Different Soulmates
Hiya guys! So, i was actually going to wait and post this one after a couple of other fics, but I decided to go ahead and post this one first since it gives some info about the Soulmate AU 😆! I hope you all enjoy~!
Word Count: 1,215
Warnings: Tattoos and mentions of Scars

“ Hey Yuno, wanna race up that hill?” Asta asked with a grin, and he watched his best friend turn towards him with a raised brow.
“ Why would I want to do that?” He asked, and Asta scoffed.
“ Because it’s fun, and it’s also a form of training!” He explained with a bright smile.
Yuno stared at his friend for a moment.
“ No thanks.”
Asta groaned loudly.
“ Aw c’mon Yuno, just a short race up that hill!”
Yuno just shook his head.
“ No thanks.” He repeated before he began to turn away.
“ What? Is the great Vice Captain of the Golden Dawn scared he’s gonna lose?” Asta asked as he crossed his arms.
Yuno stopped in his tracks at his words; it was bait. Asta was baiting him, they both knew it, and Yuno knew he most certainly shouldn’t take it.
But he did.
Without saying a word Yuno quickly ran past Asta and began to run up the hill.
“ Huh? Hey, that’s cheating!” He shouted before quickly running after Yuno.
“ Now who’s worried they’re going to lose?” Yuno threw over his shoulder with a confident smirk on his face.
Asta let out a loud yell and began to run faster up the hill.
“ I won’t lose!”
Yuno couldn’t help but chuckle as his friend caught up to him and began to surpass him.
“ And neither will I!”
The two went back and forth as they ran further and further up the hill, with Asta sometimes pulling ahead, and Yuno pulling ahead at other times.
But when the pair reached the top, neither Asta, nor Yuno, won; it was a tie.
The two young men flopped down onto the grassy hill and stared up at the cloud filled sky.
When was the last time the two of them were able to hang out like this? Asta wondered as he watched a big, fluffy cloud float above them.
Probably…before the raid on the Spade Kingdom? Or perhaps even before they became Magic Knights?
“ Stop thinking,” Yuno suddenly said, his arm draped over his eyes. “ It’ll only make your head hurt.”
Asta’s head snapped in his friend's direction.
“ Hey what’s that supposed to mean?!” He shouted as he sat up, but Yuno didn’t reply; instead he just smirked at him, which only made Asta sigh in aggravation.
“ You’re a real jerk sometimes, y’know that?!” He muttered as he laid back down on the grass, but again Yuno didn’t reply; he just chuckled in amusement.
“ Anyway, I was just trying to remember when the last time we hung out like this was,” Asta explained as he placed his arms behind his head.
Yuno hummed in thought as he moved his arm from over his eyes to his forehead.
“ Hm…probably before we left for the Magic Knights entrance exam?” He muttered as his brows furrowed in thought.
“ That’s what I thought,” Asta muttered as he watched another cloud pass over them.
“ Do you ever wish we could go back to that time?” Asta suddenly asked, causing Yuno to hum and turn to look at his friend.
“ No. Do you?”
Asta shook his head.
“ Nope! I’m happy where I’m at, even though I miss hanging out with you!”
Yuno smiled and nodded.
“ Me too.”
A silence washed over the friends for a moment before Asta suddenly spoke.
“ But hey, once I’m Wizard King I’m sure we’ll get to hang out a lot more together!” He told Yuno cheerfully as he turned to look at him.
He raised a brow at Asta.
“ You mean when I’m Wizard King?”
Asta shook his head, and opened his mouth to argue before he felt a stinging pain on the back of his left hand.
“ Huh? What the heck?!”
Yuno frowned, and then let out a painful hiss and stared at the back of his left hand.
“ Is that a tattoo?!” Asta shouted as he saw a mark slowly begin to appear on the back of Yuno’s left hand.
When the stinging subsided the two noticed a pair of similar, yet different, designs on the back of their hands.
On the back of Yuno’s hand was a five leaf clover and above it was a red star that matched the back of Asta’s headband.
On the back of Asta’s hand was a four leaf clover with a spade in the center and a gold star above it that was similar to Yuno’s Star Magic.
The young men looked up from their hands and stared at each other.
What the heck were these?!
————
“ Well, it looks like it’s a tattoo.” Owen muttered as he inspected the marks on the back of Asta and Yuno’s hands.
“ Like a soulmate tattoo?” Yuno questioned with a slightly raised brow.
“ Actually-.” Owen began but was cut off by Asta.
“ So does that mean that Yuno’s my soulmate?!” Asta asked loudly, his tone clearly surprised.
Meanwhile, Yuno gave Owen a deadpan look.
“ Seriously?”
Asta’s head snapped in Yuno’s direction.
“ ‘Seriously’? What’s that supposed to mean?” Asta asked, his tone switching from surprised to annoyed.
“ You know exactly what I mean,” Yuno began as he turned to look at his friend.
“ I could do a lot better than you.”
A shocked gasp escaped Asta.
“ Excuse me?! You’d be lucky to have me as your soulmate, I’m one heck of a catch!” Asta exclaimed, which made Yuno raise a brow at him.
“ I don’t see it.”
Before Asta could argue more with Yuno, Owen interrupted them.
“ Um, actually, having a tattoo with someone means you’re platonic soulmates. Not romantic ones.” Owen quickly explained.
Asta and Yuno both turned to look at him.
“ Platonic soulmates?” They repeated in slight confusion, which made Owen nod.
“ Yes. You see, in this world you have platonic soulmates and romantic ones; shared tattoos signify platonic, while scars signify romantic. Some people have both, some have neither, and some just have one.”
“ And the biggest difference between platonic and romantic soulmates is that you can have more than one platonic soulmate as opposed to having only one romantic soulmate.” Owen finished as he crossed his arms.
The boys looked at him for a moment as they absorbed the information.
“ That explains why Captain Yami has so many tattoos on his arm,” Asta muttered as it all seemed to click in his head.
“ So, when we meet our romantic soulmates, we’ll have the same scars as them?” Yuno asked, his tone curious as he placed a hand under his chin.
Owen nodded.
“ Yep. And sometimes the scars will be new, or sometimes you’ll develop a scar that your soulmate already has or vice-versa.”
“ That means there’s still a chance that Sister Lily could be my soulmate?!” Asta suddenly exclaimed, causing Yuno and Owen to look at him.
“ Asta, Sister Lily is a nun.” Yuno said in a deadpan voice.
“ So?”
“ ‘So?’ So, that means she can’t get married, and it’s extremely likely that she doesn’t have a soulmate.” Yuno pointed out.
“ Who says she can’t get married and likely doesn’t have a soulmate?!” Asta asked and Yuno stared at him with that deadpan expression again.
“ Uh, the church?”
As the young men went back and forth, Owen couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head.
It was no wonder to him how the two of the them were platonic soulmates.

Plot: Y/N Hanabi is a commoner who has always hated her fireworks magic even though the townsfolk have always praised her. As she grew up, a woman in her life changed her view completely, making her appreciate and slowly understand her "silly" magic.
Even if she started using her magic more, she had no interest in joining the magic knights, and yet during the elves' reincarnation, she helped save the people of the Clover Kingdom. This resulted in the Sorcery King noticing her and convincing her to join the knights, which, after many rejections, she. In the end. Took on the request and participated in the entrance exam a year after getting her grimoire. Once she joined the Blue Rose Knights, something or more like someone was going to completely change ,what once was, her daily routine.

The warm sunlight creeps in through the curtains and hits my eyes, making me wake up.
I groggily sat up straight, and as I rubbed an eye, I looked outside the windows, and I gasped. Dandelions. Everywhere. My mom ran into my room shouting : "Y/N, it's late. Wake up! You're gonna miss the grimoire acceptance ceremony!"
I groaned. I was happy to finally receive a grimoire, but couldn't it be in the afternoon and not at 8 in the morning! Hastily, I got ready. It was the middle of march, but the wind was as strong as ever, so dressing lightly was out of the question. Once I got dressed, I ran down the stairs and precipitated out of the door. Being late today of all days was just a big no-no.
The acceptance ceremony was held in a huge library just outside of my town on a hill filled with flowers. It was a sight for sore eyes. I loved hanging out on that hill. You could read in peace or also just admire the sky and take in the smell of the flowers and nature itself. I really liked that place. Since I was running late, I used a spark under my feet to make me jump up in the air and land on top of the hill next to the library as fast as possible. The breeze hitting my face was a nice way to wake me up. As I thought of that, I got distracted and landed face first on the back of someone. I fell to the ground, and the person I hit quickly turned around.
"Oh god. Are you okay?" I looked up to see a pretty girl with shoulder-length wavy golden brown hair, gentle green eyes, freckles, and the sweetest smile on earth. As I stared at her every detail, she faked coughs as a way to wake me up from my trance. I grabbed her hand quickly and answered: "Uh, yeah! I'm fine, but are you okay? That was a pretty heavy hit, " she chuckled as she pulled me up from the ground. She winked at me and said: "Oh, that was nothing really, I'm blessed with mana, so it was easy to shield!" I giggled alongside her, but as she said that, I couldn't help but notice the overbearing amount of mana pressuring me down. Who was this girl?
"Uhm, I'm Y/N Hanabi. Nice to meet you. " With the hand that was interlocked with hers, I shook it, awaiting a response. "Oh! I'm Serene. It's a pleasure to meet you Y/N, so can I consider you my friend now?" I gave her a smile and a nod in response as she chuckled and started jumping around. Soon after, we noticed everyone had gone inside. I tensed up, grabbed Serene's hand, and ran inside the library not to miss the ceremony. Inside, it was full of people from all around the kingdom. Poor them. They probably had to journey for many days to get here. Luckily, I lived right next to it. Perks of the common realm!
"Welcome youngins! Today, for everyone here, starts a new, meaningful way. I wish for each of you Loyalty, Hope and Love."
An old guy with a pointy hat and a huge beard showed up and spoke to us, to announce the ceremony.
" I am the master of the Grimoire Tower." And that's who he was. Wow, thanks. "We've never had a wizard king from around these parts before or even anyone who stood out for their work in the magic knights. I hope with all my might, that one day one of you will become the wizard king." That was a nice thought of his wasn't it, except right after he lashed out like a crazed animal "REALLY THOUGH, I HOPE IT HAPPENS!" Everyone stood silent for a few seconds before the Tower Master announced the beginning of the actual grimoire acceptance ceremony.
As soon as he finished talking, some of the books from the shelves started glowing with different colors such as red, green, yellow, blue, purple, orange, gray, and different shades of the same colors. A red light landed near my face, and a grimoire with a dark red cover and golden details and three-leaf clover enlightened my face. The details were the same as the ones on the kimono the foreigner had left me. As I looked at it, I could feel my eyes swell in tears, but I quickly washed them away. It was stupid to cry for such a stupid thing anyway.
People started cheering when they noticed two grimoires emanating lots of mana and having printed on the front and back a four-leaf clover. One grimoire was green with golden details, while the other was black with lots of silver details and drawings on it, almost as if it was a royal's. The green one landed on this peasant kid, the guy was tall, skinny, with black messy hair and golden eyes. If I hadn't gotten distracted by the oo-ing of Serene, I would have kept staring at that handsome kid. As I was saying, I was distracted by the oo-ing of Serene. When I turned to face her, the black grimoire was in her hands. She started screeching and jumping around like a child. She turned to me all happy and shouted, " Y/N! Did you see this!" I giggled at her child-like behavior. It was refreshing to see someone like that even though we were the same age. But, unlike her, the other four-leaf clover grimoire holder wasn't as enthusiastic. As soon as she held the book in her hands, the other guy started aiming a wind shot at her. Once it fired, Serene's grimoire floated off her hands and lit up. Immediately it opened and a spell wrote itself under her eyes. The wind arrow was so close to her, and suddenly, she put her hand out and absorbed it, transforming it into a ball of magic. She did a twirl and launched what once was an arrow of wind, and now became a ball of fire in the air. The magic scattered, transforming from free fire into little fire butterflies and sparkles that floated around the tower, leaving the rest of the grimoire receivers in awe at the sight.
"What a magnificent display of magic from our four-leaf clovers!" The old geezer chuckled. Creepy. "It's people like them that will make it and become wizard king one day, i know it!" The guy kept speaking and suddenly Serene shouted .
"Even if I have no care about becoming wizard king, I will protect this kingdom with every single drop of my magic. Until my mana dissolves my entire being, I will not stop helping the people of this land. So you can count on me!"
Oh, she's so cool. People cheered at Serene's speech, and just like a spell, everyone's magic seemed to rise just thanks to it. The other four-leaf guy just shook his head and rolled his eyes. What a jerk, a handsome one, but still a jerk. This was a very inspiring and beautiful moment and after a bit everyone started leaving. But, suddenly, someone spoke up.
"U-Uhm! My grimoire hasn't come yet!"
We all turned to face the origin of that squeaky voice only to be met by this pretty short kid with dirty silver hair and green eyes, still in a weird pose with his hands up in the air. As if expecting something. I couldn't help but chuckle. I was cursed with this lowly magic, but from him, I sensed no magic at all. Was it really possible, in a world where magic meant everything, to be born without it? I pitied him. Soon after, the old guy spoke to answer him, "Uhm- You can try again next year!"
And the other kids around us started laughing at him. Absolute jerks, come on, poor guy! Well, I was about to chuckle before, but I would never laugh in his face. That's just mean. I was about to tear up for him. He looked distraught, almost as if getting his grimoire meant his whole life. As the guy had his reality check, I could hear that the voice of some of the kids who laughed got muffled. I turned around to check why, and I was met with an angry Serene using her magic to cover the mouths of the jerks who were laughing at him. That girl was so nice she should have become the icon of good people, she was just amazing!
After some time everyone started leaving, and so did Serene and I. "Poor guy, I hope he gets an easy life. " I spoke up, but Serene quickly countered: "You know, I have a feeling he's going to become a pain in the ass for the nobles of this kingdom. He'll become the greatest I’m sure of it!" In her eyes, there was a shine that could make the biggest star seem invisible. She stopped and faced the hill. After a while of standing in silence, she sat down and gestured for me to sit next to her. I got behind her, and my breath hitched. The view in front of us was majestic: the wind made dandelions fly across the sky, and the sound of the trees rustling was all I could hear. Everything was picturesque, adorned with a background of the prettiest pink sunset. I turned my head to look at Serene, and if the view wasn't already breathtaking, she would have been the cherry on top. The wind ruffled her hair, letting her pretty green eyes be the focus of the beautiful painting in front of me.
I was gawking until she spoke up: "You know why I think that manaless kid is going to surpass everyone?" She turned to face me, and I could see that her face had this small grin printed on it. The gentle light of the sunset hit her face, making her look very golden-ish. Her beauty was at the same level as the foreigner, and I could feel my heart flutter. Only then did I realize she was asking me a question, so I answered: "U-uhm... No?" She chuckled.``Well, it's because I can tell he strives for more. He'll work more than anyone and get so much more than he expected, I feel it in my soul!" She kept giggling, and I sighed. In the end, she is still a child at heart. We spent another hour on that hill, talking and laughing about stupid stuff. It almost seemed as if we had known each other since forever, yet i had met her that same day.
Once it started to be really dark, Serene walked me home, and from there, we parted with the hope of meeting up again soon. I opened the door to my house, only to be met by confetti and balloons. Congratulations, Y/N! Was written on the festive banner hanging on the wall right in front of the door. "Congrats!" My family chirped in, all smiley. I gave them a smile and walked in, letting myself be showered with praise and compliments by my family and our neighbors. It was hard to admit, but I really enjoyed all that attention. "Big sister Y/N, can we see your grimoire!" One of the kids from my town spoke up, and then everyone joined in asking for me to show my magic. And so I did. My grimoire lit up in a shade of red, and, just like Serene, a spell wrote under my eyes. I quickly read it, and without a second thought, I shot like a string of fire that caught the kid who had asked to see my grimoire. The spell had him sit on it as the string of fire took the shape of a cross. It flew out the door and up into the air before exploding into a big cross-like firework, and the kid slowly fell from the sky, admiring the sparkes it was releasing. Then I lifted my arm up, and coloured clouds formed right under the kid, making him stop from falling and slowly bringing him to the ground. The townsfolk sat in awe at my magic, and I could tell that they were impressed. "This has always been my magic, but with the grimoire I'm going to be able to do lots of things!" I gave them a grin from ear to ear that made everyone lit up. And with that the party started. As we were eating and playing, one of my neighbors walked up to me and asked me something: " Are you going to join the magic knights now?"
I sat there in silence for a few seconds until I uttered something that I may regret: " No actually, it would be a waste of time. But if the kingdom needs it, I'll gladly protect my people!" I smiled and went off to play with the younger kids.
The celebrations went on for the whole night and the next morning I was exhausted. But the rest of the town? Oh they were JUST FINE?? I mean good for them yeah, but that energy is draining to just look at.

Leopold Vermillion for the ask game please
Hi anon! Thank you so much for the ask! I love Leo so I was very excited to get the opportunity to write some headcanons about him! 🥰
Headcanons are below the cut!
Questions from this 4 Headcanons Ask Game
Headcanon A:  realistic
One of Leo's dreams is to become a Magic Knight Captain, and when he is older, he will take over as the Crimson Lions' captain. There is a certain point in time when Leo is the Crimson Lions' captain at the same time Asta is the captain of the Black Bulls, and during that time they have a (playful) rivalry with each other, especially during the Magic Knights' Entrance Exams when they will often raise their hands for the same applicants and jokingly "fight over" examinees.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
Leo is not finished growing, and he will be the tallest member of any of the royal houses by the end of the series (and much taller than both Fuegoleon and Mereoleona).
Bonus silly headcanon:
When Leo was a baby, he used to follow his siblings around because he really looked up to them, but he would pretend he wasn't following them (i.e. try to hide if they turned around ect.). Mereoleona and Fuegoleon were both well aware of this, but while Fue made a conscious effort to make sure he never went anywhere potentially dangerous for Leo when he was toddling behind him, Mereoleona led him into all kinds of rough terrain and at one point into a ditch because "it builds character" and any little brother of hers should be strong enough to keep up. (She loves him though, I promise 😂)
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
Leo always goes out of his way to verbally praise and compliment his friends and squad mates because he never received a lot of verbal affirmation when he was growing up. Though he always knew his family loved him, they were all kind of stern or serious, and expressing their love in words and/or giving verbal affirmation didn't come easily for them. Leo never wants any of the important people in his life to doubt that he cares and is proud of them, so he often showers them with compliments, and he is known for being very generous with his words. However, no one really realises that Leo himself is always left craving some words of affirmation of his own and actually has deep insecurities about himself and his own abilities (particularly as they compare to his older brother and sister).
**Note: Most of the words of affirmation Leo has received in his childhood came from his older brother, Fuegoleon, and they meant so much to him and stuck with him for years afterwards. It's that feeling of being noticed, cared for, and appreciated that he is trying to give to his friends when he affirms them.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Leopold will eventually be the Wizard King. His reign as Wizard King coincides with Damnatio's reign as King of the Clover Kingdom, and King Damnatio often views Wizard King Leopold with the sort of somewhat-exasperated affection one might show a chaotic but well-meaning little brother. Wizard King Leopold hates paperwork and has declared many national holidays to avoid doing it. 😁

Dust Watched: Black Clover
Genres: Shounen, Fantasy (Magic), Comedy, Action // 170 episodes
Jesus Christ. It’s over. I’m free.
So... if y’all were here in the crisp old year of 2017, you’d remember “Black Clover” being a huge meme, mainly because of Asta’s VA, who was a rookie and this was his first main role and his performance was hilariously bad. So then, why did I decide to watch BC anyway? Well, I was kinda craving some traditional Shounen and it was only 50 episodes long. Quite short for a Shounen! I’ll finish it quickly and it’ll be just a nice time waster haha, right? ....Right?
I don’t know if BC garnered much more popularity than initially thought but one day, the number 50 disappeared from its episode listing and now 5 years (for me) and 170 episodes later I’m left as a husk of a human being. Worst part? It was ACTUALLY starting to get good!
✧  story  ✧
The story is your usual Shounen affair. Asta and Yuno are orphans who are found in front of a church. They grow up together in a small little village in the Forsaken Realm of Clover Kingdom. Yuno starts using his Wind magic at an early age while Asta looks like the Liver King at the age of 10 because he believes that intensely working out will “awaken” his magic. They make a vow to become the “Wizard King” and at the age of 15 they both attend the ceremony to recieve their grimoires which are spell books that help enchance ones magic abilites. You could see this as a sort of “coming-of-age” ceremony.
Grimoires have leaves on them, with 3 leaf ones being the most common. Of course, Yuno is too special for that, and he recieves a 4-leaf grimoire (meaning he has insane magical potential). Meanwhile Asta gets umm, nothing. This is when he finds out that his magic has not manifested as he has none. He gets ridiculed, falls into depression for one episode, then comes into possession of a 5-leaf grimoire. These grimoires are extremely rare and are said to contain a Devil inside them. Nevertheless Asta takes what he can get, as the grimoire also gives him the power to negate magic.
The two of them then set off for the Noble Realm to take part in the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. The Magic Knights serve under the Wizard King and getting into a squad is a feat in and of itself. Of course, Yuno joins the Golden Dawn, the most prestigious one while Asta barely gets accepted into the Black Bulls, the one everyone considers the loser/weirdo squad. This is where their story splits and we spend most of our time with Asta and the Black Bulls as they go on missions.
I don’t have any problems with the set-up itself. It’s full of Shounen cliché’s but that’s fine! Doesn’t mean you can’t make the story your own! But that’s where the problems come in. The cliché’s don’t stop.
I went back to rewatch the OP’s as it really has been quite some time since I’ve first seen the first arcs and that’s where I realized what the problem was with this anime. Around the first 130-140 episodes are ONE story building up to an honestly pretty mid climax. There’s a big enemy but actually he has a boss who is an even stronger enemy but actually they also have a boss who is an even stronger enemy but ACTUALLY THERE’S- repeat until the end of the arc. That, plus collecting some stones are the entire plot for 75% of the runtime. It’s boring! In a bubble the fights are great; all of them need a different tactic which keeps them exciting. The fillers are absolute boredom. I know they’re a Shounen staple but just because they’re fillers doesn’t mean you can get away with no effort put into them.
Worse, the next big arc after this one is GOOD! It’s REALLY good! And I have no idea why they stopped the anime at 170 episodes because it actually ends while this arc is still very much going on. So now I’m mad. I sat through the mediocre 140 episodes of this anime to finally get something good only for them to end it right when things were starting to get exciting. I don’t know if they caught up with the manga or whatever, and I know there’s at least a movie coming out but argghhhh.
I was also going to include a VERYYY long rant of all the problems I have with the world-building but it’s not worth it. One thing I’ll mention is the class divide. Peasants are seen as worthless by not only the nobles but also the commoners as they usually have the least powerful magic. That in itself is an okay set-up. What is NOT okay is that in flashbacks we’re shown that the 1st Wizard King was trying to fight this class divide. The current Wizard King is the 28th. NOTHING changed in that amount of time. Literally, how?? What?? Let’s see, if we say each King’s rule comes out to ~30 years on average that’s almost 900 years. It’s baffling. And there are multiple other times where the worldbuilding just makes no sense similar to what I just mentioned and it ruins immersion. Worldbuilding can make or break a Fantasy story and BC’s is very much surface level. It truly comes off as the mangaka just putting out the first thing he thought of but not believing that it’ll succeed long enough to need a well established ground to stand on.
✧  characters  ✧
Ast and Yuno’s friendship/rivalry, the mainstay of all Shounen protags, is the weakest I’ve probably ever seen. Due to them being selected to different Squads and the story mainly following Asta, Yuno barely gets any character development for the majority of the series. Their only interactions is also just them fist bumping when they meet, insulting each other in a bro way, then declaring that “I’ll become the Wizard King, you’ll see!” and they go on their seperate ways until another random chance encounter 30 episodes later where the same thing happens. I have nothing else to add. It’s just underwhelming.
But you’d think the Black Bull members would be interesting enough to help carry the show as they have the most screentime after Asta but they have the same problem as the worldbuilding. They’re all 1-dimensional characters whose entire personality usually revolves around one joke that gets repeated every single damn time they’re on screen. During the fights, they basically turn into different characters. There’s a sense of character growth and introspection that allows them to bring out more of their strength; but the second we’re back into filler territory, it’s back to square 1. The writer seemingly had no idea how to make these characters interesting without their gags so their growth are a complete roller coaster. It’s very dissapointing to see a character revert back to their old behaviour after a huge fight where their characters really shined. It’s also difficult to really see the true comradery between the squad members when they’re so one note.
The randomly appearing and disappearing characters is another big complaint of mine. Villains turned good guys not turning up again is something I can let the anime get away with as most of them aren’t from the Clover Kingdom and so have no reason to stay in the vicinity. But the Black Bulls seem to have a weirldly high number of members who literally turn up out of nowhere with no foreshadowing just to help with the plot. Most egregious case of such a character is Zora; dude basically gets an entire mini arc for himself. Gets to show off his magic, we get his backstory, character growth, how he would work well within the Black Bulls and after he joins the squad the dude basically vanishes off the face of the Earth. Bring him back! What the hell is he doing while the others are on the verge of being killed off by the new villains! What was even the point of giving him so much screentime??
✧  art  ✧
Honestly, BC’s general art style is just kind of unappealing to me but that’s nor here or there as I’m more interested in the quality and animation. And that is... a mixed bag. Fight scenes obviously go hard. 99% of effort went into those, as it usually does for Shounens. Filler episodes can get quite ugly though, like hilariously so. The section of the anime that doesn’t exactly keep up with these rules is the episodes right after EP50. It’s quite obvious that additional episodes were requested quite late into the runtime and so you can see a significant drop in quality just overall for every episode for quite a bit. I don’t even want to imagine the crunch the staff had to do.
On a sidenote: they should’ve hired whoever was doing the OP’s as the art director. I couldn’t figure out for the longest time why the OP’s look so good, yet when we see the same scenes in the actual anime they’re underwhelming. Then it clicked; the colour pallette! BC’s colours are very washed out which just makes it boring to look at. But the OP’s are the exact opposite. Stark colours, interesting compositions... I’m honestly on the verge of tears just thinking about how good BC would’ve looked with that style.

So what of Asta’s VA, Kajiwara Gakuto, whose performance propelled BC into memedom with just one episode? Since then he has banked himself a few roles here and there, most impressive of which is Shinra, the MC of “Enen no Shouboutai”. His improvement cannot be understated. I didn’t even realize it was him for quite a while. And that’s all well and good but I still don’t think he should’ve been thrust into the limelight with such a difficult role as Asta. We can admire his improvement but it’s still a fact that at least the first 30 episodes of this anime still has his rookie scream-talking before he managed to find a good balance between the two.
One thing I absolutely have no complaints of is the OP/ED songs. Shounen OP’s always go really hard and it’s no exception for BC.
✧  overview ✧
Despite its rocky start, “Black Clover” has managed to amass a small but rabid fanbase. Or rather, for that reason. As fans’ most often cited reason for why they like BC is its Grand Improvement that it showed during its runtime. However, if I look at the big picture, while BC’s improvement is definitely worthy of praise, the anime started 10 steps behind other Shounens and, in my opinion, it only managed to claw its way up to the starting zone. An anime needing ~140 episodes to get to the level that most other Shounens START at isn’t that impressive in my eyes. Due to that, I could never find myself recommending BC to anyone. There’s just too much garbage you need to ignore til you get to the actually good part.
My Rating: 4.3/10

Runaway
Okay so I wrote something anyway love you guys :)
Meet Amaya Harlow noble and full time badass
Tumblr media
“What do you think you are doing ungrateful child!” A slap echoed in the study. The man in question was Cristano Harlow, noble of the Clover Kingdom. “I keep you fed, I keep you clothed and you can’t do a simple thing for me? Your father!”
The man was in a rage, his fiery hair seemingly matching the flush on his cheeks as a second slap echoed.
“I’m sorry.” Amaya whispered through quiet anger.
“No you aren’t.” He spat before gripping at her hair. “You’ll keep your mouth shut, you will marry anyone I choose, better yet you’ll do anything I say. For example- if my business partner wants to see the merchandise you’ll let him see it…. Understood.”
“Yes sir.”
Grey eyes locked onto the wide fearful eyes of her younger brother- wondering if it would happen to him too. It wouldn’t. Cristano would never lay a hand on his son. His daughter however he slapped for simply answering a question in a way he didn’t like.
That was it. Amaya couldn’t handle it anymore she had to leave.
Once Cristano left Eren stepped towards his sister.
“Amaya?”
“I have to leave Eren.” She said softly. His stormy grey eyes locked with her silvery ones in confusion. “He won’t hurt you. He never has. I can’t live like this anymore.”
It hurt to hear his older sister sound so broken, weak, fragile. She was always boisterous and rowdy with him teaching him magic and sword play she even taught him archery considering that was the only thing their father would boast about her, his eldest child- her incredible archery skills. It was pathetic really that he didn’t see anything else worthy of being a Harlow.
“Where will you go?” He asked. He was only 13 while he understood her leaving he still wanted to know she’d be safe. Thirteen was when he had to start becoming a man his father told him. Amaya gently ruffled his auburn locks, the shade so much lighter than her bright scarlet ones.
“The magic knight entrance exams are soon. Maybe I can join a squad and keep out of fathers radar.” Eren’s eyes sparkled. The idea of his sister being a knight filled him with so much joy.
“Promise to write to me?”
“Always.”
It was only weeks later when she’d escaped and made her way to the capital. A silver locket pressed to her chest with her hand as she navigates through the busy streets towards the arena for the exam. The locket held a picture of Amaya and Eren, a good luck charm from the little wizard.
Next thing she knew she had a number and was waiting for the exam to begin. She pulled her cloak tighter against her for comfort. This might have been insane why did she think she could hide from the Harlow watchers like this? Becoming a magic knight… wouldn’t that put more eyes on her? No. She promised Eren.
The first test was basic, fly on a broom, she felt like a child standing so perfectly upon the old cleaning utensil high above the rest. She sniggered quietly watching people stagger and wobble beneath her.
Next was magic blasting? She had to blast magic at a wall. She wasn’t too sure about that considering blasts weren’t something she ever worked on. With a steady breath she allowed her grimoire to flutter, a new page being written, the royal blue covers seemed to glow happily at the new page making her smile. A small ball barely bigger than her palm appeared, a black spiral formed with what seemed like white sparkles. Her hand buzzed urging her to throw it. Without any beautiful movement she threw the orb hard at the wall tearing a hole clean through. She jumped a little in excitement before straightening herself out and walking towards the next test.
Moving targets. She held back her excitement. Technically there wasn’t anything against her using weapons as far as she was aware but she didn’t bring her bow but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make one out of magic…. Actually no she had something more fun up her sleeve. With a puff of her chest her grimoire came to life once more.
“Rain fall target lock.” With a tilt of her head a grey cloud seemed to form around her grimoire and with a crack rain water seemed to strike its mark with ease. She smiled again, pulling down her hood to hide the glee, that was always her favourite spell.
Time to create something with magic. Amaya’s nose scrunched she has no idea what to do that that task. She could bring over a small Thunder cloud, darken the arena, make it rain or make a shield or mist… that might be a good idea. With a quiet hum Amaya stepped forward hands seemingly just swaying through the air. The squad captains watched closely confused at the simple movement as the air began to still.
“Is she crazy or are we just not seeing what she is?” Jack asked, the captain of the green mantises. Amaya’s head snapped towards the captain making him furrow his brows- had she heard him?
“Excuse me?” Her voice carried towards one of the other examinees.
“Yes?”
“Sorry to bother you could you do me a favour and blast some magic at me. I can create mist shields and well it’s a bit hard to see as you can… well see.” Amaya shrugged. The other mage squinted at the slightly hazy orb just barely visible. They nod. Magic water swirling in their palms.
“Is she actually crazy what’s happening?” Jack asked again.
“She’s got balls is what.” Yami, the Black Bulls captain, laughed.
The mage’s magic swelled before blasting towards Amaya who stood perfectly still. The captains and those watching nearby held their breath only to see a spray of mist swell around her the water magic disappearing at a touch.
“It was a shield.” Amaya yelled out in conformation. Held breaths dissipated- okay she wasn’t crazy that’s good.
Next she needed to help a seed grow. She won’t lie that was very easy especially with magic that involves the rain. It bloomed into a beautiful blue rose, Amaya hummed happily as she held the rose up to be seen- Charlotte was more than impressed by this.
Finally. Amaya had been waiting for this a fight. A mage stood across from her, his magic seemingly water of some kind. Maybe snow she wasn’t sure. With a grin she took a step forward.
“Little missy thinks she’s tough just because she’s been doing so well so far.” He taunted. From the shade of her hood all he could see was the grin that split across her face. Taunting back she laughed lowly.
“Little man thinks he’s special with his pretty purple robes.” He flushed.
“Don’t mock me little girl.”
“Ouch that one hurt.” She snickered. Her tongue swiped across her teeth. “Are you going to fire first or just keep walking backwards?”
“You insolent child.” Within an instant her smile dropped and so did she beneath the shade of her grimoire which was left floating above her cloak. “Where did she go-“
“I’m right here.” She whispered into his ear. His eyes widened and head turned, she was behind him. But how? He wanted to yell. She had only seemed to have rain magic of some kind. “What did I scare you?” She laughed.
“No you lowly peasant. A mere slave like you could do no such thing. You vile rodent of a being.” He barked, trailing into insults many people chose to cover their ears for.
“People like you piss me off.” She spat before blasting him with her new found spell- though more subdued so as to not put a hole in him. He fell to the ground skidding away from his Grimoire. He looked up at her, long scarlet hair shadowing her face, silver grey eyes staring him down as he slowly lost consciousness. “Oops.”
With a yawn she waited her turn cloak now resting comfortably back on her shoulders. Her number should be soon she thinks. She’d heard before the exams began that two new squads had formed over the last few months, Black Bulls and Golden Dawn. Grey eyes scanned the Captains, she really hadn’t thought about who she’d like to join. Definitely not the Silver Eagle or the Grey Deer she wasn’t a fan of the Silva family and while she knows the Grey deer have a good reputation her father spoke of the captain highly so that’s a no. The Coral Peacock didn’t peak her interest and within the lack of feminine traits she has the one thing she got from her mum was at least a sense of fashion- so she wasn’t a fan of the colours sue her. Purple Orca’s also was a no her father was friends with their old captain. Blue Rose didn’t peak her interest, Charlotte was nice they’d met before but all girls meant she’d not be allowed to have fun- Uh yes because Char is a stickler for following rules. Yep. The Green Mantis just wasn’t up her ally she’d definitely butt heads with Jack knowing her personality when pissed off. Crimson Lions… the captain isn’t ugly… but again a stickler for rules and orders she might not get much freedom. The Black Bulls had Yami Sukehiro as its captain, many people in the nobles know of him as the foreigner that pisses off the Royals and such. She might get along with him if memory serves her right from the few times they met when she was sneaking out- doubtfully he’d remember that. Golden Dawn she new nothing about. She didn’t know the captain except that he was a noble and that he wore a mask at all times according to the crowds knowledge. She stared at him, drinking in his posture and movement. He was a kind man probably lenient if this is the first time he’s a captain.
She didn’t expect to see all hands but the fact that Nozel was the only ones who didn’t raise his hand made her smirk- so maybe he’d recognised her she couldn’t tell if that was good or bad.
“Golden Dawn.” She said before anyone else could.
“You’ll be the first person to-“
“”I said the squad I want to be in referee is that not what I was meant to say?” She asked. Her grey eyes stared up to look at her Captain who gave a genuinely kind smile.
“Well uh-“
“Welcome to The Golden Dawn you’ll be shown to your designated area by a guard.” William interjected. She nodded before walking off.
Yami whistled lowly to his friend.
“Can’t tell if you bagged an insane woman, an attractive woman or one that’ll fuck you over.” Yami joked.
“Now Yami don’t be crass.”
“Don’t deny her beauty I saw you watching her.”
“We all where.” William responded quickly.
“Sure sure.” Yami laughed.
William rolled his eyes, he could tell she’d make a great asset.

Chapter 3
♧︎︎︎ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐊𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈 ♧︎︎︎
One of the most anticipated days of the year came, it was finally time for the Magic Knights Entrance Examination, where aspiring young mages from all over the Clover Kingdom come to become Magic Knight.
The Common Realm was full of cheers and shouts, the young mages making their way towards the hall.
The Squad Captains were all gathered in the back, waiting for everything to settle down so that they can make their appearance.
Among them stood the princess in a beautiful beige gown with delicate embroidery of gold and white flowers with off-shoulder sleeves. She wore a cape that had the same patterns as those of Wizard King's. She wore the ornaments of the Houses as well, a Silva cross, a red lion necklace, a purple gem necklace, a blue rose brooch along with two other brooches.
Her cape was made of beige velvet and was floor-length, her appearance was screaming royalty.
The princess just like the Magic Emperor was very fond of magic.
She wasn't allowed to make an appearance until Captain William was escorting her,
Her curiosity getting the best of her caused her to peek from the back to see what was happening.
A sturdy boy with short height, ash-blonde hair, and green eyes was yelling and shouting as a flock of anti-birds surrounded him.
Anti-birds were birds that were attracted to less magic, the lesser the magic the more the birds, and vice versa.
That's interesting... She wondered,
Her gaze wandered off towards the guy standing next to the ash-blonde and found that contrary to the blondie there wasn't a single bird near him.
She was intrigued by it so much that she was almost about to fall from leaning too much.
The captains of the squads then decided to make an entrance and made way to their seats,
The anti-birds that were all over the place were now nowhere to be seen.
"Princess?" Asked Captain William and offered her, his arm.
She took it and they made their way towards the front.
Audible gasps were heard all across, this was the first time the princess had made an appearance in public.
The hall went silent as she cleared her throat,
"Welcome, to one and all present here, it delights me to see that there are so many young mages who want to serve the country. First of all, I would like to take a moment and appreciate all of you, this means a lot to all of us, to see that people care about the country.
"I am sure that every single one of you has high potential and has strived to become a magic knight but in case you don't get selected this year, don't give up, try again next year, keep trying and you will succeed and even if you aren't a magic knight, you can still serve the country by working as anything you want.
"In this exam, you are not judged based on where you come from but instead on how passionate and worthy you are, you are judged based on your will and your sincerity to protect the nation. Now I wish all of you the very best because after all, you all are the future and the hope of our kingdom. Captain Vengeance will take on from here." She concluded, stepping away,
The examinees erupted in cheers and were more confident now.
Along with the two boys who came from the village on the outskirts of the kingdom, they were thrilled to see that the princess was so supportive of all and not discriminatory.
The ash-blonde had a hint of admiration in his eyes, whereas the ravenette was curious about the princess as he saw the multiple patches and ornaments from different nobilities.
Captain Vengeance took the center and started to address the huge crowd.
"Attention examinees, thank you for waiting, I will be administering this year's exam." And opened his grimoire
"Magic tree's decent!" he said and his grimoire started glowing green and golden.
The sky darkened and huge roots descended from the sky and made magical broomsticks for the mages.
The princess sat on the edge of her, excited by the magic of the Golden Dawn's Captain, his magic never failed to impress her,
"You have waited long enough, the time has come to let the entrance exam begin!" he said
"In just a few moments, we will begin the first in the series of tests, the nine magic knights captain will be serving as the judges, and when the exam is complete we will choose the individuals we want on our squads if chosen you are in, if more than one squad chooses you, you will decide which one you want to choose. However, if you are not selected by any squad that means you have been deemed unqualified to join the magic knights"
"And now for your first test, you must use the brooms you are given to fly." He added
A magic broom test was the easiest, it was based on how much control one has over their magic and how can one concentrate it on an object and it was also the basic mode of transportation for mages.
Soon the first test began and everybody started to struggle with their brooms, some able to fly a bit and some just wobbling on theirs.
Y/n looked for the two boys from earlier and saw the ash-blonde one struggling with his broom, he wasn't able to make it fly,
As suspected, he has low mana but his determination is commendable, She thought
She then looked around for the other guy but he was nowhere to be seen.
Beside Fuegoleon, Leopold gasped, he was looking up the sky,
Y/n followed his gaze only to find the ravenette from earlier, gliding through the air on his broom just as easily as walking on the ground.
He radiates an intense amount of mana, just who he is..? She thought getting captivated by him.
It is time... She thought
Getting up from her place, she went near Captain Vengeance and told him that she was leaving,
He was the only one who knew what she was about to do.
Even though Y/n couldn't be in the squads, she still wanted to fight and test her magic to see how worthy she was.
So she had decided that she will take part in the one-on-one battle amongst the mages, which was also the last test of the exam.
The examinees however did not know about it and were oblivious to the fact that the princess was about to fight someone from amongst them.
Y/n had changed into much less formal attire and was wearing a brown robe on top, that hid her crests and face.
She was dressed up as a commoner who was about to take her exam.
She was standing amidst the crowd trying to get a closer look at the fight when she bumped into someone.
She waited for the impact but it never came, she looked up to see the black-haired guy from earlier, towering above her.
Her hood was not covering her face anymore which made her panic, but as she saw that he didn't seem to recognize her, she sighed in relief.
Nobody was able to recognize her, probably because of her outfit and because she was standing far up at that time.
He offered his hand to pick her up and she accepted, placing her hand delicately in his thick and calloused but surprisingly soft one.
His hand was warm against her cool one, which made her shudder. She studied him through her eyes that peeked through the hood.
He was handsome, that was for certain, his messy black hair sticking up, his delicate yet refined features making her more curious about him.
She would have concluded that he was a prince and one of much more power than her if not for his attire. It was not a formal one and much different from the people who came from the Common realm.
But that wasn't what she was staring at, her gaze was too busy fixed on the mesmerizingly beautiful golden gaze of his. They were guarded, and still had such an intensity that chilled her to the bone.
The crowd suddenly cheered, making her tear her gaze away from his, she looked at her hand and retracted it immediately.
She felt heat rush up to her cheeks, but she smiled at him nonetheless to be polite, before walking away but not before noticing someone approach him.
What just happened? She thought, the blush creeping its way back on her face.
****
Yuno never cared about anyone, he liked being alone and away from people,
He knew that he would get selected in at least one magic squad, he was also certain that his Rival and childhood friend will get selected too, but it would not be that easy.
As Yuno waited for someone to choose him as their opponent, someone bumped into him. His reflexes acting quickly and saving the person from falling by making a small tornado.
He was about to retort with some sassy comment when he looked at her, she was already looking at him.
He didn't know what to do, so he offered her his hand, which she took by delicately placing her soft hands on his.
Her hand was cool as compared to his warm one, he felt a shiver run up his spine which he shook off.
Her y/e/c eyes looking at him with such intensity that he felt pinned. She didn't seem to be moving too. She smelled like roses, much different than what he was used to.
The crowd behind them erupted in cheers making her withdraw her hand from his, she looked at him with a smile, a light pink hue dusted her cheeks, and thanked him, before turning away from him and going away.
What the hell just happened!? He thought before someone else stepped in his way.
****
Y/n was standing in front of the crowd watching the contenders spar, it was an extraordinary experience for her, to witness their powers up close rather than standing with the other nobles.
All of the people that had come here were amazing with their powers, they were strong too, this was going to be strong competition but it also means that there will be strong people in the squads.
She was personally rooting for the blonde and the black-haired guy, she had seen the blonde in action and it blew her mind away.
Yeah, he possessed almost zero mana but he was strong, his muscles were a force to be reckoned with. It was thrilling to watch him fight if you could call it that.
It had been more like just one hit because he won with just one hit, his grimoire was weird looking too.
She had heard about the five-leafed grimoire but couldn't remember what exactly it was, his sword was cool too, as he cut through the Bah-ha guy's spell.
Bah-ha had it coming for him, using someone to make himself look good is pathetic and not a quality that any magic knight should possess.
The blonde guy however looked determined and had his morals intact throughout the test, I just knew that he will get selected.
Father is going to be so happy!! She thought with a smile.
It had been quite a while and now she saw Salim Hapshass enter the battleground.
She had never liked him, she thought he was petty and a narcissist. He was the most discriminatory person she had ever seen, he always had his head way up in his as-
He was always picking fights with her and trying to get her to bow down to him and like him, his parents had even wanted them to be betrothed to each other but she had politely refused.
She remembered that she had almost laughed at their faces when they suggested that because it was seriously ridiculous.
She then turned around to see who his opponent was and saw the same ravenette again.
Oh, this will be amazing She thought, with an excited gleam in her eyes, which replicated her father's.

How about Lorelei for the character ask? 😁 Or if it's supposed to be just BC characters, then how about Finral?
Sun... You… 😳 You want to ask about an oc of mine? 🥺😭 (Don’t worry, those are happy tears!)
Of course I'll answer about Lorelei (and Finral)! I genuinely didn't intend for anyone to ask about my ocs but now that you have I just gotta do it! I really don't talk about my other ocs too much (which is my fault as their creator) so thank you for giving me the chance to just go all out!
..........
Lorelei Koascky
How I feel about this character: Lorelei's concept was one of those "my brain grabbed this and won't let go until I give it attention" sort of ideas. Her concept is basically a combination of Genya Shinazugawa from Demon Slayer (character who can't use the series standard power system and adds a gun) and Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia (character not born with power is a fanatic over powers). I do wish I came up with more ideas regarding her interacting with other characters.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: None! Lorelei is asexual and aromantic. Her one true love is magic.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Her and Julius have the ultimate magic-loving friendship. Julius would go wandering around Clover finding new magic and then when he comes back to Lorelei, she'll geek out over it too and probably write a ten-page essay about the mechanics and theoretical applications of it.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Not enough people know about her for there to be popular and unpopular opinions but here's something I think people would disagree with: Lorelei is just like Asta, with no capability for magic. I think some people would be upset with making Asta less special but I think it's important to Lorelei. Even if she can't use any magic, she loves the concept and how it exists in the world.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Uh... How do I address this question with an oc? Oh, how about I share something about how they affect canon? For Lorelei, she'd be watching the Magic Knight Entrance Exam and when none of the captains raise their hands for Asta, she goes "no takers? Okay, hey kid why not work with me?" Asta proclaimed he was going to be the Wizard King and she points out that she works directly with him so it'd be a great opportunity. However, Asta still ends up with the Black Bulls because he wants to help people as a Magic Knight. Even so, everyone else present is a little more aware of Asta because one of the Wizard King's close associates made an offer to him and not Yuno with his four-leaf grimoire (there was less opportunity but you get the idea).
My OTP: Lorelei and Julius. Strictly platonically. Julius needs a co-worker who will enable him.
My cross over ship: Let's see Lorelei meet Lady Nagant from MHA. Not romantically but I'd like to see them doing target practice together. And heck, Lorelei would totally be down for learning about Quirks. They're not magic but they're just, if not more, interesting.
A headcanon fact: Or just a fact since I created Lorelei. If I were to write a more complete Black Clover fic involving my ocs, I would definitely find a way for one of Lorelei's guns to end up in Asta's grimoire. She wouldn't even get mad because "oh my gosh that grimoire just absorbs things?! 🤩 And I have a student for gunmanship?! 👀” Also, gives her even more reason to want to research the grimoire. It's one thing for Yuno's grimoire to be able to absorb the spell used to summon the wind spirit. It's another thing for a ragged and peculiar grimoire to absorb a whole physical item!
.....
Finral Roulacase
How I feel about this character: Finral is very funny and likable. He’s a comical loser but in a way that makes me sympathize with him. He can be cowardly and brave. And his struggle to connect with Langris is touching. I want a friend like him in my life.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Finesse mainly. Little bit of Yami because it's popular with a couple friends.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Vanessa. They are the elder siblings of the Black Bulls and their teamwork at Seabed Temple and the Witches' Forest was really cool. Also, he needs to be friends with Nacht so they can vice captain the squad together. I also have him being friends with my ocs Helia and Josele, though the relationships are wildly different.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Finral is… kind of useless. Most every mage can use a broom to fly places and others have spells for traveling or mobility. Sure transportation spacial magic is useful for fast travel but it’s not any good for traversing to new locations, which standard mobility spells can accomplish.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: We recently got more reconciliation, and even teamwork, between the space bros. I just wish it didn't end how it did, that being too soon.
My OTP: Finral x Finesse. They're both such sweet people and Finral's humorous determination to be good enough for her really did endear me to him.
My cross over ship: I can’t really think of anyone. Sorry. 😔
A headcanon fact: He knows how to cook. Before Charmy came along, he was the main chef of the Black Bulls. He's decent enough, can get a nice sear on a steak and make good sauces. Nothing too fancy but he's better than just toast and cereal.

part 3. working on a title. can also read here
one: i do not like writing fighting scenes, one was needed so i bull shat my way thru it, sorry
two: it gets really fluffy at the end (and spicy if salt is too spicy for you)
nozel x oc
warning: language, mention of blood during a battle, fluffy nozel, cliffhanger?
enjoy!
“You sent her to the Black Bulls?!”
“Are you questioning my judgement?”
“Yes, obviously. You sent your sister to live with a bunch of heathens. I understand she can’t be with us, by why not just not make any arrangements for her?”
“Because if I had done that she would go to the entrance exam… and make a fool of herself in front of everyone. I have to prevent any embarrassment for our family.”
I lean back into my desk chair and look up at Nozel.
“The Black Bulls… are so unbearable.”
“Perhaps I’ve spoiled you.”
“Don’t you hate Yami? What did you say last time you had a captains meeting… foreigner??”
“Yes, he’s a foul-mouthed, filthy foreign-”
I crossed my arms and smirked.
“Then what, pray tell, am I?”
“I must leave now. I have some things to complete before the exam tomorrow.”
“Why? I mean you’re not gonna recruit anyone who attends the exam and we’ve reviewed every eligible royal and high ranking noble.”
“Captain duties, you wouldn’t understand.”
“I understand that you’re avoiding the question.”
“Seraphina, I really must go now,” He turned and walked towards the door.
“Wait, am I a foul-mouthed, filthy foreigner or not?”
“Foul-mouthed? Yes. Filthy? I should hope not considering how much time you spent in the bath.”
“Oh, so now you have a problem with how much I bathe?”
“Don’t forget to review that mission for me,” and with that he left. Note to self: ask how many baths everyone takes. ---- Nebra went to the entrance exam with Nozel. Solid was too busy being Solid… which meant I had to go with Rob and Curtis to Nairn to investigate rumors of Diamond Kingdom spies influencing commoners. Commoners upset with royalty? Not unusual but not something I wanted to deal with. I could not come up with anything brilliant to say to make them happy, handing out money felt like a facade, and how many times could I subject myself to be known as “the pretty one who hugs old men and kisses babies.” Oh, and there were the spy rumors. If there really were Diamond Kingdom spies we would probably have to fight them, and I don’t know if three of us in the middle of a populated area would be the best idea. Nonetheless, duty calls.
I made Rob and Curtis eavesdrop around the town while I went to the church to ask the sisters if they knew of anything suspicious going on. Of course Sister Theresa was not gonna let me off easy.
“Why are you asking me?”
“Because you live here.”
“Why do you think I would know anything?”
“I don’t know, because you try to protect these orphans.”
“Why hasn’t Fueggy come to visit me?”
“Do I look like I talk to Fuegoleon?”
“Did you at least bring a donation… for the children?”
“I always do.”
“Where is your husband?”
“Suffering at the exams, hopefully.”
“Why don’t you-”
“Sister, I appreciate the conversation but time is of the essence. If there are spies here we really need to take care of them before they cause physical harm.”
“Fine, but you’ll have to tell Fuegoleon to come visit us.”
“I’m sure he would be delighted to. Now, I know you were once a Magic Knight. What have you seen?”
“They meet at the bar and talk to the alcoholics, bless them, about uprising and taking down the Magic Parlament, attacking nobility and royalty, standing up to the Magic Knights.”
“Oh good. Just the kind of thing I wanted to deal with alone.”
“You’re going to deal with them now?”
“I might as well! Thank you, Sister.”
I didn’t run into Curtis or Rob on my way to the bar so I decided to go in alone. Didn’t make an effort to take off my Silver Eagles robe or House Silva insignia, which I will later regret, no doubt.
I walked up to the bar and ordered a beer. It became so quiet you could hear everyone breathing.
“Are you sure you want a beer… your highness,” the bartender asked. There was some poison in his words.
“Yes, please,” I smiled and dropped a few too many coins on the counter, while also taking a seat on the bar stool.
He comes back and sets the stein in front of me.
“Thank you,” he watches me take my first sip. “Is something wrong bartender?”
“Yes,” a voice from behind me says. I turn around and see three Diamond Kingdom spies and that the rest of the patrons have left. Uh oh.
“Oh hey, I was actually looking for you,” I get my grimoire out, “Would you mind coming with me?”
“Like hell I would,” they also pull out their grimoires. I’m not good at combat when I also have to be careful about civilians. Before I can cast a spell they attack me and I’m forced to be defense. I used my magic to create a barrier to protect me from attacks, but one of the Diamond guys grabs it and absorbs my mana, sucking it out of my hand.
“Well, that isn’t good.”
He gets close enough to grab my chin and forces me to look at him. Ew.
“You’ll be a nice prize back home,” he continues to suck my mana out of me, “I’m really sorry we have to do it this way. I’ll make sure to keep enough that you live… then we can have some real fun.” Double ew.
Against my better judgement I try to go for a physical attack and bang my head into his. He lets go of me and I get a raging headache plus blood from breaking our skin, but I don’t have enough mana now to move and I fall to my knees.
“Oh, you want it to be that way huh,” he grabs my wrist and pulls me up. I’m dizzy and seeing black dots. Next time, don’t slam your head so hard into some guys jaw, you fucking idiot.
I can feel a mana empowered fist go into my side before the dizziness gets to be too much and I black out.
----
I feel cold, silky sheets all around me. I’m too tired to open my eyes. I can sense some bodies are around me.
“She’ll be fine, she just needs rest.”
Oh I recognize that voice, thank god, those creeps didn’t take me.
“Captain, we didn’t know the spies were there and ready to attack or we wouldn’t have split up-”
“No one knows what mages from other kingdoms will do, what’s important is that you were able to stop them. The Wizard King is interrogating them as we speak.”
“Captain.”
“You two are dismissed. Thank you.”
“Captain Nozel,” I hear the doctor speak again, “I wasn’t able to fully heal her broken bones, I’ll come back tomorrow to finish the treatment. They’ll be sore and she-”
“That’s fine, she can be sore.”
Tough love, oh how I missed you husband.
“Alright, I’ll take my leave as well.”
I could feel him staring at me and decided I did not want to deal with whatever he was plotting so I went back to sleep.
When I opened my eyes again it was dark out. Someone had put me into a silk nightgown… God, my body is sore. And it’s fucking cold in here. I reached out to grab more bedding to snuggle into and hit my hand against something fleshy instead. I looked over and saw Nozel sleeping next to me. Um? Excuse me, this is my room. We have a deal. Actually… I’m cold, he’s radiating heat… I’ll just cuddle into him.
I don’t allow myself to think anymore before I lay my head on his chest and reach across his body with my arm. He doesn’t flinch so I know he’s in deep sleep and will not say shit to me about this.
I guess through the night we had managed to get closer because when I woke up my legs were tangled with his and his arms were holding me. I laid listening to his heart beat. Please don’t wake up, please don’t ruin it. I had to enjoy my affection in short lived moments so I always pray he doesn’t stop once he starts.
But I live in an unfortunate reality where Nozel does wake up. I turn my head to stare at him. He stares back. Now either I hit my head so hard I became stupid or I am in a coma. Because instead of getting off I lean my lips towards his and kiss him. And he kisses me back. Something he does like once every 3 years.
He puts his hands in my hair and deepens the kiss. Oh I like this. He flips us so that I'm on my back and he’s hovering over me. I’m feeling very, very hot. I put my hands on his cheeks. He doesn’t pause so I take it as a sign to continue and let my hand drop down to the top of his shirt and pull on it. He breaks away.
“That’s enough for now,” he gets up from the bed and I groan. Dammit.
“Why?”
“Because I said so. Owen will be here shortly to look over your injuries again. I would advise getting dressed or putting on a nightdress that is… less revealing.”
“Who cares about Owen? I want whatever that just was.”
“Perhaps another time,” Nozel was at the door that connected his room to mine, “Now when I come back with Owen please be presentable.”

English Translation of Novel 3: Chapter 2 – The Man Known as Julius (Part 1 of 2)
Here’s the first half of the last untranslated chapter from Book of Yuno! This one features Julius, Yuno, and Bell taking care of an orphaned baby boar. It’s adorable and also a little heartbreaking! Charlotte and Jack also get to meet the lil’ guy!
Also, aside from a few tweaks at the beginning, this translation is appended to the translation of the first few pages that the Black Clover discord was kind enough to supply to me. I didn’t see any translation errors when I scanned through it and I liked the writing style of whoever did those first few pages, so a part of this translation also comes from the generous soul who had started this translation before me.
--- The Man Known as Julius (Part 1) ---
Julius Novachrono.
He is a man who needs no introduction, reigning over the Order of Magic Knights as the Wizard King. The entire Order moves at his command, protecting the peace of Clover Kingdom both day and night.
He himself possesses no small degree of combat ability, stationed at the top of the Order as he is, and he has led his troops to victory through countless battles. Even after ascending to his current position as the Wizard King, he continues to find his way to the battlefield, demonstrating impressive skills in all areas.
He is the hero of the Clover Kingdom, a source of inspiration for all Magic Knights – No, for all the Kingdom’s citizens.
That's just the sort of person Julius is.
And yet, despite all of that......
"All right, all right!! Sorry I'm late~ I brought plenty of feed for you!"
At this very moment, that inspirational figurehead to all the Kingdom was – Julius was…..
"C'mon, you gotta eat up! I got lotsa food for you! A ha ha! Now now, no shoving! Take your time!"
......grinning from ear to ear and speaking in baby-talk with a soft, sweet tone......
"Oh gosh, you're TOO cute! Seriously, you're way too cute, Graham! I feel like when I'm talking to you, my manner of speaking just becomes shamefully bad...... Well, whatever! Not like there's anyone else around to hear, huh?"
…….to a baby boar as he delivered its feed.
Staying hidden as he watched, Yuno managed to keep a straight face on the outside, but internally, he was shaking. Bell, clearly shaken as well, was thinking exactly the same thing as him: They weren’t quite sure what they were looking at, but they knew they had just witnessed something pretty damn crazy.
How did they stumble across such a crazy sight? Fret not, it won't take long to explain.
That day, Yuno and Bell had been on patrol near the outskirts of Tonan, a town in the Common Realm. A group of bandits had been staging raids in the area as of late, and it was rumored that one of the bandits possessed an "Original Sin" grimoire. Thus, Magic Knights were being sent out in pairs to patrol the area in shifts.
Yuno and Bell found themselves on duty that day, and after finishing up their patrol with a Knight from another squad, they traded off with the pair who had come to relieve them and slipped away into a forest just a short walk from the town's borders.
They were here to train in preparation for the Royal Knights Selection Exam, which would be held a few days from now.
After the "hot springs training camp" put on by Mereoleona Vermillion (which was one heck of a euphemism for forced mountain climbing and attempted murder), Yuno had mastered "Mana Skin", the technique wherein the user continuously channels a fixed amount of magical energy and uses it to protect their body or increase their physical ability.
However, if he wanted to pass the Selection Exam, if he wanted to demonstrate his skill over Asta, he needed to take his abilities up another notch... no, another two notches if he could manage it.
And so, at every opportunity he could find between missions, Yuno slipped away in search of a secluded little enclave to train.
On this particular day, while on the hunt for a bit of privacy, he came across a hut standing beside a small pond. From the outside, it looked like a long-abandoned cabin, but the footprints he found near the entrance were fresh. Was this the bandits' hideout......? Only one way to find out. Taking care not to be noticed, Yuno silently approached the cabin.
However, it was then that he noticed a young boar with its body and legs wrapped in gauze. This, he found quite suspicious, but before he could move any closer to inspect, he caught sight of someone heading straight for the cabin using Flight Magic.
Panicking, Yuno dove into the bushes to hide, peeking out to see just who had arrived…...
"Gra~~~ham~~~ Were you a good little boy? Were you? Were you??"
Speaking in the most babyish voice Yuno had ever heard, it was none other than Julius Novachrono who came descending from the heavens. Upon landing, he approached the cabin, bearing feed for the boar, and removed his dirty bandages while stroking him gently......
Which brings us back to the present.
"Theeeeere there there! Now, let's get your bandages changed!"
Tearing their gazes from the sight of Julius letting loose with even more heinous baby talk, Yuno and Bell glanced at one another. Evidently, Julius was out here taking care of this boar. That much was obvious, but......
Bell dropped her voice, whispering softly to Yuno,
"…...Wh-what do we do, Yuno?"
"There's nothing for us to do," he returned shortly. "Because we didn't see anything, got it? Let's just head back."
That was best for all parties involved. Yuno had absolutely no desire to see Julius acting like that, and Julius probably wouldn't have wanted anyone to spot him out here either. Thankfully, Julius didn't seem to have noticed he was being watched, probably as much to do with the fact that Yuno had disguised their presence as the fact that Julius was absolutely enthralled with playing with the little boar and was paying little attention to his surroundings.
If he was going to make a break for it, it needed to be now. However, Bell leered with squinted eyes,
"...But, you know, that poor little thing really doesn't seem like he's enjoying the attention..."
This much Yuno could see. Actually, it was impossible not to notice. The little boar was squirming and squealing up a storm as Julius attempted to change his bandages, desperately attempting to flee. There was no mistaking that attitude as one of a fond pet.
"…...Neither one of us knows what's going on here. It's not our place to say anything."
"Yeah, I guess you're right…..."
"Plus......"
Yuno glanced back to Julius, who, despite the boar's fierce attempts to escape, was doing his best to see to its needs, and even looked happy doing so. Julius looked like he was having the time of his life, eyes bright with elation - just as he seemed to when he was talking about magic or chatting with the squad Captains he trusted so much. It was true that Yuno didn't want to get involved in whatever was going on here, but he also didn’t want to interrupt Julius when he was so utterly enthralled.
"Plus what?"
"Forget it. Let's go." With that, Yuno was about to stand up, but then......
"SQUEEEEEEAAAAAL!!"
The boar let out a particularly shrill scream, and Julius instantly drew back just as the boar released a huge burst of flame.
"W-what the heck is THAT?!"
"That boar...it must be a Flame Boar! They're a special breed that can use Fire Magic!"
A normal boar was one thing, but keeping an animal of this nature as a pet was forbidden…… though, that hardly mattered right now.
Yuno leapt from the bush, rushing to Julius's side. "Your Majesty! Are you all right?"
In retrospect, that had been rather stupid of him. After all, what could a Flame Boar possibly do that could in any way harm the Wizard King? It was patently clear he didn’t have a single scratch on him, no burns of any sort, and even the cabin itself remained safe from any flying sparks.
"......Yu-Yuno-kun........!?"
Julius's face was so red, he could have started spitting fire himself.
"H-h-how...how long--how long h-h-have you...been w-watching...me...?"
"I didn't see anything I didn't hear anything PLEASE EXCUSE ME, SIR!"
Yuno sputtered before promptly turning on his heel and darting off. It was a rather forcible retreat, admittedly, but he was convinced it was the best course of action. What had just transpired would only reflect badly on the both of them, so pretending it had never happened at all was for the best.
“W-wait! P-please hear me out!”
However, Julius chased after him, his expression desperate.
"W-wait! Please wait! There's something I'd like your help with!"
……And when the Wizard King said that to you...well, you really had to stop, didn't you?
“……So, this little one’s parents died, which is why you decided to take care of it here for the time being?”
After all that, Yuno and Bell were invited to sit on the bench in front of the cabin as Julius served them some tea and snacks. Both the tea and snacks looked rather extravagant, so Yuno couldn’t help but wonder if they were meant to bribe him to keep quiet. At the same time, Julius explained his circumstances to them.
“Yes. Well, in short, that is correct.”
As he watched Graham run around chasing butterflies, Julius continued,
“Not too long ago, I was passing by this area when I found two flame boars being attacked by bandits. Those were Graham’s parents.”
Bell grabbed a macaroon with both hands and stuffed it into her mouth as she asked Julius,
“Why did those bandits attack them? Were they hungry or something?”
“Flame boar fur has excellent heat resistance, so it’s sometimes used to make magic tools and the like. Because of that, it can be sold for a high price. Of course, that doesn’t make it right to kill them indiscriminately, so I rushed in to save them. I managed to capture the bandits, but…… it was already too late for Graham’s parents.”
On the outside, Yuno was expressionless as he nodded in agreement, but on the inside, he felt bitter. This was not an uncommon occurrence in areas that have been plagued by bandits. They indiscriminately kill, eat, and sell any animals unfortunate enough to live in their territory.
“Although he was injured, I at least managed to save Graham. However, I couldn’t just leave him, so I was going to drop him off at an animal shelter…... but no matter which shelter I tried, they all refused to take him.”
“Because it’s forbidden to keep a dangerous animal like a flame boar as a pet.”
Technically, if he made full use of his authority as the Wizard King, he would be able to force any facility to keep Graham. However, that would surely cause trouble for the breeders and the other animals they kept at the facility. As Yuno knew, Julius was not the sort of man who would do that. Julius shrugged lightly before replying,
“Right. That’s why I started taking care of him in secret. I’d like to keep him until he recovers from his injuries, at least.”
Julius replied as if to substantiate the explanation that Yuno reached.
“I see…...”
Yuno said as he nodded. Although Yuno came to agree with him, Julius felt a small pang of guilt. His story wasn’t a lie, but it was not the whole truth, either. That’s because if Julius had used his time magic, he could have cured Graham’s injuries in an instant. However, if he did that, then Graham would grow up with the mistaken assumption that injuries can be cured easily. Julius wanted to avoid clouding Graham’s worldview for the convenience of humans any more than it already has.
Coming back from that tangent, Julius continued,
“That’s why I was wondering if you could keep this a secret for me? If it became known that the leader of the Magic Knights broke the rules, there would be a lot of trouble.”
Particularly from Marx. If Marx found out, there was no telling what Marx might say to him. It was easy to imagine what awaited in his future……
“You were raising an unusual pet, huh……? That’s the kind of thing an extravagant bachelor with too much time and money on his hands would do! Stop playing around and get back to work!”
……And he would continue on and on like that.
Yuno lightly tilted his head, completely unaware of Julius’s troubles.
“Of course. It was never my intention to tell anyone, but…… wouldn’t it be better to take care of Graham somewhere else? Bandits might go after him again, and Magic Knights take turns coming here almost every day, so you might get spotted again.”
“……That’s true, but……”
Julius pointed to a large rock a short distance from the cabin. Placed in front of that rock were two bouquets of flowers. Sometimes, Graham would sit at that rock and squeal in a very particular way. Yuno has heard these squeals before. It was the sound flame boars make when they are trying to get their parents’ attention. In other words, that was where……
Julius saw that Yuno understood and nodded.
“That was where Graham’s parents were killed. I think that’s why…... Graham refuses to leave this place.”
For the second time that day, Yuno felt a bitterness in his heart.
“…...I was raised in a village, so I’ve seen animals like that before. Some baby animals won’t leave their parents’ side, even after their parents have died. That’s probably happening here, too.”
Even if you pull that baby animal away from its parents’ bodies by force, it will likely return. In the end, it will probably die, either from being targeted by other animals or from illness caused by being near a corpse. If Julius wasn’t protecting him, that’s probably what would have happened to Graham.
“I thought about using magic to move his parents’ corpses, but…… it would be a problem if Graham thought I was playing with them. In the end, I decided to bury them here.”
“……I see.”
Bell said, looking sorrowfully at Graham. She then clenched her hand into a little fist and said,
“Wizard King! You’re really something! It’s really cool that you’re willing to go so far for a single wild boar!”
“……Hey, Bell. You’re being rude.”
“Ha ha, I don’t mind, Yuno-kun. Miss Wind Spirit, I’m happy to hear you say that. By the way, can I try mixing your magic with mine? Just for a bit?”
“I’m Yuno’s, so no way! However, I kinda like you, so you’re allowed to call me Bell!”
Bell was being incredibly impertinent as she said this, but Julius’s response was simply to smile gently and say,
“That’s too bad. Well, I’m happy that I can call you by your name!”
He possesses great power, he shows tolerance toward anyone, and he holds compassion even for animals. That’s the kind of person Julius is. The kind of person Yuno - and Asta - were aiming to become was as grand as ever. Moreover, Yuno was only looking at a small part of the Wizard King. Despite this, he understood that the Wizard King was a grand existence. If he could see everything, just how grand would he be……? Even trying to imagine it made him feel overwhelmed.
‘Even so, someday I’ll…..!’
As such thoughts reignited in Yuno’s chest, Julius cleared his throat as if to move on to a new subject.
“This brings me to what I wanted to ask you…… Just as you said, this is not a good place to be raising an animal, and I’m also too busy to take care of Graham by myself……”
He appeared rather uncomfortable as he looked at Yuno and Bell.
“That is…… I know this is a selfish request, but you seem like you wouldn’t spill a secret, so…… could you maybe…… help me take care of Graham?”
‘I knew this was coming……,’ Yuno thought as he weighed his options. For Julius, it would make things quicker and easier if Yuno and Bell cooperate now that they’ve seen this place. However, keeping it a secret from the Order of Magic Knights was definitely going to be troublesome.
“Of course, I’m not asking you this as the Wizard King. I’m asking you as a person, so there’s nothing wrong with saying no. You’ll end up breaking the rules, too…… it would be troublesome for you if you get discovered, and you could run into trouble here, too.”
That’s right. If something were to happen here, he wouldn’t be able to get here in time to help Yuno. This was not a task one should carelessly take on.
“Of course. If you’re alright with us helping you, we would love to.”
“Right, of course you’d say no…… the Royal Knights Selection Exam is coming up and you have your own duties to…... WAIT, REALLY!?”
Julius had crestfallenly lowered his head, but then he raised his head back up in surprise and sputtered,
“Huh, a-are you sure!? You’re going to take on this task, just like that……?”
“Yes. I can do my duties as a Magic Knight here…... Plus, if I let a thought like “something bad might happen” stop me, then I’d never get anything done.”
The second half of what he said came from his own experiences as a child. In life, if you don’t do anything, then nothing will happen. He didn’t want that. If you find yourself unable to move because of all your negative thoughts, it’s sometimes necessary to just try doing whatever you want before thinking about what you should do. This was something he learned from watching that guy live his life. He wasn’t sure if this was one of those times, but, at the very least…...
“Also, you said that I would be breaking the rules, but I’m just helping you because I think that’s the right thing to do. I think that for most people, doing what they think is right would be the correct thing to do.”
……Yuno knew that he liked what Julius was doing. That’s why he was going to help him without worrying about problems that may or may not happen later. Wanting to support that idea, Bell whirled around Julius and said,
“That’s right! That’s absolutely right! Actually, it’s weird that you’re doing something so cool so sneakily by yourself! At the very least, you should let us help you!”
“You guys……”
Julius appeared a little surprised as he said this, but then,
“……I see. William truly is blessed with some good kids.”
He nodded as if he came to understand something before calmly smiling once more.
“Thank you, really! Well then, I’ll be counting on you two!”
Yuno bowed his head with a smile before looking around at his surroundings.
“Even so, it really is dangerous to be raising an animal here. If we don’t take measures soon, then……”
“Y-yeah…… You really are a good kid. You’re able to look at things pragmatically so quickly……”
Julius wanted to bask in the warm, snug atmosphere they just created for a little longer, but…… now wasn’t really the time for that. Julius grabbed a large sack that was left at a corner of the cabin and brought it to Yuno and Bell.
“I’ve already done something about that. I bought all sorts of magic tools for dealing with bandits or other Magic Knights.”
Julius pulled out one expensive-looking magic tool after another from the bag.
“Umm, this one is a jewel that keeps evil away. I’m pretty sure this one is a collar that seals away magical power. And this one is a magic tool that keeps others from being able to sense your mana, even if they use mana perception. Also, this one is…...”
As he pulled each tool out, he explained in detail what each one of them did with a huge grin on his face. Yuno and Bell, who felt nothing but respect for Julius just moments ago, started to think ‘This guy is kind of scary…….’. Just how much money and effort is he sinking into one wild boar? Bell whispered into Yuno’s ear,
“……Hey, Yuno. Is he one of those? He gave us all those reasons earlier, but…... maybe he’s just an old guy who wants to secretly raise a pet……?”
“Please don’t say that……. Just don’t.”
He may have sounded a little unconfident in his reply, but that’s not because he was starting to think the same thing Bell was thinking. Absolutely not.
“I read this in a book once, but unmarried bachelors in their 40’s tend to have a lot of money, and they want something to spend their money on, so they buy a pet. Then, that causes their paternal instincts to explode forth, so they end up spending even more money on it.”
“You’re talking about a normal unmarried bachelor in his 40’s. This man is the Wizard King. Don’t lump them together.”
“Hm? Yuno-kun, did you say something?”
“Nothing.”
And so, despite all his doubts and unease, his days taking care of Graham with Julius began.
 ----- The following morning -----
“Oh, Yuno-kun! Bell-kun! Thank you for taking care of him so early in the morning~”
Julius swooped down from the sky toward Yuno and Bell, who were training near the lake.
“Good morning. You’re up early too, your highness.”
“Yeah, I have a meeting to attend just before noon today, so I figured I’d stay here until then. What about you?”
“We have the day off today, so I’ve been training my magic by reinforcing the cabin and changing Graham’s bedding. Also, I think he’s still fine for now, but I was thinking that we should make a fence in preparation for when Graham becomes independent from his parents. It would be troublesome if he accidently wandered into one of the villages.
“……Y-yeah. You sure work fast. Adaptable, too.”
Julius said in surprise. From the start, Yuno was meticulous and diligent. He wanted to do as much as he could while he was here.
“Look, Graham! Your Daddy’s here!”
Bell said as she flew toward Graham, who was eating his feed in front of the hut. Julius had a questioning, but also happy expression on his face as he asked,
“……D-daddy?”
“Bell. Don’t call him weird names. It’s rude.”
“It’s fine, right? He’s practically acting like a surrogate dad!”
“Even so, calling him ‘Daddy’ is a little…...”
As Yuno and Bell continued, Julius’s face steadily became redder until he cleared his throat and interrupted,
“W-well, it’s fine, isn’t it? It feels a little uncomfortable to be called that, but it might be good for Graham. I’m not sure how I feel about it, though…..”
“Oh, well then I won’t call you that. I’m not going to force you to-
“Ah, no! Never mind! Let’s go with that!”
Julius interrupted before crouching down in front of Graham.
“Even so, you two are amazing for being able to feed Graham already. It took a lot of struggling on my part to get him to trust me enough to do that……”
Julius sounded a bit woeful as he said this. Yuno responded as he walked toward the hut,
“I’m not sure why, but animals have always liked me. Also, Bell is a wind spirit, so it might be easier for Graham to trust her over a human being. Actually……”
Yuno glanced at the tombstone for Graham’s parents as he continued,
“You began taking care of Graham right after his parents were killed. That would be the time when Graham would hate humans the most. The fact you managed to feed him and tend to his wounds despite that makes you even more amazing.”
It looked like Graham was putting up a lot of resistance yesterday when the Wizard King was changing his bandages, but that was probably just because his wounds still hurt. It’s not like Graham hasn’t opened his heart to him.
“The reason we’re able to get along with Graham right now is because of you, your highness. Isn’t the fact that Graham knows that not all humans are bad because you poured so much love into him?”
“Y-you think so? That would make me very happy, but……”
Julius sounded embarrassed as he replied before extending his hand toward Graham’s head.
“Graham~ It’s……. It’s Daddy. Daddy’s he-
“SQEEEA, SQEAAAL!”
CRUNCH
With full force, Graham chomped down on Julius’s fingers.
“……………”
A terribly awkward atmosphere arose between Julius and Yuno. In the meantime, Bell, who is incabable of reading the mood, tried her best to open Graham’s mouth as she reprimanded him.
“Hey, Graham! Stop that! You wouldn’t do that to me or Yuno, right!? It’s almost as if you don’t trust the Wizard King after all!”
Yuno went pale when he heard Bell utter the worst thing she could have possibly said, but Julius chided Bell with a stiff smile on his face.
“Ah, Ah ha ha! It’s fine, Bell-kun! I’m sure Graham’s just hungry!”
“What are you talking about!? Graham literally just ate!”
“Then, he’s probably just trying to play! Yeah! I’m sure he just wants to play with me!”
“Even so, he looks serious! It’s like he’s trying to bite your fingers off!”
“Bell! BELL! Just stop talking! Just stop!”
Unusually for him, Yuno raised his voice as he interrupted Bell, stopping her from uttering another word and gently pulling Julius’s fingers away from Graham. After that, Graham trotted away toward the lake to drink some water. Those hellish couple of seconds were finally over, but tears started to pool in Julius’s eyes.
‘Should I say something…..?’ Yuno thought, maybe about how Bell has a tendency to air-headedly stab people in the heart…… No, it was too late to say anything about that now, so he decided to change the subject as quickly as he could.
“……Could you explain to me what all the magic tools you bought do again?”
Yuno truly did want to hear his explanation again. Julius explained everything so quickly yesterday that he didn’t get all the details.
“S-sure…… There’s a lot of them, but I think this one’s the most important one.”
Julius said, returning back to his usual self as he led Yuno inside the cabin. There, a sparkling red jewel was hidden under Graham’s bedding.
“This is a high-grade magic tool that wards away evil. It creates a barrier with this jewel at the center, and people with evil souls can’t cross through its barrier. That’s the only thing I bought the first day I decided to raise Graham, and I’ve kept this tool active this whole time.”
Bell, who returned to Yuno’s shoulder, gasped in admiration as she looked at the jewel and said,
“That’s a high-grade magic tool for ya! It would be great if every household…… or at least every village had one of these!”
“Ha ha, if we could do that, it would make our jobs as Magic Knights a lot easier. However, this jewel’s range is not very large, and this isn’t widely distributed. Moreover, one strong attack is enough to break this jewel’s barrier, so it’s not so omnipotent as one might think.”
“However, it’s more than enough to protect Graham from those bandits, right?”
Julius nodded at Yuno’s words and turned toward Graham, who was currently bathing in the lake. Around Graham’s neck was a collar with a nameplate attached.
“The next important tool is the collar I bought yesterday. That collar seals away magic. As long as he wears that, Graham won’t be able to use magic, so even if another Magic Knight finds us, they would think that he’s just an ordinary boar.”
Julius’s expression stiffened a bit before continuing.
“Well, not being found at all would be the best outcome, and hardly anyone would have any reason to come here, but…... just like you did, it’s possible that somebody could wander here by chance.”
After the three of them reflected on the “major accident” that happened yesterday, Yuno swiftly returned to the main subject and asked,
“……I see. What about the other tools?”
Following Yuno’s train of thought, Julius quickly began to explain the other tools.
“The other ones are magic tools which conceal our presence, make our mana less perceptible, and other things of that nature. Well, I’ll go ahead and explain what they all do in detail, and…… hm?”
Before he could finish talking, his expression suddenly became grim, and his gaze sharpened as he looked toward the direction of the village. Yuno looked in the same direction.
“……Somebody’s coming.”
“Yeah. I feel two sources of mana heading towards us. For now, let’s hide in the cabin.”
The two swiftly moved toward the cabin, but Bell looked at Graham and exclaimed,
“Wait! Is it alright to leave Graham like this!? We should all hide together!”
“No. We wouldn’t be able to make it in time. For the time being, let’s observe the situation. If something happens, we’ll all leave.”
Julius countered as they slipped into the cabin. Before long, two figures emerged from the forest……
“Kah kah! Look~ There’s nothing here. There’s nobody!”
The Captain of the Green Mantis, Jack the Ripper……
“How strange. I definitely felt powerful mana coming from here earlier……”
……And the Captain of the Blue Roses, Charlotte Roselei.
Two Magic Knights…... two Magic Knight Captains, no less, set foot on the lake shore. Judging by what they were saying, they must have sensed either Yuno’s or Julius’s presence. They probably noticed Julius’s mana when he flew here.
‘To think two bigshots like these would show up,’ Yuno thought, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.
“Why are Captains doing a mundane task like patrolling……?”
“…….Because the Royal Knights Selection Exam will be held soon. Even if it only helps a bit, Captains and Vice-Captains have been handling some of the routine tasks so that their squad members can focus on training for it.”
Julius explained calmly, but internally, his heart was pounding. It would be bad if they were found out by ordinary Magic Knights, but there was no mistaking that being found out by a Captain would be even worse. They nervously held their breaths in the cabin as they heard Charlotte say in a commanding tone of voice,
“Just in case, let’s split up and search the area.”
“Are you kidding me~ Damn, I was planning to get wasted at a bar until our shift ended.”
After that brief exchange, Charlotte began to trace the perimeter of the lake while Jack began investigating inside the forest, appearing very bored as he did so. Seeing this, Yuno frowned as he turned toward Julius.
“……What should we do? At this rate, we’ll be found any moment now.”
“We’re okay. Like I was saying earlier, I have a magic tool running that dulls other people’s mana perception abilities, so they won’t be able to sense our mana. I also have another tool running right now that inhibits other people’s ability to notice our presence. In other words, right now, they won’t be able to sense our presence nor our mana.”
‘If you have that much money to spend on magic tools, maybe you should put some of that money toward the Magic Knights,’ Yuno thought. In any case, if that’s all true, then their presence probably won’t be discovered. The problem was……
“……Hm? What’s this? A baby boar? What is it doing in a place like this……?”
Just as Yuno feared, Charlotte spotted Graham, and began to slowly make her way toward him. Surprised by her presence, Graham froze stiff. While he remained frozen, Charlotte crouched down to meet Graham at eye level.
“……So, you’re getting your wounds treated? You have a collar, too. Is someone feeding you here…..?”
She said as she extended her hand toward Graham’s collar.
‘Please don’t take his collar off…….!’ all three of them prayed as they watched her from inside the cabin.
“……..Graham? That’s what is carved here…… I see. So, your name is Graham?”
She muttered before looking around at her surroundings. It looked like she made particular note of whether Jack was still deep in the forest. After confirming that nobody else was around, she turned toward Graham once more, and……
“……Graham, come here. I won’t hurt you, so go ahead and sit on my lap~”
With great difficulty, but also great tenderness, she raised Graham up and placed him on her lap. Then with an innocent smile, much like the smile of a young girl, she hugged Graham’s body.
“Wow…… this is amazing. I though boar fur would be rough and scratchy, but it’s actually really fluffy. I wonder if it’s because you’re a baby. Tee hee, this feels nice. You’re so cute……”
“…………”
“You’re so small. Are you eating properly? I know, I’ll find something good for you to eat! What would you like to eat? Hm? I’ll buy anything you want~”
“…………”
The three inside the cabin continued to watch Charlotte dote on Graham, stiffly turning their heads toward each other. It was a different outcome then what they were expecting, but it was a crazy sight indeed.
“H-hey…… Yuno-kun……?”
This wasn’t the time to be asking this, but Julius couldn’t help but ask.
“……D-did I…… look like that when you found me……?”
“Quiet, your highness. It looks like Captain Jack has returned.”
Yuno brushed off Julius’s question and turned his gaze toward the forest. There, Jack was lumbering his way back. Charlotte noticed his presence, putting Graham down and standing back up on her feet. Her face was a bit red, so she tried to hide this with her hand as she asked him,
“……H-how was it, Jack? Did you find anyone?”
“Nope~ Not a single soul. Kah kah. It must’ve been your imagination.”
“……Maybe. It’s possible that Grah……. No, it’s possible that this injured boar’s owner came to check on him, and then headed home soon after.”
Charlotte left it at that and promptly started back toward the village.
“Anyway, we now know that no one else is here. Let’s return to the village and buy some feed…… no, let’s just go back to the village.”
“Huh? Ah, hey!”
She didn’t respond to Jack’s voice, opting instead to hurry into the forest as if she had some great mission to fulfill.
“Damn, what’s with her……? Anyway, I feel tired just being here. I feel like my physical strength and magical power is withering away. I wonder if some weird magic was cast here.”
Hearing Jack talk to himself, Yuno tilted his head in confusion.
‘What is he talking about? At the very least, I don’t feel any symptoms like that…...”
He turned toward Julius, searching for an answer from him. Julius’s reply was a little awkward as he explained,
“It’s probably the jewel that repels people with evil souls. Maybe that’s what happens when it only affects you halfway……?”
‘……I see. That Magic Knights Captain is recognized as a “halfway evil soul” by the jewel.’
Not knowing that this was the cause, Jack looked around as he muttered,
“Come to think of it, she mentioned there was a boar, but I don’t see it…… Ah, there it is.”
His eyes sharpened with a glint as they lowered toward Graham. Graham jumped in surprise as the three in the cabin watched the situation closely, feeling very different from when they were watching Charlotte. They were pretty sure that Jack wouldn’t get violent with Graham, but he might treat him roughly. That would be unpardonable. If it came to that, they would have no choice but to come out of hiding and stop him. They tensely watched over the situation to see which way it would go, but…...
“……What is he doing? Neither of them have moved an inch……”
Just as Yuno said, Jack was looking Graham in the eye with what seemed like no intention to move whatsoever. Because he was afraid, Graham also didn’t move, so it looked as if time had stopped for them both.
Bell hummed as she pretended to push up imaginary glasses,
“…...It’s just like when a bad wolf happens upon an abandoned puppy and the two come to a mutual understanding. Like, “So, you’re on your own, too…..?”, or something.”
“But he’s not on his own. He has a collar and bandages, so that much should be obvious.”
Yuno’s rebuttal was immediate, but Bell continued to dub over the other two with a hushed voice.
“I could save you, take you in as my henchman, but that would be too easy. If I do that, you’re gonna think that life is easy for as long as you live. It ain’t easy. Life is…… never easy.”
“That’s the kind of conversation two human beings would have. Also, don’t you think your image of Captain Jack is a little off?”
Yuno shot Bell down again, but then Jack headed toward the shoals of the lake and caught a fish using his Slash Magic. After that, he threw it next to Graham. Without skipping a beat, Bell continued,
“Whoops, my mistake…… I accidentally caught too many fish. Throwing them away would surely anger the gods, so I’ll give some to you. Now, young lad…… live, and grow up to be strong…….”
“Okay, that whole “gods” thing is really out of character for him. Just stop……”
“Well, I don’t know if he’d say it quite like that, but it looks like she more or less got it right…... At the very least, it appears that he won’t get rough with Graham.”
While the three of them were talking, Jack left the vicinity. After watching Jack’s figure disappear into the forest, Julius let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Whew, that scared me….. From now on, we should use magic tools that hide our magic power when we come here.”
“……You’re right. Actually, if you could find a magic tool that makes us invisible, that would be great.”
‘If we had that, we would’ve been able to escape before seeing all that,’ Yuno thought to himself as he came out of the hut with Julius.
“Are you okay, Graham? You must’ve been so scared!”
Bell said as he flew toward Graham. Graham squealed happily and started skipping about. Watching Graham behave so cheerfully, Julius had a wry smile on his face.
“Ah ha ha. I thought he’d be afraid, but he’s surprisingly okay. Have you gotten used to being around humans?”
“He might be able to relax around people who seem to hold good intentions.”
……Of course, those two seemed a little too interested in Graham, so there was another problem they had to worry about – the possibility that they may return. However, there was nothing for them to do about that other than take appropriate measures when the time comes. As Yuno came to this conclusion, Julius squatted in front of Graham and extended his hand toward the fish Jack caught.
“Isn’t this great, Graham? You have a fish! Daddy will cut it into pieces to make it easier for you to-
“SQUEAL! SQUEAAAL!”
CRUNCH!
At that moment, Graham chomped down on Julius’s fingers with all his might.
“………….”
 — To be continued in Part 2 —
Julius is such a softie and I love every minute of it. Spoil that baby boar!
Charlotte’s reaction was expected (and perfectly understandable as I would love to hug Graham too), but I can’t say I saw Jack’s coming. It was…... interesting. It’s funny that his soul is considered half-evil, though.
I’m glad to be back to translating Book of Yuno again. The Black Bulls are fun, but there’s something refreshing about having the focus on a character outside of their group. Maybe it’s because he’s so introverted, but Yuno feels very natural as a book protagonist. It’s also funny to see how often the novel essentially says “he had a neutral expression on the outside, but inside he felt *insert intense emotion here*”.

Hi Lyra, may I have a Yuno x reader drabble, please? The reader is also from Hage and can see the future through dreams, and (before the Magic Knights Entrance Exam) Yuno keeps bugging her to "confirm" that he's going to be the Wizard King and she messes with him by never answering seriously.
Hiya anon! I hope you enjoy this and I’m sorry its taken so long (the holidays I swear 😭!). I also apologize for it being so short but I hope you still like it 💕!
Word Count: 585
Warnings: None
———
Yuno let out a soft yet tired sigh as he sat down on top of the grassy hill he and his childhood friends/foster siblings would meet at. When he, Asta, and Y/N had made the decision to leave Hage and become Magic Knights they had made a small promise to meet at this site at least once a month to check on each other and to see how they were doing with their training.
“ Aw you beat me here!” Y/N pouted as she walked towards the dark haired mage, he let out a soft chuckle as he turned his head to look at her.
“ Well,be a little faster next time.” He teased as Y/N let out a ‘hmph’ before sitting next to him, he knew that Asta would probably be a little late since he knew that he wasn’t very good at keeping track of time.
The two mages sat in silence for a while, it was sorta funny how Yuno and Y/N didn’t really have to talk but when it was Y/N and Asta you couldn’t get the two of them to stop talking even for a second. Maybe that's why they were all such good friends, because she could match both of their energies easily.
“ You’re not going to ask me today?” Y/N asked suddenly as she closed the book she had brought with her. Yuno frowned in confusion for a moment before it registered what she was talking about and he let out a soft chuckle.
“ I was planning on letting you finish your chapter first before I asked, but since you brought it up.” Yuno said as he leaned back on his hands and looked at her. “ Am I going to be the Wizard King?”
Y/N let out a soft laugh before she set her book aside, everyday since they made their decision Yuno had been pestering her to confirm that he was going to be Wizard King and every time, she gave him a less than serious answer.
“ I dunno, maybe Father Orsi will be the next Wizard King, or even Sister Lily could! Heck maybe the next Wizard King won’t even be human!” She answered teasingly, Yuno groaned and laid back on the grass with a soft ‘thud’.
“ Seriously? Are you ever going to answer me seriously?” Yuno asked with a small pout, Y/N giggled before laying back on the grass next to him.
“ I dunno I’m having too much fun messing with you at the moment.” She giggled again as he made a tutting sound.
“ But honestly?” Y/N started seriously as she stared up at the blue sky. “ I don’t know who’s going to be the Wizard King. Just because I see the future in my dreams doesn’t mean it’ll come true. The future is never set in stone, y'know.” She added before looking at the dark haired mage again.
“ I know it’s just, it’d be nice to get a little heads up.” He muttered with a sigh.
“ I know. But don’t you think this is something you’d like to keep a surprise? So that way when you do become the Wizard King it’ll feel like you earned it based on your hard work instead of it being preordained?” She shrugged. “ Just some food for thought.” She added, giving him a light hearted smile.
“ Hm, maybe.” Yuno agreed with a shrug. “ Either way, I’m sure we’ll find out soon who’ll be the Wizard King. Me or Asta.”

Thank you guys for reading and I hope you all have a good day 🥰!

Any Grey Deer Days headcanons?
I’m sure you meant Nacht but I threw in some ones that included Julius, William, and Yami just to be safe! :)
Tumblr media
-During his days as a Grey Deer Nacht was more jovial and happy. He spoke easier with others and was not as judgmental, and all around was a more positive person with an optimistic outlook on life.
-He enjoyed training with others to strengthen not only his magic skills but his fellow magic knights as well. He trained with Yami since both of their magic was on the darker side, but Nacht preferred to train with someone else if possible.
-Nacht didn’t like Yami while they were in the Grey Deer either, but he was more willing to be around him and work with him if necessary than he is as vice captain of the Black Bulls.
-Nacht and William were good friends. They were both seen as outsiders of the community because of their magic type/looks, so they shared a mutual understanding of each other.
-Nacht and Julius got along pretty well, although Nacht would find Julius’ obsession with Magic tedious to deal with sometimes.
-William and Yami got along well too, and their friendly rivalry enabled them to get stronger, especially when they worked together in battle.
-Julius loved being the captain of the Grey Deer and finding new magic and mages. He was always the loud annoying captain that got way too into it at the Magic Knight’s Entrance Exam. He was also always finding mages on random trips and bringing them back to join his squad, much to the displeasure of the other Magic Knight’s captains and the Wizard King.
-Yami didn’t really care much about being a Magic Knight in the way that others do. He did it for the ability to pass his limits, the training to learn from Julius, and the free food.
-William was the Grey Deer everyone loved. The ladies swooned for him. He 100% was the Grey Deer everyone wanted to give things to and they all wanted him to be the one to come and save or help them. He’s so soft.

Ace’s has triple bangs. His hair tends to be wavy or curly depending on the shampoo he uses though. Ace’s pink eyes are probably the most fascinating feature about him.

Personality
Due to the bullying Ace received from the other noble children Ace has beocme an insecure individual gaining a low self-esteem at a such a young age often getting intimidated by nearly anyone. He tends to get clingy in fields of defenselessness one leading example would be at royal banquets, Ace would always hide underneath Nebra’s dress throughout the entire banquet. Always having his guard up he overthinks nearly any of his movements afraid to disappoint anyone and often needs something to fiddle with. A trait Ace holds is determination, according to Asta, Ace holds more determination than he could of had, a case to prove it would be going up against a devil being 11 to protect the clover castle. However Ace starts to change when meeting Helreignn he slowly becomes more confident in his skills.
Traits
Determination
Good heart
Emotional
Kindness
Selflessness
Self Indulgence
Stubborn
Observant
Relationships
Family
Nebra Silva
Nebra has been the closest to Ace’s heart since skin to skin contact. No matter when or what these two would always have ball arts and crafts, bath time, studying time, his mummies arms were the warmest to him. Through the bullying of the noble children they would call him the “abusers child” this would be the time Ace found out about his mummy and Solid abused Noelle for 15 years at first believing this was nonsense to him until he asked the question. Soon Ace accepted that his mummy had change and the two reconnected their bond.
Zora Silva
Zora had introduced Ace to commoner life when he was a toddler and taught him the importance of that money isn’t everything, Ace is grateful for all the important lessons Zora taught him because without them Ace would just be another arrogant royal. The relationship between Zora and Ace is healthy. Zora would always supported Ace when he was in lows and even talk about his glorious adventures of being a supermage until he fell asleep.
Josslyn Silva
The relationship between Josslyn and Ace has its highs and lows. Ace knew from a young age how intimidating his sister could be and due to the bulllying Ace sorta of grew to have be frightened of his sister knowing that she could do the same thing to him. On one ocassion Josslyn saw Ace getting laughed at by other noble children however she did nothing about it, Ace assumed Josslyn didn’t loved him. This was never the case Josslyn had always cared for Ace knowing how fragile he is and feels ashamed to be called a “sister” for never standing up to the bullies
Nozel Silva
Ace never liked Nozel. Ace can remember memories of his mother and Nozel fighting day and night. Ace would always get nervous when interacting with Nozel afraid that he would take out his anger on him.
Solid Silva
Ace dosen’t have a problem with Solid knowing what he had done in the past was not okay he has learned to accept his past. Solid would always make Ace smile and bring out his inner child with his sarcastic humour.
Noelle Silva
Ace thinks of Noelle as an inspiration and often wonders what strength it took to become such a powerful magic knight. At times he would still ponder why she looked so much like his grandmother. Overall Ace adores Noelle and loves seeing her out in the battlefield and is proud to carry the same last name as her. Sometimes Ace goes to Noelle for love advice.
Asta
Ace is the willcarrier of Asta. Being the closest to him in the family other than his parents. Ace loves hanging onto Asta’s arms like a monkey even spending some days sitting on his lap doing cool wizard king duties as well as following him around, one time Ace joined Asta for the magic knight entrance exam. Figuring Ace was a devil vessel Asta couldn’t be more excited to be train him the guy smiled liked an idiot knowing he was following in captain Yami’s footsteps. Starting to train underneath the strongest magic knight Ace was over the moon and couldn’t be more ready. Overall Ace’s views Asta as someone he can relax and be himself, Ace dosen’t know what he wants to be in the future but with the help of Asta he knows he can overcome anything.
Haskell Silva
Haskell is the few among his family members were he doesn’t mind relaxing around, Haskell is someone he can always rely on and tell anything to him. Having an age gap of 9 years, Haskell was in his royal studies but he made sure to visit Ace in the nursery and play games, one of their favourite games was “teacher” when one would play teacher and the other one played “student”. Ace sees Haskell as a kind, funny and warm person who knows his right and wrongs another characteristic Ace liked about Haskell was his magic affinity, Star magic. Star magic was an attribute Ace would of loved to have.
Acier Silva
Fom a young age Ace was sure to know who were his grandparents. Being the grandson of the dancing princess of the battlefield was a huge honour to him. Ace heard stories of his grandmother from the seniors of his family and magic knight would always dreamed of seeing her on the battlefield , fighting, protecting all of it sounded exciting and yet remarkable, yes he did imagine at some stages that Noelle was Acier but he never told a soul.
Zara Ideale
Similar to Acier, Ace would of loved to meet his grandfather though sadly he passed way too early. Despite all the negativity it was good to know that his grandfather had a such an influence on the magic knights and idolise kinghts like them, knights who have a strong sense of justice and pledge thmselves to the kingdom.
Liebe
Ace considers Liebe as apart of the family. He views him as someone he can relate too often going to him for advice though Liebe soon distance himself because of the life energy raidainting of a devil dwelling within Ace.
Fearsome three/Light Traid
Karra Marron
Ace have been crushing on Karra for years the reason behind it haven’t be reavealed yet. These two have been close since diaper days often spending their time playing tag in the fields or talking in general. When Ace started forming a crush on Karra he started turning red and becoming nervous to even be in the same room as her though overall Ace sees Karra one of the toughest girls he knows thinking Karra has the potential to against the world and would risk his own life to protect her.
Mirage Adlai
Mirage is Karra’s only male friend his age and the two have been the best of bros since their first meeting. Ace can’t help himself but laugh whenever Mirage goes into “Grey mode” to him it’s like watching a mirror or so he finds it funny or dissponinting. Both dealing with Karra’s antics Mirage and Ace often teaming up forming the most motherly duo in clover history. Mainly Ace is lucky to have Mirage to stick around with him for so many years he dosen’t nescessarily see him as a rival, well not yet.
Others
Helreignn Lokadóttir
Ace meets Helreignn in his shapeshift form at the start of White Clover at first Ace is intimadted by his phrases thing but overtime Ace grows to be more curious about the man that has been dwelling within him for him for years, having questions about the underworld, the devil king, white devil, why did he choose him, etc, etc.
Genji
Ace can trust Genji with his life. The two of them are really close often in his fox form Genji would provide Ace warmth without thinking he would notice but he did. Ace is amazed by the strength he had to hold on for over 5 centuries grateful for entering his life.

Where the Fire Lilies Grow
Content: SFW!
It’s time for the Royal Knights Exam! This was supposed to be just one chapter, but it stretched into two...I’ll have the second one ready soon 😅
In the next one there will be a mention of another person’s amazing and beautiful OC and some more hints towards Mereoleona!! I’m very excited for it!!
< Previous | Next >
Chapter 3: The Tribulations
“I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love.”
Leo Tolstoy
The days following the announcement of the Royal Knights exam were filled with hustle and bustle. Every participant was training rigorously amidst their normal missions, and Tani was no exception. Since the exam was to be held in the same amphitheater as the Magic Knight entrance exams, she assumed it was going to be a series of duels. This meant she had to win a fight against someone on her own. Common bandits were not a problem for Tani - her skill with a sword came most often as a surprise to them, and she usually had one or two of Luka’s sculpted jackals helping her. In addition, she had been practising binding magic recently in hopes of being able to at least contain people. The situation was different with another Magic Knight though. She knew three other knights from Azure Deer were participating: Fragil, Francis and Eric. If she had to go against them, she would be in trouble. Fragil’s snow magic was a captivating trap that dulled the senses, but could also be used for healing. If the battle would prolong with both of them trying to recover from each other’s blows, the gentle snow mage would likely take the win. Tani did not have as much mana as her. Eric, on the other hand, was an offensive sand mage. Tani had only occasionally seen the brunette man - he was as distant as most Azure Deer’s knights - but she knew that his magic could be surprisingly quick. It could drain some magic attributes, making it possible for him to kill the plants she’d conjure. She’d have the easiest time going against Francis - his attribute was water, which he manipulated for fluid movement and powerful torrents. She hoped she wouldn’t have to go against them. Her every night was restless that week, bouncing between aching muscles, worrisome scenarios and - and Mereoleona Vermillion, the intriguing new captain of the Crimson Lion Kings. Tani knew no one from the squad, and she dared not to inquire too much from Icree. She hadn’t even gotten one glance of the woman since the festival. Of course, she denied to herself that the walks to the capital would have had anything to do with catching a glimpse. Of course not. She just had grown bored of walking in the forest.
On the day of the exam, Tani walked the familiar cobbled streets of her hometown towards the amphitheater. She had not mentioned the exam to her family in her last letter. She selfishly wanted to tell them only after she knew if she was picked or not. If she wasn’t chosen, why worry them with news of such a dangerous mission? If she was - well, then she’d have to hope they’d understand. As Tani entered the stone amphitheater, she could hear the murmurs of people talking to each other. There was quite the crowd. Knights from all squads were gathered to participate. Royals, nobles and commoners, all wanting to unite for protecting the realm. Tani moved to the sides, her gaze searching for Fragil. Eventually her eyes landed on a group of people standing together: a black-haired woman dressed in a long, white dress with another dark-haired man, all clothed in black tunic and a long cape. Next to them was a brunette man with an aqua-coloured tunic. Fragil waved to her happily, while Francis and Eric merely nodded.
“I’m glad you came as well,” Fragil said softly, her smile honest and cheerful.
Eric looked less happy next to her. His round features were rather sullen, as if he wanted to be elsewhere. Tani couldn’t blame him. They all knew each other, but only on the level of acquaintances.
“”Do you know what kind of an exam it’s going to be?” Tani asked, answering the smile nervously.
All three of them shook their heads.
“I don’t have the faintest clue,” Fragil admitted, looking around. “Nor have I heard anyone else mention anything either.”
They looked around themselves, as if they could find some kind of a sign that would tell them what they’d have to do. They found none - however, a voice coming from the balcony snapped them all to attention. The Wizard King Julius Novachrono had appeared on a balcony. By him was one of his advisors, the serious-looking Marx Francois. His appearance and name were the only things Tani really knew about him. He was a man, shorter than the Wizard King, with light blue bangs and hair cupping his face. He was often by the Wizard King’s side, aiding him with the matters of the realm. Behind the two, the Royal King Augustus Kira Clover XIII stepped forward. Tani’s eyes narrowed. She could not understand why the man forced his way into this, as it was none of his business. Everyone knew the Wizard King was behind all of this.
“The exam will consist of a team competition!” the King announced pompously, his voice echoing from the walls. “The rules are simple: protect your own team’s crystal and destroy the other team’s crystal. The first team to do this wins!”
Tani glanced at the others in surprise. A team competition? It made no sense to her. If they wanted teams, they should’ve told the squads to send teams. As the King hesitated to tell the reason for that, Julius Novachrono stepped in.
“In battles against the Eye of the Midnight Sun, brigades will have to work together,” he explained calmly. “We thought this would be the best way to measure cooperation and strategy skills.”
Tani shifted nervously. She wasn’t a strategist by any means, she had always let Icree do it for her. Now it came to stab her in the back, metaphorically. She knew very little people outside of her own squad, and had not needed to often cooperate with them in battle. She wished Icree would have been there. The advisor of the King moved his hand and conjured a giant screen with grouped up names, clearly visible for everyone in the amphitheatre. Tani’s gaze jumped from group to group, seeking her own name. It took her a while to find it among the others.
[Adrastea Dnia Gamma Roon Tani Chartreuse]
Somewhere next to her, Fragil sighed.
“It seems that I am with the Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn,” she said quietly, her voice a little worried.
“You’ll do great,” Tani reassured her, searching for Fragil’s name.
It seemed indeed that she was teamed up with a vice-captain. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. She might get far, but it would be easy to be overshadowed by someone so capable. Tani was a little bit jealous, but pushed it deep down. She’d rise on her own, without any help. A little farther away, Eric scoffed, still squinting at the screen. Tani was fairly certain he didn’t know his teammates any more than she knew her own. Francis was turning around to go search for his own party.
“Well, I got to go find mine. See you later,” she wished her squadmates, beginning her own search.
It was a rather drawn out search, even when people started finding their own groups. Eventually, however, Tani was able to find the two others. Gamma was a tall, young man with a blonde undercut. His posture was rather relaxed, and he greeted them in a friendly and excited fashion. Covering his black turtleneck was the red, billowing cloak of the Crimson Lion Kings. He was certainly younger than Tani, though she wasn’t sure if he would be even younger than Kliodna. Adrastea was a much more quiet person, barely talking to them. She wore her white hair on a high, tight bun, as if in contrast to her more comfortable clothes. The blue cloak of the Blue Roses was complemented by a white tank top and dark blue harem pants. Her glare seemed to be specifically directed at the member of the Crimson Lion Kings.
“Ready to do your best?” Gamma asked them cheerfully, balancing on one leg.
Tani could only assume that the strange standing position was to relieve stress.
“Yeah,” she answered, glancing over to Adrastea.
The white-haired woman simply nodded. There was certain wariness to her, and based on the glare, Tani had a feeling it was about Gamma. The Blue Roses prided themselves on showing that they were strong women - emphasis being on “women”. Tani could only hope Adrastea wasn’t one of the more extreme members that refused any help from men, or otherwise the team would fall apart quickly.
“As long as we all work together and figure out--” she started, but was cut off by the appearance of large double doors, made by a nearby spatial mage.
It was apparent it had taken them a little bit too long to find each other, and so they had missed a valuable part of talking and strategizing. Tani bit her lip nervously, but turned towards the doors. It seemed like they were going to go elsewhere for the battles. It made sense - the amphitheater was way too small for trying to protect a crystal from a whole other team. Tani and her team went into the line, glancing at each other still a little warily.
“I’m certain we’ll get far,” Gamma proclaimed confidently, seemingly having no worries.
It made Tani a little worried, but she walked with them through the doors. What opened before the group was a large roof of some kind of a building, and below it a field of grass, ruins and sand. On its northern side was a coastal region with water, and to the east a thick forest. The ground was elevated on both the western and eastern side, where two large crystals could be seen floating in the air.
“This battlefield has a wide range of different areas,” the Wizard King proclaimed, appearing last through the doors. “Use them to display your powers to the fullest!”
Tani noticed a glint of excitement in his eyes, though his expression was a calm one. Behind him, another screen appeared: the tournament chart. Her team was on the last round, facing people she knew nothing of. However, should they manage to win that one, she would be going against Eric’s team. She glanced at the two other members of her team carefully.
“Hey, what are your magic attributes?” Tani asked quietly, trying to formulate a plan as the first battle preparations were beginning.
“Ah, well,” Gamma hesitated, scratching the back of his neck. “Magma. It’s a little volatile still and I don’t have perfect control of it, but it packs a punch.”
Adrastea clicked her tongue disapprovingly.
“My specialty is highly controlled strikes,” she informed them. “My attribute is silk.”
“Well, we are a somewhat rounded team then,” Tani said quickly, not liking the slightly hostile attitude of the other woman. “Mine is plants, and I specialize in supporting other people. I can help you with control or simply augment your abilities.”
“Don’t worry, with the recent training with our new Captain, I can work with my powers much better!” Gamma exclaimed happily, clearly unbothered by Adrastea’s disapproval. “Even if I never managed to reach the hot springs in time…”
“Hot springs?” Tani questioned, raising an eyebrow at the statement.
She wasn’t aware there were any hot springs in the vicinity. The younger man didn’t answer, however, as his attention was stolen by the battle that had begun below. The other team seemed to be barraged with long range attacks without a way to properly dodge them.
“Is it possible for us to do something like that? Long range?” Tani asked the other two. “I can increase your reach, if you have good aim.”
Adrastea shook her head.
“I fight in close-quarters. Don’t you have something like that yourself?” the white-haired woman asked, nodding below.
It was clear she meant one of the other participants, who also used plant magic. Mimosa Vermillion was one of the royals, as evident by her bright orange hair. Her magic was very praised for its healing capabilities, and not without a reason - she had gotten to the Golden Dawn, after all. It seemed like she had some offensive spells as well, as a giant flower with pink blooms had formed behind her. The young girl was shooting missiles of mana out of it while protecting the flower and determining the position of their enemies. A small feeling of envy twisted inside of Tani. Royals really were on a whole other level.
“No,” she replied.
Adrastea looked to her for an explanation, but Tani gave none. She did not feel like explaining to her group that she couldn’t even shoot a concentrated missile.
“I can throw quite a bit, but my aim’s wonky,” Gamma confessed, balancing once more on one leg. “The crystal’s big though. If I can get one hit in, it might be enough to break it.”
“Great,” Adrastea commented sarcastically. “Rely on the unreliable.”
“Hey, if you have a better idea, shoot ahead.”
Gamma’s voice was a little sharper now, causing Tani a budding headache. These two would butt heads sooner or later.
“We should go quickly to their crystal, and I will cut it with my silk,” Adrastea stated, crossing her arms.
“Yeah, uh, did you look at who we are against?” Gamma laughed, the sarcasm starting to seep into his tone. “Weiss has air affinity. She is going to be on us before you get there.”
“How about we combine your ideas?” Tani suggested tiredly.
The two others turned to her with a questioning gaze.
“We’ll start with long range attacks. I’ll try to help Gamma with aiming, while Adrastea, you’ll protect our crystal. I will give your mana detection a little boost. If only this Weiss comes closer, leave the protection to me and head for their crystal. If they all come close to us, we’ll move as a group and I’ll support you two as you destroy their crystal.”
“I don’t have a lot of protective spells,” Adrastea warned quietly.
Still, she and Gamma seemed to be considering the suggestion. Tani had no idea if it would actually work, but if it made the two of them work together, it would be the best thing they had. Below, the battles were continuing. It was intriguing to see so many different kinds of magic. She had always listened half-heartedly to Icree talking and describing how important it was to recognize and read mana patterns, but here Tani was simply blown away. The difference between a commoner and a royal seemed so vast. Every show of great power made her more and more nervous, forcing her to fiddle with her fingers. Even Fragil’s team’s battle was short and simple, with the dark-haired Azure Deer member having very little to do. The vice-captain of Golden Dawn, Langris Vaude, took care of it with only one spatial spell. It was a terrifying gap in ability in Tani’s eyes. It was shocking enough for her to ignore the fact that her own captain, Rill, was taking part in the competition. It took Gamma’s repeated questions to snap her out of her frozen state.
“Isn’t that your captain? You know, if we win, you might have to fight him!” he spoke eagerly, eyes glued to the captain of the Azure Deer.
Tani crossed her arms tightly, giving her captain a glance. The blue-haired man was as cheerful as always, eagerly speaking with other competitors. The exam felt as good as failed for her. Rill Boismortier’s magic was picture magic: whatever he drew came to life, and he had the ability to control it as he wished. He was a genius, a prodigy.
“Then we’ll have to hope that we are very uninspiring fighters,” Tani sighed. “The more you excite him, the more he gets into it. Though - he seems rather excited already.”
“Aren’t you excited about fighting him?”
“No, not really. I’ve no way to counter his art.”
Gamma looked thoughtful, but did not pursue the subject. Tani had a feeling he disapproved of her lack of enthusiasm. She turned her gaze back to the battleground, where Rill and his team descended.
“Plus,” she started, giving a glance to the match-ups again. “It seems Francis will have to go against him first.”
“Francis?”
“He is also a member of Azure Deer. He is going to fight against one team, and if he wins, he’ll be against Rill.”
“You are very certain your captain will win,” Gamma commented cheerfully.
Tani nodded. Certainly, her captain was making a point down there, first having been captured by the enemy team, and now countering their magic with relative ease.
“I wouldn’t be so sure your Francis will win, though,” Adrastea intruded into the conversation. “Puli is in the team going against him, and she is very strong.”
“I’m not aware of the full extent of his capabilities,” Tani said quietly, not wishing to start any rivalries between squads. “It is very possible this Puli will win.”
“We’ll see soon,” the member of the Blue Roses replied, looking as the two other teams descended to the battleground.
The battle wasn’t long itself, and as Adrastea predicted, her squadmate’s team won. Still, Tani did not think the team would be able to win against her captain. She would be surprised if they did. She didn’t have a lot of time to think about it, however - they were next in line to fight. She could see the other team briefly, as they both started to head to their respective starting points. They were all from different squads than Tani’s team, consisting of a long-haired, blonde man wearing the short coat of the Green Mantis, one slightly larger man with the triangular coat of the Purple Orca, and a pale, white-haired woman with the fluffy cloak of the Silver Eagle. There was no telling what their affinities were, other than the woman’s - Gamma had mentioned she was Weiss, the air mage. The groups separated in tense silence, Tani heart beating faster than ever. She questioned why she even was there. She hated exams.
“Let’s hide in the ruins, set up a place to throw missiles at them, and wait for them to come to us,” Gamma suggested silently as they stood on the starting place.
“How are we to know where to throw the missiles?” Adrastea asked, her voice no longer so cold.
It seemed like her distaste for Gamma was pushed back by the need for a strategy. Tani felt slightly relieved.
“It’s a long shot, but I could locate them,” she said hesitantly. “It would eat a lot of my mana though. It might be better that we set up an ambush of some sort and hope Weiss rushes in.”
The others nodded, looking at the ruins nearby. They’d set up there and protect the crystal. They would win.
Hopefully.

Melting Heart
Nozel Silva x reader
A 100 follower raffle one-shot for @wildcreationmagic ! Enjoy!
Nozel Silva hated things that didn't make sense. This world was a simple one, as far as he knew. The amount of magic a person had dictated their entire life: whether they could join the magic knights, whether they were royalty or nobility, and whether they were worthy of Nozel's acknowledgement. As the Captain of the Silver Eagles squad, he only chose the very best to fight alongside him. Those with powerful magic that came from their bloodline, rarely a commoner that just managed to get lucky.
And yet...
You somehow made it into his squad.
Your magic was amazing, he admitted that much. It was Wild Magic, the ability to create temporary creatures that you could command on your own. It was as close as someone could get to creating life, something many mages had sought after. You were the hot pick for that exam, and everyone was surprised when you were taken into the Silver Eagles, a squad well-known to be exclusive to nobles. However, you weren't fazed by it in the least. Even Nozel had to admire you. However, the same wasn't true for his two younger siblings.
"You won't believe what I saw the other day," Solid sneered. "You know that commoner in the squad? I caught Noelle talking to her! Like they were old friends, too."
"How disgraceful... Noelle, speaking to a commoner? I mean, I guess she would stoop that low."
Nozel said nothing, just nodded along with a blank expression on his face.
------
"That mage in the woods has been stealing a lot from our storehouses lately. We really appreciate you tracking them down for us."
Nozel wasn't sure how he ended up on this mission to the boonies. This was work more befitting of a lower squad such as the Black Bulls or the Grey Deer. But he had to go, it was the Wizard King's orders. The one problem was...
"Don't worry, sir, we'll catch this crook in no time!" you told the mayor proudly, saluting. "The Silver Eagles are the very best you could wish for!"
The two of you walked off into the woods after that, searching for any sign of the troublemaker. You hummed to yourself as you walked, your cloak swishing behind you and your hair bobbing around your head. Nozel caught himself staring out of the corner of his eye and quickly looked away. No, no NO! She is NOT cute. I do NOT think she's cute. "You know, you shouldn't be so optimistic in front of the civilians," Nozel finally said, referring to your behavior earlier. "We're used to more important tasks, after all, these types of missions are menial. Also, don't be so friendly. They'll start getting friendly, too."
"I don't get what's wrong with being friendly," you answered, scowling a bit at his words. "And this is important. Our job is to protect the kingdom, right?"
"I'm Royalty. The affairs of peasants don't bother me," he replied, glancing back over at you. "There are much more pressing issues we could be dealing with right now."
You suddenly stopped and placed your hands on your hips. "I'm royalty this, I'm royalty that, honestly Nozel, you're a magic knight. You swore to protect every member of this kingdom, right?"
Nozel was shocked at the audacity, but it was also... kind of hot. But you were still talking back to your captain. "I don't appreciate being talked to like this," he snapped. "Anyway... yes, I swore that. But the way I see it-" Suddenly, he stopped, sensing mana behind you. "Look out!" Without hesitation, he leaped forward and pushed you to the ground, a moment before a spike of ice went zipping by. "This might be the criminal, let's go!"
You nodded and sprung back to your feet. "Wild Creation Magic: Power of the Pack!" Instantly, four wolves materialized around you, their eyes glowing. They sniffed the air and took off in the direction of your attacker. "This way!"
Wow... that's pretty amazing, Nozel caught himself thinking. NO! Get your mind straight... He shook of the thoughts and ran off after you and the wolves.
"They should be right up ahead..." Suddenly, your eyes widened as the mana from your wolves disappeared. "He's strong! And-" You spotted another flurry of ice shooting towards Noel. No! Nozel! Thinking quickly, you grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the way while yelling out another spell. "Butterfly barrier!" Nozel blinked in surprise as the ice was blocked just before it hit him. You spotted a small cave as more ice rained down, at least that would be a covered area to launch a counterattack. You and Nozel jumped inside before turning around. "Now, we can-"
Ice was suddenly covering the entrance, trapping you inside. Nozel grit his teeth, "This isn't a problem." He sent a few mercury spears, but they glanced off the ice without any damage. "Huh? It's really that durable?"
The criminal ran away, leaving you two to futily try to chip away at the ice. "No! We're going to have to wait for it to wear off..." you groaned, sitting down heavily on the ground. Nozel kicked at it for a few more minutes before slumping down against the cave wall. "It's your fault we're in this mess."
"My fault? I just saved your worthless life," you spat back. Nozel opened his mouth to say something back, but then looked away. She's right... she saved me. She's right about a lot of things...
You sighed, casting your gaze down. "I'm sorry... that was uncalled for,"
"No. It was." Nozel turned back to look down at you. "...Thanks for saving me. We'll probably have to spend the night in here, though."
You nodded, then shivered as the ice started to cool down the cave. Nozel noticed, then cautiously scooted closer to you. "You're cold?"
"...yeah." You hugged your knees to your chest, trying to trap in your body heat. You glanced up as Nozel was suddenly only inches away from you.
This is embarrassing... yet, I may not get this opportunity again. I'm a fool, after all. "If you're uncomfortable, we can...uh... you know..." Nozel gulped and looked away, doing his best not to blush. "...share body heat."
You stared at him for a moment, incredulous. Nozel thought that your silence was a rejection, but then he looked back to see your cheeks dusted with pink.
"Ah... okay."
Wait, she actually said yes? Nozel snapped out of it and awkwardly wrapped an arm around you, pulling you into his chest. His eyes widened at how cold you were. "Here..." He took off his cape and spread it over the two of you like a blanket. "The only reason I'm doing this is because it's practical, you know."
You raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? Then, I can do this to rest my head, right?" He stiffened up as you gently laid your head on his shoulder. After a moment, he relaxed.
"I suppose."
The two of you laid in silence, passive-aggressively cuddling each other as the sun went down and the cave went dark. The feeling of your body next to his was comforting... no, thrilling.
Look at me. I’m really falling in love with a commoner, aren't I?
"Nozel?"
"Yes?"
"...I'm sorry for talking back so much today. I just... really don't like the way you Royals look down on commoners."
"No, I deserved it. In fact..." You felt his head come down to rest on top of yours, making your heart flutter a bit. "Thank you. I need someone like you to tell me when I'm wrong."
You smiled to yourself at the admission, letting your hand rest on his chest. "...damn right you do."
With that, you both eventually drifted off to sleep. It was cold in that cave, but by morning, the ice had melted from the entrance. You had a feeling that ice was melting from someone's heart, as well.

4. Cosmik Debris
Masterlist
It’s Ariadne’s most overwhelming birthday yet… new titles, some trinkets and friends to come. What more could a girl need?
THIS IS THE END OF PART ONE. PART TWO WILL BEGIN FROM THE ENTRANCE EXAM OF ASTA AND YUNO
Please please let me know if you want Yuno to join The Grey Wolves with Asta.
Tumblr media
Twenty one. Ariadne was now twenty one and had zero plans to do anything today, if anything maybe visit the markets, apparently there was a new stall being held by one of the bartenders at their (Ariadne, Yami and William's) favourite drinking spot- where she sells the things she makes, it sounds so interesting.
A knock. She froze, quickly pressing her mask to her face and pulling over her new silver cloak before practically tripping to the door of her room- one that had been supplied by the Grey Deer thankfully.
Opening the door she was pleasantly surprised to see both her teammates.
"Morning Ariadne."
"Morning short-stack."
"Why short-stack Yami?" Ariadne asks, completely confused by the new nickname. The tall man just shrugged.
"It's your birthday yeah? Come on, Julius wants to talk to us and then we can go celebrate."
"Oh-" Ariadne didn't know what to say, she wasn't a big fan of celebrating her birthday and that little stall seemed really interesting... but she supposed she could still see it. "As long as we can duck into the markets there's a stall I want to check out."
"We can do that Ari." William smiled. Ariadne smiled back at both of them.
"So how was the bandits mission?" She questions- she hadn't joined them since she had a different mission (yes escorts count... even when they come from creepy requesters.)
"Fine. Nothing much happened, found two traitors." Yami shrugged. She nodded. "Goht and Mohl or whatever their names were."
"A Silver Eagle and a Crimson Lion... must be rough for Fuegoleon and Nozel." Ariadne snickered.
"It was a disappointing fight." William shrugged.
Ariadne gave a giggle, one many people enjoyed hearing.
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
"You three did brilliant on your missions." Julius gleamed. "You were able to capture the traitors and the bandits and of course Ariadne you did splendid on your escort mission- I'm glad you were able to punch him in the end."
"I'm glad I was too." She said quietly. Yami, William and Marx gave her a look. "He was creepy and tried to feel up one of the other female knights."
"Anyway, anyway I have good news!" Julius exclaimed pulling everyone's attention back to him. "Ariadne, Yami, William. I am appointing you three as captains of new squads. Do you accept?"
"I-I-I-" Ariadne stuttered, mouth agape. That's one hell of a birthday present. Yami and William took the news better than her. "Yes. Lord Julius." She said finally, her face as red as the wizard kings robes.
"Excellent. Yami, what kind of squad would you like to create?"
Yami scratched his chin in thought.
"A squad where status, bloodlines and social standing don't matter. I'll call them... the Black Bulls."
"And you?" Julius turns to William, who answers within a split second- an answer seemingly had been prepared earlier.
"I will create the Golden Dawn. Yes creating the ultimate squad is my way of repaying you, Lord Julius,"
"And you?" His attention turned back to Ariadne.
"Well since we aren't the Grey Deer anymore and I still want to be a little connected to them... The Grey Wolves... a squad similar to Yami's, no status, no prejudices or discrimination. One where my team can grow and grow." She gave a shy smile, the part of her face visible seeming so peaceful and happy.
"These squads sound wonderful!" Julius said with a clap, smile stretching across his face in a Cheshire grin.
"Black Bulls, Golden Dawn and Grey Wolves." Marx said, "good name choices."
"Thank you." They said awkwardly.
And even as they left the room, the strangeness still settling there was this feeling that the day was just getting... stranger and stranger. Ariadne could feel it in the air... she would have something interesting occur on her birthday.... Though maybe becoming a captain was that strange feeling. Then a body made contact with hers. A squeak, long pale blonde- almost white- hair cast its way into Ariadne's vision as the newly made captain reached forward to the tumbling woman.
"So sorry." She said as she regained her balance and turned to Ariadne, her face a picture perfect copy of the colour Ariadne bore when Julius gave their new titles. She had the most crystal-blue like eyes and wore a long blue tunic patterned in stars, tied with a brown belt, pants which matched the belt and boots that matched the tunic. Ariadne was impressed, they were almost wearing the same thing par the colour and pattern (The Grey Wolves Captain bore her silver cloak over her white tunic and pants) the brunette shook her head she had no time to look at a pretty face.
"Are you alright?" William asked as he stepped forward. If it was possible her face became brighter- not that Ariadne could say anything in memory of her first time meeting the masked man.
"Ye-yes sir. I'll watch my surroundings better in the future." Her hair was falling in her face, hiding her blue eyes.
"What's your name?" Ariadne asked, a smile soft and kind making the white-blonde haired woman stare.
"My-my n-n-name?" She stuttered, "Iris Blayne... no one special just a maid here.. I'm out of uniform because it's my day off!" she exclaimed quickly.
"It's okay Miss Blayne we understand. Please stay safe." William smiled again as the three Captains bid her farewell, Yami not bothering to say anything, probably off in his own world of thought- he does that sometimes. Iris gave another bow before rushing off towards Julius' office. What an interesting woman.
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
"So... captains." Ariadne said as they left the Wizard King's castle- it was still so strange to see the Deer's former captain as such a rank.
"Yeah. Even this little butterfly managed to become one." Yami laughed, giant hand ruffling her hair, the hair she'd actually bothered to make look nice today. She pouted. "Did I mess up your hair? It's windy here not like it won't get messed up anyway." Yami asks, still laughing as he pokes the masked side of her face.
"Yes actually." She huffed, waving a hand to smack him as the other hand pulled back the loosened strands of straight brown hair. "It's my birthday I wanted to look nice."
"You always look nice-" William says with what Ariadne and Yami can only assume is a frown beneath that extravagant mask.
Ariadne bit back a sarcastic comment- as comfortable as she is around them... she just can't allow herself to be so free, her anxiety was just too strong... oh god as a captain she'd be in charge and people would look up to her oh god why did she say yes... After all this time she was still guarded and overly shy yes, but more expressive and it warmed her friends hearts, that includes the Wizard King and Marx she supposed.
"Anyway." Ariadne says after a moment of thought. "Reckon we'll need Vice Captains right away or?"
"Julius will probably give us some time to get used to being Captains before we require one." William answered, another fast and seemingly prepared answer.
"I'll just make Nacht mine." Yami shrugged.
"He isn't even in the Kingdom are you sure?" William asks.
"Yeah. It's fine." Yami replied, though he sounded a little off. It was obvious as to why, but she decided not to say anything, and so did William.
A beat.
"So what did you want to do for your birthday?" William questions.
"Nothing if I'm honest." She shrugs. Yami's already grabbed a new cigarette to light and clearly checking out of the conversation- or whatever it is that he does when he stops listening to everyone. "I do want to go to the markets though."
"Ah what for? To buy some new books?"
Oh she forgot how attentive the Golden Dawn Captain could be- even Yami was when no one noticed.
"Oh no. You know the bar we frequent?" William nods. "The new bartender has a stall for this week's market, and I thought I would go have a look."
"New bartender?" Yami asks as he checks back into the conversation, cigarette balanced between his lips. Ariadne flushes a little- though when doesn't she have a blush across her face.
"The smaller woman with short black hair, kind of looks like how fantasy novels depict the high elves, without the pointy ears that is." She says moving her hands to imitate elven ears. "Very pretty at that."
"Nope don't know her." Yami shrugs. William hums in agreement.
"She's quite new... works during the day so normally leave right before you show up." Ariadne says, "Hey look there!"
The exclamation in her voice startled the two men as she stumbled forward, grabbing their hands and pulling them as she did towards the stall she wanted to visit.
Ariadne offered a soft smile as she reached the stall the dark haired woman was manning on her own. Toys, trinkets and carvings all decorated in various colours and designs. Some moving- almost dancing without the use magic it seems, some sat on shelves seemingly just watching the world, some just looking pretty. Ariadne was enamoured by the creations the bartender made, gods above she felt so calm and as though her stress was falling from her shoulders. The dark haired woman was smaller than Ariadne in stature and height, her dark hair sat in comfortable stillness amongst the windy street- magic she supposed. She wore a simple white blouse, black corset belt and loose black pants- oftentimes at the bar the small woman would wear a simple black dress, the corset belt never changing but Ariadne had to admit she looked more comfortable in pants... it was a good change.
She had such a familiar, comforting feeling, it was nice.
"Hello little knight." The woman smiled; Ariadne looked up.
"Hello." Ariadne smiled again. "You were right they are beautiful."
"Thank you. It's just a hobby, but one I like to share." She said, cold grey eyes taking in the three newly appointed Captains. William was equally as intrigued by the creations, a particular piece catching his eye, a glass and wooden statue framed as though it were the sun above a mountain... a perfect symbol for the Golden Dawn.
Yami however... something felt weird, her eyes piercing and all-knowing. He caught her eye, locking grey to grey.
"Congratulations." She said with a smile, black hair waving as she tilted her head slightly, her voice was strong, velvety, enticing. The trio looked at her confused. "You all seem to have gotten good news, Ari seems to be more nervous than usual which from what I have seen means she's been given good news and doesn't know what to do with it and you two seem just a little off kilter. Simple deduction."
"Ah. Yes we have good news." Ariadne said awkwardly. "I'll tell later... are we still meeting next Friday?"
"Yes."
"Oh so are you friends?" William inquires, being pulled away from the decorative piece he was admiring. Both women nod.
"I need someone to talk to when you are late." Ariadne says shyly. "And she's new to the capital so she needs a guide."
"Ah. Let us know if you need anything Miss." William smiled.
"What's your name?" Yami asks finally managing to pull away from her piercing eyes.
"Tahlia."
"Just Tahlia?"
"Do I need to be anything more than that Yami Sukehiro?"
"Touché." He says before deciding to peruse the little gadgets. A little Minotaur made of metal scraps and stone... moonstone eyes. He shook his head. Every once in a while he and William will talk about that day, when they just... lost Ariadne- though she came out completely unharmed, her Ki feeling just that little bit stronger than when they'd entered the dungeon. He shook his head. "How much for the Minotaur?"
"Three thousand Yul." Tahlia answers as she spies the man fishing for his coins.
"May I inquire about the sun over the mountain piece?" William asks.
"Four thousand Yul." Tahlia says with a raised brow, clearly waiting for Ariadne to ask next. She hums, clearly the men were getting something to represent their squads, so she could too.
"That wolf pendant." Ariadne says nodding towards the rack behind the small woman. Tahlia squinted in what could possibly be her version of 'playfully' as she looked at her friend.
"For you it'll be One thousand Yul. Would you like me to wrap them up or bag them?"
"I'll wear mine if that's okay Tahls." Ariadne says with a smile. The petite woman nods before turning to the two men who politely (well William asked politely) for them to be wrapped and bagged. "See you Friday Tahls."
"Goodbye you three... see you soon."
"Well she seems nice." Yami says.
"That would be because she is nice." Ariadne and William say in tandem.
"Jinx." Ariadne says softly. William seems to fidget before he turns to her.
"Are you sure you don't want to do anything else for your birthday?" William asks. Ariadne nods.
"Yes. I say it every year, but I don't care to celebrate the day."
"Why is that butterfly?"
"Would you celebrate the day you arrived in the Clover Kingdom?" Yami pauses, mouth opening before shutting again, she made her point.
She thinks for a moment as she watches Yami and William begin to talk, now walking in front of her. It's not like she's the only one who's had rough days, not the only one ripped from her home, not the only one hurt by the world... but she does know she has friends, and those friends mean the absolute world to her.
