Brad's fatal flaw

A pretty big part of brads character i dont see explicitly mentioned is avoidance.

In the tags of my last post, someone brought up that brad never went back for lisa and questioned why. To be honest, i think (SPECULATION ALERT) it was because he was scared. not of marty but of lisa. Afraid of how much the abuse has worsened and that she might hate him for it. So he doesn't check and lives in the "comfort" of not knowing.

This led to him (in his perception) causing the worst pain in his life. This restarts the cycle. He continues to avoid by refusing to outwardly acknowledge lisa's existence. So much so that his adopted son doesn't even know she exists. Almost all of brad's guilt fueled hallucinations of lisa are of her reminding him she exists or asking if he loves someone more than her.

The cycle continues to repeat after buzzo's attack. When brad hears the name lisa leave dusty's mouth, his first reaction is to turn around and leave. Forever. He abandoned his son just to avoid the reality of making the same mistake twice, not realizing he only did till left.

Fast forward to buddy and sticky's escape. The story from here on out is brad hyperfixating on rescuing buddy thinking it will absolve and erase the harmful choices he's made in the past, that he avoids the possibility of harm at all, Almost to a semi delusional point.

I'm always thinking about this part where he says he wants things to go back to normal, as if that's something even remotely possible at this point, as if he didn't just beat a part of his "normal" to near death with a spiked bat just days ago.

Flash a bit more forward to the end of the game. He is again at the endpoint of his avoidant cycle. Just like with lisa's suicide and dusty's attack. He's at a point that he can no longer avoid, and he's face to face with the culmination of his mistakes.

During this, he states that he wanted to do something good for once. Admitting that he thinks his entire life is a series of wrong choices. At this point, he's desperate for anything.

You could 100% make the argument that his mind was completely broken and he was not thinking clearly, but it is at least important to note that his final competent thought was not begging for forgiveness, but bid for reassurance.

BUZZO/BERNARD BUTTFART from LISA: THE PAINFUL

JUSTIFICATION:

"This one's hard to explain, but I kind of see Buzz having hangups regarding masculinity as a weapon to harm women given her girlfriend's death when they were both young. Also, this is a deeply, deeply emotionally repressed individual, someone who probably has avoided self-reflection for a long while.

It's possible that having had her egg cracked prior to the Flash would have potentially even stopped the Flash, as she'd have much more reason not to assist Yado or to outright stop him.

I know Dingaling deconfirmed this via word of Twitter, but there's also the factor of: Lisa liked putting makeup on people. We know via the Definitive Edition that she put makeup on her brother Brad. It's possible she may have put lipstick on Bernard at some point and that habit stuck, as a lot of people saw her red mouth as being lipstick. Her finding comfort in someone who helped her experiment with her gender in a place of non-judgemental attitude, and then having that rock of support taken from her, WOULD partly help explain why she became so obsessed with Lisa and so obsessed with revenge for her death.

Hi! Going to start slowly posting my designs for my Pained Hope AU as I get them all finished. Most of them aren’t done yet.

Brad and Isaac are together because they’re a package deal. Look at the read more if you want want to read some stuff about them

Isaac is a young 7-8 year old kid who was born after the end times. He has a brimming optimism despite how bad things are. Being a young kid, he trust nearly everyone he meets without question. Isaac is very emotional and empathetic. He will start crying if you raise your voice at him. Coming from a mother who was a well-known war general, his life is filled with strict discipline and high expectations. He found a small bit of relief under Brad’s care, who allowed him to openly be more expressive. However Brad is also still very stern and focuses a lot on Isaac’s ability to fight. It’s a well meaning action, it also makes Isaac feel more trapped in a life of constant panic. His reprieve comes from his beloved cat Guppy. A black and white tuxedo with a giant mutant flea imbedded into the side of their head. Isaac doesn’t mind, they still love their cat all the same.

Small summary of backstory yippie:

For people who know how the story of Lisa goes, everything up until the flash still happens in this au. Though instead of a flash, the world is thrown into pandemonium and chaos after a man-to-God known as The Propagator unleashed an army of cosmic horrors onto the unprepared world. During all this wide spread panic, the opportunist scientist Dr. Yado took this as a chance to start creating his passion project of mutants. Buzzo worked along with him, and would eventually kidnap Brad along with many other men to be Yado’s test dummies.

Not going to go completely into this story rn cause it’s pretty long, but in short terms, Yado makes a deal with The Propagator to run his test at much higher rates. As well as gain protection from the world’s horrors in promise that The Propagator could use his mutants for his own use as well. Brad is one of the first tests in front of the new God and got a big branding of his symbol on the top of his head. Eventually he’d break out of this facility and live his life has a nomad. Finding a new sense of family in Olan and Isaac.

Isaac’s mother, once a respected warrior, would be killed in battle against the cosmic cultists. Along with the nation believing this is a sign of the earth’s death, Isaac is now left alone without any family to protect him. He survived this long seemingly out of pure luck by avoiding the many dangerous monsters for as long as he possibly could. Eventually Brad would take him in and vow to protect the small boy. Still trying to make amends for his many past sins.

I THINK if Lisa survived she wouldn't be in love with buzzo or even talk to him or anyone from her past. She would isolate herself from them. I know its not really possible but i think she would understand that her relationship with buzzo was toxic as the time would go on
