major spoilers for the last couple episodes of wish upon the pleiades, but he's got that trope of "he's been a coma the whole time", but to the extreme. became friends with a magic alien who used magic to let him experience the world outside of his coma. when he discovered he's been in a coma this whole time, he became obsessed with magic to try to find the timeline where he's not in a coma, but found out there's none, so he tried to use magic to erase himself from existance.
