“In skate photography, there’s often an expectation of what a picture will look like before it’s even taken – a certain formula. And it’s very influenced by the history of skateboarding and the way we perceive it. To tell the story of the trick, where the skater comes from, the spots, and so on. The difference here is that skate photography becomes more of a craft and less a way of expression – but if those two can come together, it can become something more, which is what I strive for.” That’s what Sarah Meurle says in our issue 50 about skate photography and she knows, cause she’s a pro.
