional print run that covers not just the backers’ copies but also to print an amount that will go into stores via our sales partners at Studio2 and IPR (who are they? look below in the Blurbs! section).

We might still do some Deluxes along the way, don’t worry, or some other special projects, but we’re exploring this trad printing option right now.

This greatly increases our retail options, which is a good thing as it’s another way for folks to get our games, and adds to the value of the Retailer Reward Tiers that have been a part of our KSs since the first couple of them.

Now Retailers can choose to wait and order the projects when they are made available through distribution channels, or they can opt in for pledging to the Retailer Reward Tier and get the copies earlier, with some bonus Screens and the Stretch Goal rewards they can sell or give away, and if they have polled their customers to get confirmed sales – those are books they don’t need to worry about selling off their shelves.

Getting Projects Out In a Timely Manner:

There’s no question about it, we prioritized everything else over hitting the Kickstarter estimates. This wasn’t because we didn’t care about them, but because we cared more about the quality of the projects we were creating.

And, in fact, still do.

BUT, we’ve leveraged our experience and are making sure that our Kickstarter projects have completed text before we go live with the KS now, which eliminates a huge percentage of our timeliness issues while still allowing our creators the time they need to insure high quality writing and rules.

That means that we have a bit less flexibility in the sorts of Rewards and Stretch Goals that add to the KS’d project itself, but its a trade-off that is working out pretty well. And we still have Stretch Goals that build additional and Companion books, so those extra sections are still being created.

Since we’ve put the “No KS without complete text” rule into effect, we’ve delivered Monarchies of Mau, Cavaliers of Mars, and Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition earlier than estimated, and things still look great for Fetch Quest and Dragon-Blooded. To name a couple close to shipping.

Now no doubt, we’re still popping out projects that had troubled histories from before that methodology went into effect, so it did take us a while to get to this stage, but we’re here now and it’s working great.

Getting Projects to Backers (Kickstarter Shipping):

This is an ugly topic, I’m afraid. Don’t let the kids see it.

The biggest negative aspect of a Kickstarter campaign, in terms of costs and time spent, is shipping the rewards out. Shipping costs are insane if you are shipping from the US to anywhere outside the US. We look for working partnerships with shippers around the world to offset some of those prices, and sometimes it works.

We have seen shipping costs on some projects as high as $50 an average to Canada, $64 on average to the EU, and $70 as a rest of the world average. Then there are customs fees on top of that. So, like I say, we keep looking for alternatives.

Plus, now we hear that USPS, who is often used as the middle-man by the big-name shippers, is raising their rates, so we’ll need to deal with that.

We also have been through another round of getting quotes from fulfillment shippers, and trying to find ones that can be relied on and stay reliable (and that we can afford) has been, and may always be, an ongoing process.

Sorry, I know that just reading about these issues is a drag, but they are a very real challenge that we work on with each KS. We’ve tried the “tack the shipping price on after the KS” method, and that was received…poorly by the backers.

We also can’t sidestep the whole thing and “eat the costs” or even a decent bite of them. We just aren’t Amazon, for good or ill, and our volume of ship-out packages is not even close to being in the zone where a company can do that.

So, we keep on baking in the shipping costs as best as we can accurately estimate them with our fulfillment partners, and at least our backers can look at that and what they see is what they get.

Getting Projects Kickstarted:

This is kind of a catch-all topic. First, there’s the question of which projects we are KSing. What’s the criteria? Well, new game line core books, to start. We want those in stores, and we want folks to find out about them, and Kickstarter does both of those things for us.

There are also the Deluxe Exalted “fatsplat” books, which we look at as a part of a series, the core CofD 2nd Edition books, and select WoD supplements. Doing the V5 Chicago By Night Kickstarter, for example, gave us that visibility I mentioned above, as well as a chance to let backers, and by extension the larger WoD community, a chance to see where we would be going with the text.

Basically, do we think the project would benefit more from being KS’d than not, and not all would.

Next in this topic, we have the way our KSs are now run thanks to our “Kickstarter Concierge” James Bell, who sets up all our KSs now, makes sure that they are run as we’ve agreed – and fun for our backers is a HUGE part of that – and then creates and runs the BackerKit back-end site after the KS is over.

Having a dedicated Kickstarter runner has made a huge difference in customer service, and as my list of Kickstarters that I ran keeps shrinking, I am so glad that I could pass on the responsibilities of handling our KSs to James.

I mentioned that James is also running our post-Kickstarter BackerKit sites, and BK has also been a huge help in the handling of our KSs. We now use them for every KS; they are just set up to make it so much easier to track all the rewards folks can pledge for and Add-on, and for us to get out to backers. More accurate for the backers, and faster for us: win/win.

Finally, we’re trying a new thing this coming year, as even with James, we’re hard-pressed to run all the Kickstarter campaigns we’d like to – that we think would be good for the projects we’re making.

Our friends and Handiwork Games will be creating the Scarred Lands 5e Creature Collection and then running its Kickstarter on a new Onyx Path Publishing Kickstarter account. If this works out, we’ll have more flexibility on which KSs happen when, and we’ll look at how things go and maybe we’ll have more of our projects KS’d by other folks.

Because even if we think we’ve got a really great system for our Kickstarters now, we still keep looking for ways to make them better. For us, for our community of backers, and for our:

Don’t be a dick. Not everyone gets along, not everyone always has spoons. I’ve been on tumblr since 2012, I’ve seen every shade and flavor of drama under the sun and I don’t have time for it.

General RP rules apply. Don’t godmode, powerplay, etc etc. If you think something would be cool and it infringes on who plays what character, talk to me OOC.

No kiddos. This is an 18+ only zone. I write, draw, and take screens of smut and other adult material. I tag things simply with [trigger] tw; so you should be able to blacklist the word itself.

No OC-selective blogs. I am not your exception.

This blog is for fantasy only. You might see the occasional positivity post, but you won’t see drama, real-life politics, or guilt tripping. Call-out culture is an auto block.

Dark themes are present on the blog, built into every character’s backstory and present. I encourage you to curate your space; I will not be offended if you unfollow or block me. That said, since softblocks are indistinguishable from tumblr glitches, I may re-follow you without realizing.

I don’t softblock, I will either unfollow or hardblock. I also aggressively curate my space with preemptive blocks. I’d rather have a small, drama-free dash than deal with petty bullshit.

I view canon as a loose guideline rather than absolute fact - this reflects heavily within Dove’s lore, with Au Ra being descended from dragons native to Etheryis.

I’m always game for shipping - including non-romantic shipping. That said, be aware Grim and Phobos are quoiromantic, and will not act differently between a close friendship and a romantic relationship.
