Avoid room 301, they say. The hotel claims one spirit that lingers is that of a ghostly, spectral girl, who is reportedly the spirit of a young girl mowed down by a horse and carriage outside of the hotel in the 1800s. Hotel employees often report a ghostly, well-dressed young man in 19th century clothing. The young man apparently plays pranks and disappears as he roams the hallways of the hotel. A visiting doctor once claimed that he awoke in the middle of the night to find a gray-haired old woman crouching at his bedside. Creaking door sounds also seem to be the calling card of the spirits who still reside in room 301. It is also said that the spirit of a “Peeping Tom” appeared in the 1960s and can peek in through your hotel room window, regardless of whether you are on the 5th or 10th floor, as if the ghost is levitating outside of your hotel room window, scaling the heights of the grand hotel.

July 1999 - Type
((turns out that the unrelenting angst of writing and scheduling Whumptober submissions for a few weeks is a bit much and can use some fluffy palate cleanser. To whit:
Imagine if you will, a pair of teenagers in the '90s, without access to the internet, in an isolated culture which trends decades behind the times, of which they come from the most conservative subculture, trying to identify and understand sexualities for which the words have not even been invented yet. With a reminder that Theo's sexuality is "straight + Draco" because of an Amortentia accident.))
((Content warning: none))
Genre: fluff
Romance level: moderate
Angst level: 0/5
Draco's headspace: light / normal
((words: ~1500))
------------------------------------
They'd taken over the first-floor sitting room at the far end of the guest wing to listen to Quidditch on the wireless — Draco's mother disapproved of the wireless as being 'too Mugglish', but even she had to acknowledge that that was an opinion too extreme to expect to enforce, considering it had been invented before her parents were born, so it was a semi-spoken rule of the house to just not annoy her with it.
It was Harpies versus Portree. Draco's Arrows weren't playing, so he was only mildly invested, and was simultaneously decoding the gossip pages of the Prophet, but Theo was engaged; he was lying with his legs over the arm of the sofa and his head on Draco's leg, eating popcorn and occasionally trying to make Draco eat some by throwing it at him. It didn't work, and Draco was instead using it as practice to try catching it out of the air wandlessly, which also didn't work, though he did manage to deflect about half of them. Understandably, the room was becoming a mess.
Theo celebrated another Harpies goal by throwing a bunch of popcorn into the air and trying to catch it in his mouth, largely unsuccessfully. The game cut to an ad break while Draco was sweeping popcorn out of his lap without taking his eyes off the paper, and Theo spoke up to fill the space apropos of nothing.
"What kind of guys do you like, like to look at?"
"I've never thought about it," Draco said distractedly.
"No, seriously. I assume your type isn't…" He pointed his finger up and down himself — skinny, stooping, messy, and plain.
"Seriously, I've never thought about it. You're fine."
Theo sat up, taking his head out of Draco's lap, and looked hard at him.
Draco dropped his paper in a few seconds. "What?"
"Are you sure you're bent?"
Draco blinked at him. "Are you sure you want me to rethink that?" he pointed out.
"Well no, obviously you need to keep snogging me. Never think twice about that. But seriously? So is it actually girls you think are fuckable?"
"I think I was pretty clear how uninteresting I found Pansy's kisses."
"That's not what I'm talking about. I mean… Put me in a room for three minutes and I'll rank every witch's hotness there, on multiple scales if you want. If you like blokes, I figured it'd be the same, just less looking at tits, more looking at… well, I dunno, that's what I was wondering."
"And you're a pervert," Draco pointed out.
"Admitted, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the weird one here. You really don't think people are hot? Anybody?"
"Obviously I can tell when people are attractive," he said with some exasperation. "That's just aesthetics."
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're not talking about the same thing… Didn't you get why people were tripping over themselves to talk to that Veela Beauxbatons girl, what, Fleur whatever?"
"No, I get it, she was very pretty."
He scoffed. "'Pretty'? Fuck, I'd've cut off my left arm if I could touch her. Just the left one, mind, I'd still need the other." He made a crass motion with his hand.
"Oh come on."
"Hey, just speaking truth. All the guys felt it. Maybe not that strong," he admitted. It wasn't just a joke that he was a perv.
"I saw full-blooded Veela," Draco commented. "At the World Cup. I did get to see some weak-minded spectators acting like fools. It was amusing."
"I listened to the match… With the Leprechauns too, right?"
"Yes."
"Oh yeah. I remember. I remember they were described dancing or something. I really… really wanted to be there. You didn't feel anything?"
"No." He said that knowing he was about to be judged for it.
Theo slid down in the corner of the sofa, laughing. "You didn't feel anything from dancing Veela and you still didn't know you were gay? That's as bent as a silver Galleon. Did you think they were 'pretty', too?"
"I could see perfectly well that they were beautiful," he said patiently.
"Aesthetically."
"Yes, that's literally in the meaning of the word."
"But you don't feel it. That's like how I can tell you Blaise is almost as good-looking as you, that doesn't mean I want to look at him. Never have I seen a fit girl and I was like," he stretched out his words in a mimicry of Draco's posh drawl, "'I say, that young lady is rather aesthetically pleasing, old bean'."
"Is that meant to be me?"
"Yes, that's exactly what you sound like, word for word."
"Whereas I suppose you 'wanna give that bird a right proper shagging, innit'."
Theo cackled and fell into his shoulder. "Never, ever do that again."
Draco smiled a bit. "Likewise."
Theo sighed and grabbed another handful of popcorn. "So that's what it's like to be gay? You just don't notice people except on an 'aesthetic' level?"
"I don't know; it's what it's like to be me. It's not like I've ever talked to another one to compare notes."
"Huh." Theo leaned back and studied Draco's profile. "I never thought about that. That must be weird, in— I mean, right? To've never talked to someone like you?"
Draco raised a judgemental eyebrow at him. "People 'like me' are my parents, the Greengrasses and Parkinsons, you…"
"Yeah, yeah, good Pureblood breeding and manners. That's not what I meant."
"And I mean you're talking about the absolutely least interesting and important part of my personality. It's not even part of my personality. It's barely even a footnote. It shouldn't even be."
"Well, 'good breeding' isn't a very interesting personality either, as far as that goes. There are obviously at least a few wizards into wizards, I'll find you some to talk to."
"Perfect, so I'll know exactly whom to never be seen with."
"Come on… I'm just trying to help you get some friends."
"It's hilarious that between us you think you are the one who should be giving advice about making friends."
"Oh, an insult based on how I haven't got any friends, that's really creative. Did you just think that up?" He flicked popcorn at his head.
That one he managed to deflect with a flick of his hand so it veered away toward the window. "Classics are classic for a reason," he sniffed. "I don't know why you think I need gay friends. Are you part of the local voyeurs' club?"
"Hey, now…"
"Or do you have a bunch of likeminded blokes who are bonding over the fact that you, too, like to ogle women?"
"Well that's just every conversation I had with Vince since third year, innit?"
He rolled his eyes. "Of course it is."
"Don't judge, I had to take what I could get; you and Blaise were too stuck up to talk about girls, and Greg's too slow to hold a proper conversation. Oh, hey, shut up!" Draco thought about pointing out that he wasn't talking, but it wouldn't have mattered. Theo stood up on his knees on the sofa, looking back at the wireless, where the announcer's voice was rising in volume and tempo, excitedly describing the neck-and-neck race between the Seekers as they dove for the Snitch. Now Harpies' Firth was ahead, now Portree's Robbins…
Draco watched Theo with a small smile, the way he unselfconsciously leaned forward over the back of the sofa, muttering, "Come on, come on, come on…" Maybe Theo was right that he wasn't, objectively, anything conventionally special to look at — he'd been born with his father's crooked nose, nut-brown hair that couldn't decide if it was curly or not that he barely bothered to comb and never tried to manage, gangly limbs like a baby horse he never seemed to figure out how to completely control, and a fashion sense that was aggressively nonexistent. But Draco liked what he saw.
When the announcer yelled that it was Portree, Portree had the Snitch and had won the game, Theo yelled "No!" and threw up his arms, sending the bowl of popcorn flying. Draco covered his head with the paper to try to protect his hair. "Bloody Robbins!" Theo huffed as he threw himself back down on the sofa. "I swear he's got longer than regulation arms, somebody should look into that."
Draco shook out the paper and casually snaked his leg through Theo's.

24th, a peaceful arrival
Things became better since the daylight set. After the midnight to 4am repairs, the train ride became much smoother, and despite the wireless jumping between 4G (good), 3G (barely anything loads) and EDGE/GPRS (nothing loads), all went well and I arrived in "Kyiv Pas" train station. I didn't let myself take in the air properly and got a Taxify ride, which found my apartment effortlessly. Couldn't find a bankomat nearby, so I just met up my hosts, left them with a 100 EUR deposit instead of a few thousand hryvnia, and settled in the fanciest apartment I've stayed in with the exception of the apartment in Copenhagen in 2018 where we did gin & of montreal with fiona, and I got introduced, against my will, to Le Fabuleux destin d'Caleb Gallo
wifi. messages. 20th floor view. resolve. terrible color grade. shower. nap. messages. groceries. suddenly it's dark. trying to make less awful grades. sneeze. reading. got in touch with an old friend from Ukraine, who I met in Kohila, of all places (courtesy of Kevin, of course), and even if she lives further in the west now, her message was the kind of thing I wish I could record on camera while I'm here:
Also, today is anniversary of full scale invasion and we were expecting the whole day a traditional bi-weekly mass rocket shelling, but, surprisingly, the day is quiet, no "greetings" from the crazy neighbour. Maybe they know that we expect it today and will greet us tomorrow or any other day, like it make a difference for us 🙂 we are prepared for everything!
if I ever find a lesson in resilience, it's right here

How to Maximize Small Office Spaces with Smart Interior Design
Utilize Multi-Functional Furniture :
In compact office design, multifunctional furniture is revolutionary. Desks with built-in storage, folding chairs, and modular seating may be used for different purposes, thereby allowing you simple reconfiguration of your area depending on your daily demands. For example, a table used for a conference table during meetings and a desk by day may save a lot of room and cut the need for separate components. Search for wheel-based furniture to enable easy rearranging.
2. Embrace Vertical Space :
Limited floor area makes vertical space rather important. Store objects off desktops and counters using tall cabinets, wall-mounted shelves, and pegboards. Perfect for storing office supplies, literature, and décor without sacrificing valuable floor space are floating shelves. Both aesthetically pleasing and useful, vertical storage helps to provide a clutter-free atmosphere.
3. Optimize Lighting :
Correct lighting may help a tiny workplace seem more welcoming and open. Since natural light not only illuminates the area but also increases staff mood and output. If your workplace doesn't have enough windows, think about copying daylight with brilliant, cool-toned LED lighting. Save room by using wall sconces and above lights rather than floor lamps. Reflective materials like mirrors may help improve light and provide a more expansive impression of the place.
4. Use a Minimalist Color Palette :
Colors may affect the scale of a space—that is, its impression. An airy, open sensation is created by light, neutral hues like whites, gentle grays, pastels. These colors could help a small workplace seem more roomy. Without dominating the area, adding a few bursts of color via artwork or other décor accents can give it individuality. To prevent visual fragmentation, also think about utilizing like tones for walls and furnishings.
5. Invest in Smart Storage Solutions :
In a small workplace, a clutter-free workstation is absolutely important. To keep the office tidy, make investments in file organizers, wall-mounted cabinets, and drawer separators. File cabinets or storage bins from under-desk area. Clear bins and labeled containers may also help to make everything conveniently accessible and visible, therefore saving time spent looking for supplies.
6. Adopt an Open Floor Plan :
A small office can feel more spacious with an open floor plan and minimal partitions. Rather than cubicles, consider low-profile dividers or glass walls to define spaces without obstructing the view. This open layout promotes collaboration and offers flexibility for arranging furniture. Choose mobile, modular pieces that can be easily rearranged to adapt to evolving needs.
7. Choose Compact and Sleek Furniture :
Bulky furniture can easily make a small space feel cramped. Instead, choose sleek, streamlined pieces that minimize space usage. Desks with slender legs, compact chairs, and narrow tables provide ample room for movement without adding clutter. Opt for ergonomic furniture that combines comfort with space efficiency, achieving a perfect blend of functionality and style.
8. Incorporate Greenery Wisely :
Every office may have better ambiance by including plants, which can improve air quality and morale. Select plants for a tiny workplace that won't occupy too much space. Little potted plants on shelves, wall-mounted planters, or hanging planters may provide a little of greenery without sacrificing floor space. Small areas might benefit from low-maintenance plants as air plants, snake plants, or succulents.
9. Leverage Technology :
Utilizing digital tools can minimize the necessity for space-consuming physical items like filing cabinets and storage boxes. Solutions such as cloud storage, digital whiteboards, and wireless devices help reduce clutter, creating a more open and efficient workspace. Investing in multifunctional devices, like printers with integrated scanners, can further save space while enhancing functionality.
10. Personalize Thoughtfully :
Your office will feel more welcoming if you include personal items. Less is frequently more, however, in a tiny area. Select a few significant objectssuch as framed pictures or inspirational quotes—then arrange them deliberately. Without adding to clutter, customizing a tiny space with deliberate décor makes the workplace seem distinctive and motivating.
11. Maintain Regular Decluttering :
A well-organized small office requires regular decluttering. Set aside time each week to tidy up, remove unused items, and organize essential items. Clear desks and work surfaces daily to keep the space neat and welcoming. Minimalism in small offices isn’t just about style; it’s essential for maintaining a productive and focused atmosphere.
12. Prioritize Comfort and Functionality :
Maximizing space does not require compromising comfort. Ensure that workstations and chairs offer ergonomic support, which is critical for productivity and employee well-being. Workstations should be organized such that necessary objects are easily accessible while still leaving enough room for mobility. Functional furniture that encourages comfort increases productivity and pleasure of working in a tiny workplace.
Final Thoughts :
Smart interior design can transform a small office into an efficient, stylish, and comfortable workspace. By choosing versatile furniture, leveraging vertical space, optimizing lighting, and embracing minimalist decor, you can create an environment that feels open and welcoming. Thoughtful design isn’t just about maximizing space, it’s about enhancing the quality of work life for everyone in the office. With these strategies, even the smallest office can become a hub of productivity and creativity.

Wireless Access Control Systems vs. Wired Systems: Why Go Wireless?
When it comes to securing your organization or property, choosing the right access control system is crucial. Two of the most common solutions are wireless access control systems and wired systems. Both offer unique benefits, but with the rapid advancement of technology, many businesses and property owners are turning to wireless systems as a modern, convenient alternative. In this blog, we’ll dive into the key differences between wireless and wired access control systems and discuss why going wireless could be the best decision for your business.
What Are Wireless and Wired Access Control Systems?
Before we explore the advantages and disadvantages of each system, it’s important to understand what wireless and wired access control systems entail.
Wired Access Control Systems: These traditional systems use physical wiring to connect different components, such as door readers, control panels, and locks, to manage access within a building. These systems have been in use for decades and are known for their reliability and security.
Wireless Access Control Systems: On the other hand, wireless systems utilize radio frequency (RF), Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi technology to communicate between devices. They remove the need for extensive cabling, offering greater flexibility in installation and operation.
Key Differences Between Wireless and Wired Access Control Systems
1. Installation Time and Cost
One of the most significant differences between wired and wireless access control systems is the installation process.
Wired Systems: Installing a wired access control system can be labor-intensive and costly. It involves running cables through walls, floors, or ceilings to connect every access point to the central control panel. For larger buildings or facilities, the installation time and labor costs can be substantial. Furthermore, retrofitting an existing building with a wired system requires even more time, often disrupting daily operations.
Wireless Systems: Wireless access control systems offer a faster and more affordable installation process. Since they do not require extensive wiring, setup time is reduced significantly. This makes wireless systems ideal for buildings with complex layouts or historic properties where drilling and cabling might not be an option. Additionally, wireless systems are easier to scale, as adding new access points doesn’t involve running new cables.
2. Scalability and Flexibility
Wired Systems: While wired systems can be scaled, expanding them is often challenging and costly. Running additional cables to new doors or entry points requires significant effort, especially in large facilities. This lack of flexibility can be a limitation for businesses that grow or need to reconfigure their building layout over time.
Wireless Systems: Wireless access control systems are much more flexible. You can easily add new access points without the need for wiring, making it simple to expand your system as your business grows. For businesses with multiple locations or rapidly changing requirements, wireless solutions offer unmatched adaptability.
3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Wired Systems: Maintenance for wired systems tends to be more involved. If a component fails, tracing the issue through the physical wiring can be time-consuming and costly. Troubleshooting can involve checking the integrity of the cables, connections, and hardware components at multiple points within the system.
Wireless Systems: Wireless access control systems are generally easier to maintain, as they don’t rely on physical wiring that can degrade or get damaged. Wireless systems often come with remote diagnostic tools, allowing technicians to identify and resolve issues more quickly, reducing downtime. Additionally, updates to wireless systems can be done over the air, without the need for physical intervention.
4. Security Considerations
Wired Systems: Wired access control systems have a reputation for being highly secure due to their physical connections. Since communication between components occurs through wires, there is little risk of external interference. However, wired systems are not immune to tampering. If a malicious actor gains access to the physical wiring, they could potentially disable the system.
Wireless Systems: While there are concerns about the security of wireless communications, modern wireless access control systems are equipped with advanced encryption protocols to ensure data is transmitted securely. Wireless systems use technology such as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) to protect against hacking and unauthorized access. As long as the system is updated regularly and configured correctly, wireless solutions can offer the same level of security as wired systems.
5. Mobility and Remote Management
Wired Systems: Wired systems tend to be more rigid when it comes to remote management. Managing access control remotely requires additional infrastructure, such as VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) or cloud-based platforms, which can increase complexity and cost.
Wireless Systems: One of the standout benefits of wireless access control systems is their compatibility with mobile and cloud-based management. This allows administrators to monitor and control access remotely from anywhere, using smartphones or web browsers. For businesses with multiple locations or remote teams, this flexibility can be invaluable. Wireless systems also support mobile credentials, where employees can use their smartphones to gain access to buildings or secure areas.
6. Energy Efficiency
Wired Systems: Wired access control systems draw power from the main building’s electrical supply, which can result in higher energy consumption, especially for larger facilities with numerous access points.
Wireless Systems: Wireless systems are generally more energy-efficient. Many wireless access points are battery-powered and only consume energy when actively in use, reducing overall power consumption. Some systems also integrate with energy-saving features like automatic door locking when not in use, further enhancing efficiency.
Why Go Wireless?
With technological advancements, wireless access control systems have become a preferred choice for many businesses and property owners. Here’s why going wireless could be the best option:
Ease of Installation: Wireless systems eliminate the need for extensive wiring, reducing installation time and costs.
Flexibility and Scalability: Easily add or reconfigure access points as your business grows or evolves.
Remote Management: Manage access control remotely from anywhere using cloud-based platforms or mobile apps.
Enhanced Security: Advanced encryption protocols ensure that wireless communications are secure from tampering and unauthorized access.
Energy Efficiency: Wireless systems are often more energy-efficient than wired alternatives, reducing operational costs over time.

Silent Conference Systems are an innovative solution designed to facilitate communication in diverse, multilingual environments. Instead of using traditional loudspeakers, these systems employ wireless headphones to deliver audio directly to each attendee. This technology ensures that every participant can hear and understand the content clearly, regardless of background noise or language differences. By using multiple channels, a silent conference system can provide simultaneous translation in several languages, making it ideal for international conferences, trade shows, and exhibitions.
Benefits of Silent Conference Systems
Enhanced Focus and Engagement
One of the most significant advantages of Silent Conference Systems is their ability to create a focused and distraction-free environment. In traditional conference settings, background noise and overlapping conversations can hinder concentration. With silent conferences, each participant is equipped with a set of wireless headphones, allowing them to tune into the specific audio stream they need. This not only enhances focus but also promotes a more engaging and immersive experience.
Multilingual Support
In a globalized world, events often attract attendees from various linguistic backgrounds. Silent Conference Systems address this challenge by offering simultaneous translation services. By providing multiple audio channels, participants can select their preferred language, ensuring that everyone receives the same level of information and engagement. This multilingual support is particularly beneficial for international conferences, academic symposiums, and corporate events where diverse audiences are commonplace.
Noise Reduction
Silent Conference Systems excel in managing noise levels, making them suitable for environments where traditional audio systems might be disruptive. Whether it’s a busy trade show floor or a multi-session conference, the use of wireless headphones minimizes external noise, allowing participants to focus solely on the content. This feature is also advantageous for events held in venues with strict noise regulations or in close proximity to residential areas.
Flexibility and Mobility
Another key benefit of Silent Conference Systems is their flexibility and mobility. Traditional audio setups often require extensive wiring and fixed seating arrangements, limiting the movement of participants. In contrast, silent conference systems are wireless, enabling attendees to move freely within the event space while still receiving clear audio. This flexibility is ideal for workshops, breakout sessions, and interactive activities where mobility is essential.
Customizable and Scalable
Silent Conference Systems are highly customizable and scalable, catering to events of all sizes and formats. Whether it’s a small corporate meeting or a large-scale international conference, the system can be tailored to meet specific requirements. Event organizers can choose from a range of equipment, including wireless headphones, transmitters, and receivers, to create a bespoke setup that aligns with their objectives. Additionally, the scalability of silent conference systems allows for easy expansion, accommodating increasing numbers of participants as needed.
Applications of Silent Conference Systems
Silent Conference Systems have a wide array of applications across various industries and event types. Some of the most common uses include:
Corporate Events
In corporate settings, clear and effective communication is crucial. Silent Conference Systems are ideal for meetings, training sessions, and seminars where participants need to focus on presentations and discussions. The ability to provide simultaneous translation also makes them valuable for multinational corporations with diverse workforces.
Academic Conferences
Academic conferences often feature multiple concurrent sessions and presentations. Silent Conference Systems enable attendees to switch between different sessions seamlessly, ensuring they can access the content that is most relevant to their interests. The multilingual capabilities are also beneficial for international academic events.
Trade Shows and Exhibitions
Trade shows and exhibitions are bustling environments where traditional audio systems can struggle to deliver clear communication. Silent Conference Systems allow exhibitors to engage with attendees effectively, providing detailed product information and demonstrations without competing with background noise.
Guided Tours
For guided tours, especially in noisy or crowded environments, Silent Conference Systems ensure that participants can hear the guide clearly. This is particularly useful in museums, factories, and outdoor tours where ambient noise can be distracting.
Implementing Silent Conference Systems
Implementing a Silent Conference System involves several key steps:
Assessment: Evaluate the specific needs of the event, including the number of participants, languages required, and venue characteristics.
Equipment Selection: Choose the appropriate equipment, such as wireless headphones, transmitters, and receivers, based on the event’s requirements.
Setup: Install and test the system to ensure optimal performance. This includes setting up transmitters, distributing headphones, and configuring audio channels.
Training: Provide training for event staff and participants on how to use the system effectively.
Support: Offer technical support throughout the event to address any issues and ensure smooth operation.
Conclusion
The Silent Conference System hire is a transformative technology that enhances communication and engagement in various event settings. By eliminating language barriers, reducing noise, and providing a focused environment, silent conferences create a more inclusive and effective experience for all participants. As the demand for seamless and multilingual communication continues to grow, Silent Conference Systems will play an increasingly vital role in the success of events worldwide.

Break Free from the Wall: Exploring the Advantages of Mounting a TV on a Pole
Gone are the days when TVs were confined to a designated spot on the wall. Mounting a TV on a pole offers a unique and versatile solution for various spaces, enhancing your viewing experience and freeing up valuable wall real estate. This blog delves into the benefits of TV mounts on poles, explores different options, and offers tips for creating the perfect setup.
Why Mount a TV on a Pole?
There are several compelling reasons to consider a TV mount on a pole instead of a traditional wall mount:
Increased Viewing Flexibility: A pole mount allows you to easily adjust the TV's height and tilt, ensuring optimal viewing angles from various positions in the room. This is particularly beneficial for large living areas or outdoor entertainment spaces.
Space Optimization: TV mounts on poles eliminate the need for bulky wall mounts and free up valuable wall space. This is ideal for smaller rooms or areas where wall placement isn't feasible.
Enhanced Aesthetics: A well-placed pole mount can add a modern and sleek touch to your space, especially compared to traditional wall mounts.
Types of TV Mounts on Poles
When choosing a TV mount on a pole, consider the following options:
Floor-to-Ceiling Mounts: These offer maximum flexibility, allowing you to adjust the TV's height and tilt throughout the entire range of the pole.
Mobile Stands: These portable stands provide a convenient option for frequently moving the TV around a room or across different locations.
Clamp-On Mounts: These clamp onto existing structures like railings or posts, offering a space-saving solution for patios or decks.
Choosing the Right TV Mount on a Pole
Here are some key factors to consider when selecting a TV mount on a pole:
TV Size and Weight: Ensure the mount is compatible with your TV's size and weight capacity.
Pole Height and Material: Choose a pole height that optimizes viewing and matches the scale of your space. Consider materials like steel or aluminum for maximum durability.
Mobility Needs: If you plan on moving the TV frequently, opt for a mobile stand or a floor-to-ceiling mount with smooth-gliding mechanisms.

Sound System Integration: Consider mounting your sound system near the TV or incorporating a wireless surround sound system for optimal audio.
Ambient Lighting: Dimmable lighting or strategically placed lamps can create a comfortable viewing environment, especially for movie nights.

Posted: 2/25/24 | February 25th, 2024 Miami is well-known for its brightly colored culture, exciting nightlife, and sun-kissed beaches. Miami offers a diverse range of neighborhoods to explore and lots of interesting things to see and do, from the iconic Art Deco architecture of South Beach to the vibrant energy of Wynwood (here's my guide to all the neighborhoods). Miami offers more five-star hotels per capita than any other city in the nation, so there are plenty of options here, whether you are looking for an upscale beach experience or something more reasonably priced. I’ve been coming to the city for years and have stayed in a lot of different hotels. To help you plan your visit, here’s my list of the best hotels in Miami: 1. Yotel Miami This four-star hotel is situated in downtown Miami and features a sleek, modern design with a distinctively Miami aesthetic—think neon lighting and vibrant colors done in a playful, tasteful way. There are two types of accommodations available: rooms and full apartments (referred to as "pads"). All have work desks, wireless charging stations, smart beds that can be adjusted, and large bathrooms with rainfall showers. A rooftop terrace with a pool and cocktail bar, a hot tub, a 24-hour fitness center equipped with Peloton bikes, co-working spaces, and an à la carte breakfast restaurant are among the amenities offered by the hotel. The fact that the hotel has a designated beach area on South Beach with free loungers is really nice if you want to laze in the sun. 2. Citizen Miami Brickell CitizenM, a four-star hotel in the center of Brickell, features vibrant and lively artwork all over the place, including a vibrant large-scale mural called "Cosmic Connection" on the building's side (made by Miami-native artist Jen Stark). I adore this brand so much. One compact, well-designed room type that maximizes available space is part of the citizenM concept. To ensure a restful night's sleep, every room features luxurious king-sized beds, plush pillows, blackout blinds, and soundproofing. The rooms are high-tech too; you can control various room settings from a tablet or app on your phone, including the lighting, temperature, blinds, and flatscreen TV. A rooftop pool, meeting rooms, a "living room" with couches, a library, a co-working space, and two restaurants—one of which serves a hearty daily breakfast buffet that accommodates all dietary restrictions—are just a few of the hotel's many fun communal spaces. 3. Hotel Ocean Situated on Miami's renowned Ocean Drive, this modest three-star hotel boasts a retro, beach-inspired design and is conveniently close to the beach. The rooms are large and bright, with desks, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and extremely comfy beds. Large walk-in showers with two shower heads and tubs are common in the newly remodeled bathrooms. Along with free bikes for guests to use, the hotel has a lovely restaurant with seating on the sidewalk and in an outdoor courtyard, and fresh coffee in the lobby. You have to check into multiple adjacent hotels to use their amenities, which include an outdoor pool, a spa complete with a hammam, sauna, meditation area, and relaxation room, and a 24-hour gym. The location is unbeatable, and you get a ton of value here. 4. The Betsy This elegant boutique hotel with five stars is well-known for its Art Deco-inspired décor. It was even named one of the world's best hotels by Travel + Leisure! You will not need anything here, as you can probably imagine. The hotel offers opulent amenities like marble bathrooms with walk-in showers and hardwood floors, along with rooms and suites that are decorated with carefully chosen original artwork and live orchids. A minibar, desk, cozy bathrobes, baby alpaca blankets, and unbelievably comfy beds are among the amenities available in the rooms. The Betsy also features a gorgeous rooftop where you can enjoy yoga sessions in the morning, relax by the pool, or have a drink at the cocktail bar; there is
also a fitness center with Peloton bikes, a quaint library, and multiple on-site restaurants (one of which serves breakfast every day). The hotel offers free chairs, umbrellas, and loungers in its private area, which is only a few steps from the beach. Stay here if you want luxury. 5. Hampton Inn Miami-Coconut Grove/Coral Gables Although it is part of the Hampton Inn chain, this three-star hotel is still an affordable choice with convenient access to the Coconut Grove and Coral Gables neighborhoods. The hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay, even though its design is nothing to write home about (if you have been to one Hampton Inn, you have been to them all). Handy room features include a desk, flat-screen TV, walk-in shower with strong pressure, and a large bathroom with a mini fridge and microwave. In addition, this hotel has a peaceful outdoor pool, a small fitness center, free coffee, tea, and warm cookies in the lobby all day long. It is also conveniently located next to a Metromover station, making it simple to travel throughout the city from here. For those on a tight budget or families seeking a quieter location, it is a great choice. 6. Sentral Wynwood Spacious, designer-furnished apartments with vibrant décor, an abundance of natural light, and wall-mounted artwork are available in this four-star aparthotel. Stainless steel appliances, such as a dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee maker, and even a washer/dryer, are featured in the fully furnished kitchens. The apartments also feature a large bathroom with a hairdryer, bath or shower, and free toiletries, as well as a living area with a flatscreen TV that offers streaming services. The hotel features a gorgeous rooftop pool, a fitness center, and short-term rental Tesla cars. If you are going to be in Miami for a while, Sentral is a great choice, especially if you are traveling and need a place to work. The hotel offers free coffee in the coworking space on the premises as well as in-room workspaces. The neighborhood around it is full of cafes that are suitable for working. 7. The Miami Beach Edition My preferred hotel in Miami is this five-star hotel by the beach since I can use my Marriott hotel points to get free stays (without points, it is very expensive). It is amazing. Its large rooms and suites are individually designed and furnished with tasteful artwork, soft hues, and spacious bathrooms with marble floors. In addition, coffee makers, minibars, 48-inch flatscreen TVs, and breathtaking views of the ocean are available in some of the rooms. In addition to a pool and six (yes, six) restaurants, the hotel offers an on-site gym and spa. This area also has a couple bars, a nightclub, and a bowling alley. It is possible to stay here the entire time and never have to leave (without getting bored, of course). The so-called capital of Latin America, Miami, has plenty to offer, whether you are there to party on South Beach, enjoy the art in Wynwood, or just lounge on the beach. Selecting one of the aforementioned lodging options will ensure that your visit to the second-most visited city in the US is unforgettable!

Innovative Wireless Light Switch Could Cut House Wiring Costs in Half - Technology Org

Innovative Wireless Light Switch Could Cut House Wiring Costs in Half - Technology Org
A University of Alberta engineering researcher has developed a wireless light switch that could reduce the cost of wiring a house by as much as 50 per cent.
Engineering researcher Kambiz Moez is developing a wireless light switch that works without batteries, which could reduce the cost of wiring a house by up to 50 per cent. Image credit: Geoff McMaster, University of Alberta
Wireless switches — consisting of a transmitter on the switch and a receiver near a light fixture or other appliance — have been around for many years, and have been proven that they can reduce the material and labour cost for wiring houses, says Kambiz Moez, director of electrical engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, but they require batteries to operate.
“If you have 50 wireless light switches in a house, it’s very inconvenient for an average homeowner to run around and replace batteries all the time,” he says.
His system is unique because the switches run without batteries, harvesting energy from ambient sources such as radio frequency signals. Instead, each floor would have one or two RF (radio frequency) power transmitters to power up all switches inside the house.
Moez has so far developed a prototype switch for less than one dollar that can be installed anywhere on a wall. The system is “scalable, easy to replicate and adopt, and can be customized to meet the specific needs of homeowners, contractors and regulators,” he says.
In 2018, Alberta became the first province to allow wireless electricity control in new homes. With the current housing crisis in Canada, Moez says his innovation could help reduce construction costs.
The switch can also accommodate temperature, humidity and occupancy sensors that can drastically reduce energy consumption.
“Imagine heating a 3,000-square-foot house, but you’re only using a room at any given time. If your house has wirelessly controlled vents, you can close the vents outside that room, or maybe a couple of bedrooms,” says Moez.
The “seamlessly automated” system could also turn lights on and off as occupants move from room to room.
“By enabling the wireless control of each section of homes, our solution prevents unnecessary use of energy, which in turn lowers energy bills and reduces carbon emissions,” says Moez.
His next step is to set up a spinoff company or initiate collaboration with an established company capable of upscaling for mass production. Moez and his team have received incubation funding from the CMHC Housing Supply Challenge to develop a proof-of-concept prototype of the batteryless wireless switch. If successful in the next phase of the competition, they could receive up to $3 million more to scale their solution.

Entity Mission 1 Expedition 5 log
(ENTITY is a solo ttrpg by Peter Sholtz)
>I awake in the strange altar room, it is exactly how I left it, no change to indicate time had past. The air remainz oddly still, like I was the first person to disturb it in thousands of years. Cold light pours from the intact fixtures, illuminating the lethargic scene. Motes of dust hang in the air, visible in the light. They appear to be almost entirely still, fixed, refusing to change.
>I open the bulkhead to the airlock, where I could see the Ash I tracked in yesterday, the gray-white stain destroying its apparent sterility. The outer door opens, and a toreent of ash pins me against the back wall. I claw my way out and see the peircing sun above, the storm has stoped, I am out.
>Today I will take the long way around. I start my trek across the violent dunes of ash. Every step seems to put me just as far forward as it puts me back. Small luminescent blue and green organisms ride the wind forward besides me. They fascinate me.
>I look up and I see that these stragglers are only a small part of a far larger migration. They carve a ruver in the sky above me. Seems they are heading the same way as I am.
>From the ash ahead rises an ancient stone monolith, remaining vertical despite the test of time. It is carved in the shape of a pyramid, likely the Pyramid. Its covered in a thick unknown script.
>I scan the text using my visor. I will analyze it later.
>I turn and look at the Pyramid behind me. It looks back.
>In the distance, large, sharp blades of black glass cut through the ashen dunes. As i draw nearer their true scale impresses itself upon me.
>Suddenly, as if I steped into a bubble, my feed cuts out. Some sort of alien technology is attacking my systems. I flail in blindness looking for the port to which I will attach my multitool.
>I successfully am able to turn off my coms for now, neutralizing whatever signal that was causing the dusturbance. Someone did not want this place found.
>Strange religous artifacts are strewn between the blades of glass. They appear ti be from various alien cultures, and some are even lodged between the shards dozens of feet above me. I attempt to pry a few open using a piece of metal I found nearby. I succeed but not without colapsing back into the wall behind me.
>A crackle of energy surges into my suit. Seems there may have been some sort of a wireless charging station nearby. A clean disc carved of volcanic glass rests in the box I opened, this will be usable for the map room.
>I venture further into the canyons of glass, and the religous artifacts grow in density. Flags and banners are strong across the canyon, tattered with age. Statues and shrines litter the floor. What the hell could be here?
>The glass opens up ahead. I enter into a large circular clearing, with thusands of prayer flags stung densly around its perifiry. All the glass fans bordering it point to the center, where an easily 300 ft tall obilisk rises from a perfectly circular crater in the ash. Its made of a flawless black metal, and emits a strange hum. I have no idea how it wasn't visable from outside.
>My suit energy reads are familiar; they resemble those from right before my ship crashed. Whatever this is, it has something to do with the Pyramid.
>I walk down the crater, despite my best instinct, its perfect surface reforming after every footfall. I place my hand against its surface, it is warm to the touch.
>A tear of the strange black metal forms at the top and begins to roll down into my waiting hands. The metal settles there for a moment, feeling like its about to slip through my fingers. Then it suddenly snaps into a perfect cube.
>Whoever or Whatever made the Obelisk, made the Pyramid was far more advanced than anything else on this planet, definitley at least more advanced than humans. Perhaps thats what they were trying to mimic with their dark structures. I rest for a moment against its perfect geometry.
>But for now I must continue home. I should be able to complete my maproom now.
>I.A.P. Mikonial signing off
[This concludes the log for Mission 1 Expedition 5]
