I'm gonna assume here that you don't just mean "after Gabriel's unmasked and is defeated or is about to be defeated", and you mean more that he knows from the start. It's pretty common in enemies AU.

You know what? I'm gonna do something a little different. I'm gonna recommend two fanfics that are WIPs, but that only have a couple of chapters left.

A Breach in the Brooch by @piromina

Ladybug and Chat Noir are the heroes of Paris. Hawkmoth is Chat Noir's father. Chat Noir is aware of this. Hawkmoth is not.

So basically, Adrien still gets the Black Cat Miraculous like normal, but ALSO Gabriel decides to tell Adrien what he's doing and occasionally recruit his help. Plagg's very angry at first that Adrien won't tell Ladybug what's going on, until he eventually figures out that Adrien literally CAN'T. At that point he becomes a lot more sympathetic and helps Adrien in finding loopholes.

It's a really good fic and an approach to a sort-of enemies AU that I haven't seen before, I highly recommend it!

Nino wasn’t sure if anyone had ever willingly took the akuma butterfly before him, but with his mind completely open to this apparent son of Hawk Moth he knew that he couldn’t turn him away. Not someone that was so afraid, not someone who would be left at the mercy of Hawk Moth.

So this one is a straight-up enemies AU. No Sentiadrien here, this fic was started before that was confirmed (though the theory had been floating around for a few years). If you like Adrino, it's a must-read, it's one of the best, if not THE best, Adrino fics in the fandom. I love how Nino does his best to help Adrien, even while opposing Hawk Moth. He has no love for Adrien's father, is aware of how abusive he is even if Adrien still can't come to terms with it, but also knows that he has to help Hawk Moth to a limited extent in order to keep his friend safe.

I literally love all of their fics (remaining favorite is withered wings love that one sm). What I like about their fics most is that they love doing the rarepairs, and are rly good with the imagery and violence, and FEELINGS. They've literally made me cry more than once with their fics. Pls go check them out.

Of course first of all I love any and all comments but I like ones that instead of like "I love this sm!!!!!!" they like. actually tell me what exactly it was they liked about it. like go into depth of which parts they loved and what they were feeling, and like describe the tension and stuff so I know what the impact of my words are on ppl. Incoherent screaming is cool tho btw im not hating. In fact I incoherently scream a lot.

I know I talked about it before, but Miraculous Ladybug's Unification power kind of sucks.

Yes, you get to use multiple miraculous at once but you dont get to use the powers COMBINED.

Like Imagine the Horse miraculous and Cat miraculous.

Portals + Destruction = BLACK HOLE

Or How about Tiger + Ox

Invulnerability + Collision = Unstoppable force

OR The Ladybug + Fox

Illusions + Creation = Construct creation

Turtle + Bee

Shield + Stun = Perfect Prison/ Capture Sphere

There are so many capabilities we could have seen with the unification power.

Plus Imagine Bug noire using the powers of Creation and destruction and gaining the ability to just Alter matter or if Gimmi is concerned. REALITY WARPING

So there's a mix.

For some fics, it's no problem at all. @11jj11's Withered Wings, @rosie-b's True Blue, @nomolosk's Enchanted Forest Chronicles X Miraculous fic (sorry I don't remember the name, I know it had "dragons" in it though), @xaran-alamas's Kintsugi: The Beauty of Broken Things - those are all very distinctive AUs, so it's easy for me to remember which fic is which as soon as I glance at it, there aren't a lot of fics I could confuse any of them with. I may still need to glance at the previous chapter to refresh myself on what's going on if it's been say, a month or so, but I can usually keep the plot straight at least.

Then are are the regularly updating fics, the ones that usually update at least once a week, and often more, like @aidanchaser's Boullangerella, @generalluxun's Reciprocation, @consistent-chaos-corporation's Madness series, or again, @xaran-alamas's Kintsugi. These are usually easy for me to keep up with, as they're on my mind fairly often, with how frequently I read updates for them.

Now if the fic doesn't update very regularly and isn't a very distinctive AU, THEN I can get into some trouble. I might have to read the summary of the fic again to remember which one it is, or skim part of the first chapter or two in order to refresh my memory. Sometimes though, especially if I'm reading the update directly from the alert AO3 sends to my gmail and I'm at work so I have limited time, I'll just read the new chapter without remembering which story it is or what happened before this and just kinda wing it.

hopefully everyone has managed to download some reading material from ao3 in these trying times. but remember that writers will also not be getting comments and also cannot look back at old comments for comfort unless they’ve saved them, so don’t forget to send some love to authors of the fics you’ve downloaded on whatever platform you can find them!

Gabriel Agreste is a terrible person and he decides to involve Adrien in terrorizing Paris. Adrien doesn’t want to hurt anyone but he does want his mom back, so he’s somewhat reluctant.

Nino gets willingly akumatized and also eventually gets the fox miraculous

Ladybug and Violet Tigress had been fighting the mysterious Duskwing for eight years now. Through the years, the two have grown stronger together and even gotten married, they are waiting until they finally beat Duskwing to start a family. At least, that was the plan. When Juleka gets confronted with the realization that her friends are starting families of their own, she realizes just how badly she wants to be a mother.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Juleka and Marinette get the chance to adopt Juleka's young modeling friend Adrien.

Maybe they aren't quite a traditional family, but with magic, rockstars, and fame, normal was never an option.

Via Discovery: There are actually two terms of venery for tigers, depending on the makeup of the group. The first is a streak of tigers and this refers to a female tiger and her cubs.

Now this is a rare pairing, there’s not a lot of Julenette fics! Adrien and Rose actually have some ship tease going on, the whole kid group in canon got broken up into two groups here, one that remained around canon age (so like 13) which notably consists of Chloe, Rose, and Adrien, and then I think everyone else are adults in their mid-twenties. It’s weird seeing Adrien as Marinette’s and Juleka’s son, but hey it works! I love how Juleka really showed Adrien the ropes on modeling and became a Mama tiger for him, the fic’s mostly just very sweet, though with a surprisingly dark final act.

Accidents Are Also Miracles by @liiinerle

After a few turbulent days where four new people discover her secret identity, Marinette loses faith in her ability to keep the secret hidden. Wracked with doubts and insecurities, she pleads with Alya to take over as Scarabella, but she still can't let those worries go. Especially not once Monarch starts taking a particular, and personal, interest in her.

Along the way, she also starts to date Kagami, and has to deal with changing feelings about herself, Adrien, Alya, Kagami, and the idea of being Ladybug. At the same time, Alya works to uncover Monarch's secret identity, while Kagami struggles against a controlling parent, and a girlfriend who seems bent on destroying herself - with or without Monarch's involvement.

Fantastic Marigami fic here! You’ve got three major POVs in this fic: Marinette, Kagami, and to my delight, Alya. I loved getting to see Alya cope with taking over as Scarabella especially.

But of course, this fic centers more around Marinette and Kagami, with Marinette struggling with Monarch targeting her, and Kagami struggling against her abusive parent, as well as both of them trying to navigate their relationship together when they know that not everyone will approve. 

There’s also some other plots going on in here, like Sabrina breaking away from Chloe and becoming more independent (and closer to Adrien in fact), as well as a Lila takedown plot, though thankfully not one that involves demonizing other characters. While there are conversations about people believing Lila and siding with her, no one’s actually attacked for it except for Lila herself.

Oh yeah, and while this fic may not have much focus on Adrien, he’s still treated fairly and with respect, even when he messes up. He can make mistakes, but people understand where he’s coming from, and are still kind to him and want things to be okay, and to help him escape his abusive circumstances.

This is Adrino and Alyanette enemies to lovers, and I swear everyone is so in character. Like it’s amazing!! And because it’s not love square it doesn’t get the attention it deserves! Please give it all the love!! The premise is that Adrien never went to school (and never received the miraculous) and Gabriel has brought him in on his plans to revive Emilie. He’s tasked Adrien with using the butterfly, only Adrien doesn’t WANT to take control of someone, but he WANTS to bring his mother back. And Nino is feeling really lonely, so Adrien hits him with a butterfly and ASKS him for permission to PRETEND to be akumatized. And then there’s Marinette spiraling and spazzing over her crush (on Alya!) and I’m telling you, it’s AMAZING!! Alya is meanwhile crushing on Ladybug... 

And really, that doesn’t give all that much away! I just wanted to gush a little bit because maybe it needs more of a sales pitch to get ya’ll to read something outside of love square (I often need a pitch to get out of love square myself), AND THIS STORY IS AMAZING!! It’s already made me laugh, cry, and scream.

i was wondering if you have any ml enemies au recommendations? but in character! i was never much of a fan of enemies au because i thought adrien would never join hawkmoth side (he has such a strong moral compass)... until i actually started to think about how things would have been like if gabriel found adrien's ring on the day he received his miraculous, or if gabriel stole the cat miraculous alongside the butterfly one.

i feel like adrien loves his mother a lot and he was clearly torn in chat blanc. so maybe with some strong emotional manipulation from his father before adrien even bonded with ladybug... it made sense. but only with some sort of brain wash. but there's plenty of weird so out of character fics out there with this plot that made me kind of disappointed lol (disclaimer: there is people who actually like when writers diverge from canon, changing drastically the character's personalities! i'm not here to judge lol, it's just not my thing). so i just wanted to see if you (or your followers) have any good ones to recommend! you have good taste in fics :))

i totally get it and I agree! enemies AUs are tricky to do in character for love square and since OOCness is my #1 turnoff for fic lol sadly have not read any other than a oneshot here and there. but i actually do have two recs! Not weird or annoying! I'll be honest, right now I'm very busy (I mean, right now specifically because I'm watching 6 kids under 8, but just in my life because I have 2 fics to finish writing by the end of the month as well as 2 fics to beta by the end of the month) so I do not have time to read a lot of fic, especially longfic, and by the time that eases up I doubt I'll remember this. I appreciate the suggestion, though! I'll add it to my ever growing marked for later :D
