Yesterday I just got to reading Albert's unhappy ending (via unlocking it) and-

No one told me that Liz just freaking DIES just like that?? Wtf like doesn't she have her Goddess of Time powers to go back in time with? Why wasn't that even in the mix? Unless that was what that "light" was at the very end of the ending, hopefully. And why doesn't she just cast her magic to save Albert instead of sacrificing herself by caught up in the attack like that? 🤦‍♀️

I thought they weren't going to make her die in any of the endings except for during a couple routes where she does actually get brought back. Yikes I'm even more glad Albert's route isn't canon now.

Wizardess Heart: Personal thoughts about seasons and routes Part 2

(This post contains a bit of spoilers.)

Starting from S6 basically 90% of the routes are in consecutive order, but the new romance starts every route. So basically, all the other data is maintained and only the romance data is reset every route.

It's pretty sad that the MC and LI swear eternal love in some route, and then the moment you start the next route, they remember everything except for their love.

The stories focus on the "plot" more compared to earlier seasons and that's why the romance kinda lacks compared to those seasons.

S6 is the best season in prefect mc routes. Good chemistry overall, well balanced romance, and interesting plot.

Zeus? Cute relationship with good chemistry. Interesting story. Well written. (Let's forget about his betrayal for now)

Klaus2 is ummm actually this route is the least memorable route in S6... and his arrogance never goes anywhere but at least he was less bossier than S2

Hiro... his route is the best imo. Not only the story included interesting dynamics, but I honestly think mc and Hiro made the most well-balanced, healthy romance with nice chemistry. Smooth development from comrades to couple and they really care for each other a lot. And sweet as ever.

Imo S7 is kinda more like good friends route

I like Alfonse as a character but don't really like his route... mostly because Klaus just gets in the way all the time with that (spoiler)stupid fake dating thing

Caesar the piggy boy... idk if mc really did love him even in his own route. He likes her from the very beginning, ok that's nice, but after finishing the route it was like... his confession just made her more generous to him? His love for mc just worked as some kind of excuse for what happens afterwards about him. The most memorable character was Mischa and the most memorable scene was the eating battle.

Lucious is who I mentioned a lot in previous posts, I would just say he should have been with Claudia.

I think no one in s7 had real romance with mc, but still Alfonse and Lucious were very good friends in their routes whereas Caesar was... relationship itself went nowhere

Starting from S8 either MC or LI is already smitten to their partner from the very beginning... otherwise it's just a very rushed shallow romance

Hugo is enemy to lover, better version of Leon but it just seems he has zero chemistry with mc.

Hisoka idk why mc brought a random merchant guy to the academy and seemed she was just smitten with this guy from the start somehow? And she followed him around like a puppy.

Willem another enemy to lover. But it just seemed they added a drama of (spoiler)"they actually met in the past"+ "miracle tears to save the guy" nothing more memorable than that.

I think the "plot" they focused on started to lose track from about S9? I mean I still dunno why that season exists... the phantom thief appeared out of nowhere and tower of memories stuff has nothing to do with dragonkins or future plot. Kinda useless season.

In Nox and Rex routes, the devs did it really dirty. At least in the other routes, mc starts with no interest in the other guy and no other guy is romantically interested in her(I mean after s6) but these two routes create a very... annoying love triangle. Plus in Rex route, this girl switches to another guy just because (spoiler)she's disappointed with Nox's identity

I don't think either Nox or Rex made a proper healthy relationship with mc. Both were just smitten with her at first sight and kinda forcing their feelings for her?

Gray is kinda creepy considering he basically knew everything about her from the start. Like he was stalking her for her whole life...

S10 and S11 at least make sense but still romance is mostly nowhere

What I don't like about s10 and s11 is that there're some fake routes kinda made for... surprise for canon routes

Since s6 there were a lot of routes that indicated there was still something left unsolved(which will be in another route), but at least the issue on that route was solved properly. But in those fake routes nothing was solved properly, and makes me um... feel what everything happened there just went to waste? Idk

Those routes end like "I thought so but..." that sounds so damn ominous and incomplete (Yes you Lars, and you Florin too)

And then there's a guy who's got real hot looks but got nothing in his route (Looking at you Mr Auburne)

At least the canon routes, which are the last routes of each season, are written fine I think.

Clive. Maybe a controversial one, but mc shares rather dark side of herself in front of him unlike when she's with the other guys and I think that's a uncommon yet nice way to build relationship. Nidhogg was very cute too.

Light. Him and mc sharing a lot of time in the same place made a natural growth of their bond. I liked it.

Last of all, it's a shame that Felix and Vain and Viggo never got their routes... I mean look at their beautiful faces how could those faces never got a chance to stand as a proper LI daaaaang

Tales of Symphonia AU

This is an au I've been toying around with for a long time. Tales of Symphonia was one of my favorite games growing up, so I thought it would be fun to draw the Wizardess Heart characters as those characters.

To start us off, we have Vain Peers as the mysterious mercenary, Kratos Aurion!

With this AU, my plan is to use the outfits of the Tales of Symphonia characters, but with some elements of the WH characters (mainly colors).

Further au related rambling under the cut. Spoilers for Tales of Symphonia abound.

Vain is much more like Yuan in personality, but I cast him and Hugo (who will be Lloyd, naturally) as a matching set. I see related characters, I cast the Peers brothers.

I'm not sure if Vain and Hugo will be father and son like in Tales of Symphonia or if I'll keep them as brothers.

Really, I love Zeus, Hiro and Lucious but seeing them getting way more screen time while Alfonse and Caesar are being abandoned so much is getting so annoying. They deserve so much better and I want to see them more!

And Joel too! If he is a Deputy Prefect, why can't he join as well??

Week of Otome, Day 4: Favorite and Least Favorite Route Thus Far

A favorite character is one thing, but a favorite route? Not necessarily one in the same (though it usually does help).

And, as you can see from my butts touched list, I’ve played a lot of different routes.

But who, thus far, has given me the most enjoyable experience, story-wise? Which route had all the right story beats, made me feel all the right emotions, and was a gem of it’s entire game?

Okita’s route, from Hakuoki.

I’m three for three on Hakuoki now. Does this mean Hakuoki is my not so secret favorite otome?

Technically speaking, my first route when I started playing the game on my own was Sano’s route, but before that, I watched the majority of Fleeting Blossom via Youtube. 

Before I switched over to non-voiced playthroughs however, my first experience with Hakuoki ever was @rainydayletsplay playing the game blind.

I still have a lot of fond memories of that particular playthrough, experiencing Hakuoki for the first time, learning about the characters and their nuances, learning about their world and the history surrounding them, just the entire experience was eye opening and I was hooked on the franchise ever since.

But, back to Okita. 

He’s got this easy charm about him, despite him being kind of an asshole. He lightly jokes about death and killing people, he sticks his nose in other people’s business when he probably shouldn’t, he will mercilessly tease you if can find something to tease you about, you wouldn’t think he would be as likeable of a character as he actually is. 

And then, he gets sick. Seriously sick. Tuberculosis, to be more specific.

Okita absolutely hates being sick. He hates feeling and being useless, he refuses to show himself as weak to anyone, even the ones he especially cares about, like Kondou. Suddenly, he feels his life’s worth is in the toilet because he’s too weak to fight with his comrades. As a warrior, he was supposed to live and die by the sword, there was no alternative for him. Even drinking the Water of Life only prolonged his life and strength so long, as being a Fury still drained him and now needing blood on top of that to keep himself sane.

Okita’s route was a passionate whirlwind start to finish. He hit all my favorite story beats, the character progression throughout was fantastic, both for him and Chizuru, Okita is my second favorite Hakuoki outside of Saito because of all of this.

Okita just had an awesome and amazing route.

Speaking of cheeky assholes, let’s talk about one that pissed me off so much that I physically had to put the game down for months, it pissed me off that much.

Similar to Okita above, Luca was the standard bad boy of Wizardess Heart. He skipped class, he mercilessly teased his classmates when he found something to tease about them, he pushed boundaries and tempers where he probably shouldn’t have, pretty standard fare for a character of his type.

What I didn’t especially care for was the lack of consequences for his actions, both in and outside of his route. For both of Yukiya’s and Elias’s respective routes, Luca was almost outright antagonistic in both of them (a fist fight with Yukiya in his route, being the one to manipulate Professor Merkulova into helping his goals in Elias’s route), both times getting off with minimum punishment (hell, he breaks out of detention in Elias’s route just to tell Elias he’s coming for the MC should they ever have a wizard duel for her heart, or something).

MC should have just told him to go away, she can make her own decisions in love, and that he should leave her alone instead of just pouty-facing at him.

If only. IF ONLY.

On his respective route, though..... ugh.  

He still continually skips class despite having a ‘Buddy’ now that depends on him so that she can get into this school, he laughs at her when she fails miserably in performing magic for class, he makes flirty passes at her, he uses her and basically rats out her ability to hear the song coming from the Tower of Sorrow to Professor Merkulova for his own gains...

I mean, if Luca had had more severe consequences for his actions, or even really grew and learned from his mistakes, he might have been a more likeable character, but as it stands, I don’t like Luca or his route. He’s a talented wizard that hasn’t really learned how to respect others, both authority figures and his peers, and it’s frustrating that it continues to be like that.

I'm curious about something regarding Caesar...

The first time we see him, when he introduces himself to Liz during the Prefects' party in the auditorium, in Zeus's route, he tells her that the reason they haven't met before is because he had been studying in Hinomoto for 3 years and he has come back to the academy only recently..

And even in his character biography, Alfonse says that Caesar has studied in Hinomoto.

But... I saw a scene of Hisoka's route on YouTube (I haven't actually been able to read any route after Caesar's yet) when the whole team is travelling to Hinomoto and Caesar is excited because he says he has never been to Hinomoto before?? Considering his background and how he truly entered the academy as you discover in his own route, was the whole "I studied in Hinomoto" thing another lie he told everyone, something he came up with to use as a cover? Or is this just an error in writing? I'm kind of curious... I like Caesar, but ever since I read his route, there are some things he says (especially in other routes) that don't sound quite right to me and I don't really know if I should believe him or not (like for example, in Zeus's normal ending, he tells Liz that he failed the Prefect trial three times before becoming one himself. And I don't think that's true, considering that in his route he admits he cheated to enter the academy and to become a Prefect). What do you think? Is this ever explained somewhere else?

And another thing, in the routes that follow Caesar's, do they ever mention how/if he got rid of his curse? Since the only way to lift the curse was a kiss of true love and the following characters' routes obviously imply that he and Liz never got together and she didn't fall in love with him but she's dating someone else?
