This has been a hard lesson for me to learn, and one I still struggle with from time to time. We can't always control what's going on. I think our current global situation confirms that. Trying to control what we can't can be at best manipulative, at worst anxiety inducing. Control has been the basis of my own anxiety through my adulthood. We can only control ourselves. How we respond. How we react and process what we are given. We can't control others. I think there have indeed, and will continue to be, silver linings in all this. I had a job I loved and was well compensated for... And was laid off. I had a part time job I love with folks there that'll be life long tribe I suspect, and we're furloughed. I had been making excuses about my diet and health, sabotaging my progress towards where I want to be. I could go on and on about "before". But I'll tell you what, you don't need a vacation for self care. What this has done is given me some considerable perspective on my worth, my lack of investment in myself, and how important self care really is. I've been reminded through this how important it really is to put the gasmask, as it were, on first. I'll get reemployed and it'll be a better opportunity and fit for me. My part time job will re-open and I'll be able to see those I've missed. I've lostbsome weighr, have been hearing far better and I've been focusing on my YouTube channel, crafts, and improving some skills I've long put off because I just didn't have time. Because we could all use a little light-heartedness, especially now. The world seems to be Topsy-Turvy, turned upside-down. Whether you believe we are re-opening too soon or not (be respectful of one another please), everyone seems to be at wits end and scared, for one reason or another. I feel you. Change is scary. The unknown is scary. True change, true, lasting, formative change only comes through discomfort, chaos, and catastrophic events. It's why trauma is so real and evergreen. But the converse of that is true, as well. We are all going through a ton right now. Lay offs, furloughs, illness, uncertainty. Some are also dealing with mental health, long-term disease, loss, etc. We all have relationships that will grow and some that will fade. We've all hears the old adage that people come into your life (and leave) for a reason, a season, or to stay. And its true. Every single person we come across has a purpose in our lives if we are open enough to recognize and receive their messages. But then one relationship that is always constantly changing, always in flux, and is most often overlooked is with ourselves. It can be the most terrifying relationship we have, but ultimately the most fulfilling. Now is a grand time to check in with my ourselves. Who do you want to be? Where do you want to be? How can you get there? What changes do you want to make? What changes do you NEED to make to reach that goal? Reset. Reevaluate. Florida is (finally) going into safer-at-home requirements. Now, for quite a few of us, we've been practicing it anyway because, you know, science and general herd immunity. A little late for todays #wednesdaywisdom, but in justbunder the proverbial wire. Besides, better late than never, right? Todays entry is inspired by @rebeccavocalathlete as it's a comment I placed on one of her pics and truly, I think it rings universally true. The "weirdos" always seem to be the best people to me because they are authentically, unapologetically themselves and tonlive your life thus, one has to be intrinsically honest with oneself. Those that aren't are trying to be something they're not, and we all know how that ends up, yeah? This is also inspired by another post I saw today but can't remember who posted it to credit it properly but the gust was to not be so gard on yourself as nothing in nature grown overnight abd all of them have their cycles. Meaning, the most magnifigant things we see take time and they aren't always "on". You're going to ebb and flow. Highs and lows. To circle around to my quote, you have to be honest with yourself before any real growth can occur and you will flow in and out of this cycle, so don't be too hard on yourself when you aren't in "full bloom". The weirdos get that, accept it, and allow it to inspire them as part of the overall process. Be you. Unapologetically and authentically. There are a few people whom I think could use this today. ALL things are temporary though one could argue that temporary is relative, really. Whatever you are going through will alway pass. It may be overwhelming, insurmountable, even stagnant... But the one truth in life is that change is inevitable and all of this (sweeps hands around to accentuate point), all of this, including our time here is temporary. Stay curious.
