I miss old deviantart. When it wasn't drowning in ai plagiarism slop and reveling in it. When they didn't sell out and alienate their artist base by incorporating ai scraping databases. When it wasn't mask off pro-israli and pro-genocide (I believe because deviantart was owned by Wix? iirc). When you could actually post art on there and people would engage and comment on it, even if it was 'bad' art, because people recognize other people trying to get better at their craft and want to encourage that.
I miss the fun custom animated stamps and fun little emojis used on the site. I miss the old layouts and free widgets and elements that got retroactively put behind a paywall because nothing is sacred in capitalism.
Yes, even old deviantart had its problems, the site has /always/ had a problem with uncensored niche fetish art being posted brazenly because well 'technically it's not breaking rules no one is naked or getting overtly fucked' but it's still fetish art and therefore should be marked as adult content.
I deleted my deviantart when the ai shit came around, but I still miss the good resources I followed. Good stock and pose reference accounts, brush packs, tutorials.
Artstation is just as heinous about the ai slop. Add that I've experienced scammers using artstation to mass email artists with fake job opportunities, it left a very sour taste in my mouth.
The internet is getting so hostile for creatives, for visual artists, for writers, and it's concerning. The cop-out advice of 'make your own website' ignores that search-engine optimization makes it so that personal websites get buried under ads and the popular websites, therefore making it so the personal websites get way less traffic than the social media sites. Starting up a new website to fill the niche deviantart and artstation should fill takes a lot of time and money and work, servers cost money to maintain, and even if you have all of that, it may never get enough traffic and new people to become a real competitor to the big sites. Suffering.

Clients Are Demanding More Web Design Freedom
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/clients-are-demanding-more-web-design-freedom/
Clients Are Demanding More Web Design Freedom
Web designers love to client-proof their creations. It’s all about preventing a rogue client from mucking up a layout or feature. After all, everyone’s happy when things look good.
The practice keeps those technical support requests to a minimum. Or at least it did.
These days, it seems like clients are eager to experiment with design. The more we lock down features, the more frustrated they get. It’s been a growing trend in my freelance business.
I often receive design queries from clients. They want to know how to create specific layouts. Or how to embed video or other third-party content.
It marks a change from how things used to be. So, why are clients suddenly interested in doing it themselves? I have a few theories! I also have thoughts on what we can do to meet this need.
There’s a Higher Standard for Web Design
Today’s clients are avid web consumers. Some have grown up alongside the internet. Therefore, they possess a different set of sensibilities.
The web used to be a novelty. The clients I served 10+ years ago weren’t as attuned to user experience (UX). If anything, they asked for features that went against the grain in this area.
Sure, I still get requests for such features. But they have decreased significantly.
I more often hear from people who want to replicate a specific look. They want a page layout similar to a big brand or competitor.
True, they may want these results on a much smaller budget. But they have an idea of how a website should look and work. And it’s miles away from the clunky designs of yesteryear.
Clients are surrounded by better design. And they want the same for themselves.
No-Code Tools Are Promising a Better Experience
We’ve witnessed an influx of browser-based design tools in recent years. Proprietary systems like Wix market themselves as do-it-all solutions. Even open-source apps like WordPress have gotten into the game with its Site and Block Editors.
The message is that anyone can build a website. Sure, the reality may be blurred (and there’s no mention of quality). But these tools have raised the bar of expectation.
For some website owners, having a site is no longer enough. They also want to create content and personalize the look. Empowered clients, yay!
However, this is a less-than-ideal situation for web designers. We want our clients to accomplish great things with their sites. But there’s a price to all of this newfound freedom.
These tools make building a custom layout easier. But things can get out of hand rather quickly.
I’ve seen this with the WordPress Block Editor. There’s a lot to love about it. However, it doesn’t guarantee success. Those unfamiliar with design can paint themselves into a corner.
For example, building layouts that are hard to maintain. Or accidentally dragging a block into the wrong space. All good for our job security. Not so much for our mental health.
Yes, anyone can build with a no-code tool. But it still takes careful thought and foresight to do it well. That’s why locking things down is still so attractive.
What Should Web Designers Do?
We want to keep our clients happy. Plus, there’s only so much lecturing we can do. So, how can we provide the flexibility clients want while also safeguarding their site?
There are a few ideas that come to mind:
Build with Flexibility in Mind
I’m a very purpose-driven designer. I like to build features that match a client’s stated needs. But sometimes, that leads to inflexibility.
A client will attempt to use a feature in a way that I didn’t intend. The result is often a frustration for both parties.
The lesson here is to build with flexibility in mind. Consider other ways a client may use a feature. Then, provide options for making it work.
Custom WordPress blocks are a good example. Instead of creating a block with a singular layout option, go the extra mile. Add column and row layouts. Allow for different types of content to be input.
These little steps can mitigate issues down the road. Clients won’t have to think outside the box – they’ll already have everything they need.
Invest in Client Education
Design tools are more powerful than ever. That’s a good thing. However, a well-intentioned client could use them to cause havoc.
When people know better, they do better. Thus, education can be just as powerful.
Sit down with clients and teach them the basics. Provide documentation that spells out best practices and things to avoid.
Granted, not everyone has time to do this. In that case, you might employ a third-party resource to help. Curate a list of videos and tutorials to put clients on the right path.
Again, prevention is the best medicine here.
Lock Down What You Can
None of this means we should stop locking things down. A client-proof website is still a noble goal. We might have to be more selective, though.
Tools like the WordPress Block Editor include a locking feature. You can use it to prevent those unintended consequences. Adding block patterns could also satisfy the need to create custom layouts.
You might also seek to limit user permissions. If there’s an area that a client should never touch – don’t give them easy access.
Think about the site’s most mission-critical aspects and act accordingly.
Web Designers Need to Meet Clients Where They Are
Today’s web design clients want to do more with their sites. Sure, they want us to build them something beautiful and functional. But they also want the ability to do it themselves.
There’s no going back on this. The cat’s already out of the bag. Thus, we need to adjust to match these expectations.
We can achieve this through a bit of foresight. Anticipate how clients will interact with their website. Build features that can withstand whatever they throw at it.
We’ll still make mistakes. Plus, some clients will be prone to mishaps. However, these experiences are learning opportunities. Take them and keep evolving. After all, our clients aren’t slowing down.

So I follow this WordPress news site and check in there every few days, and this is one of their recent posts:
Matt Mullenweg, WordPress founder, now also owns Tumblr (and he’s even one of us @ photomatt), so his thoughts on AI got me interested in reading and this is what he thinks:
“I consider all proprietary software to be an evolutionary dead end,” Mullenweg said. They discussed how AI is changing the developer experience. Mullenweg is optimistic about AI working with open source and reiterated what he said recently on Post Status’ Slack:
“Open source and AI are the two mega trends of the next twenty years, and the reason they are complimentary is that GPT4 hasn’t read Shopify’s code. It’s read Drupal’s code and WordPress’ code, and all 55,000 plugins and everything else, so it can write it. If you ask it to write a website, it’s going to write it in an open source thing. It’s not going to write it in these propriety things. From an evolutionary point of view, if you go far enough into the future, someday we’ll see even our proprietary competitors – the Wix’s and Squarespace and Shopify’s of the world, actually running on open source software. “That’s part of our vision with Gutenberg as well as why we made it an even more permissive license than the GPL. We dual-licensed it under the MPL so it could even be embedded in commercial applications, because I really think it’s so important that I want it to be in even commercial applications.”
He’s talking about code and open-source software, and he’s very optimistic about AI’s intervention in those… I’m not a developer, so I don’t really know how to feel about that. [But I remember when GitHub Copilot was launched, a lot of developers, even those working on open-source stuff, were against how Copilot would use the code published on GitHub]
With Matt being very pro-AI, I wonder how it will eventually affect us here on Tumblr...

DIY vs. Professional Website Design in Atlanta: Pros & Cons
In today’s digital landscape, having a strong online presence is essential for businesses in Atlanta, GA, and Nashville, TN. A well-designed website can differentiate between attracting new customers and losing them to competitors. When it comes to website design in Atlanta, GA, and website design in Nashville, TN, business owners often face the decision of whether to go the DIY route or hire a professional web design agency. In this article, we’ll break down the pros and cons of each approach to help you make the best choice for your business.
DIY Website Design: Pros & Cons
Pros of DIY Website Design
Lower Cost – DIY website builders like Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress can be cost-effective, making them a popular choice for startups and small businesses.
Quick Setup – Many website builders offer templates and drag-and-drop features, allowing you to create a basic site in a short amount of time.
Full Control – With DIY, you have complete control over your website design, content, and updates without relying on a third party.
No Waiting Time – Since you’re not dependent on a designer, you can make instant changes whenever needed.
Cons of DIY Website Design
Limited Customization – Templates often restrict design flexibility, making it hard to create a unique brand identity.
Lack of SEO Optimization – DIY platforms may not be optimized for search engines, affecting your website’s visibility in search results for keywords like website design Atlanta GA and website design Nashville TN.
Poor Performance & Security – Many DIY websites lack advanced security features, making them vulnerable to cyber threats.
Time-Consuming – Learning how to design, optimize, and maintain a website can be overwhelming for business owners.
Individuals may be tempted to cut corners in terms of quality when taking on DIY projects. This could mean using cheaper materials or skipping essential steps in the process. While it might seem like a way to save money initially, the lack of quality control can result in products or repairs that break down much sooner than expected, requiring further investment down the line for replacements or repairs.
DIY projects can be rewarding, they often lead to increased costs, wasted time, and disappointing outcomes. For those looking for efficient, high-quality results, hiring a professional is frequently the wiser investment. Rather than attempting to save money through DIY, individuals may find it more beneficial to invest in the expertise and quality that professionals provide.
Professional Website Design: Pros & Cons
Pros of Professional Website Design
Custom & Unique Design – A professional agency ensures your website is tailored to your brand and stands out from competitors in Atlanta, GA, and Nashville, TN.
SEO-Friendly – Expert designers implement the latest SEO strategies, helping your website rank higher for relevant keywords like website design in Atlanta GA and website design in Nashville TN.
Mobile Responsiveness – With more users browsing on mobile devices, a professionally designed website ensures seamless user experience across all screen sizes.
Security & Maintenance – Agencies offer ongoing security updates, website maintenance, and support to keep your site running smoothly.
Better Performance & Speed – A professionally built website is optimized for fast loading times, improving user engagement and conversions.
Cons of Professional Website Design
Higher Cost – Hiring a web design agency requires an initial investment, but the long-term benefits often outweigh the costs.
Longer Development Time – Custom website design takes time, but the result is a high-quality, well-optimized website tailored to your needs.
Which Option Is Right for You?
If you’re a small business owner looking for a quick, budget-friendly solution, a DIY website may be a temporary option.
However, if you want a professional, SEO-optimized, and high-performing website, hiring a web design agency is the best long-term investment.

How to Start a Dropshipping Business: Product Management, Website Design, and Marketing
Starting a dropshipping business can be a lucrative venture with the right approach. It requires minimal upfront investment, making it an appealing choice for entrepreneurs. This article will guide you through the steps to start your dropshipping business, manage your products effectively, design a user-friendly website, and market your offerings successfully.
Tumblr media
Step 1: Understanding Dropshipping
Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where you don’t hold inventory. Instead, you partner with suppliers who ship products directly to your customers. This model minimizes financial risk and allows you to focus on marketing and customer service.
Step 2: Choosing Your Niche
Selecting a niche is critical to your success. A good niche should balance profitability with passion. Research trends, identify gaps in the market, and ensure that your products solve a problem or cater to specific customer needs. Tools like Google Trends and keyword research tools can help you identify potential niches.
Step 3: Sourcing Products and Finding Suppliers
Reliable suppliers are the backbone of a dropshipping business. Platforms like AliExpress, Oberlo, or Spocket connect you with suppliers offering a variety of products. When choosing a supplier, consider factors like shipping times, product quality, and customer reviews.
Step 4: Setting Up Your Online Store
1. Choose an E-commerce Platform:
Popular platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce offer easy-to-use tools to build your store. Select one based on your technical skills and budget.
2. Domain and Branding:
Pick a memorable domain name that reflects your niche. Invest in professional branding, including a logo, color scheme, and typography, to establish credibility.
3. Design for User Experience (UX):
Ensure your website is intuitive and visually appealing. Key elements include:
Clear Navigation: Use straightforward menus and categories.
Responsive Design: Optimize for mobile and desktop devices.
Fast Loading Speeds: Compress images and use reliable hosting.
4. Product Pages:
Create compelling product pages with high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and customer reviews. Highlight key benefits and specifications to help customers make informed decisions.
Step 5: Managing Your Products
Effective product management ensures your store runs smoothly:
Inventory Syncing: Use apps like Oberlo or Inventory Source to automate inventory updates.
Pricing Strategies: Analyze competitors and set competitive prices that include a reasonable profit margin.
Quality Control: Regularly order samples to ensure product quality.
Step 6: Marketing Your Dropshipping Business
1. Social Media Marketing:
Leverage platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to showcase your products. Use eye-catching visuals, run contests, and collaborate with influencers to boost visibility.
2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Optimize your website for search engines to drive organic traffic. Focus on:
Keyword Optimization: Include relevant keywords in product titles, descriptions, and blogs.
Content Marketing: Publish blogs, guides, and tutorials related to your niche.
3. Paid Advertising:
Invest in Google Ads, Facebook Ads, or Instagram Ads to reach a targeted audience. Monitor metrics like click-through rates (CTR) and conversion rates to refine your campaigns.
4. Email Marketing:
Build an email list and nurture leads with personalized campaigns. Offer discounts, showcase new arrivals, and send cart abandonment emails to boost conversions.
Step 7: Analyzing Performance and Scaling
Use analytics tools like Google Analytics or the built-in dashboards of your e-commerce platform to monitor traffic, sales, and customer behavior. Identify trends and adjust your strategies accordingly. As your business grows, consider expanding your product range and exploring new marketing channels.
Conclusion
Starting a dropshipping business involves careful planning and execution. From selecting the right niche and suppliers to building an engaging website and implementing effective marketing strategies, every step contributes to your success. With dedication and adaptability, you can build a thriving dropshipping business that meets customer needs and generates consistent profits.

How to Create a Website That Drive Conversion
Tumblr media
Fact check: your website plays a crucial part in your digital marketing strategy. It acts as a virtual face of your brand, your virtual store, and a platform that you can use to make sales online. A thoughtfully designed, functional, and high-performing website is important to drive conversion.
As much as building a website is important for your business, developing and maintaining it is equally important. It may seem to be a challenging task at first, especially for those who are not familiar with the programming languages and tools used in the process.
But don’t worry, in this blog, we can discuss a step-by-step process for building a successful website. Based on our years of experience as a leading web design agency, we have tried to cover it all. Right from planning content to custom web development to website maintenance. You can also explore web metrics and how to analyze them, all in a concise and clear format to get you started as easily as possible.
Step-by-Step Process To Create A Website that Drives Conversions
Determine Your Objectives: Define your goals with the website. Like creating brand awareness, generating leads, driving quality traffic, or B2B sales. Determining the goals helps you in jotting down the resources you might need during the development process, and an approximate budget to complete the project within timelines.
Identify Your Target Audience and Competition: Identify your set of target audiences and possible competitors so that you can create a website that specifically caters to the needs of your audience and seems relevant. Once you are ready with the buyer personas, you can list down the pain points, which you can address with your brand. You can even craft personalized content to drive them towards your brand’s offering. The next step is to assess the websites of your competitors. The design, products, navigation, and analysis of their website data via tools like SEMrush. You can even analyze their social media presence and how the audience is interacting with their content. This will give you a rough idea about their strengths and weaknesses, which you can address with your website. You can hire dedicated developers and create a website that provides a better user experience.
Choose A Content Management System: Choose a content management system (CMS) that fits well with your business requirements. For example, Joomla is a CMS that comes with built-in multilingual support, so if your business operates worldwide, this can be a good fit for you. While Shopify is another CMS that works well for e-commerce websites, WordPress is a preference for businesses that require a more sophisticated backend and Wix is a cloud-based CMS that offers web hosting and design capabilities. A good content management system should allow you to manage web content efficiently without much professional expertise.
Create A Content Strategy: Develop a content strategy that seems personalized for your brand. The content should speak the language that resonates with your brand’s vision. It should fulfill your business objectives while making a strong presence in the industry. ensure that you embed some keywords in your content. Search for the right keywords using popular tools, and create a content calendar to stay consistent. The next step is to analyze and measure the results. by looking at the numbers, you can easily guess which part of the content resonates with your audience. You can make changes in the wasted part. Some of the most important web metrics include click-through rate, organic traffic, bounce rate, time on page, and exit rate.
Designing Your Website: You might have already heard the phrase, “First impression is the last impression”. So It’s time to finalize the design and aesthetics of your website. After landing on your website, the very first thing a visitor notices is the design of your website. so make sure you select the visually appealing elements, which are easy to navigate, and have enough white space. Web pages that create a positive experience for the visitor are more likely to increase retention and drive conversion. Moreover, a good website is not only about good design, it’s also about embedding the right CTA at the right places. The design should always support the goals and objectives of your business. Let’s say your goal is to convince your visitors to sign up for the newsletter, the CTA should be clear and positioned at just the right places.
Optimize for SEO: Now that the website is ready with all the critical elements, the next step is to make it appear on the search engine results page (SERP). Ensure that you optimize your website with updated content to help your potential customers find you online. Create meta descriptions, embed internal links, optimize multimedia, and create a Google My Business listing to improve your online rankings. Not only this, conduct regular SEO audits to adjust the website’s content as per the analytics. Some of the best tools that can help you are Google Search Console, SEMrush, and more.
Keep Monitoring Your Website’s Health and Performance: Keep a check on your website’s health by enabling secure encryption, keeping the software updated, and installing firewalls. This ensures your website remains safe from any potential attacks and threats. Test your website regularly for broken links, slow page speeds, and accessibility issues.
Create A Social Media Strategy: A perfect social media strategy can drive real conversions. Amongst the many social media channels, decide which ones you would like to use, and create a content calendar mentioning the content for each channel. Also, decide the frequency and timing of your posts to engage with your target audience. Create a consistent brand voice across all the channels. Successful social media marketing not only positions you as a leader but also signals to the search engines that your website’s engagement rate is high, which has a direct impact on the website’s rankings.
Analyze Metrics: When the website is up and running, start analyzing the data and metrics to ensure it is performing well. Metrics can tell if the website is reaching your target audience. Use tools like Google Analytics to track the number of visitors in a month, engagement rate, and conversion rates.
Update Your Website Consistently: An idle website is a dead website. so if you want to catch the attention of search engines, keep updating the content and elements of your website. It signals the search engines that your content is relevant to the current market needs. Monitor trends in the market and changes in customer behavior, and make changes accordingly. Conduct regular audit sessions to ensure the website is performing at an optimized level.
By following these steps carefully, you can build a website that aligns well with your business goals.
Additional tip:
Build Trust with Social Proof: In 2025, building trust amongst your target audience is a cornerstone of developing a high-converting website. And trust can be built using genuine reviews, testimonials, and customer feedback. One of the most effective ways is to display testimonials and reviews on your website.
Showcasing genuine, real feedback from your customers sparks a feeling of confidence in your new visitors that your product or service can satisfy their needs.
According to statistics, 70% of consumers tend to trust a brand that showcases positive reviews and ratings on their websites.
Feature the testimonials at a prominent location, like on your website’s homepage or product pages to foster trust and reassurance.
Another strategy is displaying success stories and case studies. They work beyond testimonials and customer reviews.
Case studies provide a detailed insight into how your product or service has solved a customer’s problem in real life.
These compelling stories hook the visitors provide them something with which they can interact with, and give them confidence in your offerings.
Case studies are especially helpful for B2B conversions.
You can even click some screenshots of your social media followers and engagement to display on the website. This further creates a feeling of authenticity and trust among your visitors.
Displaying your follower count serves as a form of social proof, that people like to interact with your brand and feel happy with your products and services.
You can also showcase the engagement level, which further reinforces your credibility as a brand, especially when the comments and shares are pretty decent in number.
It demonstrates that people tend to engage with your brand because they feel more towards your product offerings.

Custom vs. Template Websites: Which One Should You Choose?
Tumblr media
When creating a website for your business, one of the first decisions you’ll need to make is whether to opt for a custom-built website or a template-based design. Each option has its pros and cons, and the right choice depends on your business needs, budget, and long-term goals. In this article, we’ll compare custom and template websites to help you decide which one is best for your business. We’ll also highlight how working with an E-Commerce SEO Company in Delhi can help maximize your website’s potential, regardless of your choice.
What Are Template Websites?
Template websites are pre-designed frameworks that allow you to build a website quickly by adding your content, images, and branding. Platforms like WordPress, Wix, and Shopify offer a wide range of templates tailored for different industries.
Advantages of Template Websites
Cost-Effective: Template websites are significantly cheaper than custom-built ones, making them ideal for startups or small businesses with limited budgets.
Quick to Launch: Since the design is pre-built, you can launch your website in a matter of days or weeks.
Ease of Use: Most platforms offer drag-and-drop builders, making it easy for non-technical users to create and manage their websites.
Variety of Options: Templates come in various designs and layouts, catering to diverse industries like e-commerce, blogging, or portfolios.
SEO-Ready Features: Many templates come with built-in SEO features, which can be further optimized by an E-Commerce SEO Company in Delhi to improve your search rankings.
Limitations of Template Websites
Limited Customization: While templates offer some flexibility, you’re restricted by the framework, which can make it challenging to achieve a unique design.
Generic Design: Since templates are widely used, your website might end up looking similar to others in your industry.
Scalability Issues: As your business grows, you may find it difficult to scale or add complex features to a template-based website.
Performance Challenges: Templates can come with unnecessary code or features, which may slow down your website and impact user experience.
What Are Custom Websites?
Custom websites are built from scratch by developers and designers to meet your specific business requirements. They provide complete flexibility in terms of design, functionality, and scalability.
Advantages of Custom Websites
Unique Design: A custom website is tailored to reflect your brand’s identity, ensuring a unique and professional look that sets you apart from competitors.
Scalability: Custom websites can grow with your business, allowing you to add new features or expand functionalities as needed.
Optimized Performance: With clean and streamlined code, custom websites are designed for optimal speed and performance.
Enhanced User Experience (UX): Developers can create user-centric designs that cater to your target audience, improving engagement and conversions.
SEO-Friendly: A custom website allows for advanced SEO optimizations, such as custom URLs, schema markup, and mobile responsiveness. An E-Commerce SEO Company in Delhi can help implement these strategies to boost your search engine rankings.
Limitations of Custom Websites
Higher Cost: Custom websites are more expensive due to the time and expertise required for development.
Longer Development Time: Building a custom website can take several weeks or months, depending on the complexity of the project.

1. Automated Web Design The Ai-Powered Future
Gone are the days when website design required hours of manual effort and expertise. AI-powered design tools are now transforming how websites are created. Platforms like Wix ADI and Bookmark use AI to design websites automatically by analyzing user preferences, input, and industry standards. These tools can create aesthetically pleasing layouts, select color schemes, and even optimize user interfaces all within minutes.

Platforms like Testim.io and Sauce Labs use AI to learn from previous tests and adapt future testing to ensure faster and more accurate results.
