This Call the Midwife episode reminded me that nurse af yidish is kranken-shvester. I love how many languages do just call nurses "Sickness Sister" or "Medicine Sister"
#in Russian it is medsestra/medbrat#in Polish it was siostra a long time ago but now is pielęgniarka#which derives from the German pflegen#by the way medbrat gave rise to my favorite ad slogan#in 2020-21 there was a campaign to get people vaccinated for COVID#and the poster showed a male nurse getting the jab while flexing#with caption v chem sila medbrat
