i’m getting a formula 1 hyperfixation and here are my takeaways so far:

- lewis hamilton is pretty, rich and a little bit of a bitch (but i love him ❤️)

- if you don’t have money, you’re basically fucked

- the most TOXIC fan base i have seen in forever no one is ever happy lmao

(i’m assuming he just got an offer from aston martin and unretired but i’m still catching up so bear with me lmao) i mean he wasn’t winning towards the end so it makes sense plus he’s doing good now and it looks like he made the right choice

okay then anon, as you wish: how and why i come to like all my sports faves

badminton

anders antonsen: i watched this boy live from the arena! long story short there was a problem within the danish badminton association and so everyone went to this tournament with their own money + no coaches (not getting funded by the association is kind of a big deal, it's not a sports that gives you tons of money). surprisingly, antonsen made it to the finals, but all the danes went home already since they've already lost. the problem is: 1) his opponent, kento momota, is the world number 1, never lost once that year. 2) while in the earlier stages he has the other danes coaching him, everyone went back home and he's totally coachless.

and would you know it, my boy won! the arena just exploded it was so cool 🥰 besides that he has a strong (funny) personality, and he's fearless (tho some of it doesn't end well, he learns from those and stays fearless), also very smart, he can adjust his playing style to whichever opponent he has to face.

anthony ginting: his pretty shots drew me to him actually! VERY attack minded, knows how to play deceptions and net shots and it's so. so. pretty. i get nothing but pain and stress for supporting him these days 🤧 one of his greatest tournaments is the china open, he faced 4 world champions and beat them all to clinch the title

gideon/sukamuljo: WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH THIS. THEY ARE SO AAAAAAA. they made me like sports this much so all credits to them for my suffering. like anthony, they're very attack minded, very quick, they changed the men's doubles style completely they're so iconicccc BUT they never won a medal in major tournaments........ this year they had a huge huge chance of getting bronze at least, but would you know it, the association is shit and they cannot go. this year has been a bundle of suffering 😭 got covid, got disqualified from a tournament, lost the olympics (which they've been aiming for for years), huge drop of confidence, cannot attend world championships :<

football (briefly)

manu: world cup 2014, vs algeria specifically. fucking nuts (both the saves and the person). landed my eyes on this blond goalkeeper who can never seem to stay put inside his box and never looked back

lewy: 5 goals in 9 minutes. need i say more?

mats: AGAIN world cup 2014 vs france. class match, class header, class defense from mats. (plus he got bonked on the nose, that tends to make me remember him more)

josh: i just like his grit :D set my eyes on wc 18 but it didn't last long, again in the euros, and yet again finally in the bayern team. ofx when you watch him play well you'll say yeah he's that good

f1

max: found him through charles, actually lol. a close twitter friend is a fan of charles', got interested in him and ferrari after the whole ~italian wave~ after the euros. he doesn't catch my eye at first but the more i watched him (team radio ahskajdksjjd, press conferences AJDJAJDJSKJD, JUST UNHINGED HE DOES NOT CARE). and then an irl close friend turns out to be a max fan and i started watching f1 for him! he's fearless and doesn't give two shits and i love it for him lol. he doesn't get intimidated, he sees an opening, he goes for it. his overtakes are *chefs kiss*. the pressure for him must be off the charts this year but he delivered 🥰

charles: ok i have to admit his flag (🇲🇨) plays a huge part here bcs of my country's flag (🇮🇩). he along with max is my country's most popular drivers, maybe charles a liiitle bit more cz of ferrari? he has a lot of the same qualities with max (fearless, doesn't get intimidated) but on the opposite side of the spectrum... if that makes sense. (which is funny. they were childhood rivals) HIS DEFENSE. AMAZING. and how he holds up to the pressure of being the ferrari driver is admirable.

commercial break: silverstone and austria 2019, max attacking and charles defending. fucking amazingggg pls watch it

checo: in max's words, "checo is a legend!". i nearly cried watching that defense of his in abu dhabi using old dead tyres 😭😭😭 what a fucking legend honestly, my love for him has multiplied in abu dhabi. he's been a great teammate last year, i hope he can get more wins in this one
