Prompt: Jonas sees the disco jacket for the first time.

It’s in a yard sale in Missouri, of all places. Not one of those sad little to-do’s--two chairs, a broken table,  a few boxes of miscellanea--but a real yard sale, probably six or seven families pitching in, real furniture, rows and rows of clothes, and some real finds. Sam’s got a nice looking lamp she’s towing around, Richter’s got a chair that is sure as hell not making it on the bus, if he has anything to say about it, and Ida’s somehow found a dress worthy of places a whole lot better than Missouri.

“You gettin’ anything?” A voice says behind him, and he turns to find Sam peering over his shoulder. “If you are, this ain’t the right section.”

“This a great section,” he says, grinning. The coats in front of him glitter dangerously, and he pulls out a jacket he thinks may be chartreuse. “Look at all these colors.”

“Look at all these horrors, is more like it. Come on, there’s a great purple shirt that would fit just perfect on you over there-”

“And give up on these beauties?” The next one down is almost definitely velvet, and it’s a little scraggly but the deep red is something he’s only seen in movies. Then, a blue one with black elbow pads; next, black with silver lining. “Whose do you think these were?” He asks, his voice as reverent as he can make it. “Whoever it is, I want to meet him, thank him-”

“Jonas, come on, these are awful-”

“You just don’t appreciate fine fashion, is what’s awful-” He cuts himself off, his eyes going wide. “Sam.”

“Jonas, no.”

“Sam.”

“Jonas, I swear to holy God in heaven-”

“It’s perfect.”

“-if you put that thing on-”

“Where’s the guy who’s running this thing, where do I pay-”

“Jonas-”

“I’m a preacher, Sam, watch me preach-”

“I will whoop your preacher ass if you don’t get back here-”

“Get the purple shirt, it will go great-”

“You will literally blind the congregation-”

“-I think I’ve got just enough cash...”

He’s a faster runner than she is. Barely.
